What’s sad about this movie is how real it is. Some people are dealt a rough hand by life. They’re basically thrown away and don’t belong anywhere, have nowhere to go and no future to look forward to. They’re just existing. Some people say that where you’re at in life is 100% on you and your own responsibility and a result of your own decisions, but what about people like these two characters who weren’t really given a chance at life?

Can't believe no nobody posted anything in this scene. the legendary Beah Richards (1920-2000) at her best. A powerful black actress nominated for an Academy Award in 1968 for her motherly portrayal in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? (1967).

If I may ask, do you like Homer and Eddie the movie?

She was also a poet, dancer, civil rights activist, and musician which was discussed in the HBO biopic Beah: A Black Woman Speaks directed by Lisa Gay Hamilton (co-star of Beloved). Look at other powerful performance: Beauty and the Beast, The Great White Hope, Hurry Sundown, In the Heat of the Night, and Take a Giant Step.

My brother and I are trying to get a group of people to come together to reach out to Whoopi Goldberg and Jim Belushi on the story behind this film. It is so bizarre, bleak and one of a kind. Would anyone like to join us and hopefully we can get a hold of one of them and find out more about Homer and Eddie!

I would be interested in knowing the story behind the film too. It's really unique and odd but beautiful. It was written by Patrick Cirillo who hasn't done many movies. He wrote a Bruce Willis movie called Tears of the Sun in a couple of TV movies and that's it.

@@carter358 Thank you so much for responding to this! I’m so happy someone else feel the same way too about this very unique. I’ve tried DMing Jim Belushi and Whoopi Goldberg several times on Instagram with zero luck… maybe with your help we can solve the mystery

It's been so long since I've seen this movie... I only saw it as a kid around 10 years old.
I thought Eddie's mother was just a sad woman waiting to die... I never considered the implications of both poverty and mental illness...
    I should revisit this movie...

I agree with you. I liked a lot of the movies she did in the 80s, like this one, and Burglar. Now I wish she just stayed in the 80s.
