We used to live on The Jersey Shore and had a dock on a an inlet behind our house in Toms River. A guy once told me that, “A boat is a hole in the water to throw money into !”, and The two best days in a boat owners life are the day He buys it and the day He sells it !” I am sure you have heard those a million times. Fortunately you are able to offset your costs with your videos. Totally enjoy your videos ! You guys rock !!!!!!!
Hang in there, everything mechanical is going to have its problems, enjoy the little pains in the a$$es; You are living a life we all wish we could you are very blessed. As a commercial pilot also I totally understand everything you're about, and you and all your folks that travel on the boat, Relax have fun never rush and never worry.
Thank you for another great video Bobby. Jenny is great addition to the crew. Seems like she is a free spirit. That is great to have on the boat and as a crew member. Thank you Bobby and Jenny. I will have a Mojito in honor of you both.
Love the vids!! Happy and sad that Megan is getting married - she is beautiful and fun-loving, guessing she'll not be back much if at all. Her smile lights up the world.
Beauty the scenery is so beautiful and stunning.Very enjoyable! Reminds me of my trips where I take the good music like the Guns N Roses, Imagine Draongs or the Delta Parole and then enjoy the powerful feeling of the sea. ¡vamos!
Cruising equals fixing boats in exotic places 😁 Loved the video, always fun watching you and the crew enjoy life and even the misadventures. Love the channel, remember life is good ! 🤗🌅🏝🌊🚤🇺🇸
Packing gland....compress the packing by tightening the two bolts you showed in the picture. That will force the sleeve down and compress the packing which will stop the leak. Don’t over tighten though....just enough to stop the leak.
Bobby should not be doing anything mechanical that has to do with water possibly coming into the boat for his own safety. he's a great guy but a terrible mechanic.
@@craigkaschan4822 this is true for a prop shaft seal but less so for a rudder. Rudder packing glands do not need water lubrication like a shaft seal so they can be set up tighter and do not need ti drip.
Love the videos. Also love the saddle float you have onboard. I designed and created them. They're private labeled for West Marine but they are actually "Lazy Bunz" water floats. It was cool seeing them on your boat. Hopefully you enjoy them. They are great for cleaning the waterline and chilling in deep water. Obviously, they're also great for transporting an anchor. Great idea!
You're gonna love Phuket, Thailand. Visited there a few times while in the Navy. Take some time to go out to the west beaches, Patong Beach is one that I remember. If you look at the datum of the original chart at Patong Beach, my name is on the original survey from back in 1986. There were no accurate charts of that area until after that survey. Of course, its all electronic now, so it may not show the heritage of the cartography.
Rudder post looks pretty corroded. I'd check and make sure its connected to your zinks, clean all the paint/rust off with a wire wheel and spray it with some fluid film (rust proofing spray).
i check in on this channel like once every 4 or 5 months maybe a little longer. When i do, there is a different girl every time and a different boat. I hope some day you can find some consistency and true love. See you in February for a different girl...
Bobby, while the boat is on the hard, I recommend repacking or replacing all of the thru hips, hoses, band re sealing the riders, and repacking the water box. The age of the dark side calls for this at a minimum.
3:01 "It's either coming from aft forward or forward, back." Whoa, easy there Sherlock! lol. (No offense meant, love the content and I say very similar things. Just cracked me up.)
Hatteras are awesome yachts, well built specially those built in the late 1970s and 1980s. Somehow Dark Side seems to ride low in the bow displacing a ton of water. I wonder what could be done to trim her better?
Just tighten the packing gland on the rudder. 1/4 turn on the nuts, move rudder back and forth. Do this until it stops leaking. Don't over tighten otherwise the rudder might lock up. Good luck.
Another superb vlog bobby your skills are professional now and it shows I'm in socal and we're locking down again here in California so these vlogs are so refreshing thanks for sharing this adventure
Nice ride Bobby; never pegged you for a Speedplay guy. Hahaha. JK; I swear I'm not a pedal snob. Glad that your back on the bike; with the space you have on the Dark Side, a trainer setup should be perfect!! Give 'em hell! (Yes, I know you already raced, but, you know)
Jenny is such a sweetheart! She seems really intelligent! But most of all she seems to be fun! Hope we can see more of her in the future!
Jenny is the best help I have seen on your boat
Jenny is brave at least and fun and productive on the boat.
I love her smile
i haven't been on the SD page for a while, I like this girl, she is REAL. maybe I'll start watching again

Thank you for the videos have learned a lot just watching
Go Doodles! Bobby always finds Top quality eye candy to populate his videos. Thanks Bobby!
Bobbie sounding like Captain Ron when he said these things take a lot of oil. 😂
That is so classic! You just made me realize that, he totally does. taking us back.
Love the sign on the roof of the bar. "BAR ATM" What more do you need!!
Netflix and chill…nice.
Jenny is amazing. The best crew Bobby has had. Keep Jenny on board.
Net Flicks and Chill....good for you two;)
Bobby said “the dark side is quite a sight at 11knts” lol looks like a HOG running threw deep brush. Yes Quite a sight! LOL
oh what a nice pic of you two.
Loved the drone footage of The Dark Side underway. Thanks for the update on the future plans.
Love Puerto Rico and the islands around it. Beautiful beaches around there.
Keep up the good work, enjoy the rest of your trip and stay safe. From wade in Kentucky, love your videos
Great video, like the drone shots of the boat I hope you get your leak fixed, check all your sea strainers while docked.
So glad to hear you will be filming in Thailand again! Can't wait to see those episodes!
That boat is a beast! Plowing thru that water.
Packing gland....compress the packing by tightening the two bolts you showed in the picture. That will force the sleeve down and compress the packing which will stop the leak. Don’t over tighten though....just enough to stop the leak.
Yes, was gonna post the same thing.
Soak the bolts good with penetrateing oil good before hand.
Bobby should not be doing anything mechanical that has to do with water possibly coming into the boat for his own safety. he's a great guy but a terrible mechanic.
I was going to suggest forcing plumbers putty in from sea side. Your fix much better thanks.
It should drip a couple of drops a minute to lubricant and cool. Tighten when anchored and back off before moving.
@@craigkaschan4822 this is true for a prop shaft seal but less so for a rudder. Rudder packing glands do not need water lubrication like a shaft seal so they can be set up tighter and do not need ti drip.
great video and lovely scenery indeed . have fun
Haha...”Netflix and chill”
Don't stroke out on us Bobby !
Thanks for sharing !

You should consider adding a wireless water intrusion alarm in the engine bay.

There was that tidal wave that changed a lot of Phuket. I was there in 2000 and would love to go back and see it.
I appreciate detailing all the sleuthing. I have no talent in repairs but at least I'm learning something! Dude you've got the best named boat !
That's a nice bike. BIG BUCKS!
Sailing Good Bad and Ugly was just at Culebrita they also had purchase one of your old anchors during their hall out go figure. 👈👈🤓
Great season Bobby. Good recovery considering all that happened to you personally and in the world. Cheers bud!
Defiantly need a new USA 🇺🇸 flag for the next season!
😂Every time I see "definitely" misspelled this way I imagine it being like "NO! Never! I need a new flag!"
Yes, he did mention that he was waiting for that one until dry docking for the season, but recognized it on one of the recent videos.
Love your vids man, since day one been watching. Keep doing it Bobby! You are the man!
it was the rats nest of wires you cut out of the bilge, they went to the battery charger LOL
That looked like an adjustable packing gland on the rudder post. Tighten the nuts to reduce the seepage.
Rudder post looks pretty corroded. I'd check and make sure its connected to your zinks, clean all the paint/rust off with a wire wheel and spray it with some fluid film (rust proofing spray).
She seems is a good person 👍
Great video. I glad you found the big leak

Put a gallon of Lucas oil stabilizer in each one of those Detroit’s. It will cut way down on oil consumption.
Flamenco Beach on Culebra is the single prettiest beach I've ever stood on.
Bobby, while the boat is on the hard, I recommend repacking or replacing all of the thru hips, hoses, band re sealing the riders, and repacking the water box. The age of the dark side calls for this at a minimum.
Sorry auto spell. Re pack thru hulls and re seal rudders.
It’s a good thing your good at trouble shooting and figuring things out.
Jenny is a keeper !
Did you ever sound the horns when Jenny was out relaxing? That's another right of passage on The Dark Side, lol!
Who the heck gives a video like this a thumbs down???
Brobie is now being less picky and it’s super hot.
Love these videos! I miss being on big boats.
Thanks for the extra!
Bobby, still killing it. Great content.
God bless you and your family
Nice bike!
Thanks for the update!!!! Who is going to Tailand with you???? ;-)
Last I heard there was a really hot chick in Thailand that already knows who Robby is
another fun video from Bobby and co.
Very beautiful for sure
Bobby, you need a crew calendar lol
Wow - triathlon Bobby! Very cool! Such a different side to you,
Hopefully, we'll see you in Annapolis!⛵
Did I hear adding 2+ litres of oil to each engine for 10 to 12 hours running? That sounds like a lot! Very enjoyable video BTW.
Great extra video!! If I didn't have a kid in college I would subscribe to your Patreon channel but maybe one of these days!!
She sure pushes a whole lotta water, making way.
Cool Cervelo, have one too but not time trial one
3:01 "It's either coming from aft forward or forward, back." Whoa, easy there Sherlock! lol. (No offense meant, love the content and I say very similar things. Just cracked me up.)
Sailing GBU has your old anchor.

That extension that was added into the rear is keeping the bow down in the water.
Maybe because this boat had a stern cockpit added so the center of weight is forward of what it was designed for???
@@andrewburnett2215 probably the stern cockpit added more stern buoyancy lifting the stern higher over the water sinking the bow.
Great episode guys ‼️ Best wishes in your triathlon. ✨ ✌️ ✨
Just tighten the packing gland on the rudder. 1/4 turn on the nuts, move rudder back and forth. Do this until it stops leaking. Don't over tighten otherwise the rudder might lock up. Good luck.
I agree spray some kroil on it let it soak, loosen nuts work em back and forth and snug down even you want to wire brush the metal .
Great stuff! Kick butt!
Another superb vlog bobby your skills are professional now and it shows I'm in socal and we're locking down again here in California so these vlogs are so refreshing thanks for sharing this adventure
Diesels love their oil, like a sailor loves his rum. The best of Capt Ron!
Why is that Capt Ron? Capt Ron: "Nobody knows..."
Nice vid Bobby!!!!!......
BOAT - Bust out another thousand ;) it's a labor of love, thanks for your content it's helping make decisions ;)
My trawler was bust out another 10000🤨
Nice ride Bobby; never pegged you for a Speedplay guy. Hahaha. JK; I swear I'm not a pedal snob. Glad that your back on the bike; with the space you have on the Dark Side, a trainer setup should be perfect!! Give 'em hell! (Yes, I know you already raced, but, you know)
Haha just started using speed play. Yeah planning to get a trainer and a zwift setup for the boat
They could be kicking the breaker cause one of the pumps themselves has a bad seal and water is getting inside. And causing a short
Love the plan, find out why we are slowly sinking!
Good Pictures. Have nice trips. 👍
If one rudder is bad you probably should do both and also check the main shafts.
Hope you surpass your goal in the triathlon Bobby! "Do your damn thing" Bobby. LOL! Seriously, Hope you do great!!!
Good clip, interesting to get the latest news.
Triathalon?? wow, I'm guessing International Super Spy too?? :-)
Dang.... Love the P5 and 454
Nice P5! Let’s ride when you’re back in Big D
Is Bobby getting buff? I see some more arm size and vascularity!
A diesel loves her oil like a sailor loves his rum! Lol
Nice Cervello.
B.O.A.T. Bring On Another Thousand
Doing good there👍
As a man who married into a large Asian family years go, your crew is looking up.
Rudder glands, shaft glands, or bilge backflow siphon.
Thanks for allowing us to live vicariously through your videos! Your friend in Southlake, TX
I think it's time to spring for a new ensign.
Loved it , many thanks.👍👏
Enjoyed the video.
