Cheers from France! I really don't know how I ended up here (thank you, algorithm 😆) but I'm very glad I did. Very interesting video. My favorite on this list was probably Unforgiven, although I too don't know much about western films : fantastic movie. I also have a soft spot for American Beauty, not a perfect film sure, but I loved it so much when I was a teenager. Keep up the good work!
Re The Return of the King - you obviously haven’t read the books, the endings aren’t fake, it’s exactly how it plays out in the books - in fact, after the final epic battle, there’s yet another adventure for the hobbits back at The Shire You might say well PJ didn’t have to follow those aspects of the books - but for those of us that are also passionate about the books totally appreciate it. But even if you’re not a fan of the books, I think those multiple endings make sense because this is the the ending of a massive epic 3 x 3 hour long movies - you can’t just do a simple happily ever few minutes wrap - after being so long with these characters and their mission, I want to be with them for every single moment that can be squeezed out at the end. And every ending has a point to it, - after Frodo and Sam finally destroy the ring, it leads to the volcano erupting and of course they have to get saved - and then it’s wonderful and so happy when we see the fellowship reunite when Frodo wakes up, it’s beautiful to see Aragorn come into his own as King and re-reunited with his love and the people in celebration and honouring the hobbits. It could have ended there, but this movie is not just a superficial good against evil tale - it shows that once the hobbits are back at The Shire, they realise they are no longer the same hobbits that they were before and it’s going to be difficult for them to re-adjust back to the simple life. Very much how it must be for soldiers who return from war. Especially for Frodo he is irreversibly scarred - so it makes sense for him to leave The Shire and go with Gandalf Into the West. Of course we need to have another tear filled leave taking as he leaves the other hobbits! Finally we have the beauty of Sam returning to his wife and children and you see how important it is for Sam to have his love and peaceful life, because many would say that he is the true hero. After all the pain and suffering the characters have been through they deserve a drawn out ending! Even the several fake deaths of Frodo occurred in the books too! In my opinion all three of these movies belong in the masterpiece category!
Also who doesn’t care about The English Patient? Its one of the most deserving best picture winners of the 90s! I remember that film winning over commercial faves like Jerry Maguire and Fargo. It won 9 Oscars! The novel was so good and one of the most difficult to adapt! We care about this film! Oh i miss Anthony Minghella!
ahh! crash is so trash. i remember when it came out on dvd. i remember my mom watched it and thought it was awful. i watched it. i thought it was awful. the cover art of the dvd still kinda gives me ptsd flashbacks, like OOOOH ...THAT MOVIE. cant wait to see the finals and where they rank! i've enjoyed this series! opened me up to watching some new stuff. appreciate it! silence of the lambs is a perfect movie, agreed on its placement!!! i also didnt know mark walberg was nominated and no one else was... thats actually crazy he literally plays himself.
Thank you for the wonderful comment and I'm glad you've enjoyed the series! I've always heard Crash was bad, but I was not expecting how bad it was. Truly a mind boggling win.

West Side Story average? That was a masterpiece of film and music! And the message is fantastic as well
