    I'm impressed!! What would you say about the tolerance/wear this would be under? I'm mainly thinking about the wood with angles cut for the bolt, and the bolts theoretical tendency to slightly twist, little but lots over time. Also, how did you source those smooth poles used as hinges please?

      Thankyu!
      Generally without including the wear there is already slightly tolerance. I didnt aimed for precision so that was no problem for me.
      After the disassemble I noticed slightly wear on the bolts. With this build the bolts doesnt run on plain wood. I took an stainless steel tube with an inside diameter of 8mm. Outside diameter is 10mm. Its kind of a bearing. The missing part was lubrication. If I lubricated these parts I guess the wear would be minimized. The wear wasn't that big to notice any difference. Using real bearings would make a difference in precision and decrease the resistance.
      The smooth poles are 8mm stainless steel round stock.

      @@Baerenson thanks for replying buddy!!
      My use is for the local museum, lifting heavy boxes up and down from and to the high (or low) shelves, be it craft or clothing stuff for schools or artifacts which vary from rocks to machinery/mechanisms...nothing like a modern lathe scale, but can be quite immense...I doubt we'd ever use it for that though, just the every day stuff lol, I'd say 150kg. I was thinking about buying cheap bearings from express since it seems high quality is just an abbreviation for "American board of bearing" something or other, I don't mind deviences like you and would stack the bearings to the thickness of wood... however, reading your reply gave me the idea of grinding or filing the threads smooth where applicable, using washers between the wood lengths and lock nuts (I called them bolts last time I think) so they won't move. For the tubing, I wonder if wardrobe rails are sufficient and inexpensive :o
      I followed your insta btw, seeing another comment elsewhere :D thanks again bro

      @@clevelandexplorer2221 Would be pretty convient for lifting heavy stuff from shelves. You could use part threaded bolts, then you dont need the extra filing. Yeah I took lock nuts too. Dont know how thick the walls of wardrobe rails are. Hope they are not aluminium, that would be a bit to soft.

      @@Baerenson thanks bud, and I thought I heard of part threaded bolts but not seen them about..not like I have decent stores about for it. The wardrobe rails arent aluminium, more steel or something and of course clothes do weigh a ton in mass. I wonder in extreme hypothetical, HOW a pole would collapse under such force if it were paper thin...in theory, it would be restricted on all sides to stop it flattening :s as it happens btw, today I got a power file!! Haha, great haul-compresdor-£40. File-£20. Extra strong and extremely quiet grinder-£20. Old heavy duty but compact jack hammer with original metal toolbox and bit, transformer and extension lead-£30. Drill press of what, 1020w, 4" movement and mechanics vice-£50. I think I've struck gold, older the better in a lot of ways

    So the whole weight is only held by the two thin metal bands?! Scary

    Dumb question - What is the aluminum tape with the holes called. Would like to purchase it locally. Thanks

      @Baerenson  2 роки тому

      I'am from germany, here we call it "Montageband" or "Lochband". "Lochband" means "hole band".
      It's not made from aluminium, that wouldn't be strong and durable enough. Its steel band.
      Maybe you ask for steel band with holes.
      It can hold decent amount of weight, but I would be careful and not overloading those bands. I didnt go far over 30kg with this setup. Higher weights I can't confirm, because I didn't try.
      Keep in mind the quantity you have to raise and lower the scissor table. If you have to do it a lot in repetition, over and over again in one day, not just lifting sometimes the steel band might wear out what can cause a tear.
