@Advicefortheelderly......Merry Christmas to you and yours and all here. Thanks for the wishes. I'm doing all I can when I can and IF I can and get help when I can. Doing my best to keep it simple since it's all I can manage now, really hard since I'm a pain in the neck perfectionist but I'm learning😂
Get rid of as much stuff as possible! Remember every item that goes out the door and never returns is an item that you'll never have to clean, dust, launder, fold or tidy up again.
I love a house that's been edited! It's true that less is more! When there's too much stuff, it feels claustrophobic, and is NEVER totally clean. The end result is depressing, dusty, and dated.
@@1234cheerful I'm decluttering now in 60s , started some time ago but I'm starting to see a bit of headway , less ornaments easier to dust , giving items away means more cupboard space , if I was fitter it would have been done ages ago ,
I've realized I'm not going to find anyone to help me, so I looked on Amazon for some helpful new tools. Found a long handled brush and scrubber cloth for the shower. Also a toilet mop. I can't clean the outside of the toilet bowl and it's very dusty. Hoping the mop will help me do that. I like this information. Being a successful elder person takes practice. After all it's new to us. We've never been old before and there's no manual for it! 😅
@lenoregorman4688 Good idea. I found on Amazon a Fuller Brush toilet mop w a self wringer. Going to bring in a chair and see what I can do with that. 😃
If your budget allows, consider replacing your standard toilet with a sleek modern style with NO exterior contours. Then it can be cleaned with one of those things meant to clean the inside of your windshield. You can even sit on a chair while you do it. I LOVE mine!
I completely make one side o my bed at a time. I remove the sheets and covers half way, to the middle of the bed. Then I put the sheets on and the covers on that side. Then I go to the other side and pull off the sheets and from the middle of the bed I pull the sheets to that side. Then pull the covers over. You have made your bed without going back and forth. I’m in a wheelchair and learned this at the hospital. May God bless you
Bless you for saying this about 1 sided bed making. I am not at all disabled, but I've been doing this for years just because it's so smart and practical. My family mocks me for it, but they are slobs, so what do they know.
Cutting up hard vegetables like squash, turnips, and even carrots can be difficult, so I tend to buy those frozen. The exception is "baby" carrots that I eat fresh as snacks. They can also be cooked, making them just as easy as frozen. The extra cost is minimal to the lack of wear and tear on my arthritic fingers.
I try to order organic frozen vegetables...and use distilled water for cooking. Costs a few dollars more - but it's more than a few less poisons being put into my sensitive immune system👍🏻
Keeping your home tidy makes you feel better no matter how bad you may feel. Do something everyday and my son's motto is if you don't mess it up, you don't have to clean it up. I think that's good advice.
Jeanie,Your son is right!!! When I was little---my mom would say "whatever you take out--put it right back when finished, and my house always "looks clean" even though the floors need vacuuming and the furniture is dusty!!! But I still don't like to dust in this apartment because I can't shake dust rags outside which I always did in my own home!!! OH WELL...
@@jeanie8831 that's true , clean up after yourself , a cleaned tidy home is nice to come into and sit in , I just need more cupboard space and a few less ornaments etc , a place for everything and everything in its place , easier to keep clean
@@PatAudreyKI never shake my dust cloths. I bought enough to be able to switch out when dirty and wash them with all the other cleaning towels and sponges, in hot water and soap. I was a professional cleaner in another life.
I used to clean my entire house upstairs and downstairs in 3 hours. Now I couldn’t do it in 3 weeks. The one thing I did that helped was I got rid of my heavy self-propelled and bag vacuums. I invested in a Dyson rechargeable. It's simple to empty and lightweight plus no cord makes it so easy. I use Swifters to dust and Swifter Wet to wash the floor. I need to declutter because I know the fewer things to dust the easier. I'm doing it slowly. I'm blessed bc my wonderful husband does all the heavy work and outside work. I once loved gardening and raking but my rheumatoid arthritis and fibro has made those joys out of reach. Still, I’m blessed. Blessings and courage to all those watching this video. I've had to learn to not overdo it. Once, I'd just plow through the fatigue and pain and then I'd be laid up for days. Now, I pay attention to the signals my body is sending me and rest. No guilt. Leave that in the past too. Love to all ❤
Thank you for sharing. I am at the same stage but with damaged spinal cord at my neck and lower back. I enjoy finding adaptive ways to clean and declutter! And I am working on obeying the 15 minute rule. And learning to pay attention to all my body signals. So much to learn, but the only alternative is stagnation and I never want that. Take care and stay safe!
Thank you. I feel your pain. It's hard to slow down as we get older because it's like we're giving in, but pain has a way of saying "slow down". My mind stays young but my body lets me know I'm not as young as I think!! 😊😊
I share my experiences of aging with my grown children, something my mother never did. My daily aches and pains, my anxiety when I forget things, the feelings of anger of not being able to do shores like I used to. I used to be very active, my work,my family, friends. No it’s not the same❤
My family doesn't want to hear about how hard it is. I am almost 90 and live on my own. Every small task is a major undertaking. Even doing dishes (don't have a dishwasher) has to be done a few minutes at a time.
@@huskigirl123 Hi huskigirl, you’re right about it being hard for your family to listen to you. ❤️ It may be because it makes them feel frustrated and helpless to help you. You might try easing into it, speaking of the problems as just something we live with as we get older…make light of it, not heavy and guilt- producing. A little bit of sympathy could go a long way in helping you not to feel so alone. And, it will help prepare them for what’s coming!!😁👍 Keep this in mind…”Gettin’ OLD Ain’t For Wimps!” If you can laugh about it, the burdens will seem lighter😂😂😂 I am almost 79 yo, have lots of health problems, but I refuse to give up….I hope you will, too. Best wishes for getting some emotional, as well as, physical help. We all need it! Our Creator knows what we need and will put people in your path that you need to meet. Bless you and may you find your answers❤️
@@huskigirl123 sister, If you’re still doing dishes at 90, that’s a great accomplishment!! Some 90 years old won’t or can’t get off the couch! Good for you, and if your children don’t want to hear or know about it’s all on them.. hang in there, I hope I’ll be doing my own dishes at 90!
@pjpony1234, Your comment keeps me laughing so hard, I needed that laugh badly!!😂 Thank you!! I am trying to learn up my apartment now day by day and I haven’t collapsed yet because I clean by sections and not force myself to complete every task in one day just because I have a LIST !! Next day comes, I continue again, a day at a time!
You must live in the state where I'm stuck now!😂 I swear if God and all the angels lived here, they'd ignore you! (Anyway, ppl do!) You can't buy help!
Young people, pay attention. You will be old one day and perhaps all alone. Live with less and live below your means and save money. I can barely do anything anymore and dont have ability to declutter. A little at a time but too little to make a dent. Clutter is dangerous. And then we feel guilty because we cant clean. Wish i could wake up and find that my fairy godmother has decluttered and cleaned everything. What joy!
I was only thinking this morning that when I was young all my belongings were simply what I needed, but with age you accumulate so much more stuff, documents, memorabilia, collections/hobby items. It's completely unsustainable. Everything needs to go. I welcome the new year to have a real unclutter. At least 50% must go
Far as documents go ? Except for very important, timeless ones - like the deed to the house and such - I only keep the most current and up to date ones. ALL utility bills, Visa, etc., are shredded at the end of the year and I ONLY keep my tax returns going back 7 years, as is the law. Because of that ? ALL my current bills/documents fit easily in less than a desk drawer, and a tiny, fire proof safe for the most important ones -house deed, wills, etc. The rest ? Old expired insurance premiums - car, house, you name it - and such are shredded as SOON as they expire. I'm thinking that when I'm gone I don't want my executors to have to go through boxes and boxes of irrelevant documents, old bills and such to see 'what is important' ! Yes they've been told /shown where the important stuff is, and they really appreciated it ! :)
There are volunteers who can help you declutter, possibly through a local church or senior agency. You can ask them to check with their current volunteers. I would recommend looking for someone who can help you find your most successful strategies, and follow your priorities, without yelling at you that it all must go. It may be that you can identify and gather small items gradually, yourself, and do the phone calls to know what your local charities are willing to receive (vs Putting them in their dumpster), and have them ready to go. It would be such a simple thing for a volunteer to pop by periodically to shift these things forward. I was doing this about 20+ years ago. If you have a meals on wheels service, they might also easily accommodate you as a volunteer makes rounds in your area. You don't know until you ask!😁
Warning - it's full of obscene language, but "Unf-ck Your Habitat" has good suggestions for people like us. It's the only book on cleaning that has suggestions for people who have handicaps, both mental and physical.
I certainly hope you can incorporate many of these tips into your regimen-they’re definitely useful! Hopefully, they’ll help you navigate your days with chronic pain while still accomplishing what you need to. We’re all just trying to find what works best to lighten the load.
ADHD senior here. Days that i am able to get up and about, I just spin and spin. Seems the older I got the harder is was to focus on what I was cleaning. Pick something up to put away and when I did that I get distracted and do something else. End of day house still messy but I try to stay positive and think of all that I did and got exercise doing it. Lol
@@elizabethreid9448I cleaned professionally for 27 years. Staying focused on the task at hand is a must. I created a work basket with all my cleaning products and tools and would start in one room at a time. I dusted first, starting high and working clockwise since I am left-handed. If you are right-handed, you would find it easier to go counter clockwise. Dusting, then vacuuming, then, if needed, mopping. Bathrooms and kitchens a little different but still staying on task, moving smoothly from one task to the next.
I use a wheelchair. I was a head on a bed for 5 years then I started using a wheel ch air to get around. I found I could do so much from a wheelchai r,. I started by washing a door. I can do so much now my house never looked better. I also cook. I got fitter and then was able to do more. I put on the music and enjoy it. I do use lavender for cleaning. Or burn incense, . I have followed some of the strategies such as small Areas when they Are or may be overwhelming. You can chip away at hoards . The music is my reward, and I get a sense of satisfaction when I’ve done it.
I am 78. I plan my cleaning chores into daily, weekly, monthly, bimonthly, quarterly , half-yearly and yearly slots according to the intensity of cleaning required. This covers my full house in nook and corner. Also I make a list of tasks for the day inside and outside my house and tick them out once completed. This prevents leaving something unattended. Above all after a thorough cleaning I look at the neat place again and again to get an immense inner satisfaction over the work I did. Nothing else gives me such a happiness. I am from India.
Thanks. I just had brain surgery and I am still not able to interpret calendars and clocks. I hope it gets better 😅. I can read them but I don’t know what it means to me. I am 77.
I had a flare up with my back two and a half years ago that has left me crippled over night almost, my knees are prone to giving out and I have very weak hands among other problems so I got a second vacuum for my upstairs and a light one for light clean ups. I have a steamer for doing the floors and one for everything else. For the bathroom I bought a rechargeable brush that can go from handheld to long. I just wish I can find a good toilet brush though I can manage with my current one. I am unable now to carry my garbage because of the snow and ice so I got some help there. In the summer and fall I load the bag on a folding dolly and push it to the kerb. I have a platform dolly to have my grocery delivery loaded on so I can wheel it to the kitchen. I do need to do some serious decluttering which I'm working on. Cooking has become hard as I can't stand up and I am in the process of replacing all my ceramic casseroles etc with silicone as I just can't lift the others. I use mostly an Instant pot which does make my life very much easier and I cook mainly casseroles with at least 4 portions and I freeze two or three portions for the days I just can't cook. I do have a queen bed but I buy King sheets due to a high mattress and a topper. I have a down duvet and the worst thing about this is when I need to change the cover which I dread. I do have to crawl around the bed several times to get it done and on that day, it's the biggest chore (only) I throw the sheets and towels in the washer ready to go in the evening and I make my bed while my coffee is brewing (I need it after) There are plastic pusher things (I got at Amazon) to tuck in the sheet under the mattress which I find useful, they come in pairs so I keep one on each side of the bed. Still wish I could do better though. I suppose I can't complain, I lasted to 80.
You are doing very well from the sound of it! You might find inspiration from another video here : The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning. It details the life of Margareta Magnusson. She is lovely and is a treat to watch. She has 2 books out. She is quite a gem. Happy New Year to you dear!
@@user-qh5ic7hy7p Happy, Healthy New Year to you and yours and I will look up your suggestion. I am really annoyed though about cooking as it was my therapy. I'll have to see if I can start painting again. I guess.
You sound like you are still going strong! I'm 8 years younger but deal with RA, and resulting pain and neuropathy, and physical restrictions. You have to be creative to figure out new ways of doing things. I understand about needing your bed after exertion. I get up in the morning, clean out and disinfect my bedside toilet, check my weight, shower and then dress. After that I have to lie down for a while. Not a lot of stamina. But little by little, I get things done throughout the day. The main thing is, keep going and rest when you need to. I hope I am still going when I am 80!❤❤❤
@@PearlMagnolia Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, I'm far from going strong. I had to give up my truck as I couldn't even get in it and the last time I drove to a very close store, I was afraid I was going to be stranded there. My gardening days were over two years ago though this year was the very end. I had a helper who "cleaned" just the middle of the rooms and only if I wasn't there. I could have done that myself from a chair, I have some papers that my cat likes to lie on, she didn't even move that. I had to buy two vacuums as I can't lug one up and down the stairs, I also needed one to really do a good job since I can't do it often but they are a beast so I just got me a battery one which I resisted as I take a long time doing stuff now and the battery probably won't make it through even the one small room I can usually handle. I am totally. useless in the morning so all I do is peel back my sheet and duvet to the foot of the bed and get dressed and see to my cat, then I need a rest by then the bed is cooled so I make my coffee while I make the bed, then I need another rest. My back has totally flipped on me and ruined my life and I'm a 1000X better than I was two years ago when I couldn't even move and I live alone, no help at all so I still had to do all my cat stuff. I couldn't cook or anything and I lived on coffee for a week till I realized I have emergency rations I could use but I guess the pain did a number on my brain, I guess I figured the emergency I had wasn't serious enough. Sadly I didn't lose any weight which I hoped would result from my "fast". I can still make it to the bathroom and cook simple meals (I used to love cooking) I'm a bit wobbly in the shower so I use a shower chair. I hope I'll not get any worse and I pray God will have mercy on me and take me home before I can't look after myself and my precious cat as I can't even bear the thought of being "jailed". I hate to have people who know nothing about me telling me what to do.
I came up with a routine that is helpful for me. I assigned each room to a day of the week to get cleaned...Monday is the kitchen and so on. The same goes for laundry; since Tuesday is bathroom day, I also wash towels and washrags on Tuesday. I can't clean the house all in one day anymore, so I had to figure out another way to get it done.
I clapped through all of the personal suggestions! When I got a new double mattress, I needed bigger fitted-sheet pockets. When I shopped for new fitted sheets, I got queen size. Yes, they are too wide for my bed, but I don't have to struggle anymore with pulling those sheets over all four corners. They go on and off so easily. My mattress is way too heavy to tuck in the sheet sides. I manage to secure the corners, but I let the sides hang and cover them with my queen duvet!
I stopped using fitted sheets, I just get a bigger flat sheet and tuck it in under the mattress, I can slide my hands under and don't have to lift the mattress.
I hate housework so clean up as I go along! This helps keep the home clean and tidy all the time. I do a deeper clean when I feel like it, usually every 2 weeks. 👍
This might sound nuts, but I got some of those mop socks, or whatever they're called. They are actually helpful. I use them when cleaning the tub, because it's easier when I'm in the tub instead of reaching. They also help when you're mopping, and there's that spot the mop just can't get. And generally when you're sweeping (ok, actually I got a hard floor vacuum. Did that after getting a shedding dog😂). I use my Swiffer a lot! I tried to get rid of it, then I discovered they had their advantages. Definitely helpful for broken glass & puke. But when you don't need to do anything urgently, you can use a microfiber cloth instead of a disposable sweeper cloth, and they make ones for the mop too. I use the Swiffer sweeper with a microfiber cloth to clean mirrors, windows and to dust the wall around the vents. For the tub and shower, I got a scrubber set of cleaning tools for $25ish. There was a brush on a long stick, a scrubber brush, a scrubber sponge thing, and an angle brush. I sprinkle powder on the bottom, brush it a bit & let it soak. To clean the walls (general cleaning, not deep cleaning) I put either a cleaning wipe or a microfiber cloth on the sponge thing. It's so much easier for some reason when there's a handle! After the rest if the bathroom is clean, I scrub the bottom of the tub the rest of the way. And after cleaning the mirror with the Swiffer, I use the same cloth on the floor in the end. Simple tools go a long way! Trying to think of whatever is helpful... I have 3 sets of sheets and store each set in an old pillow case. That way, if I can't get the sheets put away fast enough, I still have an availabile fresh set of sheets on the bed. Fresh sheets have been great! The first time in my life being on top of that. I use reacher grabbers for almost everything, including yardwork. I let my husband be a mess in his own areas (that's just his thing, so I've zoned him😂). I use all the organizing things, but also try to get rid of things I don't use. I do have spare bins in a box in the garage, but I try not to keep too much extra. I tried not having pantry organizers, but it's so much easier to cook having organizers in the pantry. You can find stuff & know how much you have. I know that's money, which is why I avoided it for so long, but it's been so worth it for me. Alternately, I've learned you don't need very much laundry detergent. I have gotten to the point of only covering the bottom of the laundry cup. I use vinegar as fabric softener and a little Oxiclean in the tub. Reduced that cost & cleans better! That's all I could remember 😁 Hope that helps someone! Thin out your belongings, but don't regret what you're doing.
I scrub my shower with the blue dawn dish soap while the conditioner sets in my hair. I use the body scrubbing gloves. The dawn breaks down everything faster than literally anything I've found and it doesn't irritate my lungs.
We should just have gallons of dawn dish soap and clean everything with it. Let's add some essential oils to it and make everything smell better all the time. Shoot with these tips, I could add a little baking soda and vinegar or bleach for a disinfectanting agent. Ya all are fantastic.
Thank you for including the person who has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Some people think that’s not a real illness. It is. Thank you for your comments about celebrating little wins. Yes!
All of these comments are so supportive and inspiring, to know that we are not alone, that the problems are real, not laziness, to hear that others care. Thank you for sharing, each and everyone of you!
I eliminate a lot of unnecessary extra dishes or towels. I would have a 6P set when there was only me because I used to entertain.I no longer entertained as much as I would love to. And I can't keep hanging on to stuff that I'll never use. That's what I called my fantasy Self. You know, the person who had a trade or somebody that used to have a hobby or some sort of activity but no longer can do it. And so they keep tools and equipment around around. Thinking that they will get back into. Doing what they used to do when they were young. So, instead of dreaming of that fantasy you, the one that you think you still are come to realize that you're getting older and you no longer can do a lot of things, so get rid of those hobbies.Get rid of the excessive amount of stuff that just clutter your place and consume so much of your time in space. For the? Last year I have been getting rid of stuff that I just hadn't used in over a year. It's starting to look a little better here.I've got rid of 60% and I'm still working on getting rid of more.I can see the floor I can see the wall.I can see a lot of things where before my coach was always full of stuff. My clothes were always all over the place. Freedom comes with less. Besides you don't want to Be remembered as the Grandpa or the Grandma that all she did or all he did was clean and sort and organize stuff. And then when you die , you've got a ton of unnecessary things set your family doesn't even want. Think of all the stuff that you have been hanging on to for last 5 years. Are you using them? If you were to die in six months what good is any of the stuff that is in front of you right now. Live for today for tomorrow.May not come and forget about the past. Life is short.Do not live with regret

We recently moved out of our large 2 story home as both of us could no longer manage the size and more so the stairs. We moved into a small one story condo. I love it. However, it took so long to move because after 40 yrs in one home you accumulated a lot of things. Our kids didn't want items we thought they "needed" and should have. LOL. We declutter so much we were on a first name bases with Goodwill and other donation centers. We still have boxes of so many small things I need to find a place for. Gets depressing sometimes. Sad we can't move around and do what we once were able to do for ourselves.
Wow so helpful a great way of keeping our home clean ,even with disabilities, everyday hygiene for kitchen and bathroom can be done in a few minutes and sitting down to avoid pain.thankyou Enjoy life and friendships.
I'm back. I thought of a hack. About 15 years ago, I stopped pretending that I did not need paper towels in the bathroom, and installed a paper towel holder on the wall. Now, any visitors don't have to worry about using my towels, and I wipe down the sink and toilet a lot more often.
This is so true! I tried to use less, but I grew up being, well, the family's personal maid😠 Anyway, I had to use the same sponge on the toilet. It really grossed me out & I hated it! Glad for wipes and paper towels! I tried to replace them with microfiber cloths, but I just couldn't do it.
I always thought paper towels were an extravagance, but now I buy lots of paper towels and more cleaning gets done because they're so handy. An extravagance but worth every penny
I also installed a paper towel holder on the inside door of the vanity in each bathroom. I no longer use loads of cleaning cloths to wipe up sinks and taps and also my guests now use paper towels to wipe hands instead of hand towels (P.s using paper towels for wiping hands is more sanitary that using a hand towel that many use).
5 (or 10) item start. When I'm facing chaos, I remove five or ten items at a time and put them away. My ten-item is for dishes piled in the sink! It makes such a difference in my attitude. I go from room to room and do that at least once. I either repeat another time in the day or the next. Sometimes counting the 5 items jump starts my clearing a space. Hope in seeing a little spurs me on to another 5.
Good idea if you never have guests, but if you do have them, where do they sit? I've had dinners where, even with a dining set for 4, a couch, and two armchairs, there wasn't room for everyone. Luckily, the young folks didn't mind grabbing a cushion and sitting on the floor (supper was a simple soup and cornbread). Downsizing is all well and good, but you do have to consider your lifestyle as well.
I've had MS for 20+ years and can't do many of the cleaning chores I did in the past. Thank you this video because it gave me a number ideas of how to taker care of my chores!
Me too, diagnosed in 1999 when I was 32. I have the absolute best husband who takes excellent care of me, I am. Leased beyond measure. I’m wishing you more better days.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am elderly and disabled on my own to maintain my space. I have already downsized considerably. I really appreciate the tips.
My mother always said it's easier to clean a clean house than a dirty house. Good advice. Be careful with steam cleaners! They will separate the layers of older vinyl flooring, completely ruining it. Elderly people are always told to eliminate area rugs to prevent tripping and falls. I only use vinegar, baking soda, peroxide and dawn dish soap. This eliminates storing and carrying large amounts of commercial, overpriced products.
I use a flat sheet under my duvet between it and my skin so when I change my bed the duvet cover is clean and I just then wash flat sheet, fitted sheet and pillowcases .This makes life alot easier especially if you have shoulder problems as really reduces the frequency of changing the duvet cover.
Not so easy though when circumstances mean tidying cleaning is not a priority. My house was lovely and tidy but when my husband was so ill I was caring for him 24/7 and things began to slide. Now I am disabled and would love to have someone to clean for me but I just can't afford it.
Mine too I’ve just invested in a strong wrap that helps herniated discs , I use it when needed , although advised against getting it from a physiotherapist saying it would make my back weaker, frankly I ignored that advice but I do not wear it permanently just when needed
I like this video thank you for this. I suffer from chronic pains a lower back injury from working. I also have Fibromyalgia. Insomnia, and all the many symptoms that Fibromyalgia give. It is so frustrating and hard to do simple tasks. I clean every day and it’s hard not to not do it I like the way you said to break the days up to clean each part of the house. ❤👍🏾
I'm so sorry for your many health issues. For my insomnia, I asked my Dr for sleeping pills. Every night, I thank God for their invention! Peace to you 🙂
@ Good morning thank you for your kind words. I too take tablets two every night to relax me and it is suppose to let me get a good nights sleep. But I am up looking at the clock I have my tv on in my bedroom. It does help I know I should really be sleeping but I am not! Insomnia has been in my life from the time I was diagnosed with this invisible illness I had no idea I had a lower back injury from work is all I was complaining about I had to stop working because I could not walk at all for three months. I still have issues with standing for long periods bending. Walk far I just cannot do those things many people take for granted. It was a big shock to find out the woman I once was busy woman hardworking woman. Had to slow right down. And unable to function unable to work which i enjoyed doing. Have a lovely weekend ❤️
@@valeriep.8364 , Next time, I'm going to buy a self storage center and build a house attached to it. The first ten, maybe twenty units will be all for me, then I can rent out any left over. I bought a bunch of plastic boxes to store things in, and now I don't have any place to put the boxes.
I do it a bit differently, I make a pile of things that need to go to the other end of the house, then take them all at once. Economy of motion I call it.😊
I have chronic pain from Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis, Arthritis.. walking from room to room tires me out and creates more pain.. there are some good ideas in this video which I will definitely do. Thankyou for sharing. 😊
If you are unfortunate enough to end up in the hospital and when goibgvhome the social worker will examine the home . They will have all rugs removed. Fall risk.
I completely agree, I used to be an occupational therapist and that was one of the first things I would do when meeting new patients that had falls. They are a major danger for seniors.
Thank you! The biggest help for me living alone & well over 70 with many pains, disabilities, etc., is to plan to purchase handheld vac (dust buster), furniture sliders, & washable cleaning pads for Swiffer's (will save me lots of money too!) in the next couple days, and breaking my housework load down into chunks i really love! God bless you!
I'm disabled and have chronic pain & fatigue. When I was around 9-14 yrs old (I can't remember my exact age) our next door neighbor paid me to dust her house. She was extremely picky and I had to vacuum her wood end tables before I could even dust them with a cloth. When I was done she would pour us some tea and visit. I felt so grown up having tea with her after cleaning. If you know of someone young who lives next door or on your street or even your grandchild, you could always stop by their house and ask the parents if their kid might want to earn some money by helping you do a few things around your home that you can no longer do. You don't pay kids like you would for an adult and/or professional to clean your home. It really is great learning experience for kids and gives them a little spending money. One thing I learned was I would not be vacuuming the wood on my furniture when I was grown😂 and I never did. Some senior centers have people that can help also.
@@sjbutler2330 By the time we are old or disabled there’s not often a man of the house. They are long gone one way or another many of them. And that’s ok because you only need to worry about your needs and not theirs, get a pet if you’re lonely, they are better companions than many men and they won’t think you’re their slave, unless you choose a cat… maybe.🤣
A great idea that i learned many years ago from a friend who had been pregnant 6 times. Old towels and t shirts and rags. You can push around the floor in places where a mop won't go. Sitting in a chair using feet.
God was kind to me, I recovered from this: I injured my back, and for three or four days anything I dropped had to stay on the floor. After I dropped a fork, I was VERY careful, LOL!
This is so informative.. I’m guilty of all the obstacles you mentioned.. I’m over 75 and completely overwhelmed by all the things that need my attention… I will try to incorporate the routines you demonstrated in this video…I often tell my daughter that by the time I get my house running smoothly, I’ll drop dead the next day…. lol
I fractured my back and ruptured some discs. Prior, I had a serious hip injury. I have used an office chair to wheel around for cleaning tasks. I have reaching sticks in every room so I don't have to bend. I have also found it very helpful to have a little three tier craft cart on wheels. I use it to carry items from place to place. For example, clearing dishes from the dining area to the kitchen. Any items that are too heavy, or so numerous that I would have to make several trips, I load onto my little cart and roll them to where they belong.
I don’t understand, karenbaldwin. I tried that office chair and fell out of it. 😂 Thankfully, wasn’t hurt too badly. Do you use some kind of seat belt?
I used to use my Mom's walking chair to haul in the groceries, even tho' I was in my 50's. I bought a cart that I use now, great to use to make one trip from the car to the house.
I can injure my back easily. So if i need to do something stressful like vacuuming the carpet, i break it up i nto segments. I work for 15 minutes tnen rest for 15 minutes. Also i use disposable swiffer sheets after sweeping up top dirt firstly. House cleaning has taken a whole new aspect for me since growing older. Thanks for video.
My mother (who died 30 years ago) used to be a cleaning freak & ironed everything in sight, it was almost like her life’s work - I didn’t inherit her cleaning gene!! Her cousin, who passed in 1998, used to say “the dust will still be here when I’m gone”! As a 60 something with some back & knee issues I’ve adopted the same mantra!
@@16EllessWhen you take your T-shirts out of the washer, instead of putting them in the dryer, lay them out on a towel on your bed smoothing them with your hands. When they’re dry they look like they’ve been ironed.
Great video, I bought 2 double air fryers so I dont have to bend to remove things from the oven and having 4 drawers in the air fryers allows me to cook up to 4 things at once. I use disposable liners to keep them clean and minimize washing up. I also use a slow cooker, just put everything and leave it to cook itself. Lots of spares to put in the fridge or freeze for more meals.
thank you for your lovely message. I had meant to mention that there are disposable liners for slow cookers, but I doubt that they would appeal to us golden oldies. I have the same problem with counter space too, take care.
Respected brother! Please accept my deepest gratitude for uploading such an informative, excellent, Wonderful video for seniors! May God be with you always!Amen
Since I don't really like housework and I mostly do it by not messing the house up, my housekeeping got better this year when I had to start taking a medicine once a week and then stay on my feet or upright for 30 to 45 minutes. So now I plan what household tasks to do during that period each Sunday and my house looks a lot better!
❤ the cleaning with essential oils..idea..I can see that it's going to be very useful for me and so many others with stress / chronic pain sufferers.. What a blessing essential oils.. makes life a little more bearable..TY ☺️🕊️🙏
Lots of good advice - however, rugs are a tripping hazzard, especially if your disabled! I wouldn't bother with rugs and small carpets! When asking for help - our government 'helpers' will only do the jobs that you can do yourself using these techniques! I had a head injury at the beginning of this year and they sent me people who were lazy and sloppy so I had to cancel my unhelp! The Holy spirit showed me many of the techniques in your video! Then seeing your video has shown me I was doing the right things all along taught by the Holy Spirit! It has helped my anxiety levels as well!
This was a good video, I'm sure many people will find it helpful. Some of the things mentioned are things I've been doing for a while now. My disability involves my feet and legs. I have a vascular disease and Lymphedema, so being on my feet too much (or sitting with my feet on the floor) causes excessive swelling. I've had days when the fluid retention in my legs will be 10-15 lbs in a 24hr period. 😢 I use a rolling office chair and 'walk' my feet to move it. I can vacuum and dust from that position. I have wood floors in most of my house, so I trying to run through from the front to the back door once a week mopping. Usually that will be the only housework I do that day. My favorite little trick is using a timer!! I set my timer for 1 hour, then I start doing whatever I need to do that day. When the timer goes off I wrap it up and call myself done! Occasionally, I feel like continuing a little longer but it's up to me! Lol I'm curious what everyone's favorite and least favorite chore is! I think my least favorite would be dusting. Probably because it stirs up my allergies! My favorite, without a doubt is laundry!!! Especially folding the clothes! I enjoy it so much that I have done other people's laundry for them.😊 I live alone so I don't have too much, but I'll find something to wash at least 1 load every day! Curtains, throw rugs, bedding, etc. To me it's such a productive and satisfying feeling. 😊
It's wonderful to hear you've found ways to make things work for you! I love that you've made laundry your favorite chore! BTW I find it so satisfying too. 😁 Keep going you've got this.
Thank you so much for this video, i have been feeling so overwhelmed by the smallest of tasks lately. Its really wearing on me mentally too, because my house has always been super clean since childhood and i hate that it isnt now. I will try some of these ideas, thank you. ❤
I thank everyone who has given their helpful suggestions. I’m fairly new to the problem and no longer can clean my home or do so many of the basics in self care. I was known by family members as being ocd in cleanliness. Now my home truly is filthy bc I struggle so hard with the simplest of tasks. Today was Christmas dinner with family. Just the effort it took physically to get myself ready and presentable increased my pain and chronic fatigue to a nearly unbearable level. Made it to dinner and I’ve been paying for it dearly since! I have scoliosis, arthritis, fibromyalgia etc etc etc..! Last year I lost the use of my hands. No longer could I squeeze twist or hold anything. Good grief what a nightmare. My income is very small and buying devices for helping isn’t in my budget. Neither is home help. The past two years have been my worst so far. Rapidly increasing in my physical decline. So please know that I am beyond grateful for anyone offering suggestions that might help. And know that I will be praying for all of you to. 🙏❤️
I will be praying for you as well. 🙏🏻❤️🎄 Have you tried researching for agencies that provide assistance for low-income people? It would be very worthwhile to check this out. I found an agency that has volunteers to help with house cleaning, shopping, driving me to appointments, etc. God Bless you and Happy New Year!
Something I have done for a couple of years, to clean my bathtub/shower, is use a broom. I just get a cheep broom at dollar tree. Spray area with cleanser, let it sit for a bit, then spay cleanser on the broom. The long handle helps not to have to lean over. Rinse with shower head , and rinse broom, let dry and its ready for next time.
I love all these beautiful people in my age group, 49+, who stay positive and proactive throughout their aging journey. Staying on top of our tasks keeps us active and healthy; expecting others to do our tasks for us because we are "old" and "frail" in our age only leaves us weak and dependent. Of course, if anyone has an illness and disability needs help, there is no shame in that, but give something back, too, if only gratitude and something we can give or do. I think we don't lose joy, playfulness, and energy because we "get old," but we "get old" because we lose those things. No matter our age, we all have something to give and something to learn. My best to you all in 2025, loves! 🥰💕
I’m just in my 50’s but have mobility issues and anxiety attacks. I use a wand style scrubber for the shower and tub. I have invested in a combination type of floor cleaner that mops and vacuums simultaneously. My full size washer is outside and that’s at least 3 trips to wash, rinse and hang or dry. So I have a small washer in my bathroom now so I can do my clothes and put on hangers to dry inside. The bigger items go outside. I also invested in a countertop dishwasher. Standing at the sink has caused me pain all of my life. Now I only have to scrub cookware instead of a sink full of dishes. Another thing I have done is put soft plastic tablecloth material over my open shelves to keep them practically dust free. Large room size heavy plastic tarp can also be used to cover the carpet it’s easy to clean especially with pets, spills or incontinence . It’s better than those plastic runners because you won’t have the edge to trip over. Plus your carpet will retain its color longer.
I'm 78 years old and doing just about everything mentioned in this video, also given my children what ever they want, and what they don't, donate to goodwill, this way my children don't have to go through the hasel of decluttering my house.
I've been using a stool to sit on to dust & vacuum. Huge difference and it's not hard to move for the present. I have many knicknacks, miniatures, framed photos, and vintage items I love and won't part with. I have a "rotation" bin and I only put a few items out at a time so they're very easy to dust and move to clean. I get to enjoy everything just not all at once!
Great video I am busy with my hand held vacuum which is about the 8th i have as I use to spot clean every day then once a week use my light vacuum cleaner and about every 8 weeks use the big brother vacuum for missed corners and skirting boards. My back breaks making the bed so I cover up every day once a week clean sheet and pillow cases every 2nd week change the duvet as the 2 dogs sleep on the bed. I put a 3/4 bed sheet on at night to save the duvet from the dogs. Recent rain cleaned my windows. Good luck everyone as I don't feel so isolated as a senior trying to keep all together so what is there is a spot of dust as it has to wait it's turn to be cleaned

Many good ideas in this video. Also, narrated as though by an actual human who understands punctuation, pronunciation, and grammar. However, I have to say that floor mats are a tripping hasard. I have to put one at the front door, but that's it.
Let go of as much as you can! Every item you release is a weight lifted-a piece of freedom gained. It’s one less thing to clean, dust, wash, or fold, and one step closer to a simpler, lighter, and more peaceful life
Be real, whatever is already in your home, there is not much you can eliminate when you are old, tired, in pain, sick, and especially if you are alone. If you cannot get people to help, no heck can help you. Thanks for the tips.
Also setting up your coffeemaker just before you eat supper for morning! In the morning hit the button then go wash up while its brewing, set out your cup as well! Its also considerate while guests are sleeping if your an early riser!😊
My husband sets up the coffee maker the night before and we tell our guests, “Whoever gets up first, push the on switch.” If the guest is the early bird, they don’t have to root around for anything!🙌🏻
I switched to instant coffee because it was easier to just make a cup. I put all kinds of things in it so what's the difference? Chocolate protein powder, mushroom powder, etc

@goldenyears101 thank you, I have seen too many friends whom passed away to see how their families just throw everything into the trash. All things we value are not valued by relatives. I have a clear house that I zoom through with my Dyson. My husband takes a cloth and wipes down all my minimalist shelves etc. makes life much easier.
I'm doing just that, if I had do it all over again , Especially in this day and age, I would not buy material items. Only eatable souvenirs, No nick nacks, take a picture of item, if I really would like to have. We don't need these uncertainty items, and now hard to give to off springs and today they don't want our stuff, we may inherited. I would save instead, would be more comfortable today and be safer without the stuff. I can't take it with me, so I'm donating to community for intellectual and development disabilities. That have a trift building they open to earn extra money towards their program. Thanks you for the encouragment .
I'm only 59 and worked 60hr a week keep a clean house keep the yard work up and had a garden and put up a lot of my own food. Not anymore 😢 this past year has been the hardest of my life. Disabled and no friends because I was working all the time. Yes I have a son and daughter inlaw and two grandchildren but live far away. You’re too young to give up! Find something that interests you enough to distract your mind from negative thoughts or feelings, anything is ok. I have been there, and I am at peace with myself and my situation after struggling for a while. I hope you can hang in there. Best wishes. That’s my favorite WWII picture 😁🇺🇸🇺🇸
Who are they kidding!!!! I'm 88! I am agile for my age--I'm able to walk without any support! The reason I don't clean my house is because "I JUST DON"T FEEL LIKE IT". I have air cleaners and I still have dust! Dust never goes away! Vacuuming the carpeting is nice but not easy! Making the bed is not difficult--but it kills my back! So I don't need any more objects to clean with!!!!
I admire your attitude. I don't clean my house when I don't feel like it either. That is why it looks like a bomb has gone off. I have a mess in every room. You must have a low level of clutter to make this work. I know I have too much stuff. I need to declutter to make it work.
It's good to have contrary opinions here also for a dose of reality. And if you make your bed too soon after getting up, the tiny bit of moisture generated during sleep will help the dust mites and ( I hope not but it happens) bedbugs make it through the day. YOu should leave the covers off for an hour for it to dry. Only a tiny bit of moisture most nights but that is all they need to thrive. And then cause you problems. Some days I just sort of gently fold the comforter and sheet at the foot of the bed and call it done.
@@PatAudreyK My problem too, I've lived in this house for almost 18 years and I have junk I never unpacked. I will be doing a huge dump run if I last till spring (Not me but I have someone who does that) I am in the process of clearing out my closets which are about to explode from excess.
@@1234cheerful I can't stand an unmade bed so I pull back the covers and since it takes me a while to get dressed after that the bed is dry and ready to be made. I just pull the covers back up and put the pillows at the top and a blanket at the bottom of the bed for my cat.
Great video, I'm not yet senior or disabled, but I just am overwhelmed with a large house with 7 dogs. i like the suggestion, to break down areas per week, I should be able to do that!
@@sjbutler2330 I'm not getting rid of my dogs, a schedule will help and I need to be more disciplined about it. Eventually, the dogs will pass on, they will not be replaced.
When washing the pots, I put on a pair of body exfoliation gloves that I keep for this. It makes washing up so much easier. I also use a teacloth in each hand to dry them.
Every night, I make sure all my dishes are washed and if they’re not put up there in the drain to be put up the next morning, the counters are clean and wiped off. I don’t have a lot of stuff on my counters. I do not like clutter in my living room before I go to bed at night I make sure everything is picked up and in its proper place if it has been moved that way, I don’t have to wake up in the morning and run around the living room and put things where they’re supposed to be. And on days when I feel like it, I might clean the my bedroom my bathroom. and then the next day I will clean the guest bathroom in the floor, but I only clean when I feel I have the energy to do small things. I have that problem so I can’t do every room every day but small things like picking up things that are out of place and putting them in place it will make your room feel clean when you know it’s in the proper place. Even though you might not dust every day, don’t worry about that dust on the day. She feel like dusty and if someone comes in the house I always tell him if you see a dust bunny they don’t bite. They just fly. I tried to make my kitchen in my living room. Look picked up and neat every day and if I can’t, I can’t. I’ll look at life one day at a time, and that’s how I look at cleaning one day at a time.
Apart from the toilet and bathroom etc.which I do everyday, I do one room a day in rotation. Monday kitchen, Tuesday, dining room, Wednesday lounge, Thursday, hall stairs landing, Friday bedroom, Saturday and Sunday anything that jumps out at me.
I'm not senior but have bouts of arthritis and have some arthrosis. This is excellent! Will try many of these tips! One I was surprised was the steamer. It really gets out grout? Who knew!
Maintaining yourself can be more difficult when you're older too. I've had to stop blow-drying my hair because of arthritis pain and muscle aches. I now wash my hair in the shower right before going to bed and use some wonderful pillowcases that absorb water and dry your hair as you sleep.
To everyone who reads this, though we’re strangers and may never cross paths, I want you to know that I genuinely wish you all the best that life has to offer. May you find strength in tough times, joy in the little things, and the courage to pursue what truly matters to you. Get rid of as much stuff as possible! Remember every item that goes out the door and never returns is an item that you'll never have to clean, dust, launder, fold or tidy up again.
Such a great suggestion, dont buy in the first place something you dont have room for!
I love a house that's been edited! It's true that less is more! When there's too much stuff, it feels claustrophobic, and is NEVER totally clean. The end result is depressing, dusty, and dated.
This is the most important tip for anyone! We don't need 75% of the stuff we buy and only Amazon is benefitting!🤪
Somehow I could not get this through my skull in my 30s, 40s, 50s. These are great tips!
I throw a wet cloth on the floor and use a stick (or any long object), and use that wipe back of toilet floor, along the base. Best I can do.
@lenoregorman4688 Good idea. I found on Amazon a Fuller Brush toilet mop w a self wringer. Going to bring in a chair and see what I can do with that. 😃
@@debbiechadwick861 I LOVE those self ringer mops! just the best.
If your budget allows, consider replacing your standard toilet with a sleek modern style with NO exterior contours. Then it can be cleaned with one of those things meant to clean the inside of your windshield. You can even sit on a chair while you do it. I LOVE mine!
@nancyrukavena6992 i would like that.
May God bless you
Great idea!! Thank you!!
Thank you.
That is such a smart trick. Thank you for sharing!
Bless you for saying this about 1 sided bed making. I am not at all disabled, but I've been doing this for years just because it's so smart and practical. My family mocks me for it, but they are slobs, so what do they know.
Great idea, it’s how nurses make beds.. easier and efficient xx
Here’s a tip, use frozen vegetables. A boon if you have arthritic hands, reducing trimming and peeling, plus less waste!
Easier to carry groceries in too. Less waste.
Dehydrated or freeze dried vegetables also are a big help.
I try to order organic frozen vegetables...and use distilled water for cooking. Costs a few dollars more - but it's more than a few less poisons being put into my sensitive immune system👍🏻
I've begun using dehydrated veggies, not flakes, actual dried veg.. works great in soups and stews. No standing either!
Keeping your home tidy makes you feel better no matter how bad you may feel. Do something everyday and my son's motto is if you don't mess it up, you don't have to clean it up. I think that's good advice.
Such a great way to approach things.

At least 50% must go
One small bag out every day,you can do it❤❤
Far as documents go ?

I’m not a a senior, but a lot these tips are extremely helpful for someone with ADHD!❤
I'm both. Well I'm only in my mid 60s but Im a chronic pain sufferer. I can't wait till I have the time to watch this. ❤
What a great reward! Thanks for sharing 😌

Many good suggestions. This senior of 78 years is very grateful. Thank you.
You're welcome! 😊
Yes, I enjoyed the video but those homes were super tidy unlike my chaotic one!
Hello there! Great advice. Thanks 😊
Thanks. I just had brain surgery and I am still not able to interpret calendars and clocks. I hope it gets better 😅. I can read them but I don’t know what it means to me.
I am 77.
Yes I agree, the satisfaction of that clean spot for awhile at least.
I think you are amazing. Be proud of yourself. Happy Christmas 🎄✝✝❤
My method, too. On days when the pain is too much, skip that room; it will get done next time.
@@gypzs9 My thoughts exactly.
This is the cleaning manual for elderly people. TFS ! 👍
That is such a clever and practical solution! I’m glad you found a way to make it easier for yourself!
Me too, i always buy fitted sheets one side up, they just keep on the mattress!
My sheets fit fine, problem is my husband strips them off in his sleep every night!
I stopped using fitted sheets, I just get a bigger flat sheet and tuck it in under the mattress, I can slide my hands under and don't have to lift the mattress.
Thanks for sharing, a wonderful idea ❤❤❤❤
I'm going to look for the shower scrubbing brush set, I can no longer bend to clean the shower tray. Thankyou!
Thank you so much for all your tips! I never thought to use vinegar as the fabric softener.
@@donnasmith275 For sure! Just sharing what others shared with me 😊 Works better anyway.

Thank you so much 🙂
I tried to replace them with microfiber cloths, but I just couldn't do it.
please dont dispose of paper towels down the toilet, the paper is too think and wont break down.
@@Jan-q2b The paper is too thick.
I do that too!
Me, too!
This is an excellent suggestion. I'll try implementing it. Thank you for sharing!
Got rid of the sofa, got two Lazyboy recliners. Decluttered much unwanted items not being used, incl closets and garage.
Decluttering makes everything feel so much lighter.
Bravo!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am elderly and disabled on my own to maintain my space. I have already downsized considerably. I really appreciate the tips.
I’m happy to help make things a bit easier.
Great tips! Makes life easier for aching joints and painful backs & knees
I use a flat sheet under my duvet between it and my skin so when I change my bed the duvet cover is clean and I just then wash flat sheet, fitted sheet and pillowcases .This makes life alot easier especially if you have shoulder problems as really reduces the frequency of changing the duvet cover.
Great tip!

I lived with a lady for 3 years and she taught me A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERY THING IN IT'S PLACE .. so easy to keep a tidy house ...
Not so easy though when circumstances mean tidying cleaning is not a priority. My house was lovely and tidy but when my husband was so ill I was caring for him 24/7 and things began to slide. Now I am disabled and would love to have someone to clean for me but I just can't afford it.

Another tip I try to use is one touch. Don’t pick up something and then just set it aside. Put it away. Just handling it once.
See, that leads to my problem of procrastination. If I can't do it all at once, I'll wait until I can (never).
This is where it all falls apart for me. Nothing has a place. I don't know how to accomplish this.

I bought a bunch of plastic boxes to store things in, and now I don't have any place to put the boxes.
I make piles & then only one trip to put away.
I do it a bit differently, I make a pile of things that need to go to the other end of the house, then take them all at once. Economy of motion I call it.😊

You can do it!
Week one... Let the man of the house clean 1\2 of the time!!!
If there is none?
@@sjbutler2330 By the time we are old or disabled there’s not often a man of the house. They are long gone one way or another many of them. And that’s ok because you only need to worry about your needs and not theirs, get a pet if you’re lonely, they are better companions than many men and they won’t think you’re their slave, unless you choose a cat… maybe.🤣
If he is why it needs cleaning?
I'm speaking to households where a man is present. They are just as responsible to help with the cleaning of your home!
I've always managed to find husbands who think the woman should clean😢. Probably why I'm single now.😅
A great idea that i learned many years ago from a friend who had been pregnant 6 times. Old towels and t shirts and rags. You can push around the floor in places where a mop won't go. Sitting in a chair using feet.
You can also use a hand grabber tool as well.
God was kind to me, I recovered from this: I injured my back, and for three or four days anything I dropped had to stay on the floor. After I dropped a fork, I was VERY careful, LOL!
This is so informative.. I’m guilty of all the obstacles you mentioned.. I’m over 75 and completely overwhelmed by all the things that need my attention… I will try to incorporate the routines you demonstrated in this video…I often tell my daughter that by the time I get my house running smoothly, I’ll drop dead the next day…. lol
I know the feeling! Hopefully, you'll find a rhythm that works for you.
That’s so clever! I bet that little cart makes a huge difference.
@@goldenyears101 It really does. I can load it up instead of making 10 trips from room to room. And it takes the weight of items I just can't carry.
I used to use my Mom's walking chair to haul in the groceries, even tho' I was in my 50's. I bought a cart that I use now, great to use to make one trip from the car to the house.

Great video, I bought 2 double air fryers so I dont have to bend to remove things from the oven and having 4 drawers in the air fryers allows me to cook up to 4 things at once. Amen. Thank you! That's the goal and I'm glad it was helpful!
Respected Brother I'm enormously grateful to you for replying to my comment
@@uzmaijaz7821 That's wonderful to hear! May God bless you and thank for sharing your thoughts.
Amen !Stay blessed
Since I don't really like housework and I mostly do it by not messing the house up, my housekeeping got better this year when I had to start taking a medicine once a week and then stay on my feet or upright for 30 to 45 minutes. So now I plan what household tasks to do during that period each Sunday and my house looks a lot better!
This video has some of the best practical tips I have seen. It was very informative.
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
Extremely well said😊I already do several of these things but took note of several to incorporate into my routines😊thank you!!! Blessings sent your way
That’s wonderful! I’m glad the video was helpful. 😊
Bought a shop chair (from auto supply store) that scoots around and has variable height. Was running out of bend overs ! Invaluable .
Brilliant ❤
I have the same Thing. A lifesaver and sturdier.
Have you tried researching for agencies that provide assistance for low-income people?
It would be very worthwhile to check this out.
I found an agency that has volunteers to help with house cleaning, shopping, driving me to appointments, etc.
God Bless you and Happy New Year!
Yes, I did home health care. The agency I worked for also had home health aides that did light cleaning. Costs were according to your income.
I sweep every day and mop once a week. My bathroom is cleaned daily. I spring clean every year and I like doing it.
I wonder, do you hv any limitations?
Today is the youngest we'll ever be, and the oldest we've ever been 😮
I’ll drink to that!
One handed cleaning. I have become ambidextous when scrubbing saucepans and wiping down surfaces. I keep swapping hands, which reduces muscle cramps.
I'm 78 years old and doing just about everything mentioned in this video, also given my children what ever they want, and what they don't, donate to goodwill, this way my children don't have to go through the hasel of decluttering my house.
Thank you. I have incorporated most of these tips. On days that I just cannot keep to my schedule, I rest and don't feel guilty.
It’s good to give yourself a break when you need it.
Excellent advice. If I bring something into my home something else leaves.
Thanks so much!!! Clean home, clear mind. I did enjoyed watching your video
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
One thing that helps me is reading the comments here and not feeling alone in not being able to clean my house in one go.
I got a set of cheap microfiber cleaning cloths for dusting, cleaning the bathrooms and mirror, and even tucking onto a swifter mop.
I bought 5" risers under the legs of my bed and couch. My car is higher also. Yes, I'm tall, so this saves my knees!
I need to get these!
I'm glad you found the video helpful and that you're finding your own ways to keep your home clean and comfortable!
Absolutely loved this video! The content was so well-made and engaging. Huge thanks to everyone who takes a moment to see this comment , you're awesome! Let's keep supporting amazing creators like this. 🎉💖 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖
Many good ideas in this video. Also, narrated as though by an actual human who understands punctuation, pronunciation, and grammar. However, I have to say that floor mats are a tripping hasard. I have to put one at the front door, but that's it.
Extremely helpful video. As a senior, I took note of the relevant hacks that I can apply in my context. 👍🥰💯👏👐
I’m happy you found it helpful!
I have a programmable coffee pot, so I make it the night before.
I switched to instant coffee because it was easier to just make a cup. I put all kinds of things in it so what's the difference? Chocolate protein powder, mushroom powder, etc
You people still have overnight guests? Since the COVID debacle, I don’t want anybody in my house, especially overnight!
Anytime anyone asks what you want for your BD or a holiday say help decluttering. Take what you want. Let your family take a memento every time they visit. Easy peasy.
I have become a minimalist in my home now. Less clutter and so much better to keep up cleaning
Love that!
I'm at the point I'm asking God to take me home everyday all day
You’re too young to give up!
So many of these tips would have been very useful when I was working. they will still work wonders for me now.
Perfect!
Who are they kidding!!!! I'm 88! I am agile for my age--I'm able to walk without any support! The reason I don't clean my house is because "I JUST DON"T FEEL LIKE IT". I have air cleaners and I still have dust! Dust never goes away! Vacuuming the carpeting
is nice but not easy!
@@thatswhatisaid8908 sorry if a gave a false impression. Talk about clutter!!! I took all my downsizing with me
It's good to have contrary opinions here also for a dose of reality.
And you love them ALL and they love you back! But still shed.....
Reduce the number of dogs! Less work!
@@sjbutler2330 I'm not getting rid of my dogs, a schedule will help and I need to be more disciplined about it. Eventually, the dogs will pass on, they will not be replaced.
I do a room a month. Do a little extra for chosen room. By end of month, clean and decluttered. Not so overwhelming.
I have a playlist called, ‘Cleaning Help, Full of 💙’, and this is a perfect entry. Thank you.
Who knew!
It doesn’t, necessarily.
Maintaining yourself can be more difficult when you're older too. I've had to stop blow-drying my hair because of arthritis pain and muscle aches. I now wash my hair in the shower right before going to bed and use some wonderful pillowcases that absorb water and dry your hair as you sleep.
