I wish UA-cam gave us like 5 "gold stars" a year to give out to videos that genuinely are helpful and fulfill the promise of their title.
Bravo. This is a masterclass in communicating high-level architecture. In this 15 minute video, I finally understand these relationships and structure, after reading hours and hours of documentation.
Thanks Jason!!! Appreciate your kind words :)
Finally found a simple explanation of devices vs entities! Thank you!
Appreciate your feedback!:)
I have been stumbling my way through Home assistant for about 1.5 YRS now. I have accomplished some great things mainly from reading forums and watching videos. Your video is very well made. I enjoy when all options are discussed/explained. I want to know all I can about everything there is, so I can apply that knowledge later. Keep the videos coming and never hold back information. There are so many people that touch on a topic and don't do a deep dive. Thank You. I will definitely check out your online course!
Hi tpm369! Thanks for your feedback :) My main goal is to empower people to build automation not really to teach a particular thing. If you learn the concepts then the imagination is your limit
Super important. THANKS for sharing. I got confused before, now little mor clear...
Thanks Ros!
A great tutorial and insight for someone like me that is just starting out and has no knowledge or coding or anything else Thanks
Thanks Mike:) any questions let me know!
Great video. I've often wondered about the difference between devices, entities and so on. Thanks a lot.
Thanks Steve, glad you enjoyed it!
This was incredibly helpful and well spoken.
Much appreciated your comment !
Thanks so much. Awesome overview. I think for the trigger vs condition part, you want to check if it's dark every time you sense motion, but not check if there's motion when it becomes dark. The trigger determines when the automation checks conditions.
You can have an automation turning on when it becomes dark even if nobody is in the room or at home. That would be a waste :)
Excellent explanation - thank you.
Thanks Mike!
This is a great video.....wish I had found it before venturing out on HA.
Much appreciated your feedback David, did you get HA up and running ?
@@SmartHomeMakers I did thank you.
I was going crazy. I just installed SONOFF and forgot that I can call services to control my Mini. That little bread crumb was a true blessing.
Awesome Louis!
Very nice presentation. You made a confusing topic quite clear. Thank you
Thanks Anthony!
Hey Gio, just posted this video to someone in the HA Facebook group who seemed a little unclear on entities vs devices. I really like how you break this down. You gave me a lot of confidence when I was getting started, so hope this helps someone else!
Appreciate it a lot! What was their response ?
very informative. Thank you
Amazing ! Thanks for watching
Awesome video, what many of us looking for.
Thanks Vaughan! Glad you enjoyed!
The best explanation ever. Thhhaaannnkkkss.
Thanks David !
Brilliant video. I really needed to understand the syntax and archictecture of HA. Im still surprised they used the term "Entities" to describe what a device does. That nomencalture was so confusing without context.
Appreciate you words and time spent on watching the video!
Thanks for the guide. Some questions.
Why is the battery level not just another Entity?
I can understand the Attributes as: Language, minimal thresholds, etc.
But battery level seems weird to me. It is a property of the device itself.
"Domain" and "Platform" (12:10) are still vague but i just started this journey
Great vid ..
Thanks Ron!
Great, thank you!
Hi Weldeborn! You are welcome!
Thank you.
Thank you Ron!
Fantastic video!! Thank you!..liked amd subscribed!!
Thanks a lot !
Super Tx to U for the video.
Quick question, how to establish a calculation made from 2 entities
ie: entitie apparent power that divides entitie inverter voltage
so as to know the current and declare it as a new entitie.
Thx for help
I just found:
parameters, inputs, create an input, template, model a sensor... + code
THANKS
Sorry I misunderstood your OP I have since found your free course and will be watching all the videos so I can make an informed decision to buy into the videos and courses you will be making.
No worries :) Have a great week
Thanks great video, for organization purposes do we organize entity IDs or friendly names? so it does not become one big mess.
Entity IDs are really important, it is great to rename them as soon as possible. As changing the name will break things within HA.
Excellent!!! Great!!!
Glad is was useful!
@@SmartHomeMakers Although this may not be the right video for what I'm going to ask, but I don't know where else to do it.
There will not be a way to make a video explaining how to create advanced automations, without Node-Red, and only with the default HA automations, in which you can ask, for example:
That a motion sensor turns on a light when it detects motion, in addition,
depending on the time of day, set the brightness to the following values (day: 95%, night: 50%, bedtime: 15%), but only if it is dark (lux
@@jolmav9400 thanks for your question! I’m going to launch a course on automation Deepdive with HA (link in description) where I’m looking at more advanced scenarios !
Excellent, succinct intro!
Where would you recommend someone go to get the next level technical details of what you described here?
I.e. class definitions and APIs?
Hello! I would follow my templating videos, start with the masterclass then go to the api video!
few months of digging explained in few minutes ;-)
Appreciate this a lot! It took me ages to get it too
Do something to sound pls. Echo!
I think I upgraded the mic since:) also empty room at the time didn’t help! Thanks for the feedback:)
