This whole Godzilla Minus One and Monsterverse Godzilla Civil War that’s been going for a while is just ridiculous. For the last 70 years, Godzilla is the most versatile character ever created. From being a force of destruction to being a hero who fights monsters. Hell, the Showa era built the foundation of Godzilla because of him fighting other monsters. I’m sure most of you people enjoyed the Monsterverse years ago, but because one movie won an Oscar and deservingly so, now you wanna act like you’re “TOO GOOD” for this? It just feeds into the same tribal BS from people on social media who wanna act like they know what is or isn’t considered “GOOD CINEMA”. It’s annoying and infuriating.
Exactly fcking exactly minus one made people big brained and annoying it’s not like the first time Godzilla was serious shin Godzilla return of Godzilla GOJiRA the original etc. Godzilla was fun in Showa era . People saw a Oscar for minus one and talk out they ass
Speaking as a big Godzilla fan (seen every movie and grew up with Showa era as a kid) - I don't understand why asking for a decent human story is mutually exclusive to "dumb popcorn fun". And besides that I don't think the action is all that great in this. It just feels like a CGI fuck fest. There's no sense or scale like Godzilal 2014/KOTM. The camera moves all over the place and nothing feels like it was actually filmed. It does nothing for me. At least with Showa era they used miniatures and practical elements so it had a certain charm
She knew the language already cause she was studying it because her daughter came from the same tribe. They did explain this. Also they didn’t leave hollow earth for the power arm it was in the outpost in hollow earth.
This movie was a blast! It's everything fans have been demanding, especially Showa fans, we knew most critics would be sour on it before the first trailer dropped, and we don't care! Even the human plot is a nod to Mothra vs. Godzilla fans. I hope the director gets to complete his trilogy. Give us ALIENS!
You know...the director, Adam Wingard basically said, "Why CAN'T A big ape and a big lizard be characters?" It's a film so it utilizes every art form. Just because they're CGI and don't "speak", doesn't mean they aren't characters.
They're better characters than the humans. When the humans are on screen they have to talk for the benefit of the audience understanding why shit goes down. When the monsters are on screen, it's all hands on deck for the mocap, the CG animators, the foley/sfx artists, and the music composers to get the same information across with basically 0 spoken dialogue.
I think the film is too afraid to go full fantastical. They go for it but pull back, they have an underground tribe that are telepaths but all that really means is that they don't talk, they don't even sign! Or more work with the dai kaiju that live on the surface.
People won’t give this film credit, but there was a lot of just non dialogue in the film, and you had to figure out what was going on based on their grunts and mannerisms, which was easy enough, but it was nice to not have a human come in and explain what was happening with the conversations
I like that Godzilla gets no character development. Because his character is he fights other giant monsters and then goes back into the ocean. There's no identity crisis there.
To be fair, Rebecca Hall's character would be able to read those ancient texts easily because it's the same tribe as her adopted daughter and the same tribe that was on Skull Island with Kong. So she would have studied the language to better understand Kong and that culture
Yeah I thought they made it clear that she was leader of the Kong research team explaining how she was able to read those texts, but you know people hate “exposition dumps.”

Alot of people seem to take these things quite personally. It's as if someone said " oh you disagree with how I feel about this well that makes you d●mb". I can see if they actually called you d●mb that would be personal. Those of us who aren't sheep/followers don't get mad about these types of disagreements because we know everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We expect people to respect that because that's what we do. These behaviors are absolutely outta control on social media. It's weird.

@@princetriton1308 Last I've heard, Tartakovsky wants to turn it into an anthology series, so more episodes akin to the Darwin one in Victorian London and less about a single story...
How is there too many sub plots? The humans go there to help kong, they find the surviving iwi, which deals with jia. Thats ALL it is. Thats not THAT Much
Facts. First they complained about human characters not having enough substance but when they try to there’s “too many subplots” like which one is it? Lol
@J2erren those two aren't mutually exclusive. For example, minus one was a super simple plot, but each human character was richly developed. So I think I get where they're coming from.
I gotta admit, I'm glad that everyone is enjoying the movie, but it does bug me that so many reviewers are calling it dumb. It's not dumb. I had seen many reviews before going see the film and I kept waiting for something dumb to happen but it never did. There wasn't a single thing in this movie that didn't make sense within the context of the Monsterverse.
I'm tired of movie critics that use the same criteria to judge a movie whether its an arthouse Oscar contender versus a movie that's meant for mass appeal. That like comparing a 12 course tasting menu at a fine dining experience versus ordering a combo meal at a drive thru McDonalds. They are two completely different experiences and should be judged differently. I watched GxK New Empire this past Thursday on IMAX because I wanted to see kaiju battle and stomp each other. At the same time, I also enjoyed Godzilla Minus One last year.
The bit with the Kaijus destroying world monuments and Godzilla not wanting to mess with Christ the Redeemer should be a youtube shorts highlight from this review lol
I saw this in 4DX and it was one of the greatest cinematic experiences I’ve ever had. Imagine riding the Kong attraction at Universal for 2 hours with better 3D more comfortable seats and a HYPE audience.
People say this movie did too much, but I think it did too little. Godzilla’s new form and Kong’s glove weren’t utilized as much as they should have, and the monsters, while plentiful, were shockingly brief.
@@kiloundacova3014 Most of it was good. My main issue: The lack of military involvement (Didn't they have a massive mech in the precious movie? (but in this movie a small group is allowed to go the most dangerous place on earth with an old fat guy with a gun as protection).
Its fascinating how WB spend millions trying to make a serious godzilla movie and 10 years later they made Godzilla vs kong and this one, like they gave up and then comes Minus One with a budget of 20 mil and wins an oscar XD
What I have learned after seeing these franchises make more movies is that at the end of the day it’s for the kids. Like seeing how excited the kids got in the theater with their plush toys warms my heart. Cause I remember being there too. They will keep the franchise going for another 70yrs
What's your point? I own all of the Godzilla movies and some people want to talk about "dumb stuff" in the Legendary movies..There are far worse things in the Toho movies. There are literally 3 Toho movies that have a message out of over 30. Final Wars was in no universe good, from awful CGI, weird suit less power rangers, 30 second fights for 90% of the movie. On top of dancing Godzilla, flying using his breath, a giant lobster, Jet Jaguar, kidnapped by aliens, was mind controlled by aliens, had an entire island of Japanese in blackface with their berry juice, flying Kong all the way to Japan using balloons, god damned Minya. Dumb and Godzilla are two things completely tied together. Some people seem to think that every movie needs to be Shakespeare. Movies are allowed to just be entertaining, they don't have to always deliver some sort of message. I cannot stand the thought of those Hobbit movies, never seen 1 frame of any of them unless it was a trailer on tv. I know they're not for me and, I don't want them to cater to me, some movies just aren't for everyone. Anyone looking for Shakespeare should just stay away from Godzilla movies, Toho or Legendary.
The 98 Godzilla was one of the only monster movies that had human characters worth caring about...the boring, annoying and incredibly stupid humans in most of these movies are a complete waste of time...that movie did at least get that part right
See the problem is that Warner Brothers try to make a serious Godzilla movie and in a way it failed because American audience wanted more Godzilla and according to critics and audience, they wanted more Godzilla now they gave them that in king of the monsters, but again the audience didn’t Like the characters and also listen, be honest, the whole fighting at night stuff was not helping The last four movies 14:16 , both audience and critics agree aThe human parts were the the worst part, so they just focus more on the monsters now doing monster shit I believe the reason Japan and Toho are able to make their human characters, relatable or good is because Godzilla is their a baby but also Godzilla is supposed to be a metaphor for things that actually happened to them in their history but yet again, Godzilla has proven that you could go in either direction just through his history alone even before these American movies, Godzilla was doing some crazy shit we had Godzilla movies with time travel, Godzilla, fighting aliens, Godzilla teaming up which was basically the power rangers magazord I think let the Japanese make the series Godzilla movies because clearly they’re good at it let us make the high budget Godzilla movies of the 70s and 80s. It’s a win-win scenario if they don’t like the goofy stuff that’s great that Japan give them the serious stuff and some people like, the goofy stuff that’s great too if you like both, you just hit the jackpot as a Godzilla fan
When going to the most dangerous place on Earth (filled with millions of giant carnivorous beasts)...be sure your team of 5 has 1 fat old man with a gun to protect you. (sarcasm)
Yeah no kidding. I'm a big Star Wars fan but Attack of the Clones reaches depths of cringe that even Godzilla couldn't swim to. I PHYSICALLY cringed at some of that rancid dialogue in AOTC but I didn't cringe at all to this. I think the cringiest stuff in the Monsterverse was some of the dialogue in King of the Monsters (mostly Bradley Whitford). And that wasn't THAT bad..

This film is the quintessential “dude…it’s” movie. When someone criticizes the film, just say “dude…it’s [insert film title] and you’ll win the argument 😂
There’s this one scene in Cairo where we see Kong just walking that I found really cool. Then we see Godzilla take a pool dive to the ocean and I thought that was cool. The scene in Rio when the beach water turned into ice because Shimo was coming was very cool too. It’s basically similar to another scene in the new Ghostbusters movie. Did you notice when we see Godzilla ready to face Kong in Cairo that Godzilla was much slimmer than he was in the earlier scenes before he got the pink dorsal plates? The earlier scenes, he was still the same size and color as he was in the 2019/2021 films even though we see him jump high and come down like a raptor. It’s like he went through some Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig because he was getting ready for his running scene. Godzilla performs a SUPLEX to Kong. 😂 That’s the level of smart writing this movie has. Godzilla seems very ungrateful. Like hey man, thanks for saving me from Mechagodzilla. Instead, he went straight for the fight. It’s Big G’s way of saying hello or thanks to Kong. I did giggle when Godzilla performs a suplex knowing he has shorter arms and smaller hands. You can tell though that the giant apes really have no shot against the giant lizard dinosaurs with stuff coming out of their mouths. Godzilla and Shimo are just so much bigger and stronger than the two apes. Kong punches Godzilla several times with the BEAST glove and Godzilla isn’t knocked out cold at all. But the real fun was seeing Shimo grab Kong and twirl him around. All the giant apes have are weapons to use against the giant lizards which the giant lizards can easily break. Now Grace Randolph ranked her favorite kaijus and isn’t into this Godzilla stuff. She even chose Kong over Godzilla in the 2021 movie because Kong went (and died) in NY and she’s from there. But Grace surprisingly picked Shimo as her favorite kaiju from this movie. Shimo is definitely a big girl. Her longer length and height over Godzilla was very obvious. But I guess she’s a good girl all along if she wasn’t enchanted by Skar King. Perhaps the disappointment from Skar King was he wasn’t as badass as people thought he would be from the trailers. The ending with Suko smashing that ice blade thing gave similar vibes to Arya killing the Night King. It felt like a cheap ending. Skar King should’ve won at least one fight against Kong and maybe knock out Godzilla even once. But Godzilla easily handled that whip he had and broke it. Skar King really had no shot once Shimo got out of her trance. Then he still had Mothra, Queen of the Monsters, to worry about. That’s 1 vs. 3 in Rio and Skar King is the smallest among that four and with a broken weapon thanks to Godzilla. There are only two things Godzilla does in these MV movies. Fighting or sleeping. I don’t even see him eat like Kong does. Man, these kaijus really have no concern for human life aka collateral damage. Kong needs to go back to Hollow Earth and Godzilla needs to join him. MV Godzilla is supposed to protect Earth but then thousands of people will die in Rome, Cairo, and Rio by just taking walks around those cities. Like damn, dudes. F you two! Go somewhere else and fight over there. 😂 It was a fun movie at least towards the end. But the disappointment comes from maybe Skar King not being menacing enough. The fight scenes weren’t all that. Very little time for Tiamat. Godzilla being secondary again to Kong for screen time which wasn’t surprising since he’s hardly shown in his own movies. Maybe 10-15 minutes tops? And the cheap finale with Suko doing an Arya. If we do get more MonsterVerse movies with more dumb kaijus beating the living shit out of each other, I would love to see the bond Kong has with Shimo. I didn’t expect them to join forces in the final scene. That’s the only surprising thing I saw. I thought Shimo would go on her own somewhere else. Kong and Shimo alliance was not something I expected to see at the end. Godzilla seems to be more of an asshole when it comes to team ups and making alliances unless it’s with Mothra. He’s the loner who only sleeps and fights. The only way Kong could defeat Godzilla in a fight is to grab a supersized Stormbreaker and aim for the head. That’s it. Even punches to the face with a BEAST glove didn’t knock down Godzilla unconsciously. Not that Godzilla is UNKILLABLE. We’ve had several versions of Godzillas and he’s lost fights and has been killed before in his movies. But this MV Godzilla seems very difficult to beat. I wish MonsterVerse teamed up with McDonald’s and make Happy Meal toys for the kaijus in this movie. Did you see the toys of Godzilla and Kong in this movie? Brian Tyree Henry’s character had one of Kong hanging and another one for Godzilla but seen from behind while recording his podcast. That’s a nice touch like seeing the Minus One crew hold a Minus One Godzilla toy while receiving their Oscars. That’s part of the allure of Godzilla: TOYS. Kong looks like Harry in Harry and the Hendersons. The 1987 movie and the short-lived sitcom of Harry and the Hendersons from the early 90s. Kong looks so cuddly in this movie that it makes me want to hug him if he was shrunken to a normal sized gorilla and not the 337 feet he is where his hands would just crush me if he closed them. I would still buy a toy of Skar King even though the writers gave him a cheap death scene as if he was a red shirt in Star Trek. I mean, c’mon, Shimo loses her trance and then freezes SK after Godzilla hit SK like a baseball ⚾️ with his tail that Kong pitched/kicked to him. The fight became lopsided once Shimo was out of her spell. This was spoiled in the final trailer. Kong already had SK by the neck with his BEAST glove before Shimo froze him. SK looks so cool from the trailers and walks like he’s Tupac but then gets the weakest ending and death scene. Where was the huge threat from SK? And his army was getting stopped by Mothra in that floating / no gravity scene. Seemed like nothing was ever at stake. He couldn’t even beat Kong after he injured his left hand. I would be down for a prequel series of Skar King on Apple TV+ and watching him kill people and other apes. They did Skar King wrong here. I really wish I got more out of Shimo but she got relegated to being Skar King’s Rancor for most of this movie. His pet slave. She’s also like Yoshi where you can just ride on her back. A horse lizard. It’s Donkey Kong riding on the back of a White Yoshi and with Diddy Kong (Suko) on the shoulder of Donkey Kong. Nintendo!! Woo-hoo! I would still get a toy of Shimo. Maybe a smaller toy for Skar King and Shimo. The entire scene of Jia returning to her people was a big waste of time. Godzilla x Kong is 75% of nonsense from humans and the other 25% WWE kaijus. I do wonder how big their shits are? That triceratops in Jurassic Park had one big pile of shit. Imagine the shits Godzilla and Shimo have? Like a three-story building of shit. Here’s a question..what would I choose between Jurassic Park (1993) or whatever is the best/fav film from Godzilla or Kong? I would pick Jurassic Park. While Godzilla and Kong would slaughter every dinosaur in those movies, the original Jurassic Park is the ultimate monster movie with those monsters being dinosaurs. I was on the edge of my seat when I first saw Jurassic Park in the theater. I would pick it over Godzilla Minus One and King Kong ‘05. To Godzilla fans, what type of story or character development do you expect from Godzilla if you thought Kong took up most of the screen time like he did in the previous movie? I knew Kong had to carry the story because he’s the most human-like being an ape. What does Godzilla do in most of his previous movies? Destroy shit or fight other titans. That’s all he really does. In MonsterVerse, if Godzilla is not sleeping, he’s fighting. That’s all he does in his movies. Go back to KOTM or the 2014 movie, was there a moment where you felt sorry for Godzilla? Nah, because it’s frickin’ Godzilla. He’s practically invincible. It’s like feeling sorry for how powerful Superman is. 😂 Kong is a big ugly ape and Godzilla is a big ugly reptilian dinosaur. Don’t expect Marlon Brando and Al Pacino performances coming out of them when neither one can talk to the audience. Where MV failed to improve are the human characters. But a lot of us don’t care about that. It’s similar to going into a Jurassic Park/World movie. We don’t care about the humans. We want to see dinosaurs spook us. Godzilla can mean a lot of things to people. He can be serious, he can be campy like the Showa era ones. There’s no right or wrong on how to enjoy Godzilla. I’ll watch Godzilla x Kong again but I’m fully aware it’s not art. This is not a masterpiece of cinema. It’s closer to a big pile of shit of that sick triceratops in Jurassic Park if Godzilla, Kong, and the other kaijus weren’t so appealing to watch fight. Let them fight!!
Hey DT. Watched the movie last night. It was awesome! The introduction to the Skar King was the most funniest moment of the whole film. It briefly turned Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire into a hood movie 🤣🤣🤣

This is why Hollywood usually don't listen to the audience because we'll never all agree on anything it's sad really how hypercritical & hypocritical alot of these critics are

I agree with Korey that while the subplot can be too much, and a little dumb, I still had a fun time seeing it in the Dolby on Friday.

I completely agree! I had a great time and so did my nephew. ❤
I fell asleep. Minus One is superior
The Director said he wants Destroyah as the villain for the next movie
Godzilla did say to Kong to never pull up again.
The humans were singing that song, "gotta keep 'em separated."
All that's left for the modern Godzilla movies to do is have aliens show up with a space monster.
Godzilla already fought a space monster in King of the Monsters
Space Godzilla would be a nice addition to the Monsterverse
@@feefore1605 yeah, but I was thinking more along the lines of Gigan, being controlled by aliens.
Perhaps a very specific space monster with his name in it, hmm?
We need Gamera the Kaiju turtle 🐢 introduced in the Monsterverse.
Kong be like: POCKET SAND!
Took a page out of Rickety Cricket’s book
Those "silly" monster shows and movies have heart and soul like rarely any CGI ever came close too.
In the end Kong adopted a son and a more powerful partner .Big G just takes over the Roman Coliseum .
Yeah really they gave Kong an army and a mount and a sidekick, and Godzilla gets nothing? What is that?

I think Korey and Martin forgot that the lost tribe were an offshoot from the tribe on Skull Island.
I really don't understand why some people get upset when reviewers/critics don't like the movies they like. I had a lot of fun with this movie and thought it was great and the fact that Korey and Martin don't share my opinion doesn't bother me at all
Alot of people seem to take these things quite personally. It's weird.
Ikr. Every person has a right to criticism for anything, especially in film. I’m not going to have the opinions dictate my experience watching the film soon
Same i love it but this dumb thing is not for everyone
I think it's because a lot of Godzilla fans feel like the critics/reviewers aren't treating the movies fairly.
@@cordyceps182That's a they problem. Critics aren't giving movies a pass because they are fun, they are judging the quality of the film.
Even GvK was a dumb ass movie. I had fun with it one time, at the theater, and enjoyed my time. But it is not a good movie. At all.
So I think if most serious people can admit the new movie is bad, it probably is bad. But fun.
Godzilla and King Kong like Roddy Piper and Keith David in They Live… fighting before they team up lol

I'm fully ready for the next Monsterverse film to embrace a style like Tartakovsky's Primal, barely any dialogue and yet, insanely emotional storylines and pure gonzo action scenes.
I'm hoping we get a season 3 but I'm not sure what they really could do with it from.where they left off

Same.
You’re amazing
I'm tired of movie critics that use the same criteria to judge a movie whether its an arthouse Oscar contender versus a movie that's meant for mass appeal. That like comparing a 12 course tasting menu at a fine dining experience versus ordering a combo meal at a drive thru McDonalds. They are two completely different experiences and should be judged differently. I watched GxK New Empire this past Thursday on IMAX because I wanted to see kaiju battle and stomp each other. At the same time, I also enjoyed Godzilla Minus One last year.
Godzilla said: I TOLD YOU, ON SITE🗣️🗣️
To be fair to the movie, they explain pretty much everything in the movie. Well, aside from why Skar King got the kongs pushing rocks. 😂
Those weren't kongs. Skar kings tribes are chimps . Kongs are gorillas both great apes but diffrent

Bro me being up here is just a prank, it’s a prank bro!
Skar King be like “King Kong Ain’t Got S**T on me!”
Godzilla: how many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man???
People say this movie did too much, but I think it did too little. Godzilla’s new form and Kong’s glove weren’t utilized as much as they should have, and the monsters, while plentiful, were shockingly brief.
What was sad is after seeing all the other chimps and half-bred chimps, we learn why the villain is called Scar King.
Pretty sure Scar King was little Kong's daddy.

It’s crazy how often they dunk on the 98 Godzilla movie and have never seen the movie where the OG Godzilla kicks his ass in under 30s…to Sum41

See the problem is that Warner Brothers try to make a serious Godzilla movie and in a way it failed because American audience wanted more Godzilla and according to critics and audience, they wanted more Godzilla now they gave them that in king of the monsters, but again the audience didn’t Like the characters and also listen, be honest, the whole fighting at night stuff was not helping
The last four movies 14:16 , both audience and critics agree aThe human parts were the the worst part, so they just focus more on the monsters now doing monster shit I believe the reason Japan and Toho are able to make their human characters, relatable or good is because Godzilla is their a baby but also Godzilla is supposed to be a metaphor for things that actually happened to them in their history but yet again, Godzilla has proven that you could go in either direction just through his history alone even before these American movies, Godzilla was doing some crazy shit we had Godzilla movies with time travel, Godzilla, fighting aliens, Godzilla teaming up which was basically the power rangers magazord I think let the Japanese make the series Godzilla movies because clearly they’re good at it let us make the high budget Godzilla movies of the 70s and 80s.
(sarcasm)

This movie was far far far more entertaining then Artack of the clones Martin. Your inner child may have died.

Looks pretty damn fine to me
@@CocainBuzz I agree.
The critics have unrealistic expectations for a movie like this. It’s a giant gorilla fighting a giant lizard.
Kong was like : “Godzilla. Chill bro!”
It was a fun movie at least towards the end.

So they altered course with Godzilla vs Kong now some are bitching they want the darker more serious element back lol.
This is why Hollywood usually don't listen to the audience because we'll never all agree on anything it's sad really how hypercritical & hypocritical alot of these critics are
Because the people that wanted the serious elements DON'T like the goofy elements. Those are two different sides of audience, not a massive hivemind. Find the actual people being contradictory about it and take it up with them.

I preferred MechaGodzilla, Ghidorah & Rodan from the previous films as the villains more than Skar, but still, he had his moments where I was like that was cool.
