Thiem is definitely a player who should've won way more than one slam
I think 1 more is possible till his retiring.
If not for Nadal he’d definitely have 2 RG titles and possibly 3; I’m not sure he beats Wawrinka in 2017.

Such a unique and incredibly versatile OHBH … only top player ever to have an effective open stance OHBH, even on the run! Not to mention his bunted BH (see passing shots vs Nadal) where he keeps his left hand on the handle as long as possible for extra stability, only releasing the left hand on the follow through for extra control and feel. Incredible … my guess is he used to have a double hander and this gave him the ability to experiment with different techniques, each useful in specific situations
AFAIK he started as two-handed BHer though during his work with Günther Bressnik I think, his former coach, they figured out that he had problems with balls that jumped higher than usual, which is rather common on clay. So they changed his style to a single-handed BH which allowed him to take balls earlier and therefore use some of the momentum that is still in the ball to his advantage

Really speaks to the advantage of experimenting with different techniques or even other (racquet) sports when you’re young … like Fed with the squash shots and djoko/sinner with their incredible balance while sliding thx to skiing

As much of a Rafa fan that I am, I love watching the two of them play. They have so much respect for each other. Their matches are always so exciting. And I think they both have that ability to hit amazing shots that just barely make it on the line. Bravo Domi!
i remember him playing vs nadal in the french open final and even though he lost, he won a set and that was by far the most intense set of sandcourt tennis i'd ever seen. completely skilled ridiculous reckless high intensity. simply marvellous.

Your body can only last so long hitting the ball like that being his build plus the volume you have to play not just for tennis to stay top level but to make it on the ATP Tour.

Backhands are beautiful but why always make the clickbait title "that defied the science" ?? It's not "defying" anything, or maybe only the science you studied when you were 8 yo :)
Thiem's career is just sad
Such a disappointment the past 2 years. Every time I think he’ll return to some kind of decent form, he disappoints. Retired from round 2 at US Open……. I’m done watching his matches.
