@@RosettaStoned462I also came here to say this. I about threw my remote through the TV when they sent him out. But when they brought him back and the more I thought about it yeah it was definitely scripted. Katy might be dumb enough to have not recognized his talent, but Lionel is not.

She was talking about how the left side of his face pulls, but was trying not to say it for some reason. Which is why Ryan Seacrest said "I've seen his face."
For whatever reason, they were trying to hide it with camera angles.
Katie was not talking about his sound sound. She was talking about his mouth.

I believe she was mainly referring to the theatrics but in the end that’s the way he feel comfortable singing and to be critical of his STYLE and not his voice was very unreasonable
Going back to this... seeing how Jack is now in the top 7 and doing an incredible job. Major props to Luke to pulling this off. Jack so deserves to be in this thing.

Why do I feel like i'm being played though?
I watched 2 videos from American Idol in a row on the first video they said to the contestant that the Crew is clapping and it has never happened before.
Now the crew is voting and it has never happened before. It feels like a publicity stunt. Maybe the "stars above" was the signal to get this done hahhaha.
EDIT: Holy shit i might be right: 3:40 Lionel starts laughing awkwardly and he took a long time as if someone from the production team was telling him something and then he goes "Alright stars above..." which could mean he agrees to do this shit.

I, too, was initially caught off guard by Jack's facial expressions when forming notes but quickly realized this is his style. So happy Lionel Richie had the confidence and humility to bring Jack back...speaks volumes about him and what makes a true and strong public figure. Bravo!

Some people sing with their hands, his hands are occupied. Some people sing and show emotion with their eyes. This man shows his emotion for his song through his mouth and facial expressions and I felt it. Love love love.

Yes, I don’t watch the show nor do I subscribe to American Idol. I occasionally watch things that pop up like this and that’s it. That’s how good this guy is. ❤️ I hope he goes far. I’m not just talking about this show.

The way he walked away still positive about it all is when I knew he's different. Love him!
Music is so in my heart. I cry during the episodes because I see people sing with their whole heart. When they let him go, I banged on my table, I was mad. When crew stepped in and they brought him back in, I banged my table to celebrate with him.
Lionel was torn, glad he changed his vote.
He was humble, stood there quietly took their critique and judgement, he didn’t have a sob story, so they didn’t let him through as they would have done with others with the same, if not less, talent.
I’m very glad Luke made a fuss about it. He definitely deserved a chance to go through to next round with his vocal and songwriting talent.

I think Lionel did it to do him a favor. He knew this guy would be a star on his own, and wanted him to get full credit for his talent rather than having the fame from American Idol

What I love about this is he took the feedback, took the no and was so obviously an INCREDIBLE songwriter and singer with a few bad habits, and then they called him back and put him through. That song just flowed and could be a recorded hit. Well deserved!

@@annemariegerun7955 referencing what Katy mentioned, he's twisting his face a bit too much when he sings to get the phrasing out which can feel a bit too effected and probably hasn't been that aware of it before.
@@chazharris Do you remember Trent Harmon, winner of Idol 2016? He also made strange faces when he sang, but JLo coached him and he tamed it down a bit. I don't think Jack even realizes he makes faces....he just sings with passion. He is a natural.
Yep, that's what Katy (and I) were saying. It's just raw and needs some honing so he can make a bit more eye contact with the audience at home on the live shows outside of an audition room. I'm sure they'll coach him on that though.@@annemariegerun7955
He pulls something out of the listener with his words, a deep soul response. The rest is breath control and timing for the notes. That can be learned. So glad they called him back.
Seen this over 50 times, and I still clap at the end sometimes. So good!!!!
Young Jack is fully committed to his craft. But also coachable, humble and unique - and has a pretty darn good voice to boot! Can’t wait to hear more!
His gesture with his sound is what got my attention, I could feel he was feeling what was coming out of his mouth ! Thanks for bringing him back , he is unique.

His gestures and mouth movement was a little old school, Hank Williams comes to mind as was some of the song with a little yodel put in. The song, words, voice and creativity were excellent and should have outweighed the others. He has great potential and these things easily coachable. I was floored with the no, when I have seen some go thru with just a smidgen of his talent. Way to go crew in turning it around.

Everything was great but the facial expressions are a bit distracting, I'm not trying to be mean but it's just my honest first impression I would be able to focus more on his talent if he just reeled in the facial expressions a lil bit.
This is one of the best auditions I've ever seen on the show. Beautiful musicality, tone, control, emotion, authenticity, and just wonderful to listen to. My mind is absolutely BLOWN that these judges are so deaf 😂

He is showing feeling when he sings. That true connection to every word and you can feel it resonate from his soul. Why does every singer have to fit a cookie cutter mold? The true legends stand out.

True. But it can be distracting. Perry also hates it whenever a singer closes their eyes or doesn’t make eye contact w/ her while they’re singing.

As soon as i saw him he reminded me of another great performer on American Idol, Phillip Phillips who won season 11. We also can't forget about another amazing artist may he R.I.P. Just watched this audition last night, very first comment out loud was, "This guy reminds me of Phillip Phillips". I fully don't understand where Katy nor Lionel were coming from. Seemed like Katy was taken aback by the comment about never saying "I was wrong" before as well.

This was actually a blessing in disguise he is going to win the whole because of the way it all went down and the way he handled it. Everybody is pulling for him. He had my vote before he even sang. When Luke asked him if he earned that shirt. He said; I was hoping yall wouldn't ask no I didn't I actually got it at a Goodwill. That's my dawg !!!

Singing is not about how your faces look like when u sing it. Yes I get a lil distracted on how he sing but damn those lyrics, how he sang his “own” song. ughh Im happy that they gave him a chance. 😊🙏🏽
