I'd like to express my thoughts on where the VTuber community, and to some extent, the whole online animation community, seems to have gone wrong. I've always had a deep love for Japanese animation, MMD animation, and VTuber content. The online world, as we all know, is often filled with drama, and that's something I've come to expect. But what surprises me is that in a realm where artificial characters are the norm, you'd think there would be more acceptance and understanding that it's all fiction. Yet, time and again, I see the VTuber community plagued by just as much drama as the real world. People pour their hearts into creating unique characters, assets, and storylines, all artificially constructed. Very little of it has any connection to reality, apart from the person behind the camera, who remains unseen and often unheard in their true form. Yet, even in this fantasy world, drama seems to thrive. I came to the VTuber community, the MMD community, and the anime community as a means of escape from the drama and complexities of the real world. It's disheartening to see those same real-world issues seeping into these online spaces meant for escapism.
Blame the indie scene for that, honestly most of the drama stuff always seems to come from that section. (FYI I know that there are good indie vtubers out there but it's starting to feel like for every good one there's 10 bad ones that pop up.

Whenever I see or hear people complaining about things they don't like, I keep thinking of parents who get mad when their kids play violent games, watch action anime, etc.
i think any normal parent would rightfully be horrified if they saw their son viewing sexualized loli characters who are obviously meant to be children.
The parents about the violent games should just be arrested. They did technically commit a crime by complaining about the thing that was clearly rated not for children and they bought it anyway. That implies their child was not mature enough to consume the content making it their fault.

The sad part about all of this is that most of these twitter users who do this kind of shit more likely than not think they’re doing the right thing. I used to have a major problem with loli and loli-con stuff because it made me uncomfortable and it made my maternal instincts kick into high gear, which is dumb because I was getting that panic reaction from fictional characters. And I still feel kinda dumb for still feeling that way to a certain extent, but you helped open my eyes Rev. The reason why "it's a fictional character" is an argument is because no matter what you do, that character cannot be affected by you. Real children can be and are affected by the twisted thoughts and actions of real criminals, which is why comparing someone to such a criminal is watering down the term. By calling people who like or merely support things like lollies peds, you broaden the term, looping normal people with interests that don't align with yours with people who actually touch children. I'm disgusted that people use that term so lightly and then point blame at others for telling them how petty and unjustified it is.

I'd like to express my thoughts on where the VTuber community, and to some extent, the whole online animation community, seems to have gone wrong. I've always had a deep love for Japanese animation, MMD animation, and VTuber content. In fact, I'm even trying my hand at creating my own work in this field, though under a different name for privacy reasons.
The online world, as we all know, is often filled with drama, and that's something I've come to expect. But what surprises me is that in a realm where artificial characters are the norm, you'd think there would be more acceptance and understanding that it's all fiction. Yet, time and again, I see the VTuber community plagued by just as much drama as the real world.
People pour their hearts into creating unique characters, assets, and storylines, all artificially constructed. Very little of it has any connection to reality, apart from the person behind the camera, who remains unseen and often unheard in their true form. Yet, even in this fantasy world, drama seems to thrive.
I came to the VTuber community, the MMD community, and the anime community as a means of escape from the drama and complexities of the real world. It's disheartening to see those same real-world issues seeping into these online spaces meant for escapism.
Blame the indie scene for that, honestly most of the drama stuff always seems to come from that section. (FYI I know that there are good indie vtubers out there but it's starting to feel like for every good one there's 10 bad ones that pop up.
