The GTO needed to be more aggressively styled, and though it was based on a fairly conservative design, the HSV version demonstrated that it could be done. I was working at Holden during the GTO project, and some of the design proposals were amazing. A particular stand-out had 4 round headlights (predating Challenger) set into a retro grill, broken up by the Pontiac logo that led into a crease-line running the length of the hood, with scoops either side. Suprisingly however, the Americans insisted on the most conservative option, which I feel gave the car a jellybean quality. They wanted something that would fit in with the rest of their vehicle portfolio, rather than creating a standout design. The success of the Camaro, Challenger and Mustang that followed, proved that this was a flawed strategy.

Sometime in the early 2000's, Pontiac had released a concept image of a GTO redux that had stacked headlamps and a bowtie grill that was a huge homage to the classic 64 GTOs. It was a far more dynamic design than the watered down Holden we got.

I have an 04 and people still break their necks to look at it. There is nothing like it on the road today, but it still looks modern. The design is indeed timeless. I've seen some widebody kits on them and they all look ugly because it has a bubble butt, widebodies just don't fit with those bubble butt rear fenders. The car is already wide so it doesn't need a widebody kit. All the car needs is to be lowered a bit, add a front lip and the rear diffuser from 05, that's about it. It still is the best handling GM car that I've driven, its mainly because of the driver position to hood visibility, you can see the entire hood so you can calculate your steering better. Lots of cars don't have this and you have to get a feel for the car and learn the length of it, you cant actually see it like you can with the GTO. Corvettes suffer this badly. GTO is a great car, that people are still discovering today, too bad they only made so little of them. I'm part of a lot of GTO forums and groups and we see the crashed ones get listed for parts, we are slowly watching the numbers dwindling lol.

While this is an overall amazing redesign of the Pontiac GTO, which must've taken a lot of time, I still feel like it suffers from the same problem as it's predecessor.
The design, just like the 04' GTO, remains a bit conservative and not exactly aggressive. It looks something like a mix between a Grand Prix and a G8. But there's also something about the front portion that seems a bit off, seeming somewhat warped, but also reminiscent of the Pontiac Aztek.
Other than that though, I'd say you've done a pretty great job, but personally, I'd have added a spoiler on the redesign as the car seems a bit "nude" without it.

More elements (stacked headlights anyone?) from the 1st and 2nd Gen GTO would've been cool...at least lower the thing lol
Edit: still looks cool, great job with your blending and stretching skills, as well as getting your angles on spot!

The title might be a little clickbait. People will click on this video thinking that the Pontiac GTO is coming back when in actuality the video is about you just redesigning it on Photoshop. Naming it "I try to redesign the Pontiac GTO" would be perfect because that's what the video is about.
Other than that, great video. I always love your redesigns 👍

Your redesign looks really good my one complaint would be the hood, maybe reduce how much the vent pops out so that it's more in-line with the rest of the body. I've always seen the body of the 2004+ GTO's to be very smooth in transition from front to rear.

As a Pontiac fanatic I'm sad GM basically just put a noose around Pontiacs neck and said jump.
Dude that is awesome great work.
At the time of the gto and G8 sisters were coming to the U.S. I was hoping they would also send over the maloo as the G8 ST (sport truck) that was my poster car on my wall in middle/high school.

I bought an ‘05 new. Black on black 6sp.
Always been a GTO guy, and when the rumors that it was being reintroduced for ‘04 came up i was intrigued. I was very disappointed by the styling Of the ‘04..just like you said: very little to do with the heritage (one of the visual differentiators fir a ‘64 GTO from the tempest lemans it was based on was the hood scoops and every Goat Thereafter had them)
I gave the ‘05 another look because of the LS2/6sp manual option, but the new hood/dual exhaust styling upgrade were ‘good enough’ for me.
It was a hell of a good car. But some weird quirks that had to do with making the Aussie design hold up to US crash requirements. Fuel tank Moved in between the rear seat and trunk made the trunk tiny, for example.
I kept mine for 5 yrs.

Hood had dual scoops to mimic the original goats. The redesign should have included something based on that and definitely not the charger hood. Wheels were the 17" option. Nice render

You should do a 2008-2014 ford falcon fg, they are so common here in Australia and for what they are I reckon they deserve better lines, like a wide body kit
