    I’ve been dealing with this all year, using doxycycline 3 months at a time. I’ll be asking for ivermectin next week, I’ll update my recovery

    I developed perioral dermatitis from corticosteroids that were first given me to treat a rush. I just stopped using them and I started to apply Lipikar eczema med (La Roche Posay) yesterday, how much time will it take for my skin to heal?

    • @DrJohnBarbieri
      @DrJohnBarbieri  3 місяці тому

      While I cannot speak to your situation, it often can take weeks to a few months for perioral dermatitis to improve once the corticosteroids are stopped (if they are the cause). Pls tell can we use hycort cream and talimus sterile?

      Hydrocortisone (a topical steroid) often can make perioral dermatitis worse in the long run.

    Hi i have Perioral dermatitis. I have had it a few years now. Derm put me on 3 months of oral antibiotic, topical erythromycin and elidel, we even tried finacea, a sulfa cleanse, nothing helped. I tried gut cleansing switching makeup. At that point i hadn’t been on any oral or topical steroids… i can’t pin point my triggers.
    The last couple of months I’ve been using otc antifungal cream and hydrocortisone combined and my skin is doing so much better but I’m terrified of getting TSW. My condition has not worsened at all since using the steroid. Is it possible that it’s not making it worse?

      I can't speak to your specific situation (sorry to hear that it sounds so challenging), but in general we try to limit use of topical steroids to 2-3 weeks/month maximum to avoid side effects from topical steroid overuse such as thinning of the skin.

      @@DrJohnBarbieri okay!! Thank you, the last two days I’ve used my pimecrolimus instead. I know it’s not great to take matters into our own hands as patients but I’m an esthetician and my dermatologist just doesn’t seem to care too much ☹️

    Hi, thanks for this video. I developed PoD and folliculitis months ago, all of the sudden. Since then I tried two different topical antibiotics and only cleanser and sunscreen my doctor prescribed (but it’s so light, if you have recommendations for a tinted version that is for olive skintones, or also for uncolored ones I’m all years). It has never gone away. I don’t know what to do anymore. I break out even with makeup from the pharmacy. Why? 😢 it’s now month 5, and btw I’ve had rosacea for 18 years.

      Check out some of the other videos on sunscreen that are on the channel. Ultimately, there isn't much evidence to guide us in these situations, and as you point out, those with perioral dermatitis can have difficulty tolerating cosmeceutical products. I find for many with more sensitive skin, Vanicream is a good option. I also like the sunscreens from LaRoche Posay and EltaMD.

      @@DrJohnBarbierithank you for your reply. It’s quite unfortunate for me, as I also have rosacea so I’m highly dependent on foundation to be honest. Doesn’t help with being a UA-camr either. You can really tell the difference of not wearing foundation on camera 😢😢 is there no way to understand why it happened? I linked it with trying many products with squalane back in december, but I don’t know if that’s true anymore, since I’m using nothing now and it’s still there

      Perioral dermatitis can improve on its own over weeks to months if potential inciting triggers are addressed.

    I’m on week 9 of my pregnancy and starting having a flare up. I’ve had PD before. 😩 I went to a dermatologist today and they prescribed me Desonide 0.05 and Hydrocortisone 1% creams. What do you recommend?

    • @DrJohnBarbieri
      @DrJohnBarbieri  3 місяці тому

      I cannot speak to your specific situation, but typically we do not use topical steroids for perioral dermatitis as it can sometimes worsen this problem. We have a several longer format videos on the channel about perioral dermatitis and acne in pregnancy.

    I hope and pray this helps many of you suffering for a long time.
    I suffered from this since November of 2023. It first started small then overtook half the bottom of my face. It burned, itched and tingled. I tried almost every natural remedy which may have made it worse. I also was prescribed metro-gel for my family doctor which made it even worse as well. The only things that worked were plan greek yogurt overnight on my face to stop the itching and I purchaed canestan external cream (2% clotrimazole cream) which is an Anti Fungal.
    My doctor told me that if its not caused by bacteria then its caused by a fungus.
    It has been 3 full days and my PD is almost
    Entirely healed (90%). I expect it to be fully gone by day 5.
    Please if any of you are frustrated then try it. I apply it 3 times per day
    God bless.
