Z Review - PSA V1500 & S1500 Subwoofers

- They are Big, Heavy, Ugly and Expensive. Just how I like my audio equipment! [www.powersounda...] Like I said in the video I prefer the S1500 but the V1500 can get louder and lower. If you are un-sure, the Sealed unit is the way to go.
I don't think the poor tascam was up for this challenge so don't think this is the best recording of thousand dollar subs you can hear on youtube. You really have to be here to understand.
Thank you for doing this review! There really aren't that many videos on PSA subwoofers and it's unfortunate because it seems like their stuff is pretty amazing!
That 725 watts is RMS power (continuous power) at 1% distortion, burst power is probably more than that. Great review by the way. I have a "modified" V1500 in my bedroom and I love it. I had an XV15 in there before, which I use as my home theater sub now, and I had an XS15 before that. V1500 definitely sounds the best down low. You should talk to Tom at PSA and try to get a V3600, I would love to see your reaction to that lol
It should be 960W not 725W..
Your video just convinced me to buy a *V1500.* Anyone who has this, watch *Don't Breathe* and prepare for your entire house to shake! It was so awesome, I'm getting another one! :D
The most entertaining and probably one of the best review from Z Awesome
I have a V1500 and I absolutely love it...I have it in a small 15x12 room and it is more than enough at only 20% gain ! I replaced a Velodyne DEQ-15R (that I used to think was impressive) with this and it was a surprisingly unbelievable difference...seriously, for the cost of the PSA, it is am AMAZING value...highly recommend 😆
Is the vented PSA really too much per your experience?
I’m trying to decide which one to get - S1500 or V1500
im never living in an apartment i love bass too much.
Dude when will you review that cat? If not within a week, I'm totally gonna unsub.
Have your neighbors started plotting your eviction yet?
I always love the honesty in your videos and how you know that the ported version is 'too much' for your environment and you're willing to admit that. Some people just BS and say more more more but you genuinely know the limits :) I have a homemade 10" sub ported box running just 80W RMS (I'm not as crazy as you ;) )and when I tell people they say it's not enough but no one that's come over to watch movies has ever told me to turn it up because it does it's job. I tell them its only a 10" and under 100W and they can't believe it.
I thank you for your review of the product. I have a pb2000 and I want to upgrade it. I spoke to Tom on power sound and I'm pretty much sold on upgrading to either the 15 or 18 ported. Your video makes me want the sealed but I've always had ported. Thank you
Phillip Simmons did you end getting one of this babys?
I’m trying to get something but that scares me.. 14x13 bedroom I think is way too much..
But your pb-2000 could be great ...
could you tell me some experience about it?
Being in UK $950 is sooo cheap for a sub of that calibre. In fact the PSA 15'' sealed is £1250 over here:(
Your mic must be decent, on my headphones (philips X2) I can actually hear the deep bass and it sounded like an earthquake!
great video, makes me resolved to get sealed subs for my setup
I just got an S1500 for $600; absolute beast (though I would have like more cabinet bracing/damping, it vibrates a tad, it weighs ~63lb while the sealed 15” Rythmik’s weigh ~105lb).
My room is about 1200 cubic feet and I'm not a normal human being.. I guess you know which one I'll be getting.
You are a wise man!
I love your cat so cute.
I just recently bought SVS Ultra bookshelves and a SB13 Ultra. My bedroom is only 14x12x8. My brother was in our bathroom about 15~ feet away, he said almost the same as what you said about the ported version. I have to admit though, the finish on this sub compared to PSA is a big difference. The high gloss piano black SB13U is intimidating. I still have to do a subwoofer crawl though. This sub is a 17-1/2" cube and weighs like 95lbs.
Hey z reviews question for you what did you like better the psa or the rhythmic? What had the more tactical feel ? I’m debating 2 psa v1812 or 2 rhythmic fv15hp awesome channel by the way keep up the good work my friend !
Thanks Chris
I bet your neighbors just loooove you. :D
Dead men tell no tales.
Deaf men hear no tales. :)
Building my own subwoofer using a Stereo Integrity HT18. Not sure to go ported or sealed and this video is choosing that decision for me. Thank you.
Afistnu Sealed are much easier to deal with and you sort of overstep the limitations when you build your own. Bigger, badder sealed subs beat smaller, weaker ported.
I guess the GoPro makes them look smaller.
I didn't understand how big these are until i saw the RCA cables at the back :P
You can open your windows to create a port, so that way your apartment can work as a sub :P
theodoro89 Well does that screen look 8' wide? Never does.
Hello, great review. I am considering PSA 15V. When you said the Sealed is better for "normal" size room, could you define what size or Cu feet are you talking about ? As it could be relative. So basically beyond what Size of room you would start recommending this Ported sub over this Sealed sub ? Thank you again!
Personally endorsed this video as I purchased insanity... Thanks for the great review.. I can't stop watching interstellar!!!
You have a fantastic microphone!
What do you think of the PSA S3601 subwoofer? Dual opposed 18" subs in a sealed cabinet.
Excellent review. Can you please tell me what projector screen you are using? Looks fantastic
Epson 8350. No longer in production unfortunately.
holy shit, I watched the same scene, my sub can't even reach the volume that yours are playing at. watching your recording its quite a bit louder. I bet it felt like you were right underneath those thrusters
Did reruns of all your sub reviews. Ordering dual S1500s to be shipped to Japan!
Still a great deal after $800 shipping!
You paid $800 for shipping or did you mean $800 after shipping?
I got 2 S1500s delivered to Japan for $2700 in a custom espresso finish which was a $500 upgrade. So, $1100 delivered a piece to Japan in black. Still saved over $1600 from buying locally in Japan.
Yakena1 Ah I see, congratulations on your purchase. Quite the setup.
Wonderful video. Why do you prefer S1500 vs V1500? and which one has the lowest distortion when playing music and how do they sound when you played music with them?
Sealed is almost always a better experience with music. Just reacts faster.
I was going towards sealed, until someone said if you are going to use the sub for both music and movies then go for ported. Any thoughts in that comment?
Also, what brand of cables are you using for your system?
Can you share your impressions about this sub for this video versus perhaps dual SVS SB 2000? I myself am leaning towards sealed subs but I don't want to miss anything with regards to home theater movies giving enough rumble ! I appreciate your input!!
Love the reviews and subs most of all.i have a M&k thx 350 dual sub in a push pull design.i would like to know what is the best sub you have tested.i would like to buy or build a awesome sub.possibly with a re 15" speaker.do you have any input.there are not a lot of diy home theater sub builds to get info for.lots of car audio stuff but not much home theater.
I love my PSA sub, thanks for the recommendation!
hahah love the cat stand, i have 3 cats and they all have their own personality, i have one who is afraid of the subwoofer and one who brushes all up against it...to funny, say hello to your kitty for me! great review
I have a v1500 and that baby hits! I'd hate you as a neighbor. Neat setup!
Thank you very much for the equipment reviews, I find them entertaining and informative. Also, it appears we both own much of the same equipment. One critical comment for you - the movie 'Intersteller' switches from letterbox to 16x9 aspect ratio. The scenes in space, and the scenes on the baseball field, are in 16x9, so how do you watch this movie correctly?
rahimi5 I have determined that Christopher Nolan, the brilliant director that he is... can suck an egg. I put the 2.35:1 scenes to full on my screen and let the imax stuff get cropped out. You don't miss much. It is really distracting on a normal TV and if I leave the movie playing small and in the middle of my screen to accommodate the tall bits it looks plain silly. I think if all movies were done like interstellar (and the dark knight etc) I would have had to do a 16:9 screen instead of the scope screen. Since they aren't, I didn't.
I thought my HD681 EVO's were gonna die from that bass LOL!
PSA vs the diy you did as far as cost to performance ratio?
Well I just ordered from their outlet a XS-30se. I am looking forward to it in my 10x18x8 room.
PSA = Power to Summon the Authorities !
Hi would realy need dome help deciding what subwoofer to choose. I have a 1450 Cubic feet movie room. 99% movie watching.
I run dual svs pb2000 to day but i want more chest punch (slam) have tried them åt diffrent places in the room but can't get the punch that i would like..:-(
And now im looking at dual PSA V1500 or PSA V1801 against Dual SVS PB13-ULTRA.
Hope you can help me deside wich ones to go with..
And i now dual betwin these Ones.. :-) yes im crasy..:-)
Your doing a great jobb.. 👍
Best regards Peter
I'd get dual PSA V1811. It will give you the most chest punch out of the 3.
Psa s1801 (s1811) or svs sb16-ultra/ sb4000
What would you have shosen..? And why..?
Best regards
In the MT-110 review you mentioned you wouldn't recommend the SVS subs with that setup and that you would cover it in this video, but I don't think you got to it. What's the issue with those subs?
+Ken Draper It isn't a real physical issue it is just that the guy who makes these subs use to work for SVS.. He was actually the V in SVS and left because of a difference of opinion on where the company was going. So you can use any sub you like with the MT110's.
+Z Reviews Cool, gotcha, it sounded something like that. I've got an SVS PC12-NSD in my living room but haven't decided on the dedicated HT setup yet. Considering MT-110s or similar. What'd you end up settling on for HT?
That's interesting, I know I'm trying to decipher bass from youtube and my headphones but the vented definitely didn't sound as good as the sealed. If it's the room node you were talking about it's very prevalent. Thanks for the review though.
you should have stacked them differently when you switched as the room acoustics would change for the sub that is closer to the floor vs the sub higher off the ground
Do you think it's better than a rhythmic audio of 25 call that company and see if you can do one for them one of the videos I'd really like to see it they say they're the best!!!... thanks
Zeos need to get your hands on JTR 4000
I was referring to the projector screen not to the projector.
What screen are you using?
i'm beetwen PSA S1500 and Rythmik FVX15 for movies in my living room 12x15 open to the kitchen, i live in a condo, so i can't listen to refference levels...what do you pick in my case?
I did pick the Rythmik. Works great.
I have a 2500 cubic foot room and I eventually want to get duals but I will start with 1 subwoofer for now. So dual S1500 or dual V1500? I would say 60% is for movies.
The V.
Just noticed your fancy new logo, slick my man...just like downtown.
JohnnyBoy101 it reminds me of Kill Bill.
those woofers are perfect for my ass hole neighbors
Doesnt the vented subwoofer give you a more muffled less clear sound?
No. It's louder in the range of frequencies that the port is tuned to, the downside is that it can then have a rolloff in output in other frequencies, and port noise if not designed correctly. Generally ported subs require a larger box, but operate more efficiently in their tuned range compared to sealed. This is why some of the better sub manufacturers include plugs to cover one or both ports so you have more tuning options for your room/room placement/tastes. Checkout this video comparing a single svs vs dual klipshe's, importantly you'll see how the SVS port was tuned: watch?v=UjLehLSxXJk
I have a much larger room than you that opens up in the rear to the rest of the house. I own a Outlaw rr2150 reciever and swan diva 6.1 for my mains and a svs pc12 nsd sub. Do you think the v1500 would work well in my 2.1 setup?
If you place it right and don't expect too many spots to be perfect I think one big sub like the V1500 could do it.
thank you
Hey Z, i want to upgrade from a Tannoy ts 500 12 sealed subwoofer. To a klipsch R-115SW 15 inch subwoofer. It's only 584 euro's in europe. While the PB-2000 is like 900 euro's. The PSA V1500 or S1500 aren't for sale here. Do you think the klipsch is a good buy?
Not knowing it personally. I will assume YES it is a good deal.
+Z Reviews Thanks for your time, still.
oh right..the worm hole, speaker killer scene
This is what i suspected , those insane subs ported can be a little too much.
How big are those drivers? Those units produce real "man bass".
+Jamieius Rowlando 15"
Which would you recommend for a dedicated theater room. 18x14 with 10 foot ceilings? 1 door, no windows
+bigmixx Assuming movies the ported unit will do the lowest lows the best.
+Z Reviews ok.... Now if I wanted to go with dual subs would you still recommended the ported version or would they just be insane? I do not want insane but I do want kick in the chest bass
+bigmixx THAT makes it a bit harder. I'd probably consider the dual sealed PSA's. However with a budget that high you can also consider one of these [www.rythmikaudio.com/FV15HP.html] or even the SVS PB13ultra [www.svsound.com/collections/ported-subwoofers/products/pb13-ultra]. But I still like the idea of dual subs better.
+Z Reviews Ah. Ok. I've been all over the place lately. My budget is between $1500-$2000 for dual subs. I'm somewhere between these on the high end and The SVS PB-2000 on the low end. I just don't know what I should do. My theater is about 3-4 weeks from completion so I have nothing to compare at the moment. Thanks a bunch for the advice. Love the channel
Z Reviews you have hands down the best reviews; I’m laughing my butt off at some of the things you say. Anyways, I have a 1,350 cubic ft room sealed off, ground floor suspended over crawl space. I’m considering Rythmik FV15HP, FV18, dual F15HP, or PSA dual S1512. 75% movies 25% music. I want to feel the tactile low notes and the mid bass chest slam, but I’m not interested in shaking my house apart.
Which did you prefer SVS Ultra or these?
Ultra is a beast. These are beasts. These don't get AS beast as the ultra but are half the cost.
Where do you purchase these products? From psa themselves? amazon?Bestbuy?
powersoundaudio.com
You won't find these in stores. The best speakers and subs out there have cut out the middleman in the stores and sell direct to you over the internet so for the price you pay, more of your dollars goes to an actual product and performance instead of marketing.
what do you think of stereo subwoofer setup. how do you set them up?
My stereo subs are run off the preout of my receiver. Left and right separate. Matched on either side. It varies per speaker of course. I love it.
Maybe you can help me out. I have two Polk Audio PSW110 subs under a set of Cerwinvega d2 powered by a Sherwood rx-4109. Do the subs need inputs on both its left and right speaker level inputs to work the best? currently its set up that each sub is only getting left or right channel inputs respectively. Sound is good for music but OK for movies. I have a large spike in sound at 40hz then nothing below 30hz. Particularly disappointment with the Interstellar rocket lunch scan with these. Love your videos by the way, stated binge watching this week.
How would these compare to the svs 4000 series?
Lmao, you are like a kid that just received it's Christmas present.
Can you develop your comment about bass developing in another video...very interesting that didnt like the V1500
i wish i was satisfied with this little bass. nope, i run 2 yamaha dual 15" concert subs on about 1,500 watts apiece. neighbor 4 houses down complains of rattling windows
How does it compare to SVS?
bruh, my walls are shaking from those beasts, better turn down my phone before the cops come knocking
Those subs make my Outlaw Ultra X-12 seem entirely inadequate.
CJRhoades You may be projecting your inadequacies onto the audio equipment. Fight the urge to buy that corvette.
Z Reviews Corvette?! Never. I drive a Subaru....
...not that I could afford the 'vette if I wanted one. You're probably right.
you reviewed the sealed sub with it on top of the other sub ??!!
+worstalentscout When I did my crawl I found that up slightly off the floor was where it sounded the best so the top sub actually had an advantage.
V1500 or svs pb2000? Or are they even on the same level.. Movies mostly...
+Matt Burns The V 1500 is the more monster sub. The PB2000 is good for a 12" but it can't best a 15"
Well shit.....I just bought 2 V1500's for my room that is slightly bigger than yours....Guess I will have plenty of headroom....
Hey Ben, how's your 2 V1500's treating you now?
I've got two PSA XV-30Fse's for a 1500 cubic foot theater and they will send you to the chiropractor after watching Interstellar.......
I want to watch Mad Max Fury Road with that sub and speakers....
KrishKrusher I have the soundtrack. It is pretty brutal.
I bet your neighbors wasn't happy about that haha. :)
Ahahahha love it I just ordered dual tv1812's should be OK 👌
Listening on my Adam A77X monitors and shit is rattling around the room. Sick.
Hmm, I have 2 PSA XV-15's (older versions of this ported box), and I consider the output "adequate" - hahahahah. I guess I'm not normal.
After all your videos - first one I noticed your screen down!!
Great video have you done any reviews on any diy subs like the stereo integrity HST 18 or the Dayton ultimax um18-22. These subs with a inuke amp get higher numbers. It would be nice to see a comparison.
ua-cam.com/video/T4CNy2bHo5k/v-deo.html Haven't done a full review yet.
$1000? What's one thousand dollars for a sub like this? It's nothing. My sealed 10" REL cost me $1000 and it can't do a third of what this bad boy does.
sky But that Rel did risk the destruction of your marriage did it.
Yeah, it didn't, cause I'm not married. Funnily enough, that REL is my girl's favorite part of the sound system... It's not like I'm complaining that much, it really is pretty and sounds wonderful with music, it just doesn't have the kind of dB output one would expect for the money.
Just wondering, is your cat deaf yet?
What.. WHAT.. She never answers.
Sweet Jesus, I need one of those bastards
you robbed me of my joy. whyd you move the cat?!!?
SVS PB13 Ultra PSA S1500
Which one is better??
MKG The ported version V1500 is better than the PB13-ultra
Not really a fair fight, The S1500 is the sealed version, Either the SB13 ultra vs S1500 or PB13 ultra vs V1500
I want 20 of them so I can see if I can demolish a building with bass
subwoofers aren't kosher
I think i'll stick with my two vintage 12's..
you should start doing car audio as well :D
TEAMBIC1 But it is hot out there. And my 97 Corolla has enough image issues without my throwing in a bangin' setup in and making the trunk fart. Although I am a big proponent of using home audio in cars.
haha I've seen people use dayton audio their car and they say it sound nice
Vented all the way!! You need a real house!
Z Reviews Watch some of ***** 's videos. You said specifically that over 100db below 25 you get a little crazy. His vehicle can go near 140db i believe at around 23,24hz range. And peaks at 159+ db. I want to see some home audio sub setup pull that off.
+collinbpeep Haha a fellow basshead, Exo's setup is very impressive, it's really hard to compare car audio to home theater audio because the environments are so different, and Exo's setup is pretty massive compared to most home theater setups, also the room inside of his SUV is a lot smaller compared to a big room so it's much easier to have a lot of volume in a smaller space, I may be wrong about a lot of stuff I just said but whatever xD
+ㅤ ㅤㅤ ㅤ oh yes I know. a car audio setup that *could* hit 150+db is probably minimum few thousand dollar investment, whereas a home audio setup to hit those numbers would be insanely expensive (millions?). not to mention the room design. I know it'd be near impossible, but very, very cool.
I love car audio and home theater audio, it's insane how some people build systems that can hit 170's and 180's, lol it would definitely take a lot of money to hit those numbers with a home theater system
The sealed version or an outlaw x12 in a 3000 sq ft room? Thanks
Vented is usually better in larger rooms such as yours.
Sealed box is good booming
this subs make the martin logans seem like crap
ziggy8757 They do.. But I love them all the same.
That can't be good for the ears.
We have liftoff!
Testing a sub with it sitting in the middle of the room. roflmao
It wasn't ideal placement for use but for the video it served. Plus with that much sub room modes bend the knee.
It hurts my feelings to see someone with such choice gear listening in such an odd room with zero sound treatment :(
Honestly I know what treatment I need. But my word something about the rooms shape or carpet doesn't DO what I have heard bad rooms do. It is like a little miracle space
Z Reviews I've watched a few of your videos now, this one being the first and I really like your reviews bud. I am merely an amateur, but in my opinion, you literally did a short demo of some of the problems that arise from odd shaped rooms and no treatment in this particular video. I am super jelly and would trade you in a heartbeat, make no mistake, I think I've just had to polish turds so much so far that I've really had great success in my little "theater room" and a few friends' rooms.
basically squeezing every little bit out of lower end gear as I slowly upgrade is what I mean by polishing turds btw
well the sub isn't suppose to be dead center of the room. My newer sub reviews it stays in the sweet spot.
Watch out. the cat might scratch that.
Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!
ur cool
Both are quite small :-)
Damn I am speakerless
