  • Quitting isn't easy but taking the steps has made me feel so much better. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and try new things. I spent a lot of time in prayer over this decision and handed my anxiety over to God. I always try to stay on His path for my life so hand big decisions over to God.
1 Peter 5:7 says "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for us".

I am a middle school teacher and pastor's wife in South Florida. Teacher burnout is real! I am currently counting down the days until Spring Break.

Ah I really feel the pain of conflict you speak about… I had to quit teaching because of the stress of the work load meaning it was impossible for me to switch off, ever. I absolutely loved teaching itself but like you say, it isn’t worth the harm to our mental and physical health.
I’m now working in the charity sector and I honestly love every minute. I’m able to have time off, be present mentally and emotionally for my family and even though it’s been 18 months since quitting teaching now I still find myself suddenly jerking in mild panic thinking ‘oh my gosh, I should be working on such and such…!’ and then remember, nope, my job is finished for the day and I have nothing I need to do until morning. It’s blissful and I hope that feeling of rest never gets old for us both 😊 Enjoy x

I really do appreciate your honestly and as a teacher, I agree we have a great deal of things to do. I think it must be said though, that a lot of teachers (especially new teachers) are trying to teach and post videos at the same time. This is incredibly hard and can add to the stress. If you are a teacher and blogging, things like editing, filming, creating thumbnails, etc can add to the feeling of being overwhelmed. Make sure you are prioritizing what is important.

Your video was so timely! I have just retired from education and will be going into an executive director position in a non profit that supports kids in foster care. I’m excited, scared, and a whole lot of other emotions! Thanks!

So excited for your new journey! I am also in the education line and I understand when you say burnout especially with online learning. Rest well and keep smiling. God bless.

11 years ago I was a LSA in a primary school. I left to have a Hysterectomy and never went back. The kids were amazing I miss them so much, but the bitchy back biting teachers were enough to keep me away forever. I taught 5-7 year olds and loved the things they came out with. Actually a few weeks ago, a young man delivered us a Pizza, he says, "ohhh Mrs Wheatley you used to be my teacher, you were the best ever. You helped me read!" I didn't recognise him but remembered him when he told me his name. I swear, right there in that moment, I almost cried. My family heard him say it and were so proud. I went on to make and design Christmas Stockings and little Girls School uniforms, but arthritis but pay to that, so now I only do it occasionally as a hobby when I can. Good luck in your new job Katy, exciting times ahead. x

I am a retired nurse. My oldest sister was a teacher. She taught mostly year 2s. She ended up getting burnt out after 30+ years of teaching and had to retire early due to it. I don't always comment, but I have followed you since before your Arbonne days. I think the first video I watched of yours, you showed your bright pink filofax and your Bible. I love all things stationery and that's how I found your channel. Your sweetness has kept me here! :)
    Love from Australia!

Late to this video but thought I’d comment anyway 😊I’m a teacher but currently on maternity leave. I’ve decided not to go back until my son is older so I’m currently tutoring a few evenings a week and doing some occasional essay marking. X

Hi I am doing my undergrad dissertation on why teachers leave the profession. Please can I interview you? Plus anyone else that might read this and has just left the profession. I am studying at UEL. My ethics form has been approved.

Sorry, I am a late-comer. I wonder if you have an update on how you’re doing? I have been in the professional field of early years education and then teaching since I was 16 years old and now I’m aged 37. I’ve been teaching in UK and overseas. I have a contract finishing in summer 2025 and I have decided it will be my last in teaching. I feel I want to experience something else and do not want another 30 years in this profession. Besides, a teacher in their early 20s is bound to be different in their mid 60s. Trouble is, I have no idea which profession to branch off into!

Hi! I took a break from teaching and then gradually got back into it through supply teaching, I found a school that I love and they took me on as their nursery teacher. I only work mornings and I love it, feel like I have a good balance now. I tried working at a beauty academy for a few months but I really didn't enjoy being stuck at a desk for most of the day and missed the school holidays with my children.
It's good that you have some time to think things through before you leave teaching, I know that most professions will welcome teachers as we have so many transferrable skills! I recommend watching youtube videos following people to work in all different kinds of jobs to see if any spark a new passion for you. I considered going into marketing as I really enjoy that kind of work.
