      Is this jacket warm enough for temperatures varying between -30°C to 0°C? (let's say with decent layering)

    • @181Days
      @181Days  Рік тому +1

      @@sunilshastry oh man, that’s pretty cold! I think if you had layers on and the coat zipped/buttoned up you would probably be ok. The hood closes nicely and the wrist cuffs keep a lot of warm in. However, I don’t think I would just sit outside in this coat at -30! If you’re moving around you’ll probably be ok though. Full disclosure: I have a Fjallraven I switch to for subzero temps, but I think the Uniqlo would be ok

      @@181Days Haha, great to know! Thanks for getting back! And yes, getting outdoors layered up while it's -30 is some task, I had this Uniqlo jacket while in Toronto and it was great and I wasn't sure if it's suitable enough for Saskatoon, CA weather during the winters. Planning to buy it regardless for a potential Black Friday sale.

    • @181Days
      @181Days  11 місяців тому

      It is water resistant but not proof, so it will bead up water for a little bit but then let some through the fabric in heavier rain. I have been in pretty heavy storms with this and it dries out fine after a bit, but definitely wouldn't wear it as a dedicated rain coat!

      That’s pretty cold! I think you might be alright with a good layer under it, but I will say it’s not waterproof. It does ok in like mist or kind of light rain but once it’s wet it’s wet! So if it’s typical rainy London I’m not sure. Let me know if you get one!

    How would you wash it in the washing machine though, need to wash mine. Plus I have dark grey one and I have a few dark patches from washing up plates

    • @181Days
      @181Days  Рік тому +6

      Great question! I actually JUST did this this weekend because I got grease on mine. Washing down has always scared me haha. Here is what I did: bought a bottle of “Down Gear Wash” from Amazon (I’ve heard good things about Nikwax down cleaner but didn’t have time to order it). I spot treated the jacket with white vinegar and water originally, water first, then vinegar, then water to wipe away the vinegar, but it didn’t remove the grease (works on water spots though!). So originally I just washed the coat with the down detergent. It helped but didn’t fully remove it. So then I wet the stain, put some dish soap on it and worked it in, then washed it again with the down detergent. That basically did the job. I got ANOTHER bad stain on it this weekend and ended up putting some real detergent on the stain (a tiny bit) after another round of water/dish soap and then washing it again. The down detergent really is amazing. My jacket had a little smell and a few rain stains and it completely removed them.
      Here is the thing: real detergent makes the down clump up. So you need to really use a bit of the down detergent if you use any normal detergent as a spot treatment. But here’s the trick! When you dry the jacket, add either a few clean tennis balls, or like 10 balled up socks. The balls/socks beat the down up and break up any clumps and renew the loft of the down and then it feels like a new jacket. I did mine on medium heat a few times until it felt dry enough. It took me two days to really get it right, but it’s doable! Maybe I should make a video on this…

    • @181Days
