Your house and the view is beautiful. I really admire your work ethic too. We are building a house with almost the same first floor plan as you except a little bigger but it is one story only. We are older and wanted a house where we would be able to wash windows and clean gutters without going up on huge ladders. We will have casement windows all around and all I have to do to clean them is crank them out and walk around the house. Gutters are easy to clean too. Current house is way too much work with high windows and gutters. However, everyone is different with regard how much maintenance they are comfortable with. We have tons of south facing windows which let in lots of light...they are just not high.
this project of a lifetime you have embarked is made more remarkable that you are doing thisTOGETHER --- this is the worth watching to show others they can live and work together -- so impressive ! ! !
I wish this build was atleast 5 years old so I could binge watch the series and see the fished results I'm excited for the outdoor work and yard work .. look great you guys :)
It's great that you can now get that high to do your windows. But in addition, I'd opt for a squeegee (with long AND short handles) to clean those windows. Less time, effort and streaks!
I had the same thought. I’d add a two sided bucket, window mop, and razor scraper (specifically for windows). A holster would be nice, but not necessary. All are available at most janitorial supply store. So much less work with a better outcome!
This is off topic but as I was watching, I was reminded of when we were doing the interior in our ICF house. We used finished plywood instead of drywall but it should be the same process, basically. We wanted a way to know where the plastic ties were once we had a sheet up on the wall, blocking our view of them. We used a sharpie to make marks on the subfloor and top plate, showing where each tie is, especially important where your commons seams are since they're not a standard distance from the corner, etc. Then we also used pieces of tuck tape to mark where wiring is so that we knew not to put nails there. When the board was in place and ready to be attached, we held a 2x4 against the wall on each sharpie mark as a guide for nailing straight lines. Happy building!! It looks great so far!
I know how long that list can be. That little bit of prep definitely made things so much easier. Good luck!! Haha, we get to do it again for our siding...
Crazy as it sounds I have family members that can find studs just by gently hitting the wall until they find it. It usually takes them just a minute or two.
@@KC-zn1mg It isn't crazy, I have seen many people do that. But in an ICF house, that isn't possible. The walls are over a foot thick of solid foam and concrete, so you don't have the ability to hear the pitch change as you could in a conventionally framed wood wall. Pre-marking the stud location is critical.
I got butterflies seeing how high that was! When cleaning the windows, that view must make it even more apparent of just how high you are!! Sorry about the floor, that really stinks!
That scaffolding is sweet! I really need something like that. Sorry about the hole in the floor, but for you and your talent, that's an easy fix! Thanks for sharing.
they also make squeegee with REEEEAAAALLLLY long poles that even have water jets you hook up to a hose ... i have a friend who has a window cleaning business ... so if you don't want to set up scaffolding there's always that.
Oh man! That goes high! I can see that will be useful. But you'd never see me on one. Terrified of heights! Thanks for sharing & looking forward to drywall! Yay! ❤
I started watching your channel back in March to see how to store food and make a prepper pantry - then I got hooked! Can't wait to see you start making it look like a home.... (from the UK)
Yep I own 2 pair of them,1 I bought 1 about 15 years ago the other I bought like 2 years ago and already replaced the old platform once and it needs it again there slick and easy to put together !!
Over 40 years ago I worked as a scaffold builder. It seems to me that what you have will do the job as required for your needs. We used to erect somewhat similar scaffolding that seem to have been much stronger and also easier to put together. I haven’t kept up with the materials available today, but I wonder if the value of the dollar has cut the quality if the material that much? Just an old mans thinking out loud.
I am so excited for ya'll! getting closer and closer, pretty soon Jamie will be showing us good canning recipes again!! Yea! Jamie I got 15 baby chicks that will be here July 23rd so I been binge watching your videos on chickens. You are one brave soul to get on that (what ever it is) lol. Such I beautiful view,
Could you build a wooden "catwalk" about 30" wide w/ railing from the loft over to those big windows.. in front of the windows build another kind-of narrow 3-4ft wide "widow's walk" or loft or lounge w/railing to look out from or read and relax. Then you can use that area to clean the windows
Thanks for the video! That full three-section scaffolding just looks way too high for me. I can see it shaking when you were up there. You are definitely braver than I am!
Looks intriguing, and I'd like something one layer up, with the guard railing system, to do the periodic preservation of the south facing logs here. Definitely something I'm going to investigate! (Wonky knees, so I will require railings on any scaffolding I'd use...)
Holy Acrophobia, Batman! Practical, functional, multi-purpose, and easy assembly. Cool! Now, where to store the darn thing! 😬😲😨 (I'm sure you've got that figured out). 👍👊💪😊😍
HI, I have to say that looks nice scaffolding, I was surprised the people who installed your windows did not use a scaffold tower, much easier to work of rather than a plank between two ladders (illegal in the UK for decades). The thing with your scaffold, I was puzzled why there is nothing keeping the scaffold together. I know it has the bracing but if I was 18' up that tower It would give me a bit more confidence. Glad to see you are making such great progress, unlike the two at PLFL who are years into building a house and have got hardly anywhere.
I love the windows. My husband, being the cave dweller by nature that he is, would be wearing sunglasses in the house, LOL. Your oops looks like something I'd do, yep, I'd so do that! Fixable, of course, but yeah, you just have to head-slap yourself at times. Can you come do my windows? J/K! Have a great week! ~Cynthia
Not me! I'm scared of heights. For the outside, I would have to attach a squeegee to a very long poll and then rinse at the end with the the hose attached. Only squeegee for the inside and hope for the best. Remind me to never have windows way up high.
THAT is high! and it still looks like you can not reach the peak. I,ve had to work in boom lift at 30 ft. and I would not release both hands at the same while working. It was one arm/hand at a time. I know in reality it would make no difference to what ever was to happen, I just could let go! I still got the job done. Are you going to have contractors do the wall board at the peak? Best Wishes- you are doing a great job getting this home built.
WOW Jeremy that's nice scaffolding and it sure puts you up in the roof section adequately. Did you drop a piece as you were assembling it? That hole in your floor is unnerving your sub floor seems a bit under sized a bit? I don't know if 3/4" sheets would be any better or not? Hope you and Jamie are well around the homestead there.. your girls too. Have a week. catch ya on the next video.
Looks like you're STILL going to need more to reach the peak. Looking good guys, and in a way I'm surprised that panel drop is the only damage to the subfloor!

What's the height of the peak of the ceiling ? I was thinking about a drywall lift , but they only go to 15 ft max . Anyways good luck looking forward to seeing upcoming videos .
I wonder, did Northern Tool decide to get you this before, or after, you guys did the very tall windows? I was just wondering... Either way, you will surely use them in the future! Semper Fidelis

That and they have the equipment to get the sheet rock up to the ceiling safely and they have to carry insurance. That is not a two person job! Dangerous!
I'm surprised that there isn't provision for some connecting sections that fit just above the castors, to structurally tie the base ends to cover the minute possibility of the end base frames splaying.
I’m surprised it only made an 8” gash. A 6’ steel framed plywood deck falling 18’ and landing on the corner. Regular OSB would have exploded and the deck would be in the basement.

I punched a hole in my advantec floor, maybe not quite as big as you did. Since I have some scrap pieces, I'm going to glue a piece of scrap on the bottom side and add some screws. It should be fine.

Wow that was awesome. The scaffolds look great!
Whew! Too high for me! You and Jamie do amazing work!

House is starting to look amazing; haven't been following the build closely, but you've made a lot of progress.
Wow! Are y’all getting excited about the progress? It’s all looking fabulous!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good idea! We rented once but it was a hassle. Better to have your own. Windows don't show dirt that fast.

Nifty neato scaffolding that’s going to come in so handy. Yaaaay👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I was thinking the same thing. There is lots of space up there where heat will go , ceiling fans will help.
Great, Can't wait next.
Sweet! Floor... not the end of the world. At least it wasn't a window...
I think you made a wise investment in the scaffolding. Great progress on the build, too.
The house is coming along nicely
That hole is the reason for the scaffolding. The impact of falling that far would be much more costly than the price of the scaffolding.
PUT THE STAR ON YOUR 15 FT X-MAS TREE
Thanks for the video! That full three-section scaffolding just looks way too high for me. I can see it shaking when you were up there. You are definitely braver than I am!
I think you should just leave it up and decorate it lol thats a lot of work to wash some windows!
My four year old thinks you need a cherry picker in your llama (what he calls the living room). He informs me it would make an awesome sofa 😂

Good question and that was the first I asked myself :-) Remember: Don't look down!

The subfloor is 3/4” Advantech. The deck fell 18’ and landed squarely on the corner.
Yes, I’m sure your framer is watching and thinking, “ugh.” 😂 I had figured y’all would use a long squeegee. This is better. Congratulations!
Thanks, good video. I just bought the 12 foot version of that system after watching your video.
Looks like you're STILL going to need more to reach the peak. Looking good guys, and in a way I'm surprised that panel drop is the only damage to the subfloor!

Baker scaffold also make great storage shelves
I was thinking... but it wont work for the outside windows... but I forgot you are going to have a porch!
Outside windows you use a hose and a cleaning agent. Lol.
A extender pole would have bin cheeper are you going to put that together when the house is done on the new floors

Are you going to put fans in that big open area to move the air/ or would it block the view for the windows?
There will be a fan or 2

Nice deal...except for the floor booboo. Definitely worth getting the tiers. Goodness be careful up there!💖
When you have your deck on. Long pole washers!!
Come on now, most people know dirt almost never gets to that elevation. ;)
Raymond Bloomer Even if it did, you wouldn’t be able to see it! 😂😂😂
That would be my luck drop the deck and break the floor. Actually I would of fallen through the floor with it lol.
a great choice for cleaning the windows you can use two-part epoxy to fix that hole in the floor

Norwex!
For the windows
And a handy workbench when not in use.
I would have advised a Telewash system. A long pole. Osmose water cleaning the windows. Much easier then building a scaffold every time.

Oopsy. Lol. Fixable.
Card board is great to use in your yard. The card board blocks the weeds. Put a layer of soil, compost, etc and plant your stuff on top...
Many card boards are treated against rot and mold. Some contain formaldehyde. Wouldn't want that in your garden.
