One of the few singers who doesn’t over sing or push his vocal to the painful limits and turn off the listeners. Sings from the heart and radiates beauty.
Every week, Jack ignores the mentor, ignores the judges and just does his own thing. Phillip Phillips did the exact same thing the year he won.

putting his spin on Cher, ballsy. It sounded good in his voice, focused attention on the lyric, esp loved the bridge. He dug in, got personal, brought in a lil rasp. He was enjoying this performance, sustaining those high notes. Sweet. - So You Wanna Be A Singer

You're definitely right. It took balls to do a song like this. But I'd had to say, I'm pretty sure she's gonna have a chance to see this video, but I'm pretty damn sure that she would be proud of him also
He is wonderful. Loved him from day 1. Joe Cocker used to make all those facial expressions. This boy is great.

Good one for our Quirky Jack!!!... He went far, despite one or several of the judges wanting to boot him earlier on.
Most memorable performance of the evening. Jack’s sweet spots are his vocal flips, falsetto and phrasing. He’s been putting his own spin on songs and successfully checking off the challenge. I was taken back when I heard he was singing that Cher classic, but he slowed it down, put a twist on it and sailed to the top 8. Go Jack! Still on the Blocker train, which is headed to the finale, at least I hope.
I immediately thought it was a great song choice -- this song has great words and a wonderful melody. I fully expected he was not going to do the disco version!

Another perfect song choice and flawless vocal from my winner pick! Just so many interesting vocal colors and textures in his voice. Such a storyteller voice! This performance just built so perfectly! I literally feel like I’m watching his tour every time he performs.

His song choices are consistently unexpected and excellent. And Katy doesn't miss with her advice, him reigning down his facial expressions gradually is making him sound less strained and more smooth. I liked him from the beginning and he's just improved over the course of the competition.
Him, Julia, and Mckenna should be the final 3 of the 8 that are left I feel.

This was so nice. It's such a difference when a singer feels him or herself a part of the story -- it shows in the little things they do: little spontaneous looks and movements. Either a singer feels the spirit and meaning of the song or they don't and in most cases with these Idol contestants, they don't. This show is mostly about fake emotion and trying to look the part because they're unable to feel it.
Watching this a second time with headphones on - wow! The band and the arrangement are really exceptional. Back up singers sound great too. This is why I watch this show!
That"s the difference, he feels the story! Taking singing lessons being able to hit the right notes is not everything in performing... Song writers/artists write these songs because it is something they have been through or has great meaning to them! Many contestants get up there and hit all the right notes maybe add a little flare but there is something missing.... I just love him and hope the best for him in his career....
@@lauriegordon5591 Yes! And how many times do the judges & coaches have to tell these contestants that it's all about the story ? A good song is a magical melding of a story expressing something real with melody. All the great songs and singers take you somewhere emotionally. But for a singer to just hit the notes and make gestures -- that's really not singing.

Jack made me want to listen to this song again and I loved his cover giving us more of the story of the song. He just gave the song so much more soul. I could see him doing a video standing alone out in the desert under a that orange-pink-red sunset. He gave the song a western, not country, just that type of Cowboy soul. ✨A+✨

@@LisaMurphyI completely disagree. I think he really didn’t even think about it, it is just how he expresses. Now that it has been pointed out to him he is clearly making an effort to reign it in. But he falls back into it especially when he is really into the moment. Plus his is not a personality to put on airs for the sake of it. He strikes me as being a bit shy still, very easy going and laid back. Frankly why would anyone deliberately pull those faces? It nearly prevented him from getting into the show. He recognizes this now.
@@bearnpici I think he was putting it on when he sang Cheatin Heart. His expressions looked freakish. As to Jack always being authentic, that Bob Dylan song was over the top. Whatever. The guy is super good , I think we can agree on that.

When they said he was doing Believe I was afraid (for him) that he was going to attempt the arrangement Adam Lambert did at the Kennedy Center Honors for Cher… which was brilliant. But he truly did put his own special twist on it and I liked it!!! Its the mark of a great song when you can arrange it several ways and it’s still amazing.
I think it is also the mark of a great artist that can take a song and make it their own! 😊

Jack I don’t know if you read these but please don’t follow the advice Luke and Katy are giving you. I thought you DID have a blast singing that song! One does not need to run all over the stage to engage an audience. Some like yourself can simply draw people in with their raw voice. You have such a wonderful imagination with your vocal choices using some rasp, some growl, some falsetto and overall decisions in melody. It is truly a pleasure. You are on another level and whatever happens you will have a career moving forward. Congratulations.
