To prevent damage to the tailgate when you have a hitch in, you can press and hold both buttons on the gate for about 5 seconds and that will disable the top button and it won't allow the top portion to swing down and hit the hitch. Press and hold both to deactivate.
Push the top button for 3 seconds it will lockout lowering the top portion of the gate. This prevents damage due to trailer hitch and ball. To undo, press tip button again for the seconds.
I just taken delivery of 2024 3500HD & have mixed thoughts about this tailgate. I've always left my hitch in, I have 4 different setups. The truck being so tall the multipro is needed, but useless with the hitch in......PIA. The fancy Kicker is included with the Ultimate package, it does not work. I've read sound quality is poor so I will probably only listen to once whenever it works.
I believe they fixed it with a sensor that when you put the ball hitch in it won't let the tailgate drop completely. It just opens like a regular tailgate
Just bought a 2023 GMC Sierra with the multipro tailgate. On 3 occasions, the tailgate has lowered itself inadvertently. Once in the driveway, once in a Home Depot Parking Lot and, yesterday, while we were making a slow U-Turn to the left after loading hay into the Horse Trailer. The top of the tailgate hit the trailer hitch which damaged it severely. Have you heard of this happening? The Driver's hands were on the wheel, however he had the Fob hooked to his belt and we are wondering how likely it would be for the Tailgate Button to have been hit, twice, in error if he leaned against it. AND, if so, I'm wondering why the tailgate does not have a safety feature to prevent this mistake from happening while the truck is in motion. We are heading into the GMC Dealer to discuss and schedule repair, later today......ADDITIONALLY, we bought the Denali with short bed and in this model, they made the bed deeper than the regular or long bed in order to provide more cubic foot storage space. Consequently, we cannot lower the tailgate while hitched to the horse trailer, even in the traditional tailgate position, because it's longer [deeper] therefore hits the hitch. Great video, btw. I wish we had watched this before shopping and buying.
I have been weighing on getting the 2022 Sierra AT4, I love this truck! Thank you for pointing out the hitch to tailgate!!!!! I usually leave my hitch ball on. Not a deal breaker. But will be pissed if I scratch dent or mess up the tailgate on the hitch
@@mikewells8403 I just wrote a lengthy comment above concerning our issues with the short bed tailgate. What a mess and we are not happy with ourselves for buying it.
I ordered a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500. The multi pro tailgate was included but I opted to get a regular tailgate and saved $400. To me, it's just a gimic. I have an 8-foot bed so no lumber issues and you can't rest anything heavy on the lower tailgate step. If I could have I might have gotten it. I also don't like the way it looks in the back with two separate pieces.
I"ll tell you right now, the 2022 refresh GMC 1500 uses a different connectors for the gate locks, so the CURT and similar lock out kits won't work and they have not made one for it yet, sadly
I see GMC designers have become stupider , since the 70s ! A 6 function tailgate has got to be the stupidest idea General Motors has ever came up with ! GM is turning into the laughing stock of the auto industry ! How about a 7 function glove compartment door and maybe a 8 function horn that has 8 different sounds and can squirt water at the car in front of it to make them move at red lights , and a hose for peeing in when you can’t stop .
This tailgate is another gimmicky , gadget for folks that extend their pinkie when drinking chamomile tea . What do you think a load of sand and gravel would do to it? Some Americans are suckers for gadgets . 🤪

These tailgates are just a gimmick. The amount of times you'll actually use its extra functions is minimal, and likely unnecessary, and after 5 years it probably won't work right anyways.

Got my 21 HD the other day and had no idea how to use the tailgate great video
how do you lock the tailgate?

What's the weight limit in it's normal form? I haul a two seater atv that sits on the tailgate

But you would still have steps on the side. As the great late Mitch Hedberg said, “escalators can never break, they can only become stairs”.
B&W make a hitch for the multipro tailgate.

I pressed the top button and it locked the whole tailgate and nothing worked. What’s with that. How do I unlock it. Thanks
Does the kicker speaker system come with every multipro tailgate or is that an aftermarket add on or just with the AT4?
No the kicker system is an add-on.
I like the top portion as a benchrest to use when gopher hunting. I have had no issues yet.
The multipro tailgate cannot power back up like a standard tailgate though. Why?

In canada its a 5g option. You should have saved a lot more then 400...

Got this truck last night lol. Thx for the info

Since I cargo my dirt bike in the bed of my truck I would use this multiple times per week. This is more than a gimmick. Well done GMC!
I literally use it weekly for work and would not give it up.
It’s an easy step into the bed though and the handle is great
I love the fact that I can step in out out of it so easily.....plus the bed extension helps a ton....GMC knock it out the park.
I use just about every function on this tailgate every time I use the bed of the truck. Very, very useful and convenient!
Can see the Bluetooth controls getting kicked to smithereens!
