I've been waiting for a new upload. Thank you for continued activity on here. I love the alla prima paintings! It's so impressive too. Such a good control of those colours.
I have explained my palette on a few demos, you might have to look for it a little. I don't use thinner, just refined linseed oil. As for the canvas, it was already primed at purchase.
Thank you Brandon. I did used acrylic before, but not as much as I would enjoy to work on as oil. Some people like the fact it dries very fast, but in my case, I like to control the speed for the paint to dry, instead for the paint controls the painter. The color of the oil are more rich then acrylic, that's another reason I prefer oil over acrylic.
OH..! DIOS MIO ...!!!! .....ÉSTA HERMOSURA DE TRABAJO Y A LA PRIMA ÉRES ÚN " BENDECIDO POR DIOS " .....MAESTR ME TIENE BOCA ABIERTA.. . TE DESEO MUCHA VIDA Y SALUD.......Y SUMALE TÚ BUEN GUSTO MUSICAL.!!!!!!✌👑
Que maravilla de pintor eres Zimou queremos pintar como tu aca en Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) .Queremos seguir tu ejemplo y enriquecer el arte pintando retratos a la prima....muchas gracias por estas enseñanzas
i would have never thought that such purplish colors can work and yet you made it work so wonderfully. Love how the splash of yellow on the cheeks works to soften it while still staying distinct. Oh and superb song choice!
- Wspaniale! Lubię obrazy gdzie bardzo wyrażnie zaznaczone jest światło i ciekawe efekty kolorystyczne z nim związane. Malarz ciągle szuka ciekawego światła.
I paint in an entirely different method , so much so that I cant understand what I just saw you do . It is excellent but alien to the way I was taught to paint .
Great, thanks for sharing Zimou , by the way the great music is : Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 -Orchestra- by the great Hungarian composer Frank Liszt- Hungarian:(Liszt, Ferencz).(October 22, 1811 - July 31, 1886).
This is SO AMAZING. I haven't seen an oil portrait artist this inspiring ! Thank you for the emotions I felt ! What is your main palet for your portraits ? and do you mix colors before starting to paint or on the go ? THANK YOU !!!!
what thinners and mediums do you use and what do you prime your boards or canvas with? White colours do you put on your palette-sorry for all of the questions
only use thinner if youre going to do something with lots of precise drawing, like architectural Renaissance or so. (and maybe they didnt even used any thinner! besides the oil) always on latter layers only oil and pigment. (tube painting maybe with little oil). try a very simple palete, burnt umber, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, yellow naples and yellow cadmiun), vermillion or cadmiun red and thats it!
Hello, I'm a massive fan of your work and time lapse videos. I have watched so many of your videos multiple times. I was wondering whether you could tell me what camera you used to shoot this? After a few preliminary videos of my own paintings, using an app on my phone, I am thinking of upgrading and getting a camera (ideally one that also takes decent stills, as I broke my compact camera) - but there is a vast and confusing amount of information confronting me when I try to search for what is best online - camera/camcorder, dslr/bridge camera/compact canon with chdk and so on. I would really appreciate your thoughts if you have the time. Thanks, Jen
Buongiorno , vorrei farle una domanda : per la tecnica alla prima sono necessari colori molto densi? La ringrazio se mi puo' rispondere, e complimenti per la sua arte.
Thank you for sharing my video Julio. If anyone is interested, you can go to vimeo.com/ondemand/11210/88198017 it is a full length lecture how to see and think to be from an artist's view of the subject, and how to draw your subject. Enjoy!
do you paint that wet on wet or do you let the different layers dry (for ,let us say, "some minutes)? Or are you constantly using more medium to make the paint fatter?
Hello Jose, I do have online demos, you can go check out on Kondoot . com, you can learn about my method of thinking and technique to compose your work.
Well, if the artist makes a nice living, he has the duty to pass knowledge to newer generations, no point in being greedy. If rembrandt, velazquez, vermeer, etc wrote about their secrets, our classical painters today would paint even better, and wouldnt had to hunt like mad for recipes, technique, etc. we actually went backwards in painting.
figure it out for yourself. an artist should go by trial and error. a man works to hard figuring out what works for him to just give his knowledge away for free.
That's stupid. All the great artists throughout history have had great teachers. If they didn't they are liars. There's a difference between learning and blindly fumbling because you're a beginner.
Wonderful painting !!! Well done !!!
Absolutely wonderful. Well done.
Great effect with that backlighting! Beautiful!
i love all your works
You humbles me.

Always an inspiration. Good going.

Hello Jennifer, the videos were captured by a Canon G series camera, it is small but allows you to take videos and pictures. Hope that helps. Zimou
Zimou Tan thank you, helps loads! xx
damn awsome... i cant do natural skin tones for the life of me.

I am working on tutorials on vimeo.com to give lectures and demos.
do you paint that wet on wet or do you let the different layers dry (for ,let us say, "some minutes)?
Or are you constantly using more medium to make the paint fatter?
It was wet on wet, one sitting.
Zimou Tan
how does the paint not mix with the underlayers then?
Do you use a special medium so that it does not mix too much?
It is the amount of paints you apply on top of each other, I uses very little or no medium when working on the patting.
Zimou Tan
okay.thanks
+Zimou Tan Patting sir?

Generally speaking it is; the opposing view is a rarity.
