I left my calling as a teacher in 2016. Kidney disease was my exit strategy. This is telling about how awful teaching became in my 25 years in the profession. I prefer dialysis three times a week to the top-down administrative business model! I was an awesome teacher but I was always In trouble" because I cared about my students! I really resent the way the business model destroyed my profession!

I left 2 years ago and it was extremely hard, but needed. I am now in healthcare and I'm happier every single day than when I taught.

I also had panic attacks going into work as a teacher. I am so glad I left. Funny part is my job now is “supposed” to be a way more stressful job. But man I’d take it any day. Also I would still have nightmares about teaching.

Hi Nessa, thank you for sharing your story with us. A similar thing happened to me as well. Back in 2021, I joined this research firm and it was going well for a while until it stopped being the kind of environment I wanted to be in. I started having panic attacks like you and broke down crying at my workplace. I finally put my foot down last year in April and decided to quit the job. Thankfully, I got a next job within a couple of months. But yeah, you did the right thing quitting..mental health comes before anything else. I'm so happy that you're in a better space. I wish you all the best for job hunting. Keep us updated! 💜💜

Student behavior is often horrible cuz of the breakdown of the family. Many children are not civilized. They run the building as there are little to no consequences for inappropriate behavior. It's humiliating and degrading for teachers.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Stepping away from something that’s become toxic is actually a brave thing to do. When you’ve invested time, money and passion in one route starting on a new path can feel like failure but it sounds like you’ve given it your all. Just think how great your next venture will be now you’re free of a burden that was clearly dragging you down! I don’t normally comment online but this video really struck home as I quit teacher training in the UK after only a few months during which I found that (in my view) the pupils were merely a means to achieve government ratings and the levels of violence in the classroom. The only skill I emerged with is that I am fully trained in extensively debating the difference between hoop and stud earrings to petulant teenagers! All the best to you both!

I actually almost went to teach in the UK after graduating but something opened up here first, but it doesn't surprise me the similarities between the two. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, I'm both nervous and excited to see what's next and if I never have to go back into another classroom again I'll definitely be a whole lot happier.

YOU are a strong, beautiful, caring and talented woman! I’ve been there like you with more than one employer…until I couldn’t. I use to train tellers ages ago, and found that rewarding. I wanted to teach like you, but it’s very challenging as you expressed. You are so well spoken, calm, thoughtful and easy to relate too. My own dreams were never fulfilled. If I were you, I would look into owning your own business in delivering a subject matter that would be in high demand for corporations, small businesses or school districts. You would be great at being a motivational speaker for other teachers out there that are experiencing the same issues and concerns you have encountered. Well, I know you will land on your feet and find what makes you happy and spread that awareness and knowledge to others. Best wishes and warm regards 😊

I'm also in Canada and have seen some news recently about teachers being mistreated and abandoned by the school boards. I'm not sure if that applies to you, but our education systems definitely need a change because education should not be political. Hoping all the best for you and I'm curious what the job scam was, so would love a video on that.

Good for you Nessa for recognizing what you had to do to make your life better. That is how we grow and open ourselves to bigger and better things that life has to offer. You are so right…politics has gotten in the way of education .
I just KNOW that you will find a great job because of your
    1.personality,
    2..your education
    3. your organizational skills,
and your very many other talents
I know someone like you will just keeps growing, developing and blossoming.
This entire world is totally messed up right now, but there are still very good things and great people out there who believe in old fashioned moral values and keeping our quality of life. I just know in my heart you will find that right employment match for your continued development with the next steps in your career. You have a God given gift that people cannot ever be taught ……and that is the gift of high moral standards, hard work ethics and just plain believing in doing the right thing! . Those characteristics are much more important than anything anyone could ever learn from a book. Nessa, you will go far in life. Any employer should be grateful to find someone like you to represent them. Wishing you all of the very best! You did the right thing as as they say….”when one door closes another one opens” keep that beautiful big smile of yours going…THAT !! is what is truly contagious.
    👍🏻🙂❤🐶❤

I have heard that behavior /classroom management has gotten bad. My kids go to. A private school and I hear certain classes are bad. It scares me for the future. I hypothesize that kids are starving for human interaction but spend all their waking hours looking at screens.

Have you tried applying to positions in your industry through an employment agency? When I was applying for new jobs recently I found that super helpful because they basically do the search for you after you give them your résumé and tell them what you’re looking for. It took a little of the anxiety away as well since you can communicate any questions or concerns you have with potential employers without having to directly communicate with job interviewers! Hopefully that could be helpful for you so you don’t have to be the one sending multiple applications a day and you could spend a bit more time with Sophie 😊

I love teaching, but not being in the classroom. The anxiety I have felt is just too much. Professional development consists of classes called "Taming the Hulk" and "Motivating the Unmotivated Student," etc. It seems all we are learning about now is putting out fires and handling misbehavior. It's difficult to just teach because of behavior. It has depleted what I uses to love so much.

As a sub, I never seem to experience these issues in the classroom related to behavior. Some classes are loud, but I have never been verbally abused, or even had any real issues. You would think they would be more unruly to me than they would their regular teacher.

So sorry to hear what you’re going through. You are my daughter you are my granddaughter I am retired from the school system as a school psychologist for 28 1/2 years. I so appreciated and loved it but that was three years with a supervisor who drove me up the wall, and I had all the attacks that you had and all the depression that you have had yes I’m glad I stuck it through because I have a very nice pension now and I hoped that I helped a few kids along the way you will find your way. Sending lots of love love and hugs Linda.

You don’t really seem to get to the point but my hunch is that you object to the over-riding crowd control imperative in public schooling which has been imposed by the common misperception that learning is somehow a group activity, which it most decidedly is not. So in effect, not only is all learning individual, but those who fail to learn for whatever reason need to be diverted to some alternate activity perhaps more therapeutic in nature. And then also, those kids who make it impossible for others to learn also need to be diverted into something along the lines of behavioral modification. And none of this has anything to do with imposing your will on large groups of kids. There are abundant cases where teachers who are adept at controlling kids are concomitantly and demonstrably actually teaching them virtually nothing. But as we used to say at the ghetto high school where I taught, the good teacher is the one whose class is making no noise as the idiotic principal walks by in the hallway on his way to go hand-cuff some truants who have cut out of class to wander the halls, perhaps in large groups devoted to mischief rather than learning. And never forget, your average student is on his way to becoming the typical boring adult with perhaps a sixth grade reading level, and IQ of 100 or dull normal, and a job which took them perhaps a week to learn and which doesn’t even pay enough to rent their own apartment.
