The Iron Snail is a men’s fashion vlog starring a young man named Michael and featuring a snail no bigger than a quarter. The two are set on taking over the world of fashion by creating a clothing line to end all clothing lines. Until then, we’re here to tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the best clothing out there, from the highest quality raw denim jeans to the warmest jackets to the sturdiest boots…the Iron Snail has got you covered. (written by Taylor, though Michael is sometimes known to talk about himself in the third person… xoxo)
OOPS! Frizmworks should actually be first (the vid is by price!) they just opened their own online shop and their jacket is around $220!

I live in Minnesota, and the one;y thing I can ever wear is Canada Goose, or Perfect moment. All other coats just dont keep out the wind and cold enough.
I got a down jacket that I want you to look over can I send it your way ???
@theironsnail , I’m looking at the Patagonia cotton down jacket and the Fjällräven Greenland down. I like that these are more casual pieces. Which is your preferred choice?
I love your review style. Packed with substance, but with some light hearted jokes sprinkled throughout. Thumbs up.
A little too much for me. Then again I'm not part of the generation raised on ADD meds.
The last jacket was not long enough. For me the first choice is the jacket that fits the best. If it does not, you will not want to wear it. I have owned almost all of these brands and Arcteryx was the only one to keep me dry in spring skiing when it occasionally rains.
yuppp….looks short as hell. That’s a no for me. I rather have it too long than too short.
Love my beta insulated. I live in Canada and I've been wearing it during very cold weather (-20 degrees) and it's a charm. Warm, lightweight, comfy and long enough.
Can't talk about the others though.
You should definitely check Kanuk down jackets, made in Montreal and they were the best ones kept me alive during -40 Canadian winters. Also, Filson down parka or down coat are great with waxed exterior
Damn, I literally just bought a down jacket for myself for Christmas and NOW you drop this episode 😂 I’m gonna wait until your wool jacket episode drops before I pull the rigger on anything (also waiting for the announcement of yours, I’m (im)patiently awaiting that day).
One final note to be that guy: those corduroy pants are awesome. You should tell us what corduroy you recommend too 😂 keep up the great work Michael!
Pretty sure those are the donegal corduroy from Wythe.
I picked up the CDW x 3sixteen at the end of the Summer on sale (all black, $400 on sale). Honestly it hasn't been cold enough to wear it this year. Even in 32 degree weather it's still too warm unless I don't wear anything but a t-shirt. It caught my eye last Winter in the store because of how absurdly silky it feels. I'm jealous of the one in the video, though. The white/red combination is amazing. The new 3sixteen one looks great too.
Feathered Friends are the undisputed best down jacket makers.
Aren’t there endless complaints about down endlessly coming out of the pull string holes on the hood????
I bought the warmest I could find, for me it’s the Feathered Friends Rock and Ice. I don’t own a car so that freed up the funds for such an investment.
I have been skiing with an isolated Columbia ski jacket for 7-8 years. It kept with warm with minimal base layers during Jan and Feb at Ski Big 3 in Alberta, that would be -20-30 on a good day :)
That Karakoram rendition from Frizmworks is an absolute staple item here in Korea, where the brand is from.
How is the construction overall? Does the cotton/poly fabric feel thick and quality?
@@eagleeyes9770 I myself don't have it but I do own other pieces and they are all quality. They try to similar to Japanese brands that reproduce original items with precision.
05:12 I love how casually he submerges his boot in water, that's a waterproof flex!
Your vids are always a great way to start my weekend! At least when they’re on Friday evenings.
I've been through countless jackets at this point, because I'm built like a brick and a lot of them don't fit and/or because I am one of those people that heats up way too much. I own the Nuptse and I've owned the arcteryx, the Nuptse is great until it's windy and the air is moist at which point it needs a shell to do anything. The arcteryx was too warm for me, even in -20 and beyond weather and also doesn't layer with hoodies, which is a no go to me. I've found that layering myself in more layers than one might otherwise need and using wool or less insulating synthetic jackets has worked perfectly for me. I don't have an issue with extra weight, but I also don't climb mountains where that might matter more to some. So I just end up piling things on when it gets colder that I can take off with relative ease if I overheat. I think people expect too much from a jacket in a way, especially down jackets, so I'm looking forward to the wool jacket comparison!
Mammoth me, Michael!
Love the look of that Fjallraven greenland jacket, though I am also slightly biased towards the waxed jacket having purchased a Barbour Classic Bedale and Freenote RJ1. Help, my bank account hurts.
The North Face one is my personal favorite. Can't wait for the wool jacket episode.
The problem with these jackets is that they snag on a tree branch and are completely ruined after that. That's why I went with the Carhartt Montana or the Carhartt Yukon extremes coat with cordera nylon. $150 will buy you the carhart Montana and $200 will buy you the Yukon extreme's jacket with the corduroy collar.
For looks however, you cannot beat seager.
You’re sorely missed on Theo & Harris Michael! It’s missing your mojo. Hoping you’ll be back there soon!
Uniqlo down jacket for me. Have one since 2017, no maintenance ecxept the occasional wash, warm as hell, still looks new.
Glad you wash your jackets. Some people dont
The North face and Arc’teryx blow all of the others away. In all categories. The jacket you fell in love with was just a personal obsession you ended up with.
How DARE you call CDW such an infatuation. They are nothing to scoff at! And have been around longer than Arcteryx has been around! If you don’t know CDW, you don’t know down jackets! So stop talking! Troll! Plus, they still make their stuff, here IN SEATTLE!
@@zekeyeager1458 I said North Face and Arc’teryx are better. I didn’t say it was a bad jacket. Good for you if you like it. I’d be cold and wet in an hour if I used it. Also; the length of a companies existence means nothing. Ford has been around longer than both our lifetimes they still make bad cars.
@@reggin_spelt_backwards It’s not meant for “look at me I’m gonna go climb K2”, it’s meant for keeping you warm when you’re moving from place to place. A very unassuming but luxurious coat that looks cooler than any of these modern tech hipster gimmicks. And btw if Ford made bad cars, they wouldn’t have been the manufacture to sell the most trucks in the USA, won as many races as they have be it at Le Mans or GRC, and they sure as hell wouldn’t be considered one of the most valuable companies to ever exist. Stop being anecdotal you dumbass😂
@@zekeyeager1458 CDW is weak compared to the others. facts are facts.
Great video! I own the Fjallraven Greenland Down #1 jacket and it's nice. My only complaint is it needs more down fill to be very warm. It's more of a Fall/Early Winter jacket. Unless you want to layer a lot, which for me it's not really designed for.. given it's a slim cut. It is a really nice jacket though... just not for very cold weather on it's own.
ive got one - its hopeless but looks lovely
@@RolloZx it definitely looks great! If it had more down fill it would be fantastic. ;)
I think I'm here first so I'll say thank you Mr. Micheal Micheal, your vids are great and Ive been watching out for a few new pieces since I started watching. I just found a Best made x Dehan in my size and grabbed it for the incoming winter cold! Definitely the most I've ever spent on a sweater but I can't wait to try it. When you mentioned it, it got stuck in my head.
Also I you might like Open Sea Leather wallets. I have a kangaroo leather one and gorgeous, and a facinating leather.
I love this channel man, your enthusiasm is infectious!
Montbell does a solid down jacket for a affordable price. That said Marmot has a warm cube with Goretex outside and tons of down that's by far the warmest jacket I own.
Also down is best for a midlayer. I rather use my Beta AR and a separate down.
Arcteryx repair is possible. And I've gotten coupons when it wasn't.
I am both learning and being entertained while being DOWN right impressed by the Iron snails love for jackets !
Michael's "commercials" are just as entertaining as his content. Is it just me or is this dude going to be super famous one day?
Can't wait for next week. I wanna see what all the hype is about. This is gonna be awesome.
You did Crescent Down Works dirty by comparing a collaboration “jacket”, really one of their sweater models to relatively heavyweight very cold weather jackets. One of their parka jackets would’ve been a fair comparison.
I have no idea how I got here!!! I have Zero interest in clothes and fabrics or jackets ....I live in Hot and Humid India and don't need a down jacket.... but if UA-cam wants me here! I guess I need to learn about down jackets!!
Bought a Manifattura Ceccarelli fisherman parka for my fist down jacket because of you!
Never liked down jackets. Love my Arcteryx jackets with synthetic insulation. I think they nail the (athletic) fit pretty well. They seem to know best how the human body looks/behaves in motion.
This. As a guy with an athletic build, I love the fit
Mmm. I saw that Eddie Bauer Yellowstone hat. I have the same one. Excellent hat.
Face it Michael - you are going to have to keep the Downworks jacket, and you should - it makes you so happy!
Arc'teryx hands down my favourite for warmth, bulk, weight, water resistance, wind resistance, all of it.
Hello, I genuinely appreciate your storytelling. Keep it up.
Over the years I chose Eddie Bauer great warmth and even better price lol 😂
Great review and humor 👏😄 I’m now a fan 🙏
The best US made down jacket is actually Feathered Friends. You're welcome.
love all the jackets but what are those trousers, love the texture
I think you should review them understanding that the most technical area most of them will go will be an afternoon walk in the woods.
What sweaters are you rocking?! I love the rolled neck jumpers I just can’t find them!
The arc'teryx jacket seems to be the best imo, delamination seems to be a small price to pay for how the construction upholds on the jacket in harsh weather conditions
I once heard a good line about Arc’teryx (I own some of their stuff by the way. It went “arcteryx makes a product that’s maybe 10% better than the rest but at 50% more in price”. So not really worth it unless you have money to waste and wanna brand brag
When Michael's starts a history lesson (7:00), I aways lean in a little closer 🧐
that Crescent Down Works is seriously good looking man jealous.
Rab & Mountain Equipment make the best winter jackets 👌🏼
GIVE ME THE MAMOTH
If it doesn't have corozo nut buttons I'm gonna riot.
@@jdlackey88 It says on his website that it does have corozo nut buttons.
@@short2048 Nice! Just the way he waxes on about Corozo nut buttons, would be a crying shame not to have them.
Hey! What sweater are you wearing in this vid? lovely!
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS - PLEASE NEVER STOP
The Lululemon Tech Canvas Wonder Puff is amazing.
Shitty zipper no?
Just get the Crescent Down Works Down Sweater (60/40 Cotton/Nylon Shell). It is 100% worth the money.
The white jacket is too short, either you got the wrong size, or it is just a fashion product that does not keep you warm in winter. I own an Arc'teryx layering system, expensive but good and very flexible. Better to get a down jacket, and a separate shells. I do have a vest, a light down jacket, and a severe weather down jacket, plus a shell. I live in London and this winter I mainly used the light down jacket, sometime with the vest (also down). This was enough. In a few occasions I used the shell. Use a system of layers, it is much better, and everything packs small.
It’s one of their lightweight models. Crescent Down Works makes two different parka models that would’ve been a fair comparison. Michael weighs it so high because he likes the way it looks, but makes it look like a bad jacket because he compares a lightweight model to other brands parka jackets
Great video, surprised your
Manifattura ceccarelli fisherman parka didn't make an appearance
Isn't this Harris from Theo & Harris? Good to see his channel popping off
I miss you so much being Harris (or Theo) that I'm here now watching jackets ffs. Good stuff anyways.
Awesome recommendations! I need to try out a new down jacket, right now I just have a Wyndham Parka from CG but it's too warm lol
The orange one😍😍😍Kenny!
My favorite UA-camr, regardless of the topic.
Is Jöttnar not available in the US? Their down jacket has the best warmth to weight ratio I’ve ever encountered.
Man you need to do a review on the jottnar fjorm, and life labs mega warm jacket, as well as ubr titan parka. These three I will without exception, smash every other winter jacket in existence. I personally own the jottnar, will try mega warm next winter.
Me who lives in a tropical coastal city of Brazil that never goes below 21c during the coldest days: interesting.
Is Klattermusen on your radar at all? They have a down jacket called the Lopt that apparently has comparable if not better build quality than the Cerium or the Down Hoody while being more durable. Any word on this jacket?
Where is your sweater from?
It would be interesting to see you review the LifeLabs MegaWarm jacket. It claims to be the world's warmest jacket
Sorry I had to go halfway through this to watch the N&F livestream. You should drop by sometime, you are very well loved by the community. Also have you tried the new true guy fit? Its their new straight leg fit. I have one pair of jeans in true guy but might have to wash them hot. For some reason the sizing ran 3-4.5" larger than the tag size so my size 30s are 33" and I was a little late to the sale, but i don't think people looked at the sizing too closely before buying. Oh well. I love you Michael. Hope you are doing well and enjoying the business and remembering that its all good to work out. You already know its not gonna happen overnight, but you have a very good base of Snailiens to propel you into stardom. I honestly wish I could buy one of yr denim jackets cause i really want a type 3. I have a regular Levi's type 1 that was dark when i got it and its never been washed and it is fading quiet well. But I want so many things and i ran out of money. I'll be okay, ill find a contractor that wants me, I just got a few welding certs from night classes. So I'm trying to make myself more valuable in my trade as a sheetmetal worker. We're going to be fine. Once i secure a long-term position at a company, ill be a great customer and will do whatever I can to help you grow. Or even if i just work a few months ill be able to afford whatever yr selling. Now let's make it happen !!!
Need a Feathered Friends, RAB and Western Mountaineering puffy showdown
It's not as cool or trendy but as a Canadian I love my mountain hardware jacket. They are warm and durable. All the rest is superficial 😂
The last down jacket I got is a Kenzo. It's similar to the Patagonia in that it's nicely breathable but the styling is a bit more exaggerated.
I want a pair of those chords you're wearing so bad.
and the feathers will bleed out between the seams which i really hate. c.g. has a liner to prevent this issue from happening. i am talking about the crescent down work jacket.
Check out the US Military Extrem Cold Weather Jacket
ECWCS Gen. 3 Level 7... the short version!
Peter Shoening at 7:49 looks just like you!
No Manifattura Ceccarelli?
Those fragile puffer jackets are worthless in a wooded or heavy brush environment.
I got myself the north face mcmurdo Parka, i love it. Its the parka from last years episode i think
Glad to see i'm not the only one this interested in jackets, layering systems, etc. I've tried many over the years! Kuiu makes one of the best down jackets! Hydrophobic goose down. Simms makes some good jackets too like their guide insulated. Firstlite has some good insulation. Most primaloft is nice. Gortex is now getting thinner and much lighter. The newer stretch gortex materials are nice. But the arctyrx atom jacket is sweet! Soo much history in jackets! We have come a long way! Great video!
Those are some impressive ninja skills.
should i buy h&m 100% polyester jacket for -25°C ?????
I didn’t know you had your own channel Harris 😄
Why the f does he speak so fast i turned it down to 0.75 Speed and it sounded normal 😂
I’d love to hear what you think about moose knuckles parkas and their jackets
I really want an Arc teryx beta, gonna be my holiday purchase in 24.
You should look up feathered friends. Great jackets
Wait. I'm a 'Snailian"? I think that's the first time I've been called that. Pretty sure. Well as OJ says, if the glove fits, wear it or no no that's not right. If the shoe fits.... yes better.
Michael you and Taylor (or is it Tailor as a better fit with your fashion vibe?) need to move in with me here. I will rename my house 'The Shell' as that is what snails live inside I believe.
See you soon; I will freshen up the spare bedroom. We shall have such fun!
MIKE! I need your opinion on the almost FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR Nigel Cabourn Everest Parka.
The mammoth is measured in oz/linear yard. What are the oz/sq. Yard or GSM?
So a $700 down jacket you can see light through where the pockets of down are stitched, and can’t really wear in the woods… where you’d need a jacket😂. Right on
Moncler feeling real left out in this video
Arcteryx jacket just seems like throwing money into a lake unless you are planning to climb Mount Everest. While I personally prefer Fjallraven I think you should go with that white one. You like it the most and it will probably last you a lifetime as well.
It might last a lifetime, but it'll look gross in a year or two. White jackets are a no-no.
This type of jacket only lasts till you walk too blouse to a bramble or a random spark from a fire or in an urban area snag on a gate or someone’s car slipping between traffic
people who climb Mount Everest don't wear that jacket either
What's happening with Maniffatura Ceccarelli? Don't love it anymore?
Deck jackets?? Any suggestions?
Hey @theironsnail, what’s your height and weight? Trying to decide on jacket size. P.S. you are a cool guy.
Whaaaat! You pushed the preorder back 1 day. We were ready to order tomorrow
Theo, I didn't know you had your own channel.
What jacket are you wearing in the beginning of the video tho?
I actually quite enjoyed the British ( really pre 60s R.P. English ( I'm so pedantic ) ) accent. Cheers.
Almost EVERY jack you featured looked one size to small.
Loved the video though.
Are you the same guy on Theo and Harris the watch review channel?
Review Feathered Friends
Eos Men's Down Jacket
Hmm what are the name of the models of jacket that you tried here? Because saying “arc’teryx” whitout saying the specific model is like saying “Michelin” or “pirelli” for tires. There are about hundred models whit completely different specification.
Michaelle is looking warm today, stay cozy my friend
