The Chieftain. The worlds greatest used tank salesman.. :D I love these videos
would you buy a used tank from this man? You bet I would!
@@nowthenzen same
I would buy an Abrams from him =D
I think used tanks are now in high demand... 😕
He'd make a fortune!
The background music seems to finally be just right. :P
You really notice how loud/repetitive it can be when watching a lot of old episodes.
I think the music is to stop others stealing any of their material to use in other videos?
@@xmanhoe You can get the music on Audio Networks, it is called Superstorm.
planescaped . Either Your an O,A,P or need ears syringed aka Cleaned! Smiles Xxx
Thanks again Nicholas, please keep up the good work. And please remember - we germans have no problems pronouncing things like "Doppelkupplungsgetriebe" und "Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft" but a simple "squirrel" drives us mad :-)
skwee - rool
Or Fussbödenshleifmaschinenverlei
Aber Trockensumpfschmierung und Schnapper Magnet zünder sind schon spaßige Wörter
Yep Germans engineer everything to prevent their biggest nightmare from ever happening.
no beer and currywurst in the BRD 😱
@@marvinrazor597 des erste ist ja wenigstens noch ein schönes allgemeinverständliches Wort, aber das zweitehört sich für mich als Nichtmechaniker auch nur nach der sinnfreien Aneinanderreihung an.
Yes ! My favorite WW2 TD ! The interior of the Jagdpanzer IV is not very well known - I hope this one still has authentic interior.
Me too!
I really hope so too because I never seen the interior of the Jagdpanzer!
The Patton Museum had a mint condition Pz-IV/70(V) with complete authentic interior that was in running order twenty years ago (virtually identical to the Jgdpz-IV except for the main armament). Although now it's apparently stuck in storage at Fort Benning and from what I've seen looks pretty ratty.
@@THX11458 I'm sorry to hear that but at least it is not rotting outside together with most of AFV and cannons as Aberdeen Proving Ground!! Any clues when they will open the new museum?
Any photos I've seen suggest we're in for a treat with prototype interior restoration. The most authentic JP IV interior though is probably the Saumur vehicle. The interior is unrestored with considerable surface rust but it is a time capsule, and you can make out the colours from small patches in good condition and colour demarcations are quite clear. That's one I'd love to see restored but the Munster team did a great job.
Good job too, Chieftain...a Leinsterman in Munster? ;-)
played WoT for years. Found you because of that, so it was sort of a reverse advert...Hope they keep you.
"I didn't choose the Jagd Life..." just doesn't have the same ring to it....
...I didn't choose the hunter life?
Sounds fine to me. It's no Stug life, but not all bad
STuG lyfe son
This is a pun
The result when a Panzer IV and a Hetzer make love 😍😅
Its a awesome TD
Those Outtakes ... I was laughing so hard, I would have laughed through the whole 17 takes XD
They're in a roll this year! So many episodes in quick succession, keep it up! Love it!
Bless this series! The best tank reviewing content on UA-cam. Right up there with The Tank Museum!
At last I'm seeing the Jagdpanzer IV Pak 39 L/48 that was produced until November then the production proceeded the Pak 42 L/70 variant. It is very interesting to see the 0-Serie preproduction vehicle, easily seen with the rounded sides at the front next to the early production variant coated with the zimmerit. For your info it is interesting that because the cannon PaK 39 was so low the muzzle break created too much dust betraying it's position so many crews removed the muzzle break. Looking forward to see the 2nd part and again you did a good job 👍👍
Finally! I've been waiting for a review on this TD since I first started watching these videos. Always been my favorite, I have a picture of my grandfather posing with a knocked out one from the war...
Yay! I’ve been waiting for this one. I’ve liked his recent picks of tanks for Inside the Hatch. Keep it up Chief!
Thanx! I've been waiting ages for this TD to be featured. One of my faves, if for no other reason than I'm a Jagdpanzer 2nd Edition player, lol. Trying to mount the Panther's 75L70 gun on a Panzer IV chassis was kinda stretching the engineering. But it did work well for what it was designed to do. Kill enemy AFVs. It got the nickname "Guderian's Duck" because being so nose-heavy, it tended to sort of waddle down the road. I wonder how long those forward road wheels lasted before needing replaced?
Hurray for track tensioning!
I hope you all noticed that at 12:43 they actually locked the track tensioning spanner to keep the Chieftain from trying it out!
Imagine if that wasn't locked
We could have seen the chieftain drove this Thing of beauty
-Ive a photo in one of my reference books of a pretty ingenious battlefield upgrade modification to the Jagdpanzer IV's schurzen panels....
-A rail welded to the length of the vehicles casemate side plates/lower sponson's with all the schurzen hanging on a 1" round, steel "Curtain Rod" of sorts w/hole-punched brackets welded on the backside of the panels themselves. Somewhat, but not completely like a piano hinge. So if any work needed to be done on the front fuel tank filling-tracks-wheels-sprockets-idlers-bogie leaf springs, all ya had to do was lift & pivot the plates & rest them on the angled case-mate armor above. They may have even had safety latches @ the top to properly retain them IIRC?...Cool & effective mod none the less!
-The case-mate angle is steep enough that I dont see them accidentally falling & ending the war early for some poor, unfortunate grease-monkey? Which, if said were to happen, might in fact be a blessing? -Considering the HORRORS those AMAZING recovery/repair company personnel faced when dealing with German AFV repairs!...;)
-That particular mod most likely done when the crew had 2-3 days of downtime when large, more time consuming repairs & overhauls were being tackled n' accomplished by the PanzerWerkStattCo mechaniacs....
I didn’t choose the Stug life, the Stug life chose me.
when in France, the Stug just likes heading to the coast 😁
The continued production of your videos is literally the only thing that is making me seriously reinstalling the game. Love the vids!
You right with the muzzle brake, because the power of the gun is still there.
And what power it was.
Outstanding Video and presentation.
Installed and played this game because of your excellent videos. Keep them coming please :) And after so much time you've finally showed how this Pzkw IV suspension looks like - it's covered by road wheels from outside so that peek from under the tank chassis was needed :)
Its good to see that inside the cheftains hatch is back... i missed the series
long-time World of Tanks player (since beta), and I love the Chieftain's Hatch... keep it going!
Keep the videos going chief the info is helpful and seeing the real thing is vary cool.
Love the video, but can't really do much to help with the end. My wife and I have already been playing since 2012! I do love the content, and in this case particularly so since the JagPz IV is one of my overall favorite vehicles to play and I've 3 marked the thing (along with nearly every other tier 5, 6, 7, and some tier 8 Germans).
Thanks for the great videos!
Great video!
Nice One and Always Informative plus Interesting! Cheers
I have indeed been playing the game 4 years on and off and that +these tank chats has cemented my dream of being a tanker
About time you did this one
to the person who finally turned the bloody background music down a notch...you have my eternal thanks, i love you!
I'm downloading the game now. I tried it a while back and quit pretty quickly because I didn't understand it. Now, I'm going to try again. I understand it a tad better now thanks to Jingles, and his and your videos make me want to try again.
I love the Panzer IV, Jagdpanzer IV and Stug III
Loyal player of many years, the chieftains hatch is what keeps me coming back.
awesome.... i always liked the jagdpanzer 4 design!
Great bloopers video at the end.
Can’t wait to get inside that vehicle.
outstanding vid! hope you do the sdkfz 222 someday!
The panzer IV vehicles float my boat.
I came here via the reverse. Discovered the game, and wanted to learn more about the damned tank that keeps knocking out my T34-85! Really enjoying the video. Hope to see more :)
And the Jagdpanzer IV was the inspiration for the Jagdpanzer Kanone of the Bundeswehr. (Which was then also used as Jagdpanzer Rakete later on ) . Unfortunatly for me , when it was my turn to do my Army duty the Jagdpanzer Kanone was phased out.
I really wanted to be on it ....but he Leopard was not bad either :-)
Love the Vids! Great addition to the game Nicholas!
your german is okay if you try your best haha.
Gr from Holland!
Just past 30,000 games. Have been a zipperhead, all my life. Love the game, videos are always informative. So many tanks, so little time.
Thanks Chieftain. Oh yeah, my grandkids are always saying they don't know what to get me for birthdays, etc. Tank models and WoT premium vehicles are always a good choice. Cheers, mate!! o7
The stug 3 is the one Whittman sharpened his teeth on. Low profile .excellent vehicles.
Very interesting great work
Once again thanks for the excellent insight. I love the honesty about your German. 🤣
Another great job. Yes, the language can be a mouthful sometimes. Thanks Chief.
Trockensumpfschmierung. XD
Pretty cool Outtakes!!!
That awful moment when the Schweinfurt Raid comes back to haunt you . . .
I served a congregation in Charleston WV, which had a member who was the lead pilot on that raid! Only four of his squadron returned to base out of 15 taking off that morning. Two turned back due to engine problems, three landed at other bases, heavily damaged.
the world revolves on ball bearings!
@@ricktimmons458 Hehehe
The Schweinfurt raid was a largely inconsequential event. It didn't affect German AFV production at all. Why you ask?? It's because the Germans had the ball bearing factories running at top speed years before the raid and had built up a huge supply of bearings that were distributed all over Germany. Secondly, the Swiss and Swedish made hundreds of thousands of high quality ball bearings for the Germans during the entire war. So the highly touted Schweinfurt raid became just target training for AA gun crews and German fighter aircraft.
Greetings Chieftain.
I love all your videos even watching every almost twice. And the really most important thing for me(and i think so for everyone else ) is that i am learning my favourite hobby: Tanks History. And thanks to you i have learned a lot. And now i am using this knowledge against my friends when we are playing World of Tonks. Speaking of which, that we are always calling our hate love.
Well there are many Problems with the game: the RNG, Arty, wheeled vehicles and the Economy System just to tell a few things.
We love to Play it and it makes even fun to play. But if in some matches, the arty always focus your tank and your RNG leaves you. Then you lose the desire to play the game any further
I hope that you can follow with what i have written and i wish everyone else a good day and good hunting in WoT
I'm a german so pls sorry if my english is not so good.
(If probably anyone need a platoon , hit me up. With the new frontline, i am often online again, as long as my work permits.
Just look at my nickname )
this hits deeply in my
I am not absolutely sure. But I had been told that the reason the shifted StuG production from the Pzkmpf III hull to Pzkmpf IV hull was because the factory that build the hull for Pzkmpf III was bombed and they really needed as much "tanks" as posibble to send to the front so they have to change the production to Pzkmpf hulls even the hulls was really needed to real tanks as the Pzkmpf IV H/J. I guess it also make sence since the Panther was suposely to change thee main tank from Pzkmpf IV to Panters so I guess thats why there were a lot of Pzkmpf IV hulls leftover to made them as StuGs ect.
Great Video......
Grandpa came across a platoon of these in August of 1944. His Churchill tank was destroyed quite easily.
Already play, but the videos add to the experience
Awesome, just 3 days after I searched "jagdpanzer 4 chieftains hatch" and found nothig, you release this Clip about one of my favorite ww2 vehicles. Thanks a lot!
Well done Chief
Played WoT for 5 years day in day out, it jumped the shark with the "wheeled" tanks. Always thought tracked vehicles came about as wheeled vehicles couldn't handle the terrain, but not in WoT. Used to have a Ferret armoured car when in the forces, trust me if you drove it like the "wheeled" tanks in WoT you would have broken bones, concussion and have turned turtle, farcically unrealistic so stopped playing. Keep up the very informative vids they are great.
I've been playing on and off since April 2012. Sadlymy Graphics Card has been broken for quite some time now and I can't aford a new one so I can't play at the moment. Chieftains Hatch and Quickybaby are the things keeping me following the updates and keeping my interest up. In a few months I'll be joining in again.
Look at all those nasty welds.
Great Video! And I play the game all the time.
Do you Play the 2nd Edition? They really made the infantry rules work well now. Streamlined the direct fire chart too.
Could have used the defunct mg port as a periscope port for a wide angle periscope since it does look like he could drive with his head out
A good and dear family friend was a Tiger I driver during the war...How cool would that have been?? WOW.
It would be nice to see some mobile command post vehicles or something on how the communication process went between the different organizations - like the US M577 I was in a Tank BN. in 75 that used it 4 different way, the Radioteletype was the most interesting
Pretty underrated TD
I loved the time wasting comment at the end of the video :D. Been playing this game for like 7 years
Somehow I expected Mr Doyle popping out from one of the hatches.
ive always been curious about this vehicle
I love this videos 😁😊
Love your german my dad is Swiss German I tried learning regular german no chance! Being Canadian born...
Okay, fair is fair, the leaf springs are mental :o) I think the sliding action at the thin end is the damper?
I already play WOT-Blitz, so forward that to the bean counters, cheers.
A few years ago they dug up a sturm it was upside down with winter tracks . Still combat loaded. Could the Chieftain do a podcast on this stug ,
Interesting a cupola was never designed for this vehicle but was featured on later model Stugs of the same production year
I wonder why they didn't armor up the cooler sides and backside with thicker plates to also kinda solve the front-heavyness problem.
The rubber on the wheels are made by Continental tires, just like my lambretta scooter I had years ago. Only mine were whitewalls...
And the spares were Dunlop! I wonder where they were made...France?
I'm kinda surprised at how short this armored vehicle is.
Idk why but the appearance of the tank just screams this is going to fk up your tank
Awesome 😎
Beautiful elegant vintage military works of art for an evil empire...the story these tanks tell would be ear splitting with an intensity that echoes through the ages.
When the ad for the game is more fun than the game itself.
Love the videos wot blitz player because of these and some time I'm going to get my own Xbox one so I can try wot console. Thank you for your work GG!!!
This guy is so much more interesting than the war gaming Europe guy.
Ye Gads The welds on the prototype near the vision port are truly hideous. They're in such stark contrast to other welds with a decent weave cap that it makes me wonder what on earth was going on when they fabbed up the prototype. @4.20. Maybe not enough power to weld properly, inadequate materials, faulty equip?
Anyone else notice the Continental tires and Dunlop return rollers? Were those replacements or made under license?
Please do a Tiger 2 Inside the Hatch
Hello. I have a question on how to repair transmission on this vehicle. Suppose the transmission(in front of the vehicle) needs to be taken out to be replaced with a new one. Is it possible to do without first removing the main gun?
"Time waster?" kinda feeling bad being a paying customer now...
Wait - wouldn't the muzzle brake actually help reduce the visual firing signature seeing as the bottom of it is solid and would redirect muzzle gasses away from the ground (a la the A2 flashhider on an M4/M16)?
Yay!!
Ah yes, my Sunday ride. Nice indeed.
There is a free presentation going on about the mysteries of tank design, and the rest of the visitors are not even facing the right way...
15:25 Gesundheit.
Are the prototype and production units the same height? Cheers!!
Little tidtit here: the implications of the nature of the weapon went beyond tactical use (which was a concern and obviously weighed in the consideration of the vehicle), but into the realm of the constant power struggles which were the common day-to-day reality of Nazi Germany.
To the point: had the JgPzIV been labelled as a StuG, it'd been not only tactically deployed as such, it'd been crewed by artillery men, and it'd been under the absolute jurisdiction, administration and control of the Werhmacht artillery branch. The Panzerwaffe wouldn't have it that way no matter what - this fight had already happened years before when the fighting happened over the StuGIII and while the artillery got their way with that one, the leaders of the Panzerwaffe didn't take it lightly.
As a junior service that during the pre-war years had to fight a very uphill struggle to remain as an semi-independent branch of the army when everyone was trying to get a hold on controlling the new weapon (infantry, cavalry and artillery being equally interested in having exclusive control over tanks), the Panzerwaffe had a strong sense of independence and, as usually happens to junior and/or newly created branches, a somewhat tangible complex of inferiority. In that scenario having an armored fighting vehicle taken away from their jurisdiction and being given to another branch was something they took very seriously.
Guderian in particular was very active during the times of the StuGIII's inception arguing against the vehicle being crewed and controlled by the artillery, and (as with many other things) him not being exactly the most diplomatic personality, he took a crapload of flak for his insistence of putting that weapon under direct command of the Panzerwaffe instead.
So, while there's little doubt that giving control of the Assault Guns to the artillery was the right one with the StuGIII, when this debate began all over again with the JgPzIV the Inspectorate of the Armored Troops (namely, Guderian), went full tilt about NOT having that one taken by the artillery aswell. Partly on very valid tactical reasons (the Panzerwaffe was severely outnumbered in numbers of tanks in all fronts already, while there were no lack of StuGIIIs, and having extra vehicles given to the panzer branch made a lot of sense), but mostly because Guderian would never allow for it for many reasons, a lot of them personal. And given that he had not only a direct line to the Führer, but his personal favor, it was a foregone conclussion this vehicle would end up being exactly what it ended up being.
At any rate there was a StuGIV anyway too, so in the end the artillery also got their vehicles aswell, just in more limited numbers (around 1000 of those built by the wars' end against circa 2000 PzJgIV).
It’s the turn of the Flatpanzer? I didn’t think Id see the day
Finally more german ww2 tanks! Sweet.
After the jagdpanzer2 can you do the marder 3
Will you do one on the Panzer IV/70?
The JPIV....the most underappreciated tank in WoTs
I'm currently playing it. I don't like it one bit.
@@demonbre you have to have it maxed out equipment wise and a good crew and it sings....more often than not top three every time on team
your videos got me excited enough to rejoin WoT, I really enjoy these and the game.
"Lift up the Schurzen" fnarr. Snort.
"Schürze" is also the word for "apron" ^^'
