That Lonely Island: an Otherside Story I don’t remember the days that came before, but all I do know is I exist and nothing more, my purpose is undefined and ambiguous. Yet it’s calming to know there is nothing more beyond this infinite sea and this island to where I rest. I love to touch the grass, my caustic hands can’t hold the blades for long but just enough to feel something. The stars at night give me feint memories of a life not lived, like I was once someone else, but they’re too fuzzy. In the mornings, I watch the Goldfins migrate in huge congregations, their shiny metallic bodies leaping from the water and crashing down in spectacular displays of beauty and power. On some months it gets cold. My island expands and sun feels cold. On some nights when the stars fall down I hold them carefully in my hand. I love the intricate patterns they make; they’re all different but beautiful nonetheless. Rain is always nice. I like how it flows off my ashen skin, cleansing me of any misdoings I might have done in my past. Was I destined to stay here on this island forever. If so, then I’m okay with that. I love my island and all that came with it, but the crushing loneliness that looms over my every waking moment, year after year, gives me such dread for what I am. Who I am. But does that matter? In a world where it’s nothing but me and the island and the infinite sea around us, I look to the stars as my only companions. (Hello, sorry I haven’t continued Dreams for a while, this was a bit different from that I’d say. I think my issue is that I’m not motivated to work on that story anymore… “I” loved talking to “you” about this world I created, but I’ve exhausted the ideas I had. If someone wants to continue working on Dreams I officially hand over the reigns to you. For now, I will be writing short stories for what I actually want to do. You went through hell and back. Thinking when was it ever going to happen. It does. Nothing but joy. Happiness. Relief. All come into existence in your life.
It's all fucked, isn't it? We can experience genuine joy out of someone else's expression. But a lot of the time, these expressions we revel in are born out of so much pain. One could argue that pain is necessary for the enjoyment of such a track. Can there be beauty without pain? It's amazing tracks like these that tell me the answer is no. And so we suffer. For beauty.
