Great video .love the euro diagnostics they dont publish much info. I had a Mercedes heater fan that was changing speed by it self .when it worked I compared the signals and notice the head unit wouldnt go flat line at 12 volts at high speed request to the speed controller used a test light connected to 12 volts touch the head unit control wire and high speed blower .dont worry about time I could watch your diagnostics for hours at a time😊😊😊
Keith that fan sounds like it is ready launch itself into orbit. Bring Stevie back I think there is water in the trunk. Seems like he had a great time. Thanks for the video ❤️
Great intro :) Missing you and NY already mate. Had a real downer on me when I arrived back in the UK yesterday. Full steam ahead with my plan. See you in October and thanks again for the chance to work alongside you last week mate. You're awesome!
Had a similar issue on a Ford Edge only the fan wouldn't stay running after a body shop put an aftermarket fan on it. Found out only an OE fan would work properly on it.
Great video and nice showing the power of having a quality scan tool and scope seperate. Can watch the request and what is happening in the circuit at the same time.
Hey Keith, these cars also have an issue with the driver in the engine control unit causing the fan to be commanded on high. What's weird is that it seemed to be losing the pwm signal command and would be stuck at an odd voltage.
It is always a matter of grace to post such videos but there was no explanation as to the root cause of the problem. Replacing the fan may be the correct remedy but what has caused this issue; in what manner has the fan failed and why? How does the car electronics control the fan? What aspect of the fan has failed?
Cool issue, thanks for showing! 👍 OEM every time or one should find out who actually makes the part before the manufacturer stamps their name on it : save a lot of money that way..
How do you determine the comm wire is going wonky from the fan module? Could the wire have a fault along the way? Would I have been wasting my time by cutting the comm wire and scoping both sides of it?
Great video thanks brother. I have never seen one want to run backwards unless you wanted it to or made it. Very interesting information. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
I have a 350 4matic e-merc,model 2010. Fan was loud,it started itselves at freezing point minus 5 celsius. Only turn power on,not started the engine, then after 10 seconds fan was self started and full throttle. I bought a new blower and it fixed it all. Blower ecu was a mess. Not cars own ecu.In fan there is its own ecu-unit. 450 euros plus assembly......my first merc, w212 luxury limousine.and veeery exxpensive.Greetings from suomi finland.
Disconnecting connector the line is at rest .3volts and doesn't change. I meant to show that as well. I was rushing so that the customer could close shop. I had gotten there 15 minutes before closing 😔
@@NewLevelAuto I think when you unplug the control wire, the ECU stops output. I did a very similar car that ended up being a bad ECU. Had overheated the main processer and warped the board. Definitive diagnostic was tapping on the ECU made the PWM freek out. I guess this diagnosis was definitive by seeing the motor turn backwards. Just trying to improve my ability to separate systems to determine if it's an output issue or a "backfeed" issue. Perhaps a substituted load on the control wire?
On this one tapping the fan koeo caused the same results. New fan is in this morning and all is well . But I do appreciate that input for sure. Love the thought process you use !
Great Steve impersonation lol. As always great video. Thanks for sharing. Question about the Farsight, I see it’s running a Pico. But I heard it’s also an Autologic Scanner? When I used to work on euros we had the blue box circa 2011. They’ve come out w/a lot of new equipment since then.
Does this fan get controlled through an electronic relay, AKA large transistor, like the older Jeep Grand Cherokees? The small current PWM from the ECU needs to be amplified by something.
In my case, 2004 MB E320, W210, is the fan request is always there from the front driver SAM module, which is AC signal. No communication with any SAMs, door modules, sunroof etc. Any suggestion please? Is CAN bus may cause that?
I had the same problem in a05 c240 after i did change a bad noise ac compresor that didn’t vacuum the sistem so all I did put ac gauge then i see the pressure in around 500 and supposed to be around 250-300 then I drain some air from the red hose until came down around 250 after I did that the fan starts working normal
I've got an 06 c230. I let it run and idle for over an hour not going over 40-45mph, no problem. As soon as i got over 45, it immediately started blowing hot air and giving a code to take it in to shop. Also, the fan, i wanna say, would run loudly for a few minutes after i turned it off, prior to the overheating issue. Any thoughts?
Great. Video . Is there any way to confirm that the ecm request is at the fan module ... I believe it is a pwm control. . As always these MB fan short internally .. and OEM are not cheap but they do last longer. ..
Right , you're new to the channel. I am a mobile tech whose job is to diagnose . The repair shops wouldn't want to pay me labor at 135 an hour to replace a cable that they will pay their employee 30 on .
@@NewLevelAuto just the way this thing is engineered(i use that term loosely) power and control means there is some type of electronics in the motor assy why would you put electronics in a hot spot???

Sounds like a good excuse for a new tool purchase Will.
Thank you Keith. Good job. I appreciate your videos.
That's not a problem its just on "Airplane mode"
Things were just starting to “heat up” when you pulled out the pico then they cooled off lol thanks for sharing sir!... jay

Break up the one hour into 27 parts!

Great find, thx for sharing.
How was the fan running with no request. Internally shorted
Keith How was the fan running with no request. can you explain ?
Module. Fan module is bricked at the circuit-board level. Output driver.. maybe.. maybe a bad voltage sensing circuit. Aftermarket parts.. no bueno.
oem fan probably worth half the price of the whole car!

A new oem fan for my 02 C-Class cost over $400, They’re expensive.
OEM means buying direct from the manufacturer without the Benz emblem. Shouldn't be horrid.
@@makemoneyonline8793 Not too bad?

My fan is turning on with no key in at full blast also radio stays on I'm guessing ecu ughhhh

My 02 c230k ecm collected moisture the design allows it to not be able to dry /drain

Did it only need a new OEM fan?

Throw some holy water on the fan you'll be fine. it's just possessed happens all the time

2006 c350 fan runs full blast no key in. Also radio stays on. Alternator voltage says bad . Could it be ecu ??! Causing all
