Sorry, this is Mike . I'm on my wife's computer watching your VDIYS on some membrane instal. I gotta tell ya , you're a natural with these videos. Thanks
You just helped me identify at least three steps I haven't considered on my french door installation, that I will start in 30 minutes- or when I return from the store from buying the sill plate (or flashing to be modified at the site), the sealant (not caulking) & the expansion foam. THANKS!!!!!
note the Tajima caulk gun he's using. The sealant he's talking about is quite dense and hard to push with a standard caulk gun, especially if its not 85 degrees. The gun he's using is probably 26:1, vs the 8:1 guns you commonly see on the shelf. Other companies make high ratio caulk guns, but Tajima is a very high quality brand. That's why they paint them in metal flake car paint (I think). Worth having a good gun unless you like broken caulk guns in the middle of setting a door (or window). Nice one, Gary!
this is great. I love Larry Haun but until now had not heard of Gary Katz. I replaced my French door not so long ago, and the original builder had not done ONE bit of flashing! Wow, talk about the rot. after rebuilding that area, I flashed it and even bought the expensive sill pan!
Mr. Katz, I was very fortunate to have attended one of your Road Shows. Your attention to detail along with your in depth knowledge of work flow and best practice material installation were really eye-opening and changed the way I approach projects. BTW I still reference the miter template you made for me. I hope we cross paths again.
I loved the details of this installation. NOTHING is ever perfect. The laser tool was good idea to start off right. The moisture barrier, pressure sensitive tool excellent investment. He's very careful, and tests the fit after applying the waterproofing membrane. This is a great product for exterior sill installation.
nice job...How would you go over a cement sill?? I am putting in a slider over a concrete patio which has a small 1x5 inch cement sill. Its 5 inch wide and 6 feet long......not sure if I should drop the vinyl door onto the cement sill, or use a thin p.v.c. board in between...Pella says that i can just go over the cement sill after the tape and sealer are put down there......i appreciate your input, spent 35 years as a painter, a newbie with this sort of work.!!
Oh my gosh I WANT that patio door!!!😍💞 Can you come bust open my load-bearing wall and put that in with a deck for my 45th birthday pa-LEEEZE?!🥺🙏🏻🤣 Single disabled widow and mom-BEST PRESENT EVER! lol Wonderful video. Thank you so much!
I had a installer install a sliding door by simply placing the door on wood with silicon on the bottom between the wood and door. He didn’t do any flashing on the door sill. Does this make any sense. He mentioned when the siding people show up the will do the flashing. If I’m not mistaken doesn’t the sill pan flashing have to be installed? I can’t find any examples to flashing in the fashion he is describing.
I'm doing a deck off an old house and installing a new door. This tutorial shows unique real life issues like I'm facing unlike a lot of videos. Thanks for the help.
This is an awesome video! Extremely educative, go over all the necessary steps for a remodel which I have in mind. I hope you have more videos to share! You should teach! :)
Leave it to a Jew to be so meticulous and intellectual. I love it! Kopacetic baby! Nice job. I do mine very similar but a little differently. I like corner flashing. Just did a Marvin French this Saturday door on a 10,200 square foot converted barn and it was a challenge to say the least. I forgot the chevrons, lol, but it’s flashed so well I don’t think it will matter. Keep up the good work!
Tony Lascano wow dude You must be a professional. Why do you have to post your opinion he gave a pretty good video even know he was annoying as hell like my old school boss but he knows what the fuck he’s talking about
why would anyone thumb down this video? this instructor is very detailed and shows every steps. Thank you for a great educational video
Probably handymen who work in the trades who've never been taught how to do a moisture free installation and then got called out on it later.
@@ATLparanormalOG Thank you. Because now I have to fix their stinking mess.

Thanks for the video. I appreciate your taking the time to demonstrate exterior door sill installation.
Thank you for a detailed step-by-step process in installing the membrane. I agree in previous comments--love your meticulous, and doing the job right.

Does OSI sealant go on the inside top and sides of the door jam before installed?
What weather membrane did you use on the exterior of the zip systems rim board?
Looks like Grace ice and water shield.

You said you would speak about the green 'ziplock'. What is it and why do you put it underneath direct fixed weatherboard??
