He’s my favorite for gear setting, effects and stuff. He always managed to have clear, glassy highs in his leads which is hard to balance with distortion.
Love the mullet haircuts that the band is sporting! I had one too back then. This was just before Joe shaved his head. The mid 1990s; the best of times!!! I had already purchased the album and added it to my other Satriani albums when this was aired. I am now up to 12 albums in my collection as I speak. One of my favorite rock and rollers ever since he came out in 1986.
The extremist..I love that album! Seen Joe 3 times live, he's one of the best rock guitar instrumental composers and players! Been a fan of his for decades!
Satriani changed my life on guitar . Once I herd that sort of stuff through a friend I was hooked for life . I was 15 at the time and I’m now 50 and still hooked on this stuff . I remember going on a bus ,sitting behind the driver listening to surfing with the alien on a Walkman and head phones as a 15 year old kid and the bus driver told me to get down the back of the bus if I was going to listen to that crap . Clearly he was musically ignorant lol. Satriani will be remembered in the same way as Hendrix and EVH when his time comes . He was the true pioneer of rock instrumental guitar and inspired a generation to stay off the streets and hang out in the bedroom practicing practicing practicing . Long live Satriani .
I agree and going 50 too, bought my first Satch album at 15 !!! I always say Satch is my Hendrix, for me. The man who shows me how far we can go with emotions and techniques and love guitar more and more. A master
@@G.u74 This is objectively bullshit. Hendrix is great, but he's not a fraction of the muso Joe is. You can like Hendrix more, but "nowhere near" is 100% wrong as technical/musical education matter.
Came here as a Satriani fan and saw the opening of the video had the "Twin City Queen" riverboat! That is from my hometown of Monroe, LA! My dad's company use to have their Christmas parties on there! Sadly, the local government let the boat fall into disrepair and it eventually collapsed and sank in the Ouachita River.
Changed my life too. His music theory knowledge inspired me to learn more than just licks. Made me a better musician. But he writes with such heart and soul as well.
Thanks for Jay Leno having an instrumental guitar player on the show something g never seen these days, all about the voice voice looks and money, nobody cares about musicians anymore
I captured this set in 1993 on Beta 1...analog...and still have a digital copy...which suffered a bit in the translation. This clean copy was a great find for me. fantastic riffs I tried to learn from. Anyone know the name of the first tune?
I think Jonathan Mover played on tour with him on 1993 (is it him on Time Machine CD2 the live disc?) I just found out video of the 1995 tour where Jonathan is also playing drums, didn't expect that. So it seems like Jonathan toured with him up to the end of 1995 before G3 tour... But why isn't Jonathan on The Extremist, I have no idea
if you replace Jonathan's drums on songs like Time Machine no one will sound like him, and I wonder how the Extremist album would sound with him on drums, would make it even more explosive
aw man... it just makes me a bit sad, for such a moment of celebration like this (specially for a song called "Friends") I just think Jonathan Mover should be there on the drums with him, he was on his side since the very beginning... why wasn't Jonathan there that day? did Jonathan record the Extremist album? because he toured that year right, so was he on the album too? what the hell even happened
It would be pretty easy to just Wikipedia the album and look up under personnel. Since I'm a nice guy i did that for you. The drummer in the video, bissonette, is the drummer on the album extremist. So it makes sense that he's there. Mover, as far as i know is a drummer who was used live for a while but that's it. If you want to talk about a drummer who's always been there, that would be Campitelli, not Mover. So i don't think anything "happened". It's a business, it's professional musicians, not a band, and there are scheduling conflicts etc. So you don't need to be sad about Mover not being there.
Aw...B string out of tune on national TV ;) . This is an awesome find. I watched this day of airing as a kid. I'm almost positive the opening announcer said "musical guest...Joe SATARINI" I was pissed for a week lol

This song makes me love the major scale. Amazing performance as usual by Satch. Thanks for posting.
Remember waiting up,,on a work nite,,blinking away,,and all of the sudden,,wide awake,,,and Dr.satch proves again how great he is😮❤
6:10 - Still amazes me that this tapping section was played live on The Tonight Show!

Hey can play definitely but can nowhere near compose and make songs like Hendrix did.

Summy hagar Said that Joe SATRIANI is Very better than EVH about Melody Guitar...❤
Amen to that brother!

So much more than speed!!! Glad I found this. Ty
Nice sax at the end too
Surfing, Flying, and Extremist - the trifecta of his amazing early albums and peak Satch.
Satriani is the best! Pure joy in his playing
2024 JS still rocking!
Amazing performance. True to the album version in terms of execution, tempo and feel.
Great to see a high quality stereo version of this performance
yes man
Every movement of his fingers is a blessing.
That’s what she said

Wow, never saw this before. This gives me chills, actually almost makes me cry. Thank you so much for sharing! Can't believe this is 30 years ago...
"Well once again, performing Scratch Boogie..." XD
Oh man, listen to the crowd shout the notes along with Joe...
We miss you, Chrome Boy.
😥
The most talented guest on his stage that night or among many other nights
He is undoubtedly one of the guitarists on this show. That cannot be disputed.
My favourite guitarist, always amazing 🙏
Such a chilling vibe ❤
Joe is a pure guitar genius. What caught my attention was that Greg Bissonette was playing drums for him. That dude is a crazy good drummer.
What caught my attention was his huge mullet.
@@ZeusKingOfAllGods It's a good one.
@@jandvadams It's Mulletastic!! His brother Matt on bass is givin him some competition though!
Bissonette brothers were the rhythm section for that whole album! Great stuff.

Rock on Satriani!!!
the 90s... Ive used to wear similar clothes as a teen. Long sleeve black shirt with some crazy stuff and cap.
the best ever!
His phrasing is so unique... Listen closely
Trinta anos conheço o trabalho dele e admiro..sensacional
Rare footage of Joe playing a non tremolo guitar
He played Satch Boogie on a Les Paul recently, check it out.
And with hair.
Rare footage of Joe hitting a wrong note at 3:24
@@tiagoaoa, Thanks. I was trying to remember what song that was. He doesn't need one.
bissonette's drums sound so massive on satch boogie !!
Joe and the Boys!! 👈😎👍
Thank You for sharing 🤘😎🤘
Going to see him next month with vai. :D
The most 90's thing I'll see this week.
Thanks for the upload.
Great guitarist !
Thet reverb is so long on the mix everything is so far away, love satch boogie❤
Tenho este cd ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He looked like he was having a bit of a battle with the first guitar , but when the silver surfer came out on track 2 all was perfect

Friends, from the Extremist album
😂
Yikes. It's his actual band....damn. thanks for the upload
Love that oil finish JS guitar. Just needs a gold Floyd, hardware and of course 24 frets
After Satch Boogie the Tonight Show Band was probably thinking, "What the hell do we do now?". 😂
"scratch boogie"
I saw this air back in the day, and I'm almost positive I remember the announcer calling him Joe SatARINI...get it together, NBC! Lol
Greg Bissonette!!
I do love a good "Scratch Boogie" (@4:24)
Haw, haw, hawww❤
A wonderkind!
6:14 excelente

What the heck is
Scratch Boogie?
Lol 4:25
Jay introduced the song as Scratch Boogie LOL
Joe Rogan is really talented

Didn’t know bissonette drummed for satriani? Did he tour with him? Did he lay drum tracks on this album?
He and his brother played bass and drums on the extremist… and I think they toured with him but don’t quote me on that.

Aw...B string out of tune on national TV ;) . This is an awesome find. I watched this day of airing as a kid. I'm almost positive the opening announcer said "musical guest...Joe SATARINI" I was pissed for a week lol
And, at 4:25 Lenno says ScRarch Boogie
I think “Satarini” was said by Dave Letterman if I remember correctly. I was pissed too! 😆
Johnny Winter on drums
Scratch Boogie???
The bassist and drummer have matching mullets. Sadly, mullets would not survive the mid-1990s.
They are brothers too
Sounds awful tbh
No lyrics = guys a cheapskate.
