Haven driven nio in China for years, it’s great to see it going abroad. I bet they going to love it
At last... a car styling that isn't fussy and "creased" or "flame surfaced" or other such crap. It looks handsome, graceful and sporty. Interior is similarly restrained, with no over-the-top mega-size screen or 15 different materials mixed together. Reminds me of the older Audis design language. Software is awesome. If it drives as well as you said it does, I would totally buy this. That's actually the ONLY electric car I ever said this about (aside from the multi million dollar Rimac Neverra). And I'm a die-hard petrolhead 🤣. Wow. I'm impressed._
Fully agree, also a complete petrol head (nothing better than a burble from a V8) all time favourite car 1966 E Type Jaguar FHC. Now I await delivery of my ultra quiet, super smooth Nio ES6!! (Hopefully before the end of October)
The ET5 costs €60,000 ($65,924) in Europe if customers buy and charge the battery themselves. The NIO ET5 costs €47,000 ($51,641.72) if customers lease the battery monthly. NIO's battery leases come with unlimited free swaps.
I would love for you to make a NIO video every day. I think this car company will go far in the near future.
I just love Nomis voice, I would buy the car just for that 🙂
It all sounds great. I'm particularly pleased with the enhanced charging performance and the improved software. Many thanks to you, Kyle and Alyssa
170 euros a month after taxes is a fair price for two SWAPs, a guarantee that your battery will forever be in the healthiest condition, upgrades, and future cost reduction. That's why I think it's fair to measure the price by the price excluding the battery. The most important point, NIO is a standard. NIO's strategy is to put everything important inside and let them choose color and small additions. Tesla, on the other hand, puts everything important to your choice. There are two methods here, one can argue about which one is the right one. (I personally think Tesla's method is better) This means a significant difference in the entry price. But if you do a head-to-head comparison, NIO is actually much more attractive than Tesla. (I am going to make the comparison based on the model 3 Highland and the ET5T in Germany, assuming that the vehicles themselves are the same at their level) First we will add dual drive, 19 inch wheels, we will add a white interior, (because at NIO the most beautiful interior is free) we will also add autonomous driving because With NIO, this is the standard, (in fact, NIO has more than twice as many sensors for autonomous driving as Tesla, and all of those are of a much higher resolution than Tesla's, some even for a long range of 200 meters) So, NIO ET5T 45 thousand euros, Tesla 63 thousand euros, so tell me, well, not all customers want dual drive, so they lose five things about it , they lose a lot of things about it, 1, less performance, 2, less grip on the road, 3, less good for off-road 4, dual drive doubles the shelf life of The propulsion system, 5, and probably the most important, the charging of drops to 170 at the peak, and we know that with Tesla the curve drops quickly so this is very significant. That's why you must purchase the double drive in 75 percent of the cases. But let's say you still insist on choosing the rear-wheel drive version, the price drops to $53,000, still much more expensive than the NIO.
You’re still getting recharged batteries, no?
No trolling, I’m a NIO investor since 2018 and been DCAing ever since.
But, the comments about battery swapping confuse me. Maybe it’s just my ignorance, but swapping doesn’t change your battery life since the battery that replaces your previous one is still a used battery.
I do think it’s a more efficient method though.
Still bummed we don’t get wagons in the U.S. anymore. All of the good stuff about and SUV and a sedan rolled into one.
Do you not have the corolla Wagon and those fancy Audi Wagons ? Quite schocked if it isn't the case becasue they are a hot seller in Europe.
Yes we need more EV wagons!!!!!!
Yes, please. I have an Ioniq 5 but I would've loved to get a smaller wagon option if there was something more price-competitive than the Taycan on the market.
🙌
Just one word: FINALLY! Soooo much nicer than those silly sedans. Please give us more estate EVs!
Sedans are more drag efficient than Wagon. You will see much more sedans in EV segments.
That's also why most EV SUVs are “coupe”.
@@leanlifersure but not everyone buy ice cars based on mpg's only, likewise ev's
@@leanlifer There is more difference in efficiency between SUV (frontal area) and wagons than between wagons and sedans. Wagons are much more practical than sedans.
hi, nio user here, Nio just secretly improved the 100kwh battery pack this year, it is now 2.3C battery with max charging speed 230kw. I havent been able to try it yet, heard many nice things about it
No way! That's awesome. Let us know if you get to check it out yourself.
that's DOA here in the US with the tarriffs currently imposed on China, along with the great stuff from BYD, Zeekr/Geely, and the Avatr 12.....
Because big corporations own US government & they will legally bribe their way via lobbying in order to monopolize the market. Don't be surprised if US would use "national security" as their usual excuse to stop & ban Chinese competition in the EV market. It's definitely harming American consumers by doing so.
Yes, a real bummer. Everyone's complaining about the high price of cars and yet refuse to allow more competition into the market.
"We need an F 350 to go to the grocery store" Lol so true. I can't tell you how many Range Rovers I see slowing down to go over gravel on an unpaved street.

The NIO ET5 Touring is a fabulous looking EV!
What a machine! Saw one in the neighborhood here recently (Norway); one of 8 now on the road...
The Lidar units look awesome there is nothing wrong with it. Compare the sleekness of NIO Lidar to that Google Waymo crap!
Yeah but those aren’t on consumer sold cars. A sign or advertisement is fine on a taxi, but a buyer doesn’t want that on their personal car
I also think it's fine.
the google version has insane resolution. This NIO lidar is a 1 megapixel camera compared to waymos 100 megapixel version
@@NyashaM that's not Lidar resolution but maybe the camera your thinking about, and NIO's 11 cameras are 8 megapixels. The NIO Lidar can also increase the scan resolution in the area of interest.

I cannot wait till Nio to start selling cars in California. The battery swapping would be so handy as someone who occasionally goes on roadtrips but usually charges at home/work for 99% of the time
Battery swap will be important when the new battery tech is available

Beautiful car. I hope this makes it to the states.
This looks FANTASTIC!
Globalisation is just so awesome. Car designed in Germany (at least for the ET7), software from the US and the Car made in China😅
World without many politicians would be interesting
@ndukasmithNIO has a large office in San Jose, California. That’s where they develop much of their software. Also serves as something that will make it easier for their inevitable entry to the US market. I just hope that they focus more on fast charging here instead of battery swap.
The two things you mentioned are not important at all, they are just ancillary ,the most important thing is the three electric technology , You didn't mention it at all, just like your BBC relatives in your bones
Moreover, the research and development centers in the United States are essentially for business purposes, and the real software research and development is located in Shanghai, In addition, 70% of Tesla's American engineers is Chinese, understand?
There is no way you can keep up with Huawei, XiaoPeng, Li Auto, Geely's Flyme auto on software if you rely on the small US team. The best US software is in Tesla, which is at least 1 or 2 generations behind the best ones.
1. The reason the phone charger is triggering the payment app is that the charger also has an NFC receiver. Your phone is likely set up to activate the payment app whenever it detects NFC. But its understandably annoying.
2. The window switches are not backwards (but intuitively it may feel that way). Normally they would be turned 90 degrees on a normal car. But push is down, pull is up. Same thing here. Push is down, pull is up. Also, analogous to the gear shifter. Pulling is forward, pushing is reverse.
GREAT review by the way, and really interesting to see the improvements of Banyan 2.0.0 (even if it's beta). I got the impression the AP is much better too now? That part has had some fairly negative critique from reviewers and users with the current software.
Hopefully you will get the opportunity to review the EL6 as well soon (coming roughly the same time as ET5t), that would be very interesting to watch.
100% agree with the window switch one, it took me a month to get used to it.
At 49:29 I love to the camera views the car provides. What a disappointment the new Model 3 is, no front camera, no 360° camera view with ability to select areas. Nio or BYD will be on my list after my lease run out on my current Model 3. What I also see in this car has a dark roof option, Model 3 or Y, no option, tinted rear window, New Model 3 does not have....honestly for the price a much better option than the Model 3.
Yeah, china gets 10 exterior color options and six interior colors for the car. The choices are wonderful and plentiful.
@18:30 "Not great for styling" ... I guess "to each their own". So many creatures on the planet have body protrusions that look fine on them. That's what makes them distinctive.
I bought a model 3 performance a year ago, its size is very good and suitable for city life. But now let me choose, and I will most likely choose this one. Because sometimes I still need to take some big things, such as bicycles, furniture, etc.
You can still sell, and buy the et5 touring.
'Drugs in the black bag' LMAO...almost made me spit out my drink Kyle...great video though! Also, you seem to have upgraded from the cold Starbuck drink! Regards from Vancouver Canada.

Thanks Kyle amazing review 😎👌⚡️
great review, Thank you.
If I had the money, I would buy one immediately. I recently took the ES6 for a small test drive and I was really impressed. Of all Chinese car brands, Nio may be the one adapted best for the European market.
If you cannot find something in the menus, or if you think your massage setting is not what you want: ask Nomi. Asking Nomi about things in the car really works well. Detailed navigation does not work well if you use Nomi, you'd better use the navigation system. I don't agree with the car modes not delivering full power. Tesla has a Chill mode, because the standard Sport mode with full power just has too much power. That holds for any electric car, especially a car as fast as a Tesla or this Nio. You will mainly use the car in comfort mode I think, and you can use Nomi to use another drive mode.
The tow hitch is a paid option, so is the Nomi head. Here in The Netherlands, the car costs 51900 euros, the larger battery will cost 289 euros per month instead of 169, and it will cost 21000 euros to buy instead of 12000 for the smaller battery.
Your views on this car was very important to me. Been watching a lot from China and wanted someone else’s opinion’s especially yours. Thanks.

While you are in Germany, try out the Zeekr 001. Another great electric wagon in my opinion
zeekr001 FR
Zeekr fr is a sports car. It's not very relevant. Zeekr 001 is the relevant one, and it is less attractive. From NIO ET5T.

Man, I want this in Canada
It's the only car that'd make me give up on my Polestar
Because of Canada's national security concerns, you may not be able to buy it in Canada.
@@hexi-wo7ed That's a weak argument. My current car is made in China.

what a great design....I'm loving the NIO
@ 09:27 Power = Voltage x Current, so 230V x 10A = 2300W or 2.3kW. This also explains why the 800V architecture cars can charge faster because they can run a lower Current compared to 400V architecture.
What a wagon!!!
So good looking.
Nice to see an EV with a 100kwh battery pack that isn't an SUV, that's indeed a breath of fresh air into the SUV suffocation assault that has been going on!
Thank you, sir, for doing this video!
FYI: I know you stated you do not like the LIDAR on roof. NIO did that on purpose to flex their technology and show people they have lidar. They could of implemented under the roof but its more of a FLEX and showing off to other brands they are ahead with tech. :)
this is the perfect car for me
A very nice car! Battery exchange is also a very good idea that I just need to exchange battery once a week which only takes 5 mins. ET5T has a bigger storage compartment at the back but I think it is still not enough for me, ES6 and EC6 (2023) would be my cup of tea.
I think a lot of the steer away from wagons in the US is that they normally fall under brands that either dont have high reliability, are too expensive, or maintenance is through the roof. Bring this to the US at a reasonable price and they'd sell every one of them. I know i want one!
The factory produced for Nio is JAC, in the past 20 years, JAC has been known for producing terribly unreliable cars. Chinese cars have even worth so-called "quality" than Korean cars (there are a lot of different aspects in the word "quality"). US had Volvo before, which is a very reliable car and it does not sell. Wagon is such a niche market, I own a wagon in US, but most US customers buy SUVs or Trucks when wagon is most likely what they need.
Subaru Outback - we need an electric version
Kyle, it looks like you are in love! I love all the software features and the build features. It seems a level above Tesla in most aspects, except for possibility of full self drive wonder when Nio will be profitable.
At the moment autonomous driving is something in the range of 5 years at best. Right now, excellent hardware is mostly important.
NIO's full self driving capability is at the same level as Tesla - it's still some years away. Tesla's ability has been hyped for almost a decade, but they're still not there yet whatsoever.
But NIO has much, much better hardware.
Currently 1800 Battery swaps in china target of 2700 by the end of the year. 🎉

Nio is beautiful. And people sometimes forget about the swapping stations.
Nio making the cellphone the main reason the car can use cell phone cpu and memory for secondary sources. (car and cell phone use Qualcomm IC) all EV cars use hundred IC and EV cars often need update the software. after many updates car become slow and response time longer.(touch control and command) the Nio cellphone help keep fast Nio cars for decades. in the future you don't need to change your car for make it faster. Each year update your Nio phone is okay. this is revolution for EV car industry.
Interesting. Thank you for sharing.
REEEALLY hope to see this car/manufacturer in the US.
Shame that there's no battery swapping demonstration in the post..... But it was good to see in the comments that almost everybody was open-minded about battery swapping....
I've recently got this ET5 Touring (used to be ET5T, now touring is just a spec under the ET5 model name), and driven the crap out of it. It's extremely fun even on road trips, especially after draining the battery to near 5%, I can just head to the nearest battery swap station and get about 95% charge in 10 minutes (different battery, 100kWh, charge limited to 95% to protect the shared batteries I assume, but hey you can buy the car without the battery and subscribe to them, 75/100/150 kWh). The interior is super nice and I even set it to the Mercedes Red and Blue theme for the night drives, and Pink and Baby Blue for the Barbie vibes. The only two gripes of my ownership would be: the charging infrastructure in China -- I gotta charge it up a bit before reaching the swapping station but only 1 out of 5 fast charging station worked, super frustrating; then there's the battery overheating -- after driving at 200kph+ for a few minutes, the acceleration was astrocious and the regenerative braking was reduced. I'd def choose this in the US as well if it supports the Tesla Supercharging Network.

Hope it comes in America!
I drove the sedan and hope soon to be able to drive the Touring. Really impressed and interested to buy one. Tried the battery swap and that got me to change my mind on it: think it is a fantastic add-on option to DC charging
battery swap is great for long trips. a 500 miles trip I would stop for about 2h to charge any other ev including teslas. with battery swap you spend a total of 10 minutes. how is that even questionable?
@@tonypaca3015not really. I tried mapping it out in ABRP and got 1:09 for my car that charges pretty slow but flat 90-110kW and 30min for a Model S LR for an 800km/600 mile trip. Still would be an improvement to just stop for perhaps 5min for a swap and in practice another short charging stop after that. In reality I would always stop for 40min for lunch and then need another one or two quick pee or coffee break charges so the saved time would be maybe 25min.
