This was a pretty decent year for movies. Compared to something like 2019, it doesn’t compare. But still, lots of good work this year from great directors like Spielberg, McDonagh, Reeves I’m looking forward to 2023’s movies because of Scorsese, James Gunn, Ari Aster
My favourite film of the year was either Top Gun: Maverick or The Batman, but it’s more than likely Maverick. It was just a fantastic movie, both are amazing movies and spectacles.

Here is my top 10 list: 10. Thor Love and Thunder. What a major letdown 9. Jurassic World Dominion. The most disappointing movie of the year 8. Turning Red. It felt like it wasn't for me and it was difficult to like the main character 7. Uncharted. It was fine and entertaining in its own way 6. Bullet Train. It's way too fun with an engaging story 5. Black panther: Wakanda Forever. An emotional story about grief, sorrow and vengeance. 4. People are probably going to hate me for this one: The Batman. I felt like it was a little too long 3. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This is very underrated and is one of the best movies of the year in my opinion 2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It made me so happy in the theater so much even with it's flaws 1. Top Gun: Maverick. Do I have to explain?
I fully expect you to go over this in the pod but best cameo of the year - Jeremy Renner of the Jeremy Renner app fame in Glass Onion (crucial to the plot)
Do you know how every movie Mark Wahlberg is in he is basically just being Mark Wahlberg? I feel like that's where we are with Colin Farrell now, and I am 100% here for that.
My top 10 are similar to yours with a few changes. 10. Glass Onion 9. All Quiet on the Western Front 8. Bullet Train 7. Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness 6. The Gray Man 5. Banshees of Inisherin 4. The Batman 3. Avatar The Way of Water 2. Everything, Everywhere, All At Once 1. Top Gun Maverick Gray Man and Bullet Train were both a ton of fun in my opinion and movies I know I will rewatch for years to come. For me that is a big factor in determining my top 10 movies. Another movie like Tar for example might be a better movie “critically speaking”, but I didn’t have nearly as much enjoyment watching it, and I’ll never have a desire to watch it again.

@@arpitshivhare217 honestly if you don’t know anything about it, that’s the best way to go into it. That’s what I did and it was the best cinema experience I’ve had in a long time!
Here's my top 10: 10. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 8/10 Yes, I know, give me a pass I've been a fan since I was a kid and just had such a fun time watching this with my little cousins in theaters. I wish this had come out when I was a kid. 9. Everything Everywhere All at Once 8/10 I didn't love this as much as everyone else did but it's undeniably creative and hilarious. The ending dragged pretty hard for me but the first 3/4s of the movie were fantastic. 8. The Northman 8/10 Once again I didn't love this as much as everyone else but, just like Everything Everywhere All at Once, it's just such an incredibly well made film. The action is sparse but it makes it so satisfying when it does happen, and the eventual finale had me at the edge of my seat. It did drag a bit and had some classic Robert Eggers time wasting weird shit sprinkled in, but overall I did really enjoy it. 7. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 8/10 I do not like the first Black Panther movie much at all. So the build up for this movie just seemed like a lost cause for me. A Black Panther movie without Black Panther? Not interested. With the year the MCU has had, I wasn't overly excited for this. But, I was dead wrong. This is easily the best MCU film of the year and my third favorite of phase 4 (behind Spider-Man and Shang-Chi) I'm still shocked at how much more I enjoyed this movie and I'm far more invested in the people of Wakanda now. Looking forward to seeing what's next. 6. Mortal Kombat Legends: Snowblind 9/10 I fucking love Mortal Kombat. I buy the figures, play each game extensively, and have watched each movie more times than I'd like to admit. Is this movie technically better than the previous ones on this list? Hell no. But do I fucking love it regardless? Hell yes. I'm a lifelong fan of Mortal Kombat, so naturally I'm a huge fan of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and the last act of this film does them so much justice I was just so happy watching it. It's dumb and rushed overall but it's also got great action, and I really couldn't ask for more from an animated Mortal Kombat movie. Also Kenshi is so under rated. 5. Prey 8/10 It's been far too long since we've gotten a great Predator film, but somehow Disney has produced my personal favorite in the entire franchise. An incredibly entertaining movie with great build-up and even better action that'll satisfy anyone that loves the Predator. 4. Top Gun: Maverick 9/10 I've never really been a fan of Top Gun, so imagine my surprise walking out of the theater having seen such an amazing experience like this. Tom Cruise is truly at the height of his career right now and seeing this just makes me even more excited for Mission Impossible 7 next year. The characters are just as fun though. They all really get moments to shine and you can just tell everyone put their hearts and souls into their performance. This is just the perfect 80s movie with modern filmmaking advantages. 3. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 10/10 I just watched this movie 3 days ago as of writing this and it was engaging and unpredictable from start to finish. Unraveling the mystery was just as enjoyable as it was in the first Knives Out and it further proves Rian Johnson does know what he's doing behind the camera. I cannot wait for a potential third Knives Out film in the future. 2. Avatar: The Way of Water 9/10 I waited 13 years for this film. I was 9 years old when I saw Avatar in theaters and it blew me away. I got the DVD when it came out and must've watched it a hundred times. I didn't care that it was Fern Gully or Pocahontas in space bc I hadn't seen Fern Gully, and I didn't like Pocahontas. Also I was 9 and had no idea what a "Dances with Wolves" even was. So to me, Avatar was and is incredible, and I'm so satisfied with the sequel I waited so long to see. I want to see it again already. Of course the CGI is absolutely mind blowing but let's not forget how sick the action is. Huge spectacle and surprisingly great choreography. The characters are pretty under rated in my opinion and I really do care for Jake, Neytiri, and their family. Although one complaint I have is that they didn't spend nearly enough time with Jake's oldest son so the emotional moment didn't hit quite as hard. It's mostly the superb acting from Zoe Saldana that got to me in that scene. But overall I can't wait to see this again and buy the 4K. 1. The Batman 10/10 I had a good feeling this film wouldn't be dethroned from my #1 spot. I've only seen it twice but both times had me absolutely enamored with the visually stunning Gotham city, and the incredible tone this film sets from the start. This really is the Batman film I've always wanted. A dark, grim, detective story that doesn't hold back. It builds it's world masterfully and kept me engaged from start to finish. Robert Pattinson is an incredible Batman and I can't wait to see what he does in the sequel. Colin Farrell is a shockingly great Penguin and Paul Dano is a terrifying Riddler. Plus the score is phenomenal and really brings you into each scene perfectly. I genuinely love this movie and I'm definitely thinking about watching it again soon. The only movies I don’t agree with are Doctor Strange 2, Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of Water. The first two being two of the most forgettable MCU movies in a year where the franchise was at its worst and gave us more generic and forgettable stories and the last being that while is an impressive visual experience like the first movie, also like that movie lacks a compelling narrative.
