Wawrinka had a similar abilities in matches where he was peaking this is the way he managed to destroy Nadal in Rome on clay and Djokivic in grand slams
He has an electric rocket on his elbow that uses nuclear fusion to create solar wind energy that can help him warp space to give his shots more leverage
What stands out for Thiem is the sheer consistency and effortless power he brings from his single hander! Even after his return from injury, most of his firepower is coming from the backhand wing! Hope he is back in top form for Aus open!
One handed backhands lock the wrist, so the power mostly comes from the legs and rotation. The coiling and unloading into the ball does not affect the wrist nearly as much as in the forehand, which demands high lag on the wrist to generate tons of racquet acceleration for that desired power. And that's where Thiem's struggles lie. He still doesn't have confidence in his forehand which is huge for his game.
@@samy29987 if you put top spin on the one hander that will also involve wrist motion for the whiper. Granted, there is no wrist lag given that the motion takes place from the reverse point (i.e, locked wrist instead of lag).

His career has been affected since his first Grand Slam title, like he stated himself in his explanation for his poor results after this big title besides the ATP finals 2020.
Just watched the Big 3 congratulate Dominic on his retirement at the Lotterien Sporthilife Gala Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony Oct. 2024. Sad his career was cut short. What I think both of them used super stiff racquets and strings that ruined their wrists. Then things started to fall apart as they tried to compensate . Delpo can barely walk nowadays or drive a car for long. An article I just saw. Both were the superb players.
That's why the Big 3 congratulated Thiem on his retirement at the Lotterien Sporthilife Gala Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony this Oct. 2024. That's real rare! You must have had to be a special player for those 3 to do that. Ironically, Nadal would announce his retirement several days later, too. Sad.
Man!! I pray and wish this guy has way more Grand slams left in him to win before he’s retired. Can literally beat anyone at his best. He was able to outclass the big 3 like Murray and Stan.
Man I miss him being this good 😢 But he is slowly climbing up the rankings, one more good tournament he’ll be back in the top 100 and it can only get better from there ❤

You forgot two more. 2018 USO QF between Nadal and thiem. The level was stratospheric, top5 matches of all time 2020 AO Final, thiem had Djokovic on the ropes and in deep trouble but somehow Novak won it.
Of all these matches, Atp 2020 against Nadal was most impressive for me..High Quality match thro' out..Not only displayed his usual power tennis but Tactically outplayed Nadal in each and every aspect in the most imp points..

He was the only one that wasn’t Djokovic who could hang with Rafa on the clay and even did better against him in that 1 RG final than most people would’ve and that was after beating novak to get there. Great player I would love to see him get back to full form. Tennis is better with him around.
Agreed, as a Djokovic fan, I used to hate him for obvious reasons, but looking back now, I wish he was in the top 5 again. He could easily destroy Ruud and Rublev with his eyes closed.

I think that Thiem is one of the few players that was able to get Nadal demoralised in a match. One of the few with the single backhander as powerful as the forehand
Hmm? What do you mean? Alcaraz, Sinner, Kyrgios are still playing well. Kyrgios reached the final of Wimbledon this year, you know. Even if he had lost to Nadal had Nadal been fit to play, Kyrgios reaching the semis is far better performance from him than before. And, Kyrgios also beat Medvedev this USO, didnt he? He also beat Medvedev in an earlier tourney, iirc. Sinner took 2 sets from Djokovic in Wimby. Any other player would have lost that day to Sinner, not to mention that fantastic point from Sinner for which he had to stretch to the max. Musetti and Alcaraz have been good this year too. How can you say that the male tour has been "catastrophic" after seeing such good performances of late? Sure, they don't play like the Big 3 have been for so many years, but, to say that it's been catastrophic is to insult their hard work and their performances. It feels insulting to tennis. One of my all-time favorite players to watch. However, I knew from the time I saw him, that his career was not going to be a long one.. As beautiful a style as he has, I always thought that it puts too much stress on the body especially the wrist..it not easy to hit backhands like his. He also hits them up the line more than any other one hander and with serious power. It not a natural range of motion so something was always going to give.. I wish him the very best in the next chapter of his life!! A super great player and will go down as one of the most underrated the game has seen..
Thiem at his best was similar to Wawrinka, the best in the world. Unfortunately he has underachieved in his career :/ He could have won more important tournaments if he had been a little more consistent and brought his A-game in important finals.
Thiem at his peak was the greatest tennis player of all time. No weaknesses, every part of his game a strength (forehand, backhand, dropshot, volleys, serve) and repeatedly beat the big 3 on their best surfaces (except Federer on grass) when Djoko was in his prime and Nadal and Federer were in forms not far from their primes. Best backhand of all time and possibly the most consistent power from both sides.

Murray actually had to fight for titles with Fed, Rafa, and Djoker in their primes.
Andy Murray had to deal with the prime Big Three. Thiem and Medvedev are dealing with the battered remains of those legends as well as a COVID restricted era on the tour
@@lancemasters7800 Yeah but Murray can't be a challenge to Nadal and Djokovic anymore, his body is too broken. Same thing with Federer. Thiem still has a chance if he gets back in good form.
