I didn't realize you were at El Camino. I had some astronomy and telescope making classes there back in the early 90's with Prof. Perry and someone else I cannot remember. Those were fun times!

Yes, I knew professor Perry. El Camino is a great college. My wife and I met there and all of our kids went to college there.

@@MichelvanBiezen I had to go pull out the old notebooks from my El Camino astronomy studies. My mistake... the two instructors were Prof. Perry Hacking and Dr. Eric Martin, and the year would have been 1990. I still have the text book, which was "Astronomy: The Cosmic Journey, Fourh Edition" by: William K. Hartmann. I loved that book, and I loved El Camino College.

This is like the cardboard yacht race held in the Black River that became an annual event in my home town in MI. Those watercraft were built according to strict rules that limited the amount of wood that could be used in the construction. The "yachts" were "manned" by crews of several people. Awards were given for the best designed yacht, the best dressed crew (one year the winning crew wore formal attire including evening gowns on the women), and, of course a first place award for crossing the finish line - or at least making closest to the finish line before capsizing or going down. The best was the Titanic Award for the most spectacular sinking. I recall one of those in which the yacht with its four-man crew folded at midship like closing a suitcase and went down like a rock taking all hands with it (no worries - they all surfaced quickly).

These events are super fun, and the students making the boars learn a lot from the experience.

    The bottom was too broad.
The force was equally spread across the bottom but your weight was concentrated at one point on top causing it to capsize.
Needed to make a hull. Low point along the middle of the bottom, front to back.

A concrete canoe? That sounds like a challenge.

@@MichelvanBiezen Hints: minimize concrete, maximize displaced volume 😉
