The only thing that’s changed is illegal migrants being put to the top of the list staying anywhere from average to luxury hotels. Some trashing the place, some causing a stink because the FREE meals they are provided by the hotels are not to their taste. I’ll leave it there…

Nothing ever changes in the end does it. We've come full circle after fifteen years of Tory rule, we're right back to this as normal again. But now it's even worse.we have people living from food banks, and epidemic of drug use that dwarves the heroin of the 80s and a social attitude that would make Thatcher proud. Everyone looking over each others shoulder to see if they're getting something, and a total denial of any social problems before the wave of migration at the turn of the century. Look how people are living then, I remember it! No-one had migration to blame then🤷 it's government serving their own greed that's the problem.
Exactly. This the type of film I'd show ppl who think the 70s were better. Have you watched Johnny go home from same uploader? Homeless London boys at risk to paedo gangs, just like in last 20 years it's been girls at risk. The boys predators were all upper class British established.

I remember a great community spirit where everyone looked out for each other, local shopkeepers who knew everyone by name and nobody going hungry even if we didn't have much with neighbours taking meals to the less fortunate. The 80s is where it started going downhill IMO with Thatcher telling everyone to get on their bikes to find a job as unemployment reached record levels, the beginning of breaking up families and increasing homelessness as people headed for the big cities, especially London.

This is so interesting but so sad at the same time. This film only seemed like yesterday. I think nothing much has changed even though this was made almost four decades ago. We hope the situation will improve and people live better lives.
Poor little girl 😢 who threatens to smack a baby that small she doesn’t even know what she’s doing wrong, maybe she wouldn’t eat because your swinging her around by her limps and trying to force her down, I wouldn’t eat for you neither, and I don’t care how stressed she is with the small environment her baby didn’t ask to be born
This was 40 years ago, the mother is young and utterly clueless. She's essentially homeless and seems to have NO idea how to handle a toddler. It's heartbreaking for the baby, back then there was no internet to help get information either, I'm the same age as the baby here and I remember it wasn't uncommon to hear people speak this way when I was very little.

Until recently I worked in a public facing government department and it’s so sad to see kids having kids. Charlene’s mom is likely depressed as she said she finds it hard to motivate herself and her poor little girl is suffering as a result. It’s possible neither have bonded to each other. Fact Charlene isn’t even talking yet is probably because she never got stimulated as a baby 😢

Omg I know Hilary… havnt seen her for years and years she was a wonderful mum andn last time I saw her she had a flat.. amazing woman I had my work experience with her at a shop she ran in borehamwood. She was top class. I hope she is doing well ❤️

Having watched documentaries like this here on our ABC in Australia during the ‘80’s, I became aware of the social issues surrounding people my own age. Due to this, I viewed Thatcher’s Britain during the 1980’s as extremely harsh & unfair. However, the music coming out of England was creative & mind-blowing! Pop, Punk, Synth-pop, New-Wave, New Romantics, Ska, etc. I’ve since met many Poms who have migrated here to Australia, who were in their teens/early 20’s during the ‘80’s & they never had to deal with issues like this, because they had parents, education & homes, etc. Even now, I feel sorry for these young, vulnerable parents and wonder how their life panned out. 😢
Nothing has changed.people are still unemployed,but machines can now do jobs better and faster than a human. 100years time with development of AI no-one will work and the government with have to pay everyone a universal living wage. There is much fear that the government is closing down the cash based benefit system but I think welfare system will still exist in some way in the future as there will be no need to work because of machines and computers running everthing.
