    I have been reading and watching videos as I prepare to get started with HA. Your video is very timely for me with lots of excellent advice. Keep these kinds of videos coming! Thanks!

    Very good video for the more nuanced topics for a novice. I picked several of these up on my own in 3 weeks but it would've been faster had I found this video, first.

    Great tips, I 100% agree! I wish I knew these when I started my Home Assistant journey.

    A great guide for HA users. Although I consider myself not a HA rookie anymore, I noticed that I still am missing some steps. The most difficult one for me remains scripts. Gave multiple shots at it and only have two working. A lot of my scripts failed and were replaced by other methods. Really can not get a hold of it.

      Hi Robin, as you are a member there should be some dedicated videos on scripts in the source. Pick a series of repetitive actions from your automations and then create a script out of them!

    would love to see a better deep dive into yaml specifically. Something like a yaml master class / yaml for dummies

    Lots of usefull tips. I would love to learn more about setting up a ‘lab’. What hardware? Can you use the same sensors and devices as your production? Or do you create temporary setups for experiments?
    Naming conventions is also something I seem to find little about. I tried my own ‘Room - Device type - Subwhatever’ but now if it’s in an area, the area automaticaly gets removed so that leaves me with ‘ - Device type - Subwhatever’. This leads me to believe that the naming convention is supposed to be something like ‘Room Device type subwhatever’ which seems less clear to me.

    • @SmartHomeMakers
      @SmartHomeMakers  2 роки тому

      Hi Wouter, in terms of naming convention it should make it easier to find things (example all battery sensors end with _battery. Given a motion sensor in the kitchen you could have: kitchen_motion_sensor, kitchen_illuminance_sensor, kitchen_motion_battery. A lab is going to be one thing that I look into building properly!

    I would love to know more about variables in scripts and how to exactly pass the information into the variables inside the script. I thought I had my head wrapped around this concept but whenever I try it it doesn’t work.

      Hi Sterg! Are you using home assistant? Have you integrated all devices into HA? Once that is done you should be able to do this!

    As a content creator, I think it is good to know that Premium UA-cam Users do not see all "Cards," so if you want to share links to other videos you should put them in the description as well.

    Thanks for this interesting walkthrough! I'm wondering how you obtained the Automation Dashboard seen at 9:25, in particular the on/off toggles for automations and the order of tabs. I run 2023.2, but I don't have the ability to toggle automations. Could you explain? Thanks!

    All nice and valuable, but I want to know how to build scripts and templates and what not. I don't need to know how to organize all of it if I don't know how to use it.

    Hi can you speak about platform never understood what follows that. Is there a list of different platforms for HA

    • @SmartHomeMakers
      @SmartHomeMakers  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Gary, the best way to find the list of platforms is when you are in the UI and you create an automations and expand the trigger type. Remember platform is just a keyword that helps HA understand what you are trying to do. For example looking for the sun set, a numeric value, mqtt, state etc.

      @@JoseBerruezo I had the same. It's because you're running the 32-bit version of HA OS on your Pi. You need the 64-bit version to use Visual Studio Code. Take a full backup, install the 64-bit version and then restore your backup.

    In order to use yaml,
    Instead of learning a human readable language, you need to learn how to think like a yaml parser
    The worst concept in programming, is whitespace dependant syntax
    And I write lisp for fun, the ancient programming language known as
    (L ots of
    (I rritating
    (S uperfluous
    (P arentheses))))
    Seriously, booth yaml and python are many times worse than even the largest most confusing clojure (def clojure
    ["modern",
    "functional",
    "immutable",
    "lisp dialect"]) projects

      Hi, I only started HA myself about a year ago and have had a really rocky road. The whole footholds, which I often had to find out laboriously through dozens of videos, a series of well-made videos could certainly help avoid.
      Gladly I share, in the interest of such a well-made series my bad experiences ... only it is too extensive for such a comment field.
      Is there a way to send you a mail ?
