Absolutely a master 6 stringer!!! One off my top 5 guitarists 🎸 Love his Live in San Francisco album!! My favorite of hid band mate compilations! Stuart Hamm on bass, Eric Caudieux on keyboards & Rythem guitar, Jeff Campitelli on drums,AND still Joe!!😊
Me at 15, 35 years later i still play and it kept me sane for all those years. I cant count how many times i listened to this song. It always fills me with joy.
All satriani's albums are great especially his first seven album's or more are just awesome and out of this world playing his legato and tremolo and tapping are flawless !!! Excellent guitar virtuoso right up there with all the greats ! Which there are way too many to list !!!
He plays in more Major keys in regards to his songs, much much more than Steve Vai. This is why I prefer Joe Satriani. C Major and clever use of modes through this song, giving it that fluent flight feeling. Legato King!
Joseph my friend...you Rock ! Try using a pair of Fender Pro Juniors or Princeton Reverbs ! You'll get a much pure overtone ! Lol ! Me telling a PRO ! Funny !
The best all around rock guitarist alive. Some will refer to some guitarists who can play faster. Who cares? Satch is the best all around rock guitarist alive. I'll say it again.
Always the same absolutely terrific yet always different.. I'm trying to figure out when Joe started to turn down and turning down a half step 1/2 Step? Definitely add something to the tonality of this song
There's a lot of guys that can shred, and are technically advanced but end up sounding uninspiring because they miss the point.....which is musicality. This is what Joe does so beautifully. It's like musical raindrops, raining down calmness, not just a billions notes of pointlessness. Stunning.
You nailed it with your comment. He is just having those notes come out on the guitar having been transferred from his heart to his fingertips to the fretboard to the amp to our ears. I love the fact that every performance I've seen of flying in a blue dream is the same but different. I love how Joe just plays around with certain sections.
What a masterpiece! Every pick, squeal, whammy, and run is articulate and clean as a whistle. His feel is just phenomenal... What a KILLER song, and what a fantastic performance here!!! Thank you for sharing this!!! ❤🔥🔥❤🔥
Bro, does time machine get lost in the sauce or what? That is one of his best fucking pieces of music he ever wrote! What a goddamn Solo in that song! That's one of my favorites from him too
This is a fantastic piece of music. Probably my favourite overall Satriani song. It has all the elements I like about his playing: great melody, song structure and legato.
A guy that looks like a construction worker and an every day Joe keeping it real throughout the decades. Nobody, and I mean nobody can play guitar like Joe Satriani🎉🎉🎉
Never forget how blown away I was by Surfing With The Alien and Flying In A Blue Dream....one of the greats who instructed Steve Vai and so many others.
That is gutsy to play such a tiny and intimate setting like that with just a couple of combo amps, and standing that close to your audience. There is nowhere to hide. Joe is top tier and shows us why in this video. That’s talent and courage!
satriani is still the absolute GOAT of instrumental guitar soloists. Even at 67 years of age playing this song virtually note perfect to the studio recorded version is just incredible.
Flying in a Blue Dream is one of the most beautiful guitar songs you will ever hear. The album is astonishing. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. When I get a little depressed, I listen to this album in its entirety. JS is amazing.
My take on this cut....he's still enjoying his own stuff...genuine craftsmanship. Genuine entertainment. Thanks Joe for all your wonderful productions.
Notice how PRECISE he is EVEN WITH ALL THOSE NUANCES! Tell me you could play this song EXACTLY like this EVERY TIME for DECADES! Get off the toilet people this man is a GOD!

Joe Satriani, I probably listened to this track 1000 times. And have happily fallen asleep flying in a blue dream, going to bed, a 1000 more times with it. I am soooo grateful for the wonderful emotions it has brought to me! Much love, Joe!!!

Satch always put soul and meaning into his solos. I did album art for Shrapnel Records for 25 years. Honestly, I got sick of the shred kids, too many notes without much meaning. Great players but not much to say, most of them.
Sd pick ups- A pleasure to meet someone from Scrapnel records. I thought I was crazy. Or it was a carrot always in front of me. A pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I always felt the same way; the Jason Beckers and especially Ingvie malmstien - great speed and accuracy; but when I heard David Lindley playing Late for the Sky, I wished someone could incorporate a little of both

Amazing joe satriani 🎉
Joe’s always been the best of the shredders, it not just about speed it’s about melody, timing and groove and he had all 3 in spades.

Technical genius! The way he harnesses the feedback is music to my ears
Not sure if it's on this guitar, but he has a signature "sustainiac" pickup that he uses. It produces infinite sustain similar to the handheld ebow.
