I got Jolene on the first try! 🙂 Then I thought I got Ravi on full speed and half speed, but since I never heard of that name, I still wasn't sure what it was until the end, and then I was still confused. Unusual names are hard to figure out because they are so unfamiliar, that the letters don't make sense. Couldn't get Valerie until the last try.
Same here. Missed the o in Jolene, even at slower speed, but saw it in the beginner speed. Got Ravi but wasn't sure as it is not a familiar name for me. Picked up on Valerie easily. Thank you. Hope you will do more of these.
Beginner speed- I could get more and more letters as the speed slowed but only the whole name at beginner speed- not bad for a beginner I guess 😂 -I tended to hang on figuring out the letter and miss the next 1 or 2 at faster speeds
Got #2 full speed and #1 and #3 at half speed. Working on receptivity!! I've just discovered you and your videos and am so happy. Thank you for all you do!
Hi Meredith, did you know for fingerspelling reception practice, four syllable words with mostly alternating vowels and consonants are optimal, as their short easy syllables guide new signers into reading the flow of the word, as the word is long enough to focus on that pattern of reading~
I try to get the first letter ... use that to start thinking of names ... i was able to get the 2nd at normal speed and 1 and 3 at half speed ... thanks for doing this ... fingerspelling is so hard for me
Got #1 at full speed, #2 at half speed and #3 at beginner speed. ☺️ Not bad, still trying. I appreciate all your videos and help! It’s good practice! 😁🥳❤️
I'm very much a beginner, but decided to try - not good at reading finger spelling at all. I got the two names at the middle speed, and the other one (first one) at beginner. That was fun!
Nailed it!!! Ravi. I've never heard of that name. Anywho, Meredith is gliding double letters still the correct thing to do? Like Anna I would do A then N and glide my hand then do A. Right?
In your course videos with names I haven't seen that movement either. I've discovered the ASL flash cards I bought before your course are mostly wrong.
Hi Anna, glad you learned a new name :) Great question about double letters! Generally, you reproduce the letter's handshape in some way, though sometimes you may see a 'slide' movement instead. Different textbooks and different teachers give different "rules" to follow for double letters; there isn't one singular correct way. Vowels are almost always a "slide", while consonants.. you'll see a mix, and it may vary by position. Here's a good quora answer that summarizes some 'rules': www.quora.com/When-hand-spelling-ASL-how-do-you-sign-two-of-the-same-letters-like-in-good-or-steel Hope that helps!
I only got the first and last letters regular speed, and a few in the middle. I got the 1st at half speed. I guessed the 3rd one at half speed, but wasn't 100% until beginner speed. I got the 2nd at beginner speed.
I missed the o with Jolene for sure until the beginner speed. I got Ravi at second speed and Valerie I kinda got off the first one but I second guessed myself until the beginner speed showed me that’s what it was!
I got 2 of the 3 and I missed that a in Valerie. I never get to see someone spell the letters for me other than in the lessons and this is my 3rd week..also I am 78 years old..
Hello, your channel is so helpful for everyone wants to learn and practice ASL and my case I love ASL and I really want learn, but I have difficult in spelling I'm practicing, but it's hard for me do you know what can I do to improve, and thank you for each of the videos you share with us 🙂💖💖👌👌👌👌👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Tracy! Thanks for the feedback. As notes at 2:13, the answers are in the video's description. No need to read comments unless you want to see how other people found the challenge.
Sheesh, I'm rusty, I need a "watching paint dry" speed 🤣🤦♂️
Aw don't worry ! Go ahead and slow the video down further using the gear icon!
Yay! I got them all correct, on the fastest speed! I love ASL!!!
Woohoo ! Way to go, Emily!!! 🙌🙌🙌

Thanks for sharing! That O was a tricky one. Good job!! Yes I can aim to do more of this here :) there are tons of old ones on the Instagram!

Nice job!! Don't worry about catching every letter - grasp what you can, and then pause and make an educated guess at the name as a whole :)
Got #2 full speed and #1 and #3 at half speed. Working on receptivity!! I've just discovered you and your videos and am so happy. Thank you for all you do!
Thanks, Elizabeth, and well done !!! 😊🙌

Aloha Friday to you Meredith from Honolulu, Hawaii. Beginner's pace works for us.
Great job!
ME TOO!!! Yay! I got them all correct, on the fastest speed! I 🤟ASL!!! Finger spelling is an area I continue to grow in.
Wooo way to go, Sadie !!
Thanks for the quick practice, Meredith!!
You're quite welcome!!

I could only get it at beginner speed.
It was a nice challenge. 😊
Got #1 at full speed, #2 at half speed and #3 at beginner speed. ☺️ Not bad, still trying. I appreciate all your videos and help! It’s good practice! 😁🥳❤️
Nice job, Kelly!'
All at beginner speed. However, I'm a beginner and glad to get it there.
Thanks for the exercise.
Awesome!! Great job!
Yay!!! I got it at half speed!!! Last time was beginner speed! I'm getting better!
Amazing, Shauna!!! Way to notice your progress! 🙌
@@ASLMeredith thank you!

Wow, great job!!
Normal speed. These are cool!
2 at fast speed but I was sure until medium speed. 🥰 so encouraging because I struggle with finger spelling
Thank you

Thanks for the practice. I needed this.
You're so welcome! Glad it helps!
#2 and #3 i got in full speed, #1 in half! love these videos
Wow, well done, Isabelle!

Nice, Jennifer!! Guessing based on what you do see is part of the practice! 🙌
I missed the o with Jolene for sure until the beginner speed. I got Ravi at second speed and Valerie I kinda got off the first one but I second guessed myself until the beginner speed showed me that’s what it was!
Yep that was a tricky one !! Good job !
Love your videos! I am learning so much from you. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank YOU! I'm so glad you're finding these useful :)
@@ASLMeredith You're welcome... I've tried many and I believe you're the best and easiest to follow and understand. 🙂
Jolene Ravi Valerie… I knew first and last pretty quickly and middle needed beginner speed 🤷🏻♀️
Nice job!!
My problem with finger spelling is I'm not great at spelling. So, when someone finger spells to me in ASL or English I don't always get it.
Got #1 at 1/2 speed, and got #’s 2 & 3 at beginner pace! Slow, but getting them right! Yippee! :D
Woo! Well done!
I got 2 of the 3 and I missed that a in Valerie. I never get to see someone spell the letters for me other than in the lessons and this is my 3rd week..also I am 78 years old..
Like it
I am very slow to spill words in ASL
How can I get faster in this?
Thanks!
Dr. Bill has a great practice page!

I forgot that I use ThSL, at first, I have no idea what that name is. When I look closely and try to guess the letter, I start to get it.
Got 2/3 🙂
Great job!! 🙌
@@ASLMeredith iGracias!
Valarie and Ravi second try but I couldn't figure out Jolene until I wrote it out 🤣
Good job! Whatever helps :) Sometimes fingerspelling with your own hand along with me also helps similarly.
I could get only Ravi and Valerie, but just at beginner's pace.
Great start!!
2224; reviewing... ;)
All at half speed. Some are not names i know well, so that made it harder.
Yep, that's part of the challenge :) good job getting them at half speed !
ooph - that was rough for me.
Beginner speed! I have a lot more to improve on😭
Everyone starts somewhere!! Keep at it!
Where are the answers. It would have been better to put it in the video at the end. Verses having to search through the comments.
