Wow I followed the instructions, even when the video didn’t have all the steps but I was able to fix my attic door!!! I did it by myself with little skills. Anyone can do it if they have enough motivation. Spending $500 on a new door was enough for me!!!! Thanks for posting!!!!
Mark, thanks for the Sarasota tim laughs over the last few months. We owe you a case of your fav beer. Make a video of your booze preferences and I'll have case or bottle waiting for you at your local shop
@@41Martn love you mark ! Hope all is well! Yes Timmy is still out there filming 6837 videos a day and our group is still out there laughing at his expense! Have a great Saturday!
Thanks for the video. I ended up having to move the pivot out around 4 inches, but when I moved the hole connecting the arm to the ladder, the arm wouldn’t bend flat as I closed it and got the attic door would hit the arm, preventing me from closing it. Ended up connecting the arm back to the original hole, and door shuts entirely. Only issue is the legs of the ladder don’t reach the floor. Going to add on some extensions and should be good to go.
Finally found a helpful video! Thank you! Did you get the right or left arm? I'm replacing the same side as you. I'm assuming is the right hand side if you're going up?
Hello Mark, can you please post a link or reply with a make and model on where can I buy the spring arm for the attic ladder? I have the same problem with one arm is bent and could not find the same part for it. Thank you very much.
Be careful folks. One of the arms on my ladder broke. I was pushing a shoving closed for months. Eventually other arm broke, the attic collapsed and I fell down on the back of my head ! 😵💫 🥴
In addition to my last comment. Is there any measurement process to determine exactly where to place the plate on the frame and the arm on the ladder?? So Frustrating.
Thank you for this! I'm dealing with same issue, but I can't find the sweet spot of where to secure the pivot arm and the bolt into the folding Stair. Been lots of trial and error, may resort to buying shorter spring 🤷♂️🤷♂️. Any suggestions would be very welcome!
Did you happen to replace the other hinge too? Do you happen to know how far fwd you moved the hinge forward. If you measure from the back plate or wall to the center of hinge where it pivots. What is that measurement?
I did not replace the second hinge I moved the bolt plate back two widths of said bolt plate thanks. For you it might be more or less keep trying till you get it
Thanks for this. I've been looking for that hinge for 4 days. Got some off Amazon and will try them this weekend. I got them before I saw your video now I feel confident they'll work. I have exact same ladder as you.
Wow Mark I'm going through the same situation! Your stairs look just like my stairs! Nice wide stepsister the new ones look tiny! I called American stairway says they don't make it no more...
@@ChrisRhodus I'm in the process of trying what Mark did... I just ordered the arms off Amazon and of course the sent me 2 lefts.. so now I gotta return them... I got the 9 inch springs too.. so when they send them in correct I'm actually going to try to install gas shocks to see if I can replace the springs for quieter easier function.. Amazon sells them with brackets at all different pounds of force and lengths
This sucks I been at it all day I moved the brackets around further back and back... still not closing....I got the 9 inch springs but nothing... difference here is mark has 1 arm of each kind... I have 2 new arms 2 new springs... just seems the springs even under tension are not strong enough to bring the stairs up.....

What is the final measurements for the hinge, so I don't have to put in 3 sets of holes guessing. Where did you get the 9" spring?

I did purchase a shorter spring and used that. Just remember it will work it works on the new ones
I think I got a 9 inch spring
@@41Martn Thanks, yes I bought the same, but have only changed the broken right side. Maybe I should replace the left as well and see how that goes.
