My uncle, Ernest Stirewalt 362nd Inf. 91st Div. is buried here. He was killed in action Oct. 10, 1944 south of Bologne in a mortar garage. I visited twice for my father and his surviving brother (who landed on Omaha Beach and fought in the Battle of the Bulge). The cemetery is nothing less than serene. Thanks for this powerful video.
My uncle, PFC John F. Flynn, fought in Italy with the 349th Infantry Regiment. We did not know about this cemetery until a guide, driving us from Florence into Tuscany, asked if we would like to see it. What a profoundly moving experience. My Uncle John came home from the World War II, married, raised a family, and lived to old age. Not all of us buddies were so fortunate. As I stood among these white crosses, I wondered how many who had fought by his side were buried here. Thank you for this beautiful tribute to these American heroes. This is truly hallowed ground.
I live in Chianti, every time I drive towards Florence and I pass under the stars and stripes flag, I turn my head for a moment, I raise the hand to my forehead and I salute all these brave men who gave their lives to Save our country, a country that wasn’t even their homeland. This is the spirit of the Americans, the Greatest Guarantors of Democracy and Freedom around the world. God Bless America.
Thanks for making this video. My Grandfather is buried here, fighting in WW2 he stepped on a land mine and succumbed to his injury. My family visited the site in 2013. The entire cemetery was closed then due to the shutdown of the US government during the Obama years. The American chap who ran the cemetery made sure we weren’t turned away, after travelling that far to pay our respects. I love this place, not just for who lay there but also what it stands for. 🙌
Of the 1,000 men of the 10th Mountain Division that were killed in Action, 355 are interred at the Florence American Cemetery. My dad did not talk much about the war but he did tell me "the real heroes are those that did not make it back home". Sempre Avanti.
Such a beautiful place, thank you to those that take care of my uncles grave. Many prayers to all and one of our own that gave his life unselfishly U. S. PVT. First Class Edward G. Podulka of the 351st, 88th Division, Rifle Regiment. May you rest in peace here.
I love your video the way you put it together is awesome. I did one like this for veterans day. Me being a veteran myself this means a lot. People don't often think of the ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you

Estati Italiane. And so it was.Unfortunately, democracy is on a very shaky ground right now in the US.At this point we can’t even guarantee it at home.
