Wrong! This video is about comparing graphics and nothing else. The Xbox version has objectively speaking better graphics than the other 2 platforms. It isn't even a fair comparison seeing how the Xbox version is remake running on a newer and better engine. A case can be made for DC vs PS2 though, While overall the DC version looks better I don't like the oversaturated colours, but that on the other hand is subjective. It should also be pointed out that the PS2 version used in this video seem to be the original release of the game, however it was re-released as Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore which had improved graphics. I haven't been able to find any good side by side footage of that version compared though so I don't if it is better or worse than the DC version.
The Dreamcast version is the only one with 480p VGA output, giving it the cleanest picture from the lot. DOA2 was originally released for the NAOMI arcade system, which is basically a beefed-up Dreamcast. It was then released for the Dreamcast, and was then released for the PS2 after that.
The best video output method isn't what this video is about, it is a straight out graphical comparison between Dreamcast PS2 and Xbox. And what's that nonsense about the Dreamcast is the only one with 480p? The Xbox version of the game is 480p as well. The only thing is that you need component cables to get progressive scan on Xbox
The Dreamcast is the only console of that generation with 480p VGA output, which gives superior picture quality compared to the Xbox's 480p component output.
I've played all three of these over the years; the Dreamcast original (back in 2000) looked incredible at the time. After the PS2 version came out I noticed better-looking backgrounds and effects, but the figures had problems with anti-aliasing, so I still preferred the DC version, Another version was released for the DC that added much more stuff, but it was Japan only. The XBox version is clearly going to be superior to either version graphically, but at the time of it's release (2004) I recall hearing that the engine was actually based on DoA Extreme Beach Volleyball's engine. I still own the PS2 version as well as the DoA Ultimate set, and when I get a hankering for some DoA 2, I usually play the XBox version. Now that I think of it...DoA Ultimate also had the original Sega Saturn version of DoA 1, which was Japan-only for the SS but did come out for the original PlayStation. If you have copies of those, maybe you could do a comparison of them.
Well since it seems like nobody else has noticed but on the PSN they've released graphically enhanced version that supports 720p without weird mods and apps and looks just as good as the Dreamcast version.
1:24, 1:50 and 3:37 to 4:02 is proof PS2 has far better lighting. Not only that, but look at the shadowing on the floor. Too bad most people can't see this, they prefer "crisp" resolution on Dreamcast despite the non-existent character lighting (everything looks bright) and overly sharp character shadows as opposed to PS2's natural soft shadows.
I did want to point out that the graphical engine used for DOA2U is a more updated version of DOA3's that was first used in DOAXBV. Which is why if you put both together side by side, they look somewhat different.
Its crazy that they even have an english dub of the game, i always played it on xbox, so i always heard the Japanese voices lol. Would've been cool to have the option to switch between the english or the Japanese voices on ultimate
Pointless comparison - if it hardware related - then its XBOX version wins as its the more powerful hardware and more detailed graphically. From a design ethic tho its the DC version - its best because its the vanilla original, with cleanest design and smooth visuals.
@@pftmclub The Dreamcast was released in 1998 and the PS2 in 2000 and Xbox in 2001. So it only makes sense that its alot more powerful. Back in the day 1 year was a huge difference in technology advancements.

I will always choose crisp and colorfull graphics over some extra effects and polygons. At 4:10, why does the xbox have so much aliasing and moiré going on when both consoles output 480p? Does the dreamcast have anti-aliasing and better texture filtering or is it because of video capture quality?
Hell yeah, Dreamcast is the best over GameCube and PS1! In this, Dreamcast is the clearest, but Xbox has the better colors. Dreamcast's lighting is too high here.
Hard to say if the Dreamcast or PS2 looks better, the image is indeed sharper on the DC, but I think that's because the PS2 version is running in interlaced mode sadly; on the other hand, the lighting looks weird on the DC, it looks like plastic and unnatural somehow, the PS2 looks alot more realistic in some scenes, like 2:04; at the same time, some scenes have that infamous "yellow shader" problem as seen at 3:29.
I do not understand .you are using the VGA box on dreamcast, but xbox and ps2 and? are using the component video cable on xbox?It looks like you are using composite cable on xbox because it is blurry. with the component cable in progressive scan should look better. the xbox has the version with better graphics.
RookerVision - Gaming Videos It is blurred so much that I thought it was composite cable. I also have this game in dc, ps2 and xbox, and in this game the Xbox looks better, better effects, more details, better textures etc, but in the video the Xbox version was ugly, very ugly and blurry ...
I agree. The xbox looks more realistic and graphics are better. The dreamcasts vga cable just makes everything more crisp and not blurry. The dreamcast still can do what the xbox can graphically.
Great video man. I have two suggestions you could add if you haven't already. True crime streets of la (ps2, GameCube, Xbox) and true crime New York City (ps2, GameCube, Xbox).
actually the animated character selector is also available on the Dreamcast, you just need to deactivate the "quick select" option, so it's not true that it's not available on the Dreamcast
The dreamcast has the same character selection animations as the others. It only fades away because of a setting in the options that the dreamcast version has on by default for some reason.
my opinion is that dreamcast version is the best, especially on pc with emulator in 1080 resolution, it's faster and more responsive, plus it's only 777mb, while ps2 is 4.5gb, didn't even bothered with xbox version....
This was not a fair comparison at all. If you used a cable to enhance the resolution on the Dreamcast, why not use the component cable on the PS2 as well?
Dreamcast version all the way for me. As you can edit your own version with Neo Hex editor & adx encoder. Should look up mrgreenranger Dead or Alive 2 Final see the potential!
+CplDwayneHicks11 you can do that even more easily on the xbox version. the xbox version is the best hands down. more characters, much better graphics, more different levels and so on.
Yeah the Xbox still love Tengu season changes amazing effects. I took one best feature from the Xbox version that was Hitomi voice announcer over to my Dreamcast version. You can fully play as Lauren, Helena's mother, Zack's Rabbit on the DC mod & play on unassailable stages like the Desert fully. I really like the original arcade Naomi graphics just perfer the anime type graphics like Tekken 3 before it went "real".
Yeah I get that. I like the Anima style graphics too. Too bad dreamcast went under. I bet if it stuck around they would of made a controller with 2 joysticks and games with better graphics than ps2.
I don't like all the changes they made in the XBOX version, this makes it easy for me to choose the PlayStation 2 version of this game, then I can the Dead or Alive 3 on the XBOX.
DOA 1 and 2 on xbox runs on 3's engine. Because this released after DOA 3, the remakes use the current cannon information, which these changes carry throught the series. The PS2 version is a direct port named "DOA 2 Ultimate."
GTA 3 and GTA Vice City in Xbox are the best. Has better graphics and quality. I have both games and San Andreas in my xbox and looka nice. The only bad point of GTA 3 is the opening is cutted (they show it, but is more short) and the GTA Vice City is the versión of PC ported to Xbox. San Andreas has the worst graphics, are the same as PS2 but with differences.
PS2 should have had 8 MB EDRAM, instead of 4 MB. PS2 actually had 2 MB of textures to work with and Dreamcast had 4 MB of textures to work with. If the Dreamcast was considered "underpowered", how come I don't see a game on the PS2 that is slightly more detailed than Shenmue? With twice the EDRAM, PS2 games wouldn't look dull and run as smooth as other platforms at the time. It would have been slightly more powerful than Dreamcast, graphically and can run Dreamcast games fine. I'm sorry, but that is how I feel.
+DreamStation2 It's weird how the Dreamcast have half as much Main ram but twich as much video ram as the Ps2 lol. I think Sega should have added 4 or 8 more mb of main ram but considering it came out late 1998 in Japan it looks really good.
Animated Freak Impressive it is. Compare Shenmue 2 on Xbox and Dreamcast. I can't believe PS2 missed out on good graphics. It could have been as powerful as mid-range gaming PCs at the time of its release, at least. Just like how 7th gen is compared to gaming PCs at the time of their release.
+RookerVision - Gaming Videos I am really sorry to say this. Can you forgive me? What you are saying isn't relating to what I am trying to brought up. If I say the Dreamcast was the best console, I would have say it myself. I am trying to brought up if the PS2 had the same amount of GPU as the Dreamcast, PS2 games would look different in a good way. Not just the PS2, other consoles like the Xbox and Gamecube on multiplats, as well. PS2 was a powerhouse, but limited on it's GPU. With the same amount of GPU as the Dreamcast, it could have been much more than that. I'm sorry, but that is how I feel.
Wesome vid. Just here to point that on DC you cn get the "boobie shot" in the char select screen by going into options and changing the character select settings.
I know people like to shit on the PS2 version, but I sort of prefer the lighting in it. The characters look a lot darker and their faces are a lot more anime. I really dig the style. Objectively though, yes, Dreamcast and of course Xbox did a MUCH better job, but I have a softspot for the PS2 version.
I personally prefer DOA5 LR in that concept. Sure the game was pretty much remastered for newer gen but everything about it was better than the original... well except for the fake "free" price tag and the 800 DLC 😅
@NV 2A The asian temple arena with the dragon and the balconies is much better in the PS2 version and so on. Overall PS2 has the best atmosphere and furthermore english voice acting.
Interesting how the Dreamcast version is the brightest. Xbox version differences seem to really come down to artistic changes, similar to the PS2. It is curious that they would really even bother with these kinds of changes. A lot of these changes will really come down to personal preference. But I think overall the Dreamcast just has nicer graphics. The Xbox has a bit more detail in places, but then the Dreamcast looks like it has superior texture filtering and seems to be using something like 4xMSAA. But, I think running this game in backwards compatibility will do it wonders to clean it up.
Dead or Alive 2 to me is the original and the winner. Fast boot and fast battles. That was it all about. I got the ps2 and xbox version, but it didn't feel the same to me
I played the Dreamcast version the most and it was the Japanese version which has the unedited intro. Even though Xbox looks better but it doesn't have that hyped "Exciter" Punk/Ska song as the theme. Only on PS2 and Dreamcast.
Personally, I had the game on Xbox besides the rest of the DOA games came to Xbox like DOA 1, DOA, 3 and the Extreme Beach Volleyball. All in one DOA disc pack. The time when Team Ninja was actually cool. Nowadays they repeatedly release the same episode of the game like DOA5 simple edition, DOA5 Ultimate and the Last Round.
As someone who played the Dreamcast version and then bought the ps2 version I'd have to say I liked the dreamcast version better. I hate how the color looks so de-saturated on the ps2. Image might look sharper on Sony's console but it lacks the color and punch the dreamcast had. I really like the xbox version also but I hate how they changed some of the stages during cutscenes. Overall I still think Dreamcast version is the best but that's just me🙂
Xbox is clearly a more powerful system as you can see in the graphics but I feel the dropped the ball whilst porting it to the system. It was more of a remake than a strait port and sadly in my eyes it really lost something. My personal favorite versions was the Dreamcast version and it had lovely clear colorful graphics and played great.
Xbox version is the best no competition. The game looks phenomenal especially with a HD component cable. The Xbox is ahead of it's time. Such a shame that developers chose not take advantage of its power.

Why do you keep going on about video output? It is still irrelevant to topic of the video.
+OmegaDoomX That's awesome. Love that they do that now, of course it sucks it's only digital copies
Correction, and I know this video is already many years old, DOA2U was run on the same engine from DOAX.
I prefer the vivid colours on the Dreamcast and PS2.
Its crazy that they even have an english dub of the game, i always played it on xbox, so i always heard the Japanese voices lol. Would've been cool to have the option to switch between the english or the Japanese voices on ultimate
DoA2 DC (1999) original release, DoA2 U (2004), Team Ninja did a great job remaking the game for the xbox version
Neat stuff as usual, I always played the Dreamcast version, its good to see how it is on other consoles. Oh, and happy new year!
+HitmonleeDeluxe Thank you as always. I only ever played the Dreamcast version up until now.
Dreamcast still was the best console of that era to me
It was!
But it died off so quickly, I wish it had more exclusive games and less ports from the ps1
Pointless comparison - if it hardware related - then its XBOX version wins as its the more powerful hardware and more detailed graphically.
From a design ethic tho its the DC version - its best because its the vanilla original, with cleanest design and smooth visuals.
the xbox is expensive more then 2 other system. of course it's better with money !
@@pftmclub The Dreamcast was released in 1998 and the PS2 in 2000 and Xbox in 2001. So it only makes sense that its alot more powerful. Back in the day 1 year was a huge difference in technology advancements.
@@ZackSNetwork iPhone was weak compared to pc or ps4 but still expensive than 2 of them. So it's always with money
@@pftmclub Why'd you expect console performance out of a phone, iPhone or Androids are meant to be phones, not gaming devices, that was an afterthought, it's not like your gonna be carrying a God damn brick of a phone just to play games. It's about how technology advances not more money = better graphics, stop lying to yourself.
@@AzureQuality are you trying to say better graphics doesn't cost more money?
I really appreciate the attention to detail you put into these videos. Liked and subbed :)
have you considered using Freemcboot on your PS2? there is an app called GS Mode Selector which allows you to force PS2 games from 480p to 1080p.
Wrong! there are animations during the charecter select screen on Dreamcast too, you have to enable it on the options menu....
Now we know he is bias to the XBOX ...
I will always choose crisp and colorfull graphics over some extra effects and polygons. At 4:10, why does the xbox have so much aliasing and moiré going on when both consoles output 480p? Does the dreamcast have anti-aliasing and better texture filtering or is it because of video capture quality?
You were wrong to say that in the version of DC in the Menu the characters have no animations, this can be activated in the game options.
I did it yesterday!
You could do with a good deinterlacing upscaler for the PS2, like the ossc.
The Dreamcast version also has 3D models in the characters selection screen you have to enable it in the options menu......
How?
@@gioacchinofontana5323 in versus option
Hell yeah, Dreamcast is the best over GameCube and PS1! In this, Dreamcast is the clearest, but Xbox has the better colors. Dreamcast's lighting is too high here.
Dreamcast and GameCube are the best
the character select screen is the same as ps2 on dreamcast. you have to turn quick select off in the options
+Danielle Dee True
Ps2 version does actually look better but Dreamcast version looks more clear and less aliasing
If you can, try Xploder HDTV Player on PS2 to force 480p. But be aware, that some games freeze on FMVs.
+TheFred128 I assure you, the Xbox is running on Component, and this is recorded exactly as it was.
RookerVision - Gaming Videos It is blurred so much that I thought it was composite cable. I also have this game in dc, ps2 and xbox,
and in this game the Xbox looks better, better effects, more details, better textures etc, but in the video the Xbox version was ugly, very ugly and blurry ...
I agree. The xbox looks more realistic and graphics are better. The dreamcasts vga cable just makes everything more crisp and not blurry. The dreamcast still can do what the xbox can graphically.
Wrong dream has better anti aliasing
@@TheFred128 wrong dream has better anti aliasing thus its smaller memory gdrom games looked grear
Are y’all INSANE saying the Xbox version was bad? It is STILL ONE OF THE BEST LOOKING FIGHTERS
Xbox version is not a bad one, its just a Remake ...
Great video man. I have two suggestions you could add if you haven't already. True crime streets of la (ps2, GameCube, Xbox) and true crime New York City (ps2, GameCube, Xbox).
+leadfootgamer1 Thank you.. I do have them on the list, and will do them soon. Thanks again
Great video i love all versions of this game,
i have a suggestion, Area 51 or metal arms glitch in the system
+Cazador de almas Thank you, and I'll add your suggestions to my list.. WHoohoo
actually the animated character selector is also available on the Dreamcast, you just need to deactivate the "quick select" option, so it's not true that it's not available on the Dreamcast
if you havent yet do soul calibur 2 comparsion . Please
You should do an update with the Xbox 1X/XSX versions running in 4K something near it.
This was not a fair comparison at all. If you used a cable to enhance the resolution on the Dreamcast, why not use the component cable on the PS2 as well?
The resolution of the PS2 is 480i.....the cable isn't going to change that. The Dreamcast rendered at 480p, the vga just allowed you to see it.
Although I will add.. The dead or alive 2 ultimate’s graphics wise to me is better than DOA3...
I remember being 13 and seeing this at my cousin's house. he did not let me play it however
i still have this game too on xbox, and its one of the main doa games that have full replay value due to the unlockable costumes
yeah, the Xbox version should not be counted, I prefer dremcast 👍, between the PS2 and Dreamcast
It's more or so just too see the differences for fun.
You should use component cable on the xbox . Some games run 1080i and 720p on the xbox :).
+Bicoastal97 I do use component cables. I will say I used old capture device on this video, my new one is lossless quality.
Dreamcast version all the way for me. As you can edit your own version with Neo Hex editor & adx encoder. Should look up mrgreenranger Dead or Alive 2 Final see the potential!
+CplDwayneHicks11 Green Ranger huh, like the power Ranger? That's awesome
+CplDwayneHicks11 you can do that even more easily on the xbox version. the xbox version is the best hands down. more characters, much better graphics, more different levels and so on.
+GraveUypo Gotta say, after playing all of them, I'd say Xbox, Dreamcast, PS2
You should have disabled quick select on Dreamcast in order to get 3D Models on the character select screen like the PS2 version.
The Xbox version wins. Try playing it on an Xbox 360. It looks amazing in widescreen.
The dreamcast backgrounds are more pleasant to look at
XBOX FOR THE WIN HANDS DOWN
I wish I still had this game...
Awesome vid dude, I have a few suggestions:
1. Destroy all humans
2. Mortal Kombat Armageddon
3. GTA3, vice city, San Andreas
4. I-Ninja
+Mellow Dude I'll add them all to the list. Thanks for watching
+RookerVision - Gaming Videos No problem dude. Have a great new year.
San Andreas has the worst graphics, are the same as PS2 but with differences.
even though the Xbox version is technically better I can't help but look at the dreamcast version. that vga output is amazing!
Yeah the VGA hook up is amazing.
+DreamStation2 Dreamcast should never have died, it was a great console
RookerVision - Gaming Videos Yeah, Dreamcast should not die and PS2 should have had 8 MB EDRAM.
Funny to see how 100% supportive to the Dreamcast the comments are..But the real score was still this :
157 - 9
Are you going to do a Mortal Kombat video?
Dead or Alive 2 for the Dreamcast reign supreme, not only by the graphics but the unique content as well.
I personally prefer DOA5 LR in that concept. Sure the game was pretty much remastered for newer gen but everything about it was better than the original... well except for the fake "free" price tag and the 800 DLC 😅
dead or alive ultimate looks awesome on xbox 360 :)
The dreamcast version really pops but I thought this game could go up to 1080i on the xbox or was that just DOA1 that came with DOA Ultimate on xbox?
I've Got an Question. ¿How Do You Get Kasumi With the big Ponytail in The Dreamcast Version? When i play she Has An Small One.
Late night browsing in the msx store and just bought DOA 3 for 16bucks
turn off quick select on dreamcast, and the character select screen will be the same as the ps2 and xbox. i hope you edit that...
The Xbox version is just stunning
PS2 best version, best arenas!
@NV 2A The asian temple arena with the dragon and the balconies is much better in the PS2 version and so on. Overall PS2 has the best atmosphere and furthermore english voice acting.
@NV 2A Yes! Graphics is not everything. PS2 wins!
thanks for the great comparison!
No problem. Glad you liked it.
Thank you very much. Thank you for watching. - Jurassic Ninja
Xbox version is the best. I like the ninja gaiden costume
Hayabusa's original outfit can be obtained in the Xbox version
I personally like the PS2 version best, the contrast on the Dreamcast version can be intimidating.but I can see why people likeit
2:21 lmaooo why i laughed so hard 😭
bought this on psn as a ps2 classic, It looks pretty good upscaled to 1080p stretched with smoothing on :)
No stretched! Use the original aspect ratio if playing it on a BC PS3.
and you got a new subscriver, awesome content
Sweet thank you. New episode is almost done
Every knee in the Multiverse will bow down before Zack the Only One True God, eternally!!!
dreamcast
Isn't Dreamcast Awesome. I love it
i have a PS2 i love it, but Sega DC is Sega DC
+Pleomax (Pleomax75) couldn't have said it better myself.
Xbox version is the best no competition. The game looks phenomenal especially with a HD component cable. The Xbox is ahead of it's time. Such a shame that developers chose not take advantage of its power.
The Xbox biggest advantage was its shaders, HD conponent cable and basically being a PC. This made it the easiest to port and develop games on.
