  • Jon has researched the major differences between basic "waiver" motorcycling course curriculum and the skills riders potentially outgrow quickly. Coaches and experienced riders on any type of motorcycle may be interested in understanding the techniques taught in basic motorcycling courses that become somewhat obsolete for experienced riders. This one has to do with the focus on too conservative a corner entry speed.

Is it safe to downshifting/gear change while in the corner?. or as much as possible you should already done doing downshifting and slowing before corner entry.

The appropriate gear would ideally be chosen before tipping into the curve (starting lean). However, downshifting is definitely permissible for experienced riders in a curve, but it must be done very gently...meaning release the clutch slowly. If someone is on a new motorcycle with shifting assistance of some kind, then it will likely be as smoothly executed as possible by the motorcycle electronics. Upshifting is not usually a problem while leaning in a curve. Thanks for the comment and question.
