- Sadly GOODWOOD 2023 was cancelled so in the morning we got chance to take a walk round the show and see what damage has already been done and find out the real reason it was cancelled

It is a shame that @Goodwood road & racing /His Grace, or TV presenters did not show us these scenes on the official live stream. As a ticket holder for Saturday I was OK with the decision to cancel but frustrated with the total lack of media on the official channel. I genuinely feel that showing the situation and a few words from organisers would have been the correct thing to do. THANKS for posting this Mark. Kudos.❤
Why would they live stream winds? Just to prove they're not lying.
Was out motorcycle shopping today and the winds were crazy strong. Well done Mark for covering this as i don't think many will bother.

Great video Mark, you put it into perspective on why it was cancelled, Goodwood is a world class event and they wouldn't have cancelled unless it was really necessary . Hope the cars are OK.🤞🤞
Thanks Mark for making this video. I would to hate to think how much the overall value off cars are at Goodwood festival of speed. And with so many tents and temporary structures that could easily blow away.
That was a really good video! We’re on the campsite right now and it’s still really windy. Having previously had a stand at the FoS, I can appreciate how the decision to close has had a huge impact to not just the traders, but also the contributors like yourself and the whole FoS team. Todays closure must amount to millions in lost revenue. 😢
100% it’s a massive shame however as you know no amount of money or inconvenience is worth someone’s health if something did go wrong
I agree, it was absolutely the right call by Goodwood.
Obviously the “Ken Block moment” never happened today. Have the organisers mentioned to you about moving this to Sunday as it’s not currently showing on the timetable, and yet there’s another Jeff Beck tribute scheduled? 🤷🏻♂️
@MarkMcCann64 ever heard of the precautionary principle, Mark? It's what Tony Blair employed when proposing the invasion of Iraq on the basis of the existence of weapons of mass destruction. It turned out that there weren't any. The UK met Office have much invested in the catastrophic climate change narrative and are pushing out extreme weather warnings as often as they can.
My question is straightforward. With hindsight, should this have happened, or should the event have continued?
Great video mate been there the last 2 days and good to see the massive amount of work they have had to put in to keep everything safe.

Honestly the worst thing about GW is the cost of food and drink, same as all stuff like this. Just traders taking the piss.
Even the trade stands are overpriced tbf too, shame really.
@@tehwabbbit I imagine GW charge an outrageous sum of money to be a vendor or to have a Trade stand at the FoS.. So prices are probably more expensive to offset the cost it took to secure the position of being the vendor.

If you want something often easier to take note of the seller and buy it from them online or something!
thankyou for your coverage of the fos i use to work there in 98 and know how much preparation goes into this event sorry for all those that only had saturday tickets
The prep that goes into FOS is amazing you can feel how well run the event is when you’re there, sadly we can’t fully predict weather
I was there Thursday and due to go back Saturday. We were gutted for us, the organisers, the traders, the drivers. Everyone involved has lost money from trading or cancelled hotels. Such a shame.
I love how that guy barely reacts to the vans door blown shut violently just narrowly missing his elbow 😂.
My thoughts go out, to all that missed today , what a brilliant video no one else bothered to do & explain 🙏🏼
The wind was so bad in Chichester today, a few of my plastic garden chairs got blown over, such devastation, but I will rebuild.

@@latbeast I'm sure you realise it takes a LOT of money to keep that estate running throughout the year, much like places such as Blenheim Palace, without income from events like this the places would quickly become unkempt and unsuitable for use. Look how many thousands of manor houses and historic buildings that have fallen into disrepair over the last 30 years. Still, I don't feel like ANYWHERE should be charging SEVEN QUID for an ice cream.

Really good of you to spare a thought for the traders there and explain the effect on them this closure today will have. I spent 17 years trading music festivals in and around the UK, the general public have little to no clue of how it all works...... It was the right call by Goodwood though.

So... Sunday has arrived.
How bad was the wind, and was it really necessary to spend all that time and money to remove everything?
This may well be a great example of issues that will arise because of the Met office's attitude to bigging up any weather that is even remotely abnormal.
The simple question is... was this necessary ?

I’m hoping there is no damage over night. The wind has definitely picked up over the last few hours. It’s odd seeing the place like that empty. I was there yesterday so going from packed to empty is strange. It would be interesting to see the mornings outcome and hope that beemer is still on top of the M stand 😊
Great to see inside FOS today. I got cancelled too, 2 hotel nights, travel and tickets but fully agree with the decision. Hopefully next year I can get my FOS experience

Excellent watch. My first time there .. 1994 or 1995 .. it was so wet on the Saturday, i subscribed to Classic & Sportscar just to get one of their golf umbrellas. Was a mega wash-out.
Hello mate, I was marshalling on the event. To be fair it was fair point for the organisers to cancel saturday, but surely there could have been something done (not sure though what), we do marshal and camp in far worse conditions and still crack on

Thanks for making this video! Absolutely gutted today was cancelled as only had Saturday tickets. Glad we found out before making the drive from Leicester though at 3am. Good to see the extent of their precautions though. Hope everyone's motors are good in the morning. Guess I'll spend my refund on another track day instead 😂
Thank you for watching, yea it would suck if you drove 4h and got turned around however no doubt somebody didn’t check their emails and fell into that trap
I also only had tickets for Saturday. However travelled up from South Wales on Friday, stayed in hotel then found out it was cancelled when I happen to wake up at 01:00 and checked my phone. Hotel would only give me 50% back for Saturday night when I had to cancel, so with hotel and petrol just over £300 spent to see nothing and 7 hrs driving in heavy rain 😟!

It was mental. I live nearby, my brand new door, just had it fitted it last week, was blown out of my hands . Crap all over the garden. Neighbours shed roof was blown off.
Hopefully most of the cars are fine.

Great vid mark my brother was going Saturday and lost ££400 in tickets but they are refunding but still it doesn’t cover the losses for the traders good angle to show the audience
Thanks for this video because me and 2 friends of mine. Whe had tickets for saturday but went home saturday because it got canceld. But we did not understand why. Because the wind was not that bad when we left. But now i see this video i completly understand it.
to be fair the wind is really bad, hitting like 30mph in some areas currently. So it doesnt shock me at all, i wouldnt be surprised if its delayed tomorrow or even cancelled as well as the winds arent going to ease an awful lot with 20s still predicted tomorrow morning. Its a big shame but safety first.

Slightly smaller event but cancelled for the same reasons was the RAF Odiham's motorcycle club track day at the base. It would've been impossible to run it.
Had a good look at the Fiesta yesterday 👍 was nice to see Renee Zellweger hanging out of the back of it too! 🎉

Having been to FOS several times, sadly not this year, but the stands are a bit make shift it has to be said. Perfectly fine in the summer, which it’s meant to be lol. So I can understand the cancellation, it’s not worth the risk of structures collapsing on people. And the number the event attracts that’s a BIG risk.
You have a talent for storm reporting, maybe come over to Florida for hurricane season. 😂 Looking forward to more goodwood content.👊

Everyone loves Colin's Subaru and I was a big fan and in those forests kipping in the boot of the Estate car overnight ready for the first stage (still dark).
Air horn well and truly blasting, and I was lucky enough to be on the final stage of rally GB 1995 in the last 1k of that final stage (well we planned it this way).
Sad to see those beautiful cars gone 😥

Well, you can't blame them for deciding to error on the side of caution. Things getting damaged and money not being made is bad enough but the possibility of people getting hurt and the liability related to that is a good enough reason for me.
I agree. Problem is that Festival of Speed literally did ZERO PR to explain the reality of the situation. If His Grace or representative had done a piece to camera to insert into the UA-cam rerun it would have displayed some sort of concern for the disappointed ticket holders and viewers. Instead they sent out an email or text alert and left us uninformed on the situation.
