When I was a little kid me and my twin sister really adore this movie and we didn’t really understand it but we did understand that he was white and then he ended up being black and it was just funny for us to watch because the way his mental actually changed by the end of the movie it was just so funny to us when we were kids even though we really didn’t understand it but I guess deep down inside we did. But thank you for posting this this is one of my favorite movies of all time and my mother and father used to have as watching it and I’m 36 now so
@@paschetime787 Thanks. Yes, it helped me out. And it attacked issues and stereotypes that are still sadly prevalent today. I really love a lotta of these kinda early 70's. They made you laugh and think.
T.V.'s "Chico & the Man" trivia: Originally Freddie Prinze was cast to play the role of "Della." Producer James Komack, of course, eventually awarded the part to the behemoth Della Reese who had invented Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in the autumn of 1967 during her convalescence from a trampoline accident.
Say what? Freddie Prinze was cast in the role of a woman? Please clarify. Also, please give the source that says Della Reese invented Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Because ... I don't think so.
Was it suppose so everyone knew it was a black man even regardless of his voice? bcuz just look at his face, GREAT movie, though a piece of american history.
@DaMostEnigmatic The studio wanted to go with a white guy and then put him in blackface...but the director argued that since the main character was going to be black for most of the film, why not cast a black actor? And blackface had been around since movies began--it was time to give whiteface a chance.
Superb movie and funny but ending was extremely sad that a wife would leave her husband of so many years just because he turned black she must have been racist at first if my wife turned black i would not stop loving her to get $100000 dolar for a $47000 dollars house first class even if he had split the money he could have bought a good house in a good neighbourhood rather than buy in a dangerous place that needed bars on the window sad ending disappointing ending
Is this movie supposed to be a parody of tv sitcoms? The house looks like a sitcom set, the breakfast scene dialogue was sitcom-style, and like most tv sitcoms, the dialogue is all put-downs and back-talk. Jeff is as boorish as Archie Bunker and George Jefferson.
Watched the whole movie again today. This joint was so far ahead of its time it made my eyes water.
RIP to Godfrey Cambridge, and the incomparable Melvin Van Peebles..

The exact same for me! I was 12, and didn't understand anything. Later in life, I GOT it. Thanks.
@@jeffryhammel3035 lol exactly… I show friends this movie now and they can’t believe how innovative it was

When I first saw this movie as a kid, I did not realize it was Godfrey Cambridge in white face makeup.
Thank you for posting. It’s been forever since I’ve seen this.
this is where eddie murphy and wayans bros got it from
So very true
One of the funniest movies that I ever seen 😂

So he was gonna play a dual role on the show? And Della was gonna be a Hispanic woman?
Shout out MF Doom for sampling this movie, I never would have known otherwise
*everybody at once* "OH SHIT"
3:14 -- "Eric Moran" in the credits. And, sure enough, that's Joanie Cunningham from "Happy Days" sitting next to the main character.
8:04 looks like Dan Akroyed from “The Blues Brothers” on the mini bike.
I appreciate this
His wife is Roseanne's mom.
Yes
I was wondering where I recognised her from.
why cant we have more movies like this?
Because we live in a soft, butthurt culture.
I'm writing one now....
Because race scripts are divide and conquer for the rich
@@LW7333LW that’s great, how is that coming along?
Major Hochstetter(Howard Caine)from Hogan's Heroes is in this!
Haha this movie was crazy .
Facts....Dave Chapelle could remake this....
did dave chappelle get his chuck taylor character from this guy perhaps, mmmm?
Watch out mohamed alli 😅😅
this really is something
Good movie
Erin Moran from Happy days!
Good ole movie. Surprised no one cried about racism. That's good. Most people are tired of hearing it
??? The movie is literally about racism. It's dealt with in a comedic way.
..i found out about this film from a board game..........
What board game lol
@@GeronFletcher probably trivial pursuit classic movie addition .
How he smoke if he’s a health nut?
He didn't actually smoke, he was pretending
Because it was 1970?
one sec.... if hes black then who had to add extra white makeup to his arse to make it look LESS tanned on the sunbed?
great job :/
Probably a white stunt man

Weird to see Howard Caine in a role other than Hochstetter!

Pretty much. This movie came out a year before Norman Lear unleashed "All In The Family".
This is the scariest movie I have ever seen!!! To wake up one morning and find myself being black...the horror!!!!!!!!!!!
I would actually like to wake up another skin color.

Godfrey Cambridge was up to it but the script ultimately failed him. Halfway through, you'll want it to end.
Disagree funniest, movie I ever seen !
