Much ❤️ for Margaret! And she was right, the job of a straightman/woman is important. She was one of the best 😍
I may be under 30, but I'll never forget Margret Dumont. My all-time favorite comedy is A Night at the Opera. What a fantastic, stoic role to Groucho's a ntics
She was SPECTACULAR , and I think he may have been very generous in letting her hold so much of the spotlight ! they worked well together , all of them ! my favorite is when she opens the door of the cabin !
A Marx film wasn't complete if she wasn't in it.
My favorite exchange. She says it's a gala day for you . Groucho answers that's very good a gal a days about all I can handle !
She was beautiful! Great bone structure and a dazzling smile.
What a great Lady!!!
Always loved this lady. So sweet , so classy.
I always wondered about that lady. Now I know😊
Mrs. Claypool: All right! I’ll be at your stateroom at 11 o’clock!
Otis P. Driftwood: If you’re not I’ll come here at 11:05...with squeaky shoes on.
Margaret: "Closer... closer... closer...."
Groucho: "If I were any closer, I'd be in the back of you"
Actually, that was Esther Muir.
i thought sometimes you could see it in her eyes, not when she responded as an insulted person, but a glimmer just before, like she was having a tiny bit of fun
Watch her in the piano scene in "Animal Crackers": she's trying hard not to laugh.
And in terms of supporting her partner, watch her perfectly timed and expressed silent build to Groucho in the courtroom scene of "Duck Soup" - this is an actress who truly listens and knows how and how much to respond.
Her final appearance with Groucho, shot for a tv show just before her death, he comes right onstage and starts ad-libbing half his lines, and she's cracking up most of the time :)
She was wonderful!
She was always not as Groucho said ;’ Gets My Joke!’ But she knew more than Groucho knew !!!
She was a very talented and attractive lady.
Too cool...
Now I understand what Conan O’Brien’s mother sounded like.
They really tightened those costumes from revealing. LOL
Mrs. Claypool. Hello!
She would've made a
Great, Marple. A great looking, talented, woman.
It's all special effects now, isn't it? These people, relied
on their talents, & a good scripts, etc.
First of all, so called "Margaret Dumont" wasn't her real name. There was nothing wrong with her actual birth name, Daisy Juliette Baker. She obviously "sold out" her birth name because of the shallowness of the entertainment industry?! Most likely the change was made as the result of a greedy Business Manager or Studio, with perceived notions of greater recognition accompanied with monetary gains? Secondly and in reality, it's also shows blatant disrespect for one's parents & their family heritage, just to possibly obtain (not necessarily earn) a greater buck?!
You do not know ANYTHING about her childhood. REALLY!
I'm amazed that out of this entire presentation you took the time to type such ineffable twaddle as though your opinion matters one whit. They used her stage name, which was the name she was known by. Do you do this on every one of Groucho's videos, pointing out that his REAL name was JULIUS? 🙄Go bleat at someone else.
