Mike just seems like the nicest, most down-to-earth guy that anyone should love to work with or have as a friend. I love railroads so much and I wish I had gone into it as a career sometimes, and his videos provide me the closest opportunity I might ever get.
Hello Mr. Barnett, hope and pray you are doing well. Another great video here, I have watched other railroad channels on my computer here, but you have the very best railroad channel, yours is a lot more interesting in every way and all! God bless!
Do it.. you better start applying and figure your way in because it’s super hard to get that job. I know people who have been hired by the RR as an engineer but still haven’t had a chance to operate one. They do other work because of demand and seniority. I don’t want to discourage you . Go for it.. but it’s not easy to get into
Csx runs through Auburn and Winder Georgia. Please do a whole video of Auburn Winder and Statham Georgia. Statham Winder Auburn Georgia. Welcome to Barrow County Mike, enjoy your day. May God Ride with You and the Crews

What do you think of CSX? I haven't seen any railroaders tell their opinion of how work is there. I've been looking into working for BNSF/CN if I do eventually work for a railroad. -14 year old railfan
I'm a BNSF conductor so I don't know from experience but I've heard that CSX is pretty hard on their employees. BNSF is said to have the best pay, and I've heard that CN is pretty good to employees but has lower pay. Hopefully by the time you're old enough the railroads will be hiring again. Hope that states pass more two person crew laws and that hopefully there will be a federal two person crew law someday. If not, there will be a lot of railroaders out of jobs.
Tobias perhaps you should search online for a class 1 railroad company that is hiring from there they will direct you to the job of your dreams and provide the training .
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 Awesome! thanks....quick question. Have you ever operated an AC 6000? And if so, are you able to feel the power difference between the AC6000cw and the AC4000? I'm a huge fan of both these amazing machines and was just wondering about them.
@@nbagoats4819 there is always a noticable different between the different series of locomotives but the way they operate and supply the traction is what you value so as not to over power the trailing tonnage.
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 Amazing. Have you ever needed a helper locomotive because of not having enough power? And is sand used only during wet condition? or can it be used during dry condition to help gain traction during wheel slippage. Hate to keep asking questions but I can talk trains all day. And don't pay me no mind if you don't feel the need. I'm sure it can get annoying for you with so many railfans out there.

It's not that simple... they won't hire you for the fact you want to "drive" trains..
Thank you for the train ride. God bless you and stay safe out there.
Mike, you are the man! PLEASE keep the videos coming!!
Keep the awesome vids coming Mr Barnett Nd enjoy your retirement 😎🔥

Thank you Jack.
Radio sounded like it was glitching! LOL!
Great vid!
Awesome video Mike! I subbed to your channel
Does anyone know what engine this is?
Missed driving the GE's when they went. Sadly for me at least the mob I worked for went to all EMD locos.
Please excuse my ignorance, but what does the bell mean in the cab?
A system onboard needs immediate attending or resetting .

Hey Mike,Greg again did you ever have trouble getting your engines worked on or was CSX always on top of that, thanks mike🚑🚒
Hi Greg we mostly took our engines to the engine servicing areas in the terminals we worked or received fresh engines on the trains ready to go.

Have you ever drove Q573?
Not a train that ran on my sub.
How long you were an engineer for CSX?
9 years out of 37+
Mike, what year was this video?
Around 2012
How old do you have to be to become a CSX engineer?
Tobias perhaps you should search online for a class 1 railroad company that is hiring from there they will direct you to the job of your dreams and provide the training .
At the Soo Line/Canadian Pacific (a class one RR) you have to be at least 18 years old to be hired.
💪🏾🙏🏾
Is it true you must be a conductor before reaching engineer status? And if so, how long must you be a conductor?
It may or may not be necessary to be a conductor first depending upon the needs of the railroad company you work for upon hiring.
