  • Tribute Thursday!
This video is a tribute to the legendary italo disco group - KOTO
In this short version of their great hit Visitors, I'm using the Carbon sequencer to sequence the bass. The different melodies was played live except the small counter part after the second main riff witch was sequenced on the Matrix Brute and started manually by trigger a key and stopped with a foot pedal. Everything was recorded live in one go to Ableton. The reverb was added in post.
    Bass - Moog Grandmother
    Main riff - Roland SH101
Second and third melody - Moog Sub37
Counterpart to the third melody - Arturia Matrix Brute
Bridge to the break - ARP Odyssey
    Drums - Roland TR707
    Sequencer - Kilpatrick Audio Carbon
    Reverb - OTO BAM
Original song was recorded and released by KOTO in 1985.

Alright, finally back! I didn't get the notification of the January 16 upload, just checked that one too. Cool and fun stuff, 👍! So it took one year to fabricate that crazy coat and hat ensemble? What was the holdup?

amazing! have you used Carbon in a more expanded context beyond sequencing one track and more like a full arrangement? Im into Italo Disco as well so was wondering if it fares well for that if one doesn't wanna play a lot of keyboards live like you did

Hi and thanks for your comment ❤️🙏 The Carbon sequencer works in a special way and can be used for sequencing 6 tracks up to 64 steps. Then you can’t change pattern like a ”normal” sequencer when you want to go to from verse to chorus but you can for example allocate for example 16 steps in one track for the verse and 48 steps for the chorus. You can have every track at a different lenght. This is called scenes which you use to make songs. You can have multiple scenes with different start and stop points from the same track in one song if you like. What you can’t do is to change between songs without a small stop to the sequence. So that makes it hard to make longer sequences that don’t fit in those 64 steps. If you, how ever, want to do experimental or polyrithmic sequences it is one of the best sequences out there I would say.

@@AsteroidKiller I have one ordered and on the way! The verse chorus different start points within the same track is a cool trick will definitely try that out :) I guess between that, bias tracks, live playing and transposition, as well quarter notes etc should be covered. Cirklon is out of my budget, polyend seq just too simple and pyramid is complex for me. Was eying the Analogue Solutions Europa have u tried that?

Yes, the transpose is whar I use all the time. Also bias track and live is used a lot. It’s a great sequencer, don’t get me wrong, but you have to live and adapt to its limitations 👍

@@AsteroidKiller arrived and just had the first play with it - limited indeed but that's kind of reassuring in a way :) definitely encourages live tweaking and coming up with multiple iterations of the same simple note entry - I think I will like it!
