If you enjoyed this video, please give it a THUMBS UP as it helps me in the UA-cam algorithm! 😀 What is one thing you ALWAYS have to buy from Walmart??
The packaging damage at Walmart is always a combination of wreckless palletizing (warehouse), then load shifting (to store) and unloading (automation). Speed is the highest priority for stocking at Walmart. I was an overnight stocker for 6 years, until 2018. The most degraded and exploited workers at Walmart are the hardest working ones, it seems.
Oh yeah, dock at Value City, same. Most of those crushed boxes are load shift "injuries". The square hole in the toaster oven box is from a forklift. My gripe though, is the morons who don't know how to properly use a box knife. Eye drops, bandages, antiseptic creams, feminine hygiene products and other H&B stuff sliced open during unpackaging. These can't be sold now because there's been a chance of contamination. Ugh.
Walmart changes their model, their methods...all the time. Trucks were being unloaded directly to the floor the last I heard. If they are short-staffed I suppose there can be bottle necks and huge messes as a result. Also, most stores have stockers working when the store is closed for shoppers, but they also have to re-stock and clean as well. It's a horrible job.
@@applicationuser9764 that's way too much effort when I can just go to Amazon and buy the product. Gotta figure out the phone number, gotta deal with the automated telephone machine, gotta deal with the manager, then you gotta deal being guilt tripped into asking for help when none of this should've happen to begin with and is not your fault at all. Fact the manager comes with an attitude is absolutely appalling to me. Like you guys decided to put the glass up, take accountability for your decision to do so. Either hire more people to handle it quicker, or do it yourself. Likely a superior product too, since they actually cycle through products unlike these products that stay behind glass for months. I bought a battery operated device from Walmart behind glass. It died after a month. Bought same product off Amazon, it's still running perfectly fine for over a year now. 🤷♂️
@@applicationuser9764 LOL In our store the person picking up the phone is me. because I am very hard of hearing and management will not upgrade the phones in my area so do not ring.
I worked at Walmart for several years as an overnight stocker. I was always careful with merchandise, but I was shocked to see a co-worker on a ladder removing boxed appliances from the top overstock area and dropping them to the floor. Yes, what is often in locked cases is the most frequently stolen items regardless of price.
@@tonistrickland9603 Yeah, I heard that too a while back. Fine with me. I don't think I've been to a cashier lane since the first time I did a self checkout about two years ago, and I found it was so much easier than dealing with a cashier who makes like it's chore to bag something separate from everything else. For example, I collect Hot Wheels. When I'm there, I go out of my way to only pick out the cars that don't have damaged retail cards and I place them in the basket or cart in such a manner that nothing else in there can damage them. Plus, lately I've been moving away from their blue card lines, and buying the more premium lines, which cost about 5× as much. I don't know how much you know about it, but to us, package and card presentation and condition is everything. When it's time to check out, I need those cars bagged separately and arranged in such a manner that the cards won't be damaged by the simple act of just picking the bag up. Self check out means they get bagged the way I want it done, plus I'm out of there a lot quicker when I do my own check out. Or maybe I'm not but it just feels like I am! 🤣🤣🤣
A couple of years ago, I had gone home with a Vacuum from Walmart. Opened it up only to find the box filled with various SHOES! Took the box back & they exchanged it happily. We insisted they open the box to check the contents. So glad they did! The 2nd box was filled with more SHOES! The 3rd box we checked did have a Vacuum, which we walked out with. Moral--ALWAYS open the box BEFORE leaving the store!
Something like that happened to me with some pantyhose, that come in an egg. Bought went to my car zooming out of the parking lot, grabbing the bag so when I would get to work, I would have them in my hands, go straight to the rest room to put on. So when I open it up, we'll it was empty. I had to make a u-turn and go back to the store 😩 I was late for work.
My husband works at our Wal-Mart, & he'll call me if something we need is at the best price. Plus he has his employee card that I can use that gives us an extra 10% off! Great video!
Thank you for allowing me to voice a concern about Walmart, and that concern is: managers who know nothing about the community they serve. Here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we pay particular attention to the weather, especially during Hurricane Season. Our local media outlets stay right on top of all the watches and warnings, and they pass the information along to their viewers and listeners. The manager at my neighborhood Walmart in Baker, Louisiana, just doesn't get it. When we were alerted, for example, that Hurricane Zeta was going to make landfall along the Louisiana coast on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, I went to Walmart to stock up on supplies on Sunday morning, October 25. So did hundreds of my fellow residents. Why, then, was there ONLY ONE CHECK-OUT LANE OPEN? ONE!!! The answer, of course, is obvious: because the manager had no idea how his (or her) community works. There were 15 shoppers lined up for ONE CHECK-OUT LANE, and of course, we had to be spaced 6 feet apart due to COVID-19 distancing regulations! There should have been TEN lanes open, and the sheer volume of shoppers to move through those lanes would have more than made up for the salaries paid to the extra cashiers. Am I wrong?
I'm a little late to the party, but I work at Walmart and make sure to check other stores in your areas prices too because each store sets their own prices! We cannot match other stores prices but sometimes you can order them online at the lower price.
LOVE your videos! Thank you for all you do for us. I have a tip to pass on: I am a Walmart+ member and I have all my Walmart grocery items delivered to my house. The membership is about $13 a month and I think they have a less expensive annual option. You must order at least $35 to use this service, and I usually tip the delivery person $4. It is such a blessing to go grocery shopping online! To sum it up, it costs me about $8 a week in membership+tips, but saves me sooo much time and aggravation. I highly recommend it. Oh yes, they have another options, with no minimum purchase but you pay a flat $10 delivery fee.
If you are only spending 8$ a week on tips and membership what is the dollar amount are you are ordering. A fifteen percent tip on 35$ is 5.25. With covid we are tipping 20% and that is 60$ on a 300$ order so I just go to the store and pick up.
In Canada they keep asking me to use the self checkout .... I ask if I get an employee discount as I am doing an employees job. .... they soon stop asking.

@@joeybaseball7352 Yea. You might want to be careful. Walmart has many cameras but the most are on self checkout. If you only pay for one item, you will get caught. Maybe not for a while, but you will and it will be called shoplifting and will cost you a fortune and a lot of embarrassment.
@@joeybaseball7352 Shit yeah! Self Checkout + Plandemic = free shit lmao. No one checks receipts because of social distancing. Just scan the cheap items, bag em, stick the other stuff in the bags and walkout lol And to top it off you're wearing a mask. Besides fuck China, they own everything and prices keep going up but they want you to go back and work for pocket change; fuck that!. I'm not a socialist but I call it for what it is. You spend $60 and walk out with nothing lol
Sesshōmaru’s hoe My new year’s resolution is not to go thru self checkout, I always get stuck. But that’s a great come back “can I get an employee discount since I’m doing an employee’s job”. Also it’s against the law for them to check ur receipt while u r still in the store.
@ Doesn't matter...if you're caught stealing, anything from Walmart, they let you go. I guy walked out with a huge TV, and they followed him outside, told him to give it back, he refused, said he lost his receipt, and they let him go! Wow.
Rollback can also be misleading in other ways. Years ago, my late husband and I used to do our shopping at Walmart every two weeks. There was one item we bought that was always $2.97. One time when we went back it said rollback and the price was now $3.97.
I always wanted to carry in and post yellow frowning faces pointing out what things used to be. Donuts @$1.44/dozen and fried or roasted whole chicken $2.97 comes to mind.
So great to learn about contactless returns. If you ever have to return something at the Walmart service desk, heaven help you! I swear I could jump over the counter, fill out an application, and get hired faster than I can get through that line....even if it “seems” short. It NEVER is fast and easy like it is at Target.
1:50 - There is so much packaging that the item inside is well protected. I’ve resorted to buying crunched boxes, because maybe it’s the only one left, and the item is completely protected. But the boxes of appliances that are damaged as bad as the one at 2:00 look very questionable. I would follow the advice of smart shoppers who recommend that you open the box to make sure that the correct item is in the box, and check that it isn’t damaged. But if you open a box and the item is acceptable, BUY THE BOX THAT YOU OPENED! Don’t open a box and then put it back and buy another unopened box.
Having a different price on the shelf tag and at the register is considered fraudulent, and states will fine the merchant. So after you force the store to honor the posted price, contact the state.
This is one App I’m glad I downloaded. You can never find a working price checker in the stores and rarely an actual person. But the app can price check everything and if you type in the item you’re looking for, it tells you exactly where to find it. I’m glad I watched this video bc I didn’t know you could type “clearance” in your search bar and find deals. That’s always great to know.
Very useful. Thank you. Just a general comment: I have difficulty walking due to a couple of injuries so use curbside pickup for groceries. You can also include in your grocery order non food items, ie tools, hardware, make up, gardening supplies, etc. Walmart has really streamlined their curbside pickup. Usually when I pull into designated parking area, my order is coming out, I pop the trunk, it’s loaded and I’m done in less than 10 min. What I can’t get in my grocery order, I order online. Free shipping for $35. I’ve also made returns by mail without any problems. Hope this helps.
It's such a blessing! I was partially disabled in a wreck in 2005, and I don't even want to imagine how many thousands of dollars worth of food I have thrown out over the years because, after struggling through the grocery shopping experience, I was too exhausted and my pain level was too high for so many days afterwards, food went bad before I could cook it/ prepare it for eating. Dad's going through cancer treatment now, so we have dozens of appointments each month, and being able to whiz by and pick up groceries for 2 households and get back home while only adding about 7 minutes to our trip is amazing!
Their curbside service is the best bar none! As a senior during the pandemic it's been wonderful to get very fresh fruits, veggies, regular groceries plus tools, paints, crafting supplies . Wonderful employees
I remember one time I was trying to get a store clerk oh, and I was waiting and waiting and trying to call over people to help me. So I just started screaming like a maniac "HEY CAN SOMEBODY ASSIST ME!?!?" Over and over. And sure enough three people came to see what I was screaming about. And then they asked me why were you screaming? I told him cuz I was trying to get someone to help me. And the guy literally said to me "that's not how you get somebody's attention." And I schooled him by saying, that's literally the only way I was able to get their attention.
@@joeybaseball7352 "Well, it worked. You're here." I've only done that once in my life. I was in indescribable pain. My friend had driven me to the ER and it had been a long ride. I could not take it anymore and just began to scream. It was not busy and there weren't any doctors or nurses around. But they all came running when they heard me screaming. Turned out they shot me up with the good stuff, turned out it was a kidney stone. LOL
i have asked associates walking by for help. i got "thats not my dept" when i ask her to call someone she literally just stared at me for several seconds and just walked off. didn't get anyone just ignored me. when i saw her later in another section i told her thanks for the help..she stated at me again and said 'i told you it wasn't my dept" i knocked over a jar of pasta sauce. glass shards everywhere, pasta sauce everywhere. i sent my daughter to find someone i couldn't leave with it just laying there too many kids in the store. she was gone several minutes. when she came back she said she found one lady who said she would find someone. we waited 15 more minutes. i final called the store on my cell and asked to have someone sent over. took 10 more minutes....no joke timed them on the phone. when the did come they had nothing to clean it up with. they had to leave and send someone else back. 30 minutes waiting to have some one clean a mess that really could have hurt someone. it was ridiculous. i had my 2 younger sons and daughter. try keeping an autistic 3 year old calm for that long as well as a 7 year old. i very rarely ever go in. my husband does the shopping there. my daughter in law refuses to take her family in. she has 4, 1-13 and they are rude to her everytime. the kids are very well behaved. 2 ride the cart and the 13 year pushes the food cart. she looks about 22 and has a harried look about her she is a mom of 4 and my son works out of town. they will look at her like she is trash I've seen it. so she shops at Kroger. they are very nice and accommodating. their produce and meat are way better. this edit is for everyone 5hat thinks i did this on purpose. you are nuts it was later in the visit. it was knocked off because of how the shelf was stacked with other items. i am appalled someone would suggest i act that way...i may not have worded it well but when others clearly see what was said you just want to find fault. i always have to edit after i post because i miss misspelled words... you ppl are ....
Hint, Keep the box and packing for a week or so. It makes returning an item way easier. Broken/damaged boxes aren't always the ones with broken product. I purchased a new toilet from Lowes years ago, drove the 40 miles home and opened the undamaged box and the toilet bowl was broken.40 miles back to the customer service where I complained that my time and mileage were worth something, could they give me a new toilet and maybe a bit of refund or something. Manager came along, said give me $50 back (I had paid $110) I was way happy. Clerk brought up another toilet. The box dented and tore. We opened the box in the store expecting another broken toilet. Wasn't a scratch on it. Other times I've asked for further discounts on opened or damaged boxes, sometimes you get a healthy reduction, doesn't hurt to ask.
Yes, online prices can be much lower. I was looking at dish towels I liked on my Walmart's site. Then was at the store a few days later, and the same towels were priced twice as much! Went home and ordered them online.
I work at Costco. Believe it or not.. I've seen members literally rip open boxes themselves just to "feel" the item or see that it's the same color as what's in the box. Then they put it back on the shelf and take an unopened/undamaged one. I seriously HATE this! I saw a man actually tear open a task chair box when he was waiting in a long line to pay. I was literally standing from a distance watching this. It was so animalistic. My jaw was dropping in awe!
One thing that you didn't mention is that Walmart buys products in such large amounts that many companies will agree to making a lower quality item just to get a contract. A few years ago I found some Dickies shorts that were really inexpensive. When I got them home and compared them with the ones I bought at a regular store, I saw many areas where the quality just wasn't the same.
That's the same with electronics. I have a buddy that works at Samsung. He said that the TV's that get sent to Walmart, roll off of a separate assembly line made with cheaper components.
Love your videos!! Unfortunately, I’ve tried the produce at Walmart. It does look good when I buy it, it just doesn’t last very long before it really starts to go bad.
I bought 2 bags of apples, different varieties from different stores. They both had molded seeds. The exterior was fine. Clearly not WM fault. Still yuck. Most stuff is fine.
I've been shopping Walmart grocery for about 15 yrs. Early on, the produce was really bad. In the last several years, however, their produce has become comparable to the regular markets in my area. Occasionally I will find some crap items, but the produce has dramatically improved in recent years, at least in the Walmart where I shop.
Point One, the damaged boxes. I work Housewares at my local Walmart. This is how these boxes come in off the truck. Coming from the warehouses, products are not neatly stacked on pallets and wrapped to avoid movement. Would be common sense, right? Nope! Products (everything from every department is just mish-mashed stacked in the truck. Then they shift during transport. Hence the damaged boxes. And this isn't just with Walmart. This is how most trucks for most stores are done (my husband used to work for a local True Value and it was the same situation. He also worked for Lowes Hardware - same thing.) So, please don't blame the local store ... it starts at the warehouses (if not when the manufacturer ships to the warehouses). Then, you have customers who literally rip open boxes and packaging to look inside, even though all the info you would need is written on the box/packaging. If I am able to get everything back in properly, then I have to tape and try to make it look as nice as possible for the next customer.
It’s okay at my local Sams I work at, on one our our shipments for 99 supplies, the person who set up the pallet at the warehouse put the cleaning chemicals in the middle of the pallet 🤦🏻♀️ so when it got to us it had busted open and leaked all the way to the bottom of that pallet.
I want to touch on #9. I worked for a soy milk company and worked directly with the FDA. Because of Walmart there is a Certification called SQF, or Safe Quality Foods. Their audit is nearly twice as strict as the FDA audits. They will fail you for stuff you wouldn't imagine. Everything you see in the cooler section, at least from the dairy side that I worked with of the highest standards.
New subscriber here, really enjoy the content. Can you do a video on the "penny shopping" phenomenon? Other UA-camrs occasionally discuss it but it still seems a bit regional to me. You have such a crisp and concise style, thank you. Clarity is so important and you deliver that so well ! Great job!
I can tell you how some of that damage happens. I work for FedEx and I can vouch for the fact that it does often happens during shipping. I’m ashamed to admit it but I see it first hand.
A big mistake that many shoppers make at Walmart is thinking if the tag says 2 for $5 they buy 2 because they think they have to buy 2 to get the "special" price. The price is $2.50/item regardless if you buy 1 or if you buy 10. It is all about a subconscious thing in the brain with making you think you are getting a better deal by purchasing 2 and many other stores require that but often at Walmart they just price it that way to get you to buy more or think it is a better deal.
I agree to this with more stores than just Walmart. The important thing is just to know your prices before shopping if it is possible to do so.I have seen some stores that may have an item that usually costs 1.45 ea. and then put an ad out to get everyone to think it is a great deal for 2/ $3.
The Walmart app is my bff, they often don't update prices on items that may be on clearance and trying to find a working price scanner good luck. I use the app to check prices and find a lot of "hidden" clearance. And check multiple stores, prices may be lower at other stores😩
@@atcmadness4351 just scan with the app. But if I know exactly what I'm looking for i price check on the app the surrounding stores and go to the cheaper one.
@@Lirio.Branca I have gotten some nice things that way. Problem is I was so excited at the price, I bought a top and still have not worn it. Just sayin’.
@@wsue1038 yes, guilty of that too but I try now to avoid that. If I buy clothes it's mostly things I know I will use, such as I avoid seasonal clothes that will most likely not get used right away or at all.
Hello Love your videos, I work in retail 21 years and counting. . . . . . .and imho the damage is usually in shipping from the warehouse because we get alot of damages right off the truck from the people who load the pallets in the warehouse, if you come across a package with a slit in it THAT is without a doubt from the warehouse, they cut the shrink wrap with the cutters at full length and put slits in the products as they are cutting downward. . . . . . .
One mistake I Will Never make again at Walmart, I will Never buy a money order from Walmart. The last one I bought and mailed to pay on a credit card was intercepted and cashed. Yes, someone took my money order and cashed it. I went to walmart to see what they can do about it and they had me to call a service number. The money order was for $75.oo and they wanted me to pay $16.oo for them to investigate the issue and correct it. So, since walmart can not guarantee the safety and security of their money orders then i will simply not get them from walmart at all.
It was over a year ago. I just don't give them the money or put myself back into that position again. Plus I warn people on how underhanded they are with their Money Orders. I figure the more people who know about it the less it will happen to someone else.
@Clyde McClain It's my understanding is that Walmart and most retailers do not guarantee or have any kind of insurance on their money orders. So if it gets cashed by someone other than the intended person/entity you have no recourse 99% of the time. If you get it from the post office, bank , etc. part of the reason they are more expensive is because they are insured. So if your money order gets in the wrong hands they will investigate and insure you get your money back. A few years back I bought a $250 money order that was intercepted and cashed by the wrong person. I was lucky that the merchant traced it and I got my money back. They did advise me that their policy was not to investigate but they would do their best. It was a few years ago so things could have changed but I'm pretty sure this still is true. Hope this helps others not to lose their hard earned money.
Be careful at other places too. Especially check cashing stores. Many people think all money orders are guaranteed, but some aren't. Best bet I've found is from your bank. They cost a bit more, but your chance at recovering after lost or stolen is much better. I was a property manager for about 20 years and saw many tenants learn that the hard way.
I'm so glad I read this thread. I have used Walmart money orders for years, mailed them, & never had a problem, but there's always a first time. Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for these good tips, Mr Deal Guy.😊 Question… If you start a return at the kiosk and get the QR code, where do you put the item you’re returning?? How do you make sure that the credit goes back into your account after you’ve returned it if you never talk to customer service? Thanks!
Matt, Your videos are very enlightening. As a senior citizen with limited mobility I gave been ordering groceries from Walmart for delivery. The pandemic has me practically housebound. For the most part I would encourage grocery shopping for delivery. Unfortunately often the main thing wanted is out of stock & I don't know that till after an order is sent. Matt, your videos are interesting & your Canadian accent is intriguing for this old Southern steel magnolia. GOD BLESS!
I have ordered my groceries from Walmart and picked up at store for nearly 2 years. I order produce and meat and have never had a problem with any of it. The produce is always fresh and so is the meat. The "use by" dates have always been good and I have never felt like they are "getting rid" of something at my expense. I have also had a couple of errors in my grocery order and it is simple to let them know. In both instances, my money was refunded promptly. I know a lot of people don't like Walmart, but I am not one of them. I like Walmart.
@@musicfanhawk4523 I disagree. I think many can say the same (including me), you just don't hear about them. People are quick to complain, but few bother to write a good review. In a way, that's understandable....kind of the "no news is good news" theory. I know many people who love the pickup service for groceries, and the lot is quite busy. If they were unhappy, they wouldn't come back. Like B. Bell, I've used it for years with only one complaint, which was quickly resolved and had nothing to do with freshness of produce.
Hello Matt, I ordered online from Walmart and I didn't noticed that the inventory and delivery was not handled by Walmart. I ended up getting the order from China with no way to track the order. Walmart online is like Amazon. I did not expect that and I was really disappointed by this.
I haven't checked lately, but I think when you are on the Walmart online site, you can choose "walmart only" as the seller. Not 100% foolproof I guess, but ups your chances.
I am the (not so) proud owner of two world’s smallest night stands thanks to Walmart’s funky inventory. I had no idea they were outsourced to another company. When I received them ($175 for the pair), the measurements were way off and they would fit a child’s room, not an adult’s. I wanted to return them and they quoted a 20% restocking fee, plus I would pay return shipping (x2). I ended up keeping them. They’re now in my office, under my desk as extra (albeit small) storage.
I worked at Walmart. The motto is " Do more for less. It starts with their employees. They don't pay a living wage and keep people working part=time so as not to have to provide insurance or any benefits. Employees have to get food stamps to be able to eat. Single people don't get support. I worked with many people who came to work and had no lunch. We asked the supervisor if they could help by giving people more hours or providing an emergency food program. . He response was flippant at best and thought it was good people knew how to suffer. He also quoted the company motto: We do more for LESS; I guess he thought that starving people was just fine as long as he was able to make his bonus for keeping costs down. I know what you are saying --employees have no loyalty to the store.
Thanks for the video! I learned a good amount there. As par your boxes being damaged, and to look at those before buying the product, check over shirts as well. I have picked up shirts, and when I got them home, there were tiny rips in it, or strings that were poking out. Be careful buying shirts or sweatshirts online as well. I've done that once with the same results.
I used to work at Wal-Mart. I saw returns repackaged and put on the shrink wraps machine. I saw returned lawn mowers left on the patio in the weather and sold as is. If you buy electronic devices, check the content before you leave the parking lot. Keep your receipt! Caveat Emptor!
Wow I didn't know that about searching for clearance items. Also, the 3rd party retailer thing is really annoying. Usually if it doesn't say 2 day shipping then you know it's coming from China or something. 💜
Point 4, Matt is correct. Every store (even within the same city) can be different as to which products are locked up .... mainly because they are hot stolen items. And since this virus started, theft has gotten worse.
@@BetsyArcherellaThe register sometimes rings up the wrong price, especially soft drinks and fresh fruit. I often use my cell phone to photograph products and prices of these, to show at the register.
When you typed in "clearance" I noticed that the prices had many different last numbers. Do we still need to go by the 0-1 ending for the final prices?
Cheap Walmart hack: if you buy Ozium in automotive, they sell 3.5 ounces for $4.87. If you go to the fragrance aisle in the same store, they sell Ozium for 8 ounces for $5.12. 25 cents more gets you more than twice the amount.
A grocery item tip: If you want a can of mushrooms, don’t go to the aisle that sells mushrooms and olives. Instead, go to the aisle that sells pre-made pizza crust, pizza sauce, etc. In that area, they also have mushrooms, but way cheaper. Go figure.
I see someone mentioned the same holds true for Mushrooms, and I'm not surprised - coffee filters are the same way, at least the kind my parents used: nearly a dollar less if bought on the appliance aisle vs. the coffee aisle.
I have had SO MANY issues with how my delivered orders...from big bag of M&Ms melting and crushed to card board box of tampons boxed with 12+ cans of DOG FOOD tampon boxes were in pieces AND 75% of cans were dented ( WTH)😮 apparently they don't ship the item they KICK THEM FACRORY TO HOUSE....
I had ordered groceries for curbside pick-up three times. I specifically told them I did not want substitutions after the first order. They did anyway and sent more expensive items or they sent the wrong number. It just ended up costing more. then I had originally ordered. . It was more trouble to get it corrected than it was worth. I live in an area where I have access to 3 Wal-Marts. When I would go pick up, they had the order at a different store. This happened twice. I gave up; ordering on-line.
When you buy clothes on Walmart online, you not only might not be buying from Walmart itself but you might not even be buying from anywhere in North America. You have to make sure if you are buying clothing that you check the size chart and chose the right size. I ordered a number of overalls from Walmart. I love overalls. Anyway, I even ordered them 2 sizes bigger than me so that they would be nice and loose. When they came, a 5X for me was a S or XS. They would have just fit my one leg! I guess where the clothes came from, they measure women very differently than here.
Hi Matt, I truly appreciate what you're doing for us, I was Blessed to come across your videos, I spend a small fortune at Walmart (not by choice) where I live Walmart is one of the few places I can shop at, Not knowing how to shop they're VERY EXPENSIVE, because of your videos I will be saving a lot of money! Having delivered for Amazon, I am often surprised at the things I see people order for delivery. I've seen the way it is handled in the warehouse and delivery...and it's not usually in a gentle manner. I've seen microwaves and other easily damaged items being handled. I delivered once package that had a delicate glass decoration in it. I shook it, and it was already in pieces.
I used to unload trucks for Wal-Mart and I can say (based on my experience) he is correct about the treatment of the stuff. With the exception of a few things like dog food and TVs, their trucks aren't palletized. What I mean is that whoever unloads the truck has to unload it 1 box at a time onto a roller conveyer. So because of how they pressure with hours and schedules etc, you're told to grab and sling. Just terrible. I could go on and on about the issues with Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, especially in small towns like mine, you about have to go there
Produce at Walmart has greatly improved over the years. I purchase a lot of mine there now. I have a Sprouts store close by and enjoy it as well but honestly, I’ve had things that I buy at Sprouts go moldy or bad quickly, several times. Not so much from Walmart produce.
Just a little say the Walmart that I use to work at would always have fresh produces, diaries, meats and frozen. Because the store doesn't have big fridges nor freezers, so we would receive those daily.
Regarding Walmart’s produce - I work for a Fortune 500 technology company that sells temperature recorders to monitor products while they’re in transit. Produce suppliers are our largest customer base & we won the Walmart deal a few years ago when they required ALL suppliers of perishable foods (not just produce) to only use our temp recorders on the trailers inbound to their DC’s. Let me tell you, Walmart is by far the strictest grocery retailer in the US with their suppliers & ensuring all perishable foods that arrive at their DC’s are fully inspected for quality control. They are quick to reject a load & will even fine their vendors if they don’t have the right temp recorder included on the load. Yet whenever I look at Walmart’s produce (I try maybe every other time I go, so once a month or slightly longer), at the stores local to me in South Florida, it’s clear it was not appropriately stored once it was transported from one of their DC’s to the store level. The few times it has looked decent, if not eaten in 3 days, it’s always gone bad. However when I travel to Central New York a few times a year, Walmart’s produce does appear to look better, but it never lasts as long as the exact same item I bought at Publix, Costco or even Aldi. Even their prepared produce (ex: cut up honeydew chunks sold in a plastic bowl) is not fresh. Due to my line of work, I know where the ball is being dropped, but since they’re such a huge corporation, I doubt it’ll change anytime soon.
Having said that they have this great relationship with some top brands like Kleenex, if you look closely and compare, the actual square inch size of the same name brand may differ from another outlet like Costco. I found that Charmin TP squares were significantly smaller than the same ones bought at Costco. Meaning you were actually using MORE than you would if you bought from Costco. Yeah, I know, Im nitpicking but it pays off in the long run. I also take note of the amounts in the boxes of cereal etc and then break it down into a common denominator. That way when Im shopping at another store I can compare apples to apples without too much trouble.
My buddy works at Walmart he said that you can actually haggle with people over the prices they are allowed to discount it up to 15% without needing a managers approval
I did this once with a vacuum. The only box on the shelf looked like it had been punted 100yards.. got 10% off. Employee was just a normal sales associate and he didn't have to call for backup.
Not so sure about this. My husband and I tried to buy over sized dish matts, the last 2 and someone had ripped the tags off of them. The cashier wouldnt try to give us a fair price ( we had brought her the tag of a similar item) nor would she sell them too us. We purchased our other items and left. Was very strange.
I have always purchased Great Value assuming it was the cheapest. Here lately though I have noticed this is not the case. Several name brand items are cheaper than the Walmart brand.
I actually worked through the holidays at Walmart and I’ll tell you 2 “tricks” I learned. If you are looking for a particular item and can’t find it, ask a store associate to check in the back. There are overstocks in the back that reaches the ceilings but could have an empty spot on the shelves. That’s due to lack of employees/lazy employees who just haven’t stocked the shelves. The second truck is opening the Walmart bags. If you grab the handles and slightly pull away from each other there will be little triangular shapes that pop upright below the handle of the bag and if you pull on a triangle the bag opens right away Just an FYI. 👍😜
For trick #1 there are two caveats you failed to mention: 1) Finding an Associate to check in the back for you. 2) IF you were lucky to find an employee to check for you, wondering if they ACTUALLY CHECKED or did they stand in in back room talking to a friend for a few minutes. this is the most likely of the two options.) I had worked in Retail Management (never at a Walmart) for 20+ years and am familiar with the work ethics (or rather "Lack of") of young employees, which has steadily gotten worse through the years.
Great video. Thanks for sharing all this great information with us. I espoused love how to properly read the Rollback, sale, and clearance tags. I agree with you, their produce is definitely better than it used to be.
Having worked unloading both grocery and general merchandise freight I found that it seemed weird that grocery items were palletized with shrink wrap to protect those items, however general merchandise freight wasn’t. General merchandise freight was stacked as loose individual items - which was a pain to unload. Whoever loaded those trucks never seemed to recognize that really heavy items shouldn’t be stacked on top of light items, because during the trucks ride to the store those light items will get damaged. I’ve seen TVs laid flat on the bed of the truck with all sorts of freight on top of them, although the tv boxes should have been stacked on their edge. I never understood why this type of freight couldn’t be palletized as well. As it stands now, I rarely shop at Walmart because I can usually get what I need or want online and get it shipped to me without it being damaged.
Also, always take items over to the scanners on the poles. Sometimes they haven't changed the sticker on the shelf yet, so the item may be cheaper or more expensive depending on the promotion.
The closest Walmart to me completely eliminated cashiers. It's all self checkout. Unfortunately, people keep shopping there which encourages corporate to eliminate cashiers chainwide.
@@riverraisin1 I refuse to use a self checkout. I would if your bill total had 10% taken off because you saved them the cost of paying an employee to do it.
I shop online and pickup but it’s weird some of the things they ship to you instead of allowing you to pick them up. Example: Lays potato chips large bag has to be shipped but Fritos doesn’t. Some Pedigree options also. Then you wait on the 3 days and sometimes the product is damaged. Love this channel!!!!
I was looking for rye bread. The only one I found was $3.37. I was out of bread so I bought 4 loaves. At check out, the price changed. It was supposed to be about fourteen dollars and I got free shipping. At check out it was double that price. I took it and tried to notify them of this price gouge. They said it was another company and that is why. I got email telling me my order had been delivered so I looked and there was small box with two loaves of bread. I then checked my email and it said the order was delivered so I also got cheated out of two other loaves. I have no car or way to ship it back. I will never let that happen again. I think it is some kind of scam. I paid twenty seven dollars for two loaves of bread.
One other thing is use the phone app and scan before you buy it may give you a cheaper price and you can directly compare to the website and they will price match it. I buy alot of stuff on clearance that show a different price. The other thing is look on the top shelf for stuff you don't see on the lower shelves they may be on clearance as well.
@Grace Stephens I know, right!? 🤣 If I can't find an employee around, I always find the Mop aisle. Grap a mop off the display, and return to the item I need, that was placed on the very top shelf. I use the mop stick to nudge item toward me and grab it. Then I return the mop to its original display. 😁😁
Love the info you bring to us,thanks you’re awesome!😊Just thought I would give everyone a heads up on afew more issues with Walmart electronics. In the last few years I have bought several electronics and found I had gotten a used damaged ( even dirty) item.A shark hand held vac full of dirt and when I plugged it in it nearly set fire.A Kuerig Elite that had no filter and just because it was gold it cost 30.00 more. And as far as thier Laser delivery it is horrible, thejy delivered my parcel at 10:15 pm and threw it on the sidewalk at a bus stop.So I am not a fan for good reason. One more issue online shopping some items ship from China and you will wait months to get it.Rant over.🙃
I wished Walmart had an isle for special needs toys .it makes me tear up when I do my Christmas shopping and there is no variety of toys for my blind granddaughter 😕
Be careful of those rollbacks! My center aisle had mixed nuts on for $2.50…but they kept ringing up for $5.00. I started having the cashier scan that first and adjust it. This went on for 2 months. Price was never corrected even after I mentioned it to the manager and noted it on their survey.
I get great advice here. Many of the deal channels are, "Get this deal, get the coupon, this app, put in code, and wait for this deal..." and I don't have time or the patience for all of that. Your videos are simple and practical.
I do the same and then take that actual item and if there is something wrong I point it out to a clerk and open another until I find everything is in good order. I have done this my entire adult life . I don't rip things open but rather open them the way they were designed so they are easily repacked .
I am a truck driver and the produce is coming from the exact same suppliers as Whole Foods and Kroger. Taylor Farms is the largest produce wholesaler in America. Everyone uses them.
I've noticed with rollbacks, lots of times the price is significantly higher than the week before. They presume no one pays attention. I do. Sometimes the old price will still be there. Also, the few things you can buy in bulk (like a box of 6 gallon jugs of water) are priced cheaper per item than they are individually, but at the checkout that barcode "never works", so you have to use the higher price on the individual ones, and now you're stuck with 6 when all you really needed was 2, you just got the box for the deal. I started leaving them at the checkout, ticked off that it always happened, and now they stopped selling them. They are also slowly doing away with name brands and leaving their own "great value".
When I’m not used to find a particular item there, I ask any salesman on the floor and they actually are more than cheerfully want to help u find that item AND actually will walk u right to it✝️🙏🏻
I’ve found that the rollback price is the price it’s been. The “was” price listed on the sign beside the rollback price is the price it’s about to go up to.
I have seen rollback prices on signs at the most local Walmart that were actually HIGHER than the "was" prices and talked to employees about it and had them thank me for it. Sometimes they are in such a hurry that they do not notice the rollback and "was" are supposed to be reversed.
Good Morning love ur videos!!! I have also noticed that in my area there r 3 Walmarts and the price difference between the stores are completely disturbing. Walmart #1 is selling 5 doz. Eggs for 2.33 #2 selling same eggs is 4.55 #3 store sells the same eggs for 8.55 these 3 stores are with in 10 mile radios buyer b ware
I also noticed when I took my daughter to college that the Walmart near the college had significantly higher prices on necessities than my local Walmart.
Yes I have more than 5 Walmart close by and the prices do differ depending on the area they are located at. The better the area, the higher the prices but the better the merchandise too.
Is there a way to know when the delivery truck will arrive? Specifically, I was told that ammunition is delivered to Walmart by FEDEX. Is there a schedule, time of the month etc., to predict when the ammunition will be in store?
Hi Matt. You are the greatest. Thanks for all the inside tips &tricks. I hate being treat like a PIA just because I have a question at stores. You are the best
I hate the fact they never open enough checkout stands. When you get five and six people in each line that’s too many they should open more. Instead of standing around talking to each other😁
Back in the 80's and 90's walmart used to have signs by the register that said if there were more than 3 people in line they would open another register.
I have a “hint” that I ALWAYS use at Walmart. Because the price tags are often wrong...I use the app to scan the item for the correct price. Just make sure you are on the in store section.
Absolutely!! You can find some great deals this way! I was showing my daughter this trick, and I just happened to grab the closest item to me. Ha! It was on an end cap and was 90% off, and not marked as such. She went nuts! Now I can’t get her out of Walmart, and it takes her 20x as long to grab a bag of dog food. 🤦🏼♀️🙄
I'm really bad. If I can't find the price on something I take it with me until I find a scanner that works. If the price is ridicules I leave it there. I've already carried it around the store once. If they don't like having to pay a worker to do go backs then they should make sure they have working scanners. I have also left stuff at the check out when it rang up for more than what I saw. Normally I just tell them not to bother with a price check, I've already waited in line 10 minutes and I'm not going to wait ten more. Then I indicate the people behind me and say "And it's not their fault they don't deserve to stand around longer." I try to be polite to the checkout person. They have no control and no one listens to them. Feel sorry for a lot of them.
@@francisdhomer5910 well, because of COVID, many stores have removed the self scanners. But, if your lucky enough to find someone with a scanner, they'll check it for you. And I understand about not having the price check at the register. But, if it was the one thing I came in for, I might still ask for it if I really need it. Otherwise, I'll walk out without it.
I find the prices at my Walmart nearly always ring up correctly. When I do find differences, usually the price is lower. I dont remember ever being charged a higher price except once. Snapple was priced lower on the display than I was being charged. It took a good month to find this corrected at the store. I think Walmart does a good job on prices. Other retailers should do so well.
We ordered a microwave from Best Buy. We had to have it reordered twice! Both times the boxes were nearly destroyed as was the enclosed microwave. Therefore, how would you recommend Best Buy?.....
Walmart has INSANE prices for those odd shaped packages of cherry tomatoes. $1.79 for a small container is pretty good when the same container at Safeway is close to $3.75. And, at Costco, you can buy a gigantic plastic container of cherry tomatoes for $6.00, I think. Blast it, I can't remember now how much they are at Costco but I did buy a package recently and the tomatoes were yellow, red, and that dark brown variety that is really sweet...that's good snacking right there!
I always purchase seasonal and holiday items post season and Holiday! I remember one year with a buggy completely full with things for my mother and I that were Christmas oriented. I swear that packed buggy cost me about $10!

Wal-Mart has 85% of their employees working part-time They do this so don't have to pay health insurance or benefits. Part-time employees' work schedule can never exceeds 60 hours in a 2 week pay period. They try to keep them to make less than $300.00 a week before taxes. If you think that little bit is living high, you really don't know how much it costs to live in today's economy. Groceries for one person would be at least 200.00, transportation (bus) 40,00, rent 400.00 (low-income housing), That in itself is 640.00 out of the take-home of about 900.00 per month. 240.00 is left.

What I absolutely HATE about Walmart is that they have 20 checkout lanes but only 2 are open which causes their lines to be ridiculously looooong 😠
Walmart is eventually doing away with cashiers and only going to have Self Check Out lanes.
@@tonistrickland9603
Yeah, I heard that too a while back. 🤣🤣🤣
thats when you go to the self check out and only scan half your stuff.... talk about bargains!

Am I wrong?
Most people will wait. So it didn’t cause more people in the store. It’s actually saving money that’s why they do it.
Walmart does this all the time, all over. They intentionally understaff their stores, Walmart is one of the greediest companies on the planet.
$4........?
In Canada they keep asking me to use the self checkout .... I ask if I get an employee discount as I am doing an employees job. .... they soon stop asking.
@@joeybaseball7352 Yea. You might want to be careful. Walmart has many cameras but the most are on self checkout. If you only pay for one item, you will get caught. Maybe not for a while, but you will and it will be called shoplifting and will cost you a fortune and a lot of embarrassment.

Sesshōmaru’s hoe My new year’s resolution is not to go thru self checkout, I always get stuck. But that’s a great come back “can I get an employee discount since I’m doing an employee’s job”. Also it’s against the law for them to check ur receipt while u r still in the store.

Rollback can also be misleading in other ways. Years ago, my late husband and I used to do our shopping at Walmart every two weeks. There was one item we bought that was always $2.97. One time when we went back it said rollback and the price was now $3.97.
inflation
It was rolled back to who knows when...lol.
It NEVER is fast and easy like it is at Target.
yeah probaably great for the people putting used stuff in box and returning it too it all makes sense now
Depends on the time of day here. We have the luxury of shopping when most people are working.
I find that products may ring up differently than the shelf tag. So now, if I see a price that seems too good to be true, I take a photo of it.
I do the same thing!
Great Idea ❤

Very useful. Thank you. Just a general comment: I have difficulty walking due to a couple of injuries so use curbside pickup for groceries. You can also include in your grocery order non food items, ie tools, hardware, make up, gardening supplies, etc. Walmart has really streamlined their curbside pickup. Usually when I pull into designated parking area, my order is coming out, I pop the trunk, it’s loaded and I’m done in less than 10 min. What I can’t get in my grocery order, I order online. Free shipping for $35. I’ve also made returns by mail without any problems. Hope this helps.
I love grocery pickup. Just have to check the items when I get home for any issues.
Wonderful employees

i have asked associates walking by for help. i got "thats not my dept" when i ask her to call someone she literally just stared at me for several seconds and just walked off. didn't get anyone just ignored me. when i saw her later in another section i told her thanks for the help..she stated at me again and said 'i told you it wasn't my dept" i knocked over a jar of pasta sauce. glass shards everywhere, pasta sauce everywhere. i sent my daughter to find someone i couldn't leave with it just laying there too many kids in the store. she was gone several minutes. when she came back she said she found one lady who said she would find someone. we waited 15 more minutes. i final called the store on my cell and asked to have someone sent over. took 10 more minutes....no joke timed them on the phone. when the did come they had nothing to clean it up with. they had to leave and send someone else back.
@diver dave did that before.

YES!!!! Their Dickies bar and is (or was) sub par. I love the Dickies brand and was sad to see how poor the quality was from Walmart. Bummer!

He is so right about the name brands being less at Walmart a lot of times, I love it!
I’ve worked at Walmart for 5 years and you just taught me stuff I didn’t know! 😂
Love your videos!! Unfortunately, I’ve tried the produce at Walmart. It does look good when I buy it, it just doesn’t last very long before it really starts to go bad.
My roommate bought a 3# bag of tangerines. It started to go bad within three weeks.
@@patriciaaturner289 3 Weeks. Do you think they last forever?
Petco wraps their stock when it comes off the truck
Amazon is the same way
Good point Eyre, the pallets should be shrink wrapped before distribution, and yes this is common sense.
Will they discount products with damaged packaging?
We're aware! 😅 Also, if FedEx guys could stop eating all the Christmas candy shipped- that'd be great! Thanks! 🤣
At a gas station recently I saw candy at "2 for $3.00 or regular price each".
Caught several "sale"prices that were morè then the regular price.
Grocery stores use this tactic a lot.
Buy one get one Free
I agree to this with more stores than just Walmart. The important thing is just to know your prices before shopping if it is possible to do so.I have seen some stores that may have an item that usually costs 1.45 ea. and then put an ad out to get everyone to think it is a great deal for 2/ $3.
The Walmart app is my bff, they often don't update prices on items that may be on clearance and trying to find a working price scanner good luck. I use the app to check prices and find a lot of "hidden" clearance. And check multiple stores, prices may be lower at other stores😩
Yep this is what should be #12 - using the app to find hidden secret clearance.
Just type in clearance??
@@atcmadness4351 just scan with the app. But if I know exactly what I'm looking for i price check on the app the surrounding stores and go to the cheaper one.
@@Lirio.Branca I have gotten some nice things that way. Problem is I was so excited at the price, I bought a top and still have not worn it. Just sayin’.

Hello Love your videos, I work in retail 21 years and counting. . . . . . .and imho the damage is usually in shipping from the warehouse because we get alot of damages right off the truck from the people who load the pallets in the warehouse, if you come across a package with a slit in it THAT is without a doubt from the warehouse, they cut the shrink wrap with the cutters at full length and put slits in the products as they are cutting downward. . . . . . .
You are far better than any graphics, don’t change a thing! Thank you for all of your time!
1 thumb up for Tomato post
Be careful at other places too. Especially check cashing stores. Many people think all money orders are guaranteed, but some aren't. Best bet I've found is from your bank. They cost a bit more, but your chance at recovering after lost or stolen is much better. I was a property manager for about 20 years and saw many tenants learn that the hard way.
I'm so glad I read this thread. I have used Walmart money orders for years, mailed them, & never had a problem, but there's always a first time. Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for these good tips, Mr Deal Guy.😊
Question… If you start a return at the kiosk and get the QR code, where do you put the item you’re returning?? How do you make sure that the credit goes back into your account after you’ve returned it if you never talk to customer service? Thanks!
Matt, Your videos are very enlightening. As a senior citizen with limited mobility I gave been ordering groceries from Walmart for delivery. The pandemic has me practically housebound. For the most part I would encourage grocery shopping for delivery. Unfortunately often the main thing wanted is out of stock & I don't know that till after an order is sent.

Just be careful you buy pre mixed salads, I had 3 that didn't expire but the plastic was torn and lettuce turned brown!

Yes, their online marketplace can be very confusing at times
Walmart online is maybe like Amazon 20 years ago. They are still not in this century for the online buying market.
I worked at Walmart for 5 years, the employees want you to know. They don't care about the company. Trust me.
Why should they?

Go figure.

I had ordered groceries for curbside pick-up three times. I specifically told them I did not want substitutions after the first order. They did anyway and sent more expensive items or they sent the wrong number. It just ended up costing more. then I had originally ordered. . It was more trouble to get it corrected than it was worth.

Wow, never thought of that. Interesting!
They only discount things 10% before management is called
Not so sure about this. My husband and I tried to buy over sized dish matts, the last 2 and someone had ripped the tags off of them. The cashier wouldnt try to give us a fair price ( we had brought her the tag of a similar item) nor would she sell them too us. We purchased our other items and left. Was very strange.
@@KCSMama08 Yep. Never had been able to get a discount at mine with their checkout employees either.
For trick #1 there are two caveats you failed to mention:
1) Finding an Associate to check in the back for you.
2) IF you were lucky to find an employee to check for you, wondering if they ACTUALLY CHECKED or did they stand in in back room talking to a friend for a few minutes. this is the most likely of the two options.)
I had worked in Retail Management (never at a Walmart) for 20+ years and am familiar with the work ethics (or rather "Lack of") of young employees, which has steadily gotten worse through the years.
"Rollback" means they've raised the price 70% + and then lowered it about 10%...
Also, always take items over to the scanners on the poles. Sometimes they haven't changed the sticker on the shelf yet, so the item may be cheaper or more expensive depending on the promotion.
Instead of putting more scanners up, they took them all done where I shop. Pa.
Just use your phone & scan it!
Scanners came down cause they were always broken. Walmart app on your phone while in store shopping is the very best tool.
Not enough cashier's a lot of us don't or can't use automat ✔ out
That's by design to coax you to self
If it wasn't for people like us,who like to use cashiers...ie interacting with people they wouldn't have a JOB
I have learned to open and examine everything I'm going to buy in the store. Make sure everything I need and is marked as included is in there
I do the same and then take that actual item and if there is something wrong I point it out to a clerk and open another until I find everything is in good order. I have done this my entire adult life . I don't rip things open but rather open them the way they were designed so they are easily repacked .
Love your videos and your personality !
Matt moved from Cleveland to Evansville Indiana miss seeing you on the morning news glad you’re still giving it he^^!!!!
Wondered why I hadn't seen him on WKYC lately.
Good tip Betsy!
Wow that is a huge price difference!
Hi Matt!! Glad I found your Channel. Awesome Walmart info 👏🏼
@@francisdhomer5910 what? Are you punishing some unknown employee who will have to put it back? This is a bit mean/lazy.
We ordered a microwave from Best Buy. We had to have it reordered twice! Both times the boxes were nearly destroyed as was the enclosed microwave. Therefore, how would you recommend Best Buy?.....
My son's been working at Walmart for over 2 years in the electronics section, and agrees with you 100% one just about everything you said on here.
When I needed a new coffee machine I went to Walmart. They had one in stock in the model I wanted. The box was destroyed. Left empty handed.
I appreciate your time thank you!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Great information thank you! Love your enthusiasm. Don’t change...
0:05 I'm going to assume that most employees that are making poverty wages at Walmart probably do not care if you know these secrets.
Poverty wages baloney. $15/hour is better then you can make working at a hospital, doctor's office or most office jobs in our area.
@@sheilamarie3788 !5.00 hours an hour for 20-30 hours a week does not pay the rent or buy groceries. No money has been set aside for utilities and hair cuts, clothing, or any kind of health insurance. I would call that poverty wages.
@@yolandadenny8692 a person in my area working a non-degreed hospital, doctor's office or office job is lucky to make $10-12 an hour. $15 at Walmart still beats that. Where you live is apparently different. It's all relative.
@@sheilamarie3788 I live in a city. Rent here starts at 400.00 per month w/o utilities. Income for a week at 10.00 is 400. Walmart at 15 for 20 hours is 300.00. Workers get 20 -25 hours per week to save on benefis.
@@yolandadenny8692 $200.00 a week for groceries? Way too high! Should be 60-$80 unless you're getting once a month bulk items like bathroom tissue and paper towels. Do you shop at Aldi's? Selective shopping cutting out expensive meats and prepackaged foods helps tremendously.
