Nice work. I like that you see the value and beauty in the workings of the farm. We have a gifted 1945 Massey and my husband did some work so it works for cutting and such. Ours isn't painted yet, next summer. We also have a 1950 Farmall M that he overhauled, not repainted but that old work horse is road and farm ready. He'd love to get hold of that diesel Farmall. My husband is a retired farmer if there I such a thing, farmers do not retire but our horse stable did. He is also a farm machinery mechanic so our property sports all manner of old tractors and parts. As soon as one tractor moves on out, another appears, seems to be no end to old farm machinery since farmers do not scrap their tractors no matter the condition. I have to admit though that I wish some of them would transform into robots and make their way down the road!
Thanks for all that. I quickly realized that every old tractor has a story behind it, and I love what you say: "farmers do not scrap their tractors no matter the condition."
My grandfather had a 1953 Ford Jubilee just about like that one. It was originally white and red. Them little tractors were work horses. Thanks for sharing.
What I like about your plein air sessions is you always try to interact, not just with the environment, but also the people. So there're story-telling elements behind every piece of your artworks. Great Job!
So many artist I see on UA-cam stick to the same subject matter and never step out into different and unique terrain. James doesn’t mind throwing a robot or flying car into a traditional landscape. Love it
It's so valuable to see how you changed the composition towards something stronger midway. Something artists do all the time but it's great to see how and why you did it James! Thanks
I love most country folks. So much of the mainstream is fixated on portraying working class rural people has stupid, racist, and backwards. Not all people of any type are saints but these people don't deserve to be demonized the way they are most everywhere you go. This was a fantastic video and I loved the painting. Thanks for sharing!
You're right. And I didn't even mention that Tom and John are both brilliant artists, as well as knowing a ton about fixing tractors and raising cattle and training horses. And they were ready to protect us painters from the grizzlies and mountain lions that prowl around those parts.
Pretty sure people like the ones in the video aren't being made fun of in those portrayals... There are plenty of mainstream TV and Movies that positively show people all over the country. Even like those in this video.. I mean there's top sitcoms, sports shows, reality TV even. I don't know watchya are getting upset about?
What a difference it made to adjust the legs! He looks ready to go, if possible, instead of retiring into a retreat. Love these old tractors, a friend has an old Deutz and it never fails her. Love to hear the diesel chugging across a pasture.
I'm just captivated by your magical work James. I live in Brisbane Australia and an avid urban sketcher. I followed closely your instructions for the construction of your ingenious little sketching easel and I'm wrapped in it. I also get great enjoyment in watching your Facebook videos and the way in which you deliver your instructions and hints. Best wishes for your future sketchind projects.
I was really moved by the little back story you came up with about the robot that couldn't work any more because a component had seized, I thought to myself 'I'll get you going again buddy'. We're going to have to look out for our future robot companions
Thanks James! This is kind of a cool bonding thing for me and my dad, he works on tractors and I am an artist so we don't have many common interests other than stuff like car shows
That was great! Thank you for the longer content. I liked how you changed the painting twice because it wasn’t working for you. That was a valuable lesson. Thank you!
Agree with James Gurney that within 10 years there will be robots of all kinds - social 🤖 robots for seniors and disabled, assistive robots for nurses aides to do patient transfers, industrial cleaning robots, etc. Japan already has robots greeting guests at hotels.
That is so cool. I build scale models (for fun and trying to turn into a business), and I've been looking for an idea for a scratch built/modified kit build for the model show next year. I think you just provided my inspiration. I'll record the build and will let you know when it's uploaded. And of course I will absolutely have your painting recognized/cited as the inspiration for the vignette. That is of course if you don't mind. 🙏 Your paintings are amazing. Thank you for sharing your works of art, knowledge and tips. 👍👍
It may not have been intentional, but the way you framed the gentleman you were interviewing at about 9:00 is beautiful, with his dark hat against the light green trees
That ‘ol cowboy has a dialect that is disappearing. He sounds like an old western radio actor from the 30’s and 40’s, salt of the earth type of guy. Sure would like to find a group of folks like the ones who are painting with you. 👍🏻
i have a question that everyone could ask in fact, you say at a moment that you'd have to finish your artpiece by memory, why not take a picture and work with it ? Is it to keep the unique tone of a painting to capture a moment ? i'm just wondering, and incredible work, i cannot imagine how many hours you put into this passion, wonderful work
I LOVE watching you paint. And this is such a beautiful whimsical picture. And yet there's a little meloncholy to it. Such a lovely sketch. I want to get into gouache but I'm kind of confounded by the color change when it dries. I always want to make highlights with it but they always end up way darker than I had intended.
Your videos are truely inspiring... You always make sure that there is a storyline to it which makes it more interesting... btw nice piece of art..the property of the medium is exploited...
A great video, loved the interactions with the farmers - Wyoming is a special place. It sounded like you were part of a painting tour group, can you share the name of the tour company and their contact information?
Great video. Many of insights. Thanks you so much for what you're doing. However on overall theme, I'd like to hope that we will soon enter an age where there will be no rodeo whatsoever or any other animal cruelty for that matter.
My grangfather had a john deere size 1960, ovbiusly green but with pass the time was brown and gray, my grandpa never painted it, he said that functed better. hahaha
in my imagination a robot squatting would look more sad and maybe less human even tough in cold climate squatting is preferred by humans so you dont freeze your ass

I couldn't agree more! Really very useful for us to see! Thanks so much.

Preach brother!
So true! Well said.

What a great painting - I paused to really look at it at the end!
I love that this video was a bit longer than the others! It really gives insight into your process and thinking :)
What a fun cowboy person, great trans-for-mation on the tractor. Hope you all have a great trip.
Wow! He has so much imagination and the story just backs it up beautifully. I just time travelled, inspiring work. James Gurney is awesome.
What a difference it made to adjust the legs! He looks ready to go, if possible, instead of retiring into a retreat. Love these old tractors, a friend has an old Deutz and it never fails her. Love to hear the diesel chugging across a pasture.
I love James’ voice. It’s so calming and makes these videos so easy to watch.
The robot tractor turned out excellent and yes artificial intelligence is really scary thanks for sharing!!!!!

Amazing painting as always, and I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and the commentary from the ranchers
Love the video! What a cool robot! Issac Asimov or Douglas Adams? Marvin the paranoid robot... Love it!
I'm not into robots but I love this what you made it like.
Just watched “Finch” movie and remembered this painting. There’s some resemblance between robot Jeff and this tractor robot 😊
This is, by far my favorite painting in your series, because I make robot models from used/found objects and shapes.
I was really moved by the little back story you came up with about the robot that couldn't work any more because a component had seized, I thought to myself 'I'll get you going again buddy'. We're going to have to look out for our future robot companions
Thank you so much, Mr. Gurney.
Nice interview with Mr. Lucas too.
Wonderful work.
Very cool, I love how you showed the changes this painting went through. This makes me want to try transforming things into robots!
Thanks James! This is kind of a cool bonding thing for me and my dad, he works on tractors and I am an artist so we don't have many common interests other than stuff like car shows

I love seeing how a painting changes. I’ve learned a lot about painting from your videos
Really, really lovely. I enjoyed watching the entire process. Thank you so much for sharing!
So creative!

really nice picture, it made a huge difference when you changed the background. very nice.
Your Philosophy it’s simple genius and very unique I don’t paint but now I plan to!
James I would give my left arm to spend painting with you. Just to see your routine and management. Gosh I do envy your life proses
It may not have been intentional, but the way you framed the gentleman you were interviewing at about 9:00 is beautiful, with his dark hat against the light green trees
I know right. I love to come across people with the same interests as me who can actually see the beauty in color contrast of everyday things.
Thank you
This channel gave me the Gouache Hype
"mmmmm Actually.. it's Gouache."

this is an amazing video, you are pretty darn brave to create that robot on the spot ! It came out so great !
Great video and illustration. You show all the process and changes. Love the narration. From Spain, thank you!!!
This is a great idea. Very cool!
I really enjoyed the long
er videos that shows more of your process.
So cool!!
Another great video! :) Thanks, James! You nailed it, as always!
Wonderful! Thank you very much!
Really cool - I love your concept art!
Great video, one of my favorites
Great video James !!! 15 minutes

Robots are cool.
Im no expert but I remember hearing that those diesel tractors are fairly rare, especially these days

You are great, sir. I see a lot of your drawings. Very inspiring.

Rust in peace.

Great stuff James! What kind of watercolor sketch book are you using. Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks!
You are the best 💪
A great video, loved the interactions with the farmers - Wyoming is a special place. It sounded like you were part of a painting tour group, can you share the name of the tour company and their contact information?
Yes, I was part of the SKB Workshop in Dubois Wyoming: skbworkshop.com/
@@JamesGurney thanks James
This painting filled me with sadness.
When robots become self-aware
Cool
I want to be in that group.
If the Alien from ""Aliens" got that tractor knocked up, Then the Robot after bursting out of the dead engine.
Great video. Many of insights. Thanks you so much for what you're doing. However on overall theme, I'd like to hope that we will soon enter an age where there will be no rodeo whatsoever or any other animal cruelty for that matter.
Wait until you guys find out about greenstar...
