ABOUT ME:
My name is Shelly and I’m a 44-year-old web geek that jumped off the deep end into the makeup and beauty world. I’ve got dry skin, fine lines, and sun spots that I desperately wish to get rid of or cover up! Cameo appearances by my rescue cats Daffy, Polly, Ziva, and Merlin.
I purchased all products used in this video unless noted as PR. All opinions are honest and my own. Some links are affiliate links and may earn me commission at no cost to you. I appreciate your support of my channel!

I love that cat in the background 8 hours later ☺ great review thank you!
Foundation looks incredible on you. It did oxidize a bit, but not noticeable until you pointed it out. I love how Ziva plops herself down while you are filming. She's so good❣🐱
Thanks, Rene! Ziva always comes running to sit under the filming lights 😹
@@goow she's so sweet! 💕
Thank you from another 40 something with very dry skin.
I purchased and absolutely love! Thank you again and so very appreciated! You are fantastic!!!
I'm so glad!! I'm wearing it right now :-D
This foundation looks lovely on you! I’m always pleased to learn about another product for dry skin. Appreciate your thorough reviews! 💕
Thanks, Patricia! I just ordered the zero shade in this one. I think the 1CR will be perfect for summer, and either zero or a mix of the two for winter. It's a great one. I'm 3 wears in and love it.
I love your reviews! I have dry skin and I’m 57. I have never been disappointed when I use products you like.
Great minds!!! :-D
Looks beautiful on you! I'm adding this to my "to try" list. Love your paw print earrings!
Thanks, Kate! My mom got them for me for Christmas :)
I just love your cat just chillin there lol so cute
Wow. That was some serious GLOW. It made your skin look SO luminous. I loved it. I don’t wear foundation normally, but I’d be willing to try this one if it made my skin look THAT good. 😍
Thanks, Jeannie! I never used to wear foundation but somewhere along the line, I became addicted 😂
Love the luminosity of the foundation. I also like that it doesn't dry down completely which is what I look for and I don't powder. I'm going to pick up a sample! Thank you Shelly! Thumbs up too for those kitty cat earrings!
Thanks, Francesca! Let me know how you like it! Mom got me the paw print earrings for Christmas :)
Looks absolutely beautiful on you!!
I see the PMG gloss... Aaaaand... Now I officially want everything in this video...!
Thanks! I'm in full-on hoarding mode with the PMG glosses now...
Me tooooo!
So nice to see a high end looking so good when so many others fail at the end of the day. The color looks really good here, I bet it's perfect come summer. :)
Yep this will definitely be my summer shade.
I’m definitely gonna try this! It looked beautiful on you! I love how Ziva watches you while you put on your makeup!😻 So cute!! She’s like I wanna be on camera too!!💕💋
She always gets her moment of fame 😺
Looked beautiful on you! Have you ever thought of doing a ""My Favourite Brand X foundation" video? The spreadsheet will tell us which scored the highest grade but that won't necessarily be your favourite to wear. It would be interesting and very helpful for any of us wanting to try out a brand for the first time but not knowing which of their foundations to start with.
I'll add that to the list, Kathryn! Generally speaking my go-to foundations are all in the A range. EL Double Wear would be the one I'd grab if I know I'm going to be sweating or in a lot of heat/humidity. I know it holds up great in bad weather. Dior Backstage or YSL All Hours would be my go-to mattes. The MR Fast Base Stick or Hourglass Vanish is what I reach for when I want a fast face or when I'm traveling. MAC Studio Sculpt or Philosophy Hope in a Jar or now, probably this new Dior when my skin is feeling super dry (Lancome Renergie Lift in the summer, because I have self-tanning shades of that one). I think the Philosophy has been discontinued and I'm almost out of it, so it's good that I found this Dior :) CYO is a good one in the winter for me when I want full coverage with just a satin look, not matte but not dewy. I just ordered some darker shades so I can use the CYO year-round. I wear the Revlon PhotoReady Candid to work a lot - wears well all day and keeps the daily cost of my face down rather than wearing high-end every day. Everything else that scores well just gets random use based on my mood, but these are the go-to everyday ones I reach for.
You absolute star, that's wonderful!!!!!! Now I have a list of what to try to start with - better go for a high end one so I can get someone to shade match me, I'm horrible at that!
I did not know you felt this way about Revlon candid. I have quite a few tubes of that I purchased when it was at a good low price and set them aside to be opened later and then after so many thin liquidy Foundation I opened one one day and it seems like a heavy cream so I didn't think I liked it as much now I don't know whether I should use a very very wet sponge to make it a little thinner or whether I should add a little bit of Mac face and body to it to get it to make it a thinner substance or maybe I should just open my eyes and my mind to the fact that I could still work with a cream foundation?
Great review! I am also 44 years old with dry skin. I really do like this foundation. It does not exentuation my fine lines, and keeps me moisurised all day- which is rare, but i did find it to wear off a bit throughout a full (sweaty)workday. PS. LOve your ladycat. I have two cats.
Yes I do get some wear in the warmer temperatures, too. Cats are the best! I've got 4 of them around here :)
Looks good on you. I'm loving the clea du peau and sulwahasoo perfecting cushion for my old dry textured and fine lined skin. I'm curious about this one on me. 💗😊😍
Hmmm...I think I might have to try this one. Going on 60 here and I'm over matte foundations. Looking for something with some radiance but without that greasy, sweaty "hey girl, when was the last time you washed your face" look. As always, thanks for the great video Shelly.
Yes I can't take the sweaty look!! I've worn this 3 times now and it has always stayed true to that initial luminous look. It mixes well too (I tried it mixed with my CYO to lighten it just a smidge).
🤣🤣
I want to try this, too. I've always gotten matte foundations and I'm 28, with super dry skin. I could never figure out why my makeup cracked or looked dry. Now I know and am hunting for days for a new foundation with a dewy finish to see if that will help me not have creases or dry patches
I’ve been lurking on your channel for quite some time and don’t ever comment but I needed to today because this is the best foundation I’ve seen on you. I’d love to see it again in a lighter shade but, really, you look amazing in it.
Thanks, Elena! I like it so much that I have ordered shade zero :) I think this 1CR will be a good summer shade for me.
Just lost a post i I worked on for a long time will come back later and add it.
Great list, and thanks for all your work!!
This foundation really looked good on you!!! I just placed an order for this foundation- I’m a little nervous about the shade I chose though- hoping it won’t be too dark
Hey Shelly, the foundation looks very nice on you. I like the color, even though it may be slightly dark , but it really makes you have that ‘Peaches and cream’ look.
I have rosacea so I’m always looking for skincare, or something natural-looking ig light coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer when my face is acting up. Thanks for the review.
Thanks, Ross! I just ordered the Kiehl's BB cream to try for light makeup days. Of course I'll do a video on it!
Okay how exciting....this popped up RIGHT before the 15DOF announcement video. I'm overstimulated with excite. 😶😶
😂
Foundation, the love of my life.
*This foundation looks freaking beautiful!
Ps- I've been digging your makeup lately! Those colors are just so flattering on you 💖
I love foundation!!! :-D and thanks! My eyeshadow inspirations have been so random lately! 😂
@@goow Love a good makeup change-up!
I love it on you! I have a very light complexion and very dry. I am looking for a good hydrating foundation and from this video, I would like to try it. Thanks!
I'm having great luck with this one - 3 wears so far, and it's performed this well every time. I got a little bit longer wear out of it with the Tatcha silk canvas primer (but still nowhere near the 24 hours they say... I got about 10 with the Tatcha).
Plz do a battle of the A grade foundations! How fun would that be! I just received the Laura Mercier lumi one. I’m enjoying it, but it’s still a little drying on me & not very “lumi” lol. Let’s find your holy grail in a battle of your best foundations!
So strange with the LM one! Maybe just an inaccurate name :-D It would be so hard to choose between all of the A's - I love them each for different reasons! 😂
Looks really good! I wanted to tell you I am loving my Body Shop Fresh Nude foundation so far on my dry skin.
I need to look into that one! I keep hearing good things!
This looks beautiful! Hopefully Sephora has samples. Thanks for another great product review 😊
Definitely worth trying! I went ahead and ordered the zero shade :) I like it enough to have a year-round color match!
This foundation looked beautiful on u girly. Love it!! Gorgeous❤️🙌🏼💋💄
Thanks, Jill!
Hey Shelly, I love your foundation reviews! We have identical skin and I love when you can direct me to the perfect make up/skincare. Have you ever considered doing a dupe video on maybe your top 5 foundations. I would love to find a drugstore dupe for these!! Thanks
Hi Heidi! I'll go through my list and see if I can align any dupes! The one off the top of my head is definitely the Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick vs Hourglass Vanish Stick. They are both favorites and wear nearly identically on me.
I got it! Dior forever skin glow! Love it! Thanks! I’m 1CR too!
It's such a pretty foundation! Still in my ultimate favorites :)
Looks great Shelly!!! Love the eye look too 😀
Thanks, Samantha!
Wow! This looks stunning on you! I may have to try it.
Thanks, Samantha!
Finally I found someone trying the 1cr! Thank you! I think this might be too dark for me. 1c1 is a little too dark and if this is darker? Nope 😞
Yep it's a little too dark for me - I think it will work for summer. I bought 0N and it's a good match for me in the winter. (I'm using it in this week's most recent videos - the Elf videos from Wednesday and tonight/Friday).
Go for 1 Neutral. It is acually rosy enough, and will be light enough for you.
Good review. I have dry skin and it was very difficult to find such a thorough review from someone with dry skin. Thank you so much. I'm getting this. Please also share some more good foundations for dry skin.
Thanks, Amber! Here's my master list of foundation reviews, ranked. At the top right corner of the spreadsheet, there's a search box, and if you type in "hydrating" it'll show only the foundations that are hydrating on me: geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
It is a pretty foundation. Planning on skipping as the ingredients look bad 4 me. I may get a sample, cause..so pretty.
I'm almost wondering if their non-specific "alcohol" in the ingredients is fatty alcohols rather than drying alcohols. I always assume that if they don't specify, they're drying alcohols, but I find it so hard to believe that something with drying alcohols so high in the list wouldn't dry me out. I've worn this 3 times so far and have had no drying at all.
Love your reviews! Possible suggestion KOSAS tinted face oil foundation. I’ve never heard of the brand but it’s new item at Sephora. Or any high end foundation you haven’t reviewed. I’ll watch them all. Ha!
Oooh new brand I haven't heard of! I will look! The Hourglass foundation just arrived - I think it will be my review for Friday :)
So happy I found your channel! You look fab & your skin is gorgeous!! I’ve been considering this Dior foundation, and my coloring is very similar to yours, so fingers crossed that this shade looks half as good on my mug lol! Looking forward to seeing more from you!!😊👍
I love this foundation! I picked up the shade 0N as well - I think the 1CR will be perfect for me in the summer. There's no cool version of the zero shade so I went neutral. My skin tone is basically neutral leaning very slightly cool. I have a swatch of the 0N in the swatches for the Kosas foundation review from Friday.
This makeup looks amazing on you damn it makes me want to buy this!
BTW, I love the quality and thoroughness of your makeup reviews. You remind me a lot of Thataylaa. I am obsessed with makeup, but am subscribed to less than 10 beauty youtubers as I am very picky. You just made the list and this is only the 2nd video of yours that I have watched.
You're awesome, lady. 💓 thank you!
Thanks, Foxy! Welcome! I always link Thataylaa in my foundation reviews because she's completely my inspiration (and she's the best foundation reviewer on UA-cam, hands-down). Here's my searchable master list of all of my foundations, ranked - geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
I love your foundation reviews! I also have dry skin so your videos are really helpful. I am struggling between Dior Forever Skin Glow and Too Faced Born This Way foundation. I watched both reviews and still don't know which one to get. Which one would you recommend as being better? Thank you! :)
Okay here is part of what I wanted to post and that is I just looked at your list again after a few months of not seeing it and noticed three foundations sort of toward the top of the list which had denatured alcohol in them and it surprised me because that's not so good for my skin and I didn't think you would like it either. The foundations were Dior backstage, YSL All hours , and Dior forever.. must go now will come back later ☺🌴☔
Beautiful finish.
It's the perfect dewy-not-sweaty! 😂
This foundation looks fabulous on you. I'd love to see you try the matte formulation of the Forever foundation as this one is maybe a little too glowy for me & maybe mixing them would be perfection on most days. Glow in the winter & matte in the summer, it could work, think about it...pretty please. I also bought the Backstage on your recommendation & love love love it! Thanks for your enjoyable videos & keep up the good work.
Backstage is so beautiful! I'll have to get my hands on the matte version of Forever!
Wow that looks beautiful! 😀👍🏼
Great review as always and the foundation looks great too!!! I would like to see a review of the Gressa foundation
Thanks! Gressa is on my list for my next shopping haul!
This foundation looked really great on you. I too was thinking you shouldn't see any breakdown at the 8 hour point for a "long" wearing foundation at that price point. Although it's just beautiful 💖
Thanks, Jill! I got it to wear a tiny bit longer with the Tatcha Silk Canvas primer - maybe 10 hours, but nowhere near the 24 hour claims. I think it will be pretty reliably an 8-10 hour foundation but not much more. I love the finish enough to forgive that but I wish they'd make more realistic claims (or just leave the wear claim off completely - if they hadn't claimed long wear, 8 hours would've been totally acceptable).
Hi Shelly.. The makeup looks beautiful!
Thanks, Karen!
this looks amazing, thanks for sharing
This looked a lot better than I was expecting given the ingredient list. Too bad about the shade range (and about their need to use fragrance in all their products. That needs to stop across the board.)
I don't mind fragrance in powders, if I like it. ;) Such as Tarte eyeshadow or Benefit bronzer or blushes. But I sure wish they would quit in the foundation & skin care.
I definitely expected it to be drying with the high-up alcohol. I've worn it 3 times now (twice since filming) and my opinion remains the same - it mixes well too (I tried mixing it with my CYO to lighten it just a smidge, and it wore just as well).
This looked really beautiful on you !
This looks very promising I am pretty interested in trying this one Shelly!
Let me know how it goes if you do!
Ooohhhhhhhh! I totally channeled you! 😲
I guessed A-!
I like it...I like it a lot!
Darn it...another Dior product I’m feening!
I finally switched phones, I got a XR. I absolutely luuuurve it!
Take care have an awesome weekend!
Great minds! :-D Congrats on the new phone!! I would be a far less happy human without my iPhone 😂
Geek Out of Water
I wondered and checked if you’d tried the Estée Lauder youth...something or another? I was cruising Ulta and saw that...perhaps you will??? 😘😁
Great review! Thanks!
Thanks!!
Need to try this one! I’m glad we both had the same experience with the new LM foundation. It looked way too drying on me so I’m hoping this Dior is a winner!
Yes the Dior is accurate to its name on me! The LM, not so much... at all.... 😂
@@goow I totally agree! Haha. Going to get a sample of the Dior today!
I just ordered this today in 2.5N I can't wait for it to get here Shelly!
GAH it's SO GOOD. I'm so close to calling it my holy grail but I want to see how it performs in the summer before I declare my first ever #1 favorite foundation.
Geek Out of Water Shelly honestly I think this is THE ONE 👏🏻 it's so great on my skin I can't believe it
Awesome! It looks AMAZING on you!
Thanks, Jennifer!
that looks great on you! I'm sold and going to purchase during the sephora sale!
Thanks, Megan! It has taken over as my favorite lately.
Dang girl! That looks beautiful on you. Wow! I might have to try that one.
After the bummers recently I was happy to find a winner! I might get the shade lighter. This will probably be perfect for summer for me.
Wow Taylor Wynn said the foundation is high to medium coverage on the first pass! And she uses Acutane which dries you out completely.
The finish looked so pretty on you! I had a sample of this from Sephora this summer and I really enjoyed it, too! I just haven’t pulled the string to buy it yet.
It's still probably my top favorite foundation :)
It does bum me out that alcohol is so high in the ingredients list so if I buy it I would probably wear it for more special makeup days/nights
Hello sweet lady, thank you for the review! You look lovely💜
Thanks, Cheryl!
Shelly, Ive been loving Makeup Revolution foundation you reviewed. Its been amazing for my dry skin! Could u review IL Makiage "Woke up like this" foundation?
The Lawless one? I didn't have as good of luck with it as I had hoped - ua-cam.com/video/ZPBpBnoge1o/v-deo.html
That's a beautiful foundation. I think I am going to have to try that one. I didn't even realize there was a new Dior foundation out. And yasss! I nailed the A-. I find the Dior foundations to be a little on the dark side. I have the 1C and 1CR in the Backstage foundation and they're even a smidge dark. Thanks for the review! Have you tried any of the new Cover FX primers? I'd be interested to see how this foundation works with the Tatcha Silk Canvas and maybe a couple of others. Maybe tweaking the primer would enhance the longevity.
I just got the Cover FX blurring primer - haven't tried it yet! And I tried this Dior with the Tatcha primer and got about 10 hours out of it - so it helped a bit but nowhere near the 24 hours in the name. I would love to see the tests these companies do and what they consider acceptable wear at the end of 24 hours. This one seems to run a smidge darker than the 1s in the Backstage - just a tiny bit.
@@goow I just picked up the Cover FX gripping primer. I'm hoping that will provide longevity for all my foundations. And I got the high performance setting spray. Talk about a beautiful mist!
Foundation looks amazing on you! What primer would you suggest for EL double wear for dry skin?
Hi Connie! Double Wear has been a works-with-anything kind of foundation for me. It's so reliable. When my skin is super dry I will go with either the Nyx Hydra Touch primer, Smashbox Primerizer, or Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base, and then go in on my lines and pores with a smoothing primer. Too Faced Hangover Replenishing 3 in 1 is also great but it's lighter weight so I use it when I have dry skin in the summer. I need more oomph in the winter - I'm way more dry.
Omg I got matched yesterday and got samples!!!! Yet again, thank u for reading my mind lol however I was told it's up to medium coverage... Also, apparently the more you use it the better your skin will be.
I'm hopeful for those skin care claims because I will be wearing this one a lot! How do you like it so far?
@@goow I only got a sample as finding my match is nearly impossible 😭😭😭 however I can tell already that i've never had a foundation blending out perfectly within SECONDS!!! 😍
Hello there, have u got any updateon this yet? Still debating between this and the Face and Body..... Hm..... Help!!!!! 😁😁😁
I’m 45 with really dry skin. Might have to get a sample of this
It's so nice - and my skin is as dry as it has ever been right now!
Great Video!!
Thanks, Ashleen!
The Hi Shelly, what do you think about mixing the Dior glow with a smidge of the Dior matt for slightly combo skin in CA summer weather (ie HOT)? When I fly back to CA, I’ve got such a short amt of time to pick up all the makeup I’m interested in. Gosh, wish I could email you. Only have YT in S Africa.
I bet it would mix wonderfully because both of those wear beautifully!
We have the same skin type (I am extra dry). I am staying here. I bought the 0N...I have been looking for a foundation for a year( menopause) the best have been L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB and No7 Restore & Renew (go figures). I will try this today. Have you reviwed No1 from Chanel?
Just recently yes! ua-cam.com/video/A1_yMLwxwvI/v-deo.html
This looks really great on you! Wish they were CF though 😔 How bad was the fragrance?
I wish we'd get a nationwide animal testing ban in the US and just be done with it. 50 years from now we're going to look back and think we were barbarians. Good news on the fragrance front - it alarmed me in the ingredients but I don't even notice it on application. I don't have a sensitive nose - it does have a slight scent - but unless I stick my face up to it and sniff I don't notice it.
Geek Out of Water I feel like everything they could learn from animal testing, they have already, so just stop it! It seems like we should be beyond this by now.
Also, are you going to review the new Hourglass liquid foundation? The colour range pulls pretty yellow, but there are a couple of cool undertones.
I just got the new Hourglass! I'm hoping to film it this week for Friday :)
Good foundation.... still not rated better than my doublewear.... and I appreciate you using the 1C1Coolbone (my shade, too) to swatch.... since this has a lighter shade without an undertone change, I might check it out!! Good review!!
Double Wear I think will forever be on my top 5's. It's been so reliable for so long that just that history of being unstoppable counts for something! And I figure a lot of people own it, so it makes a good comparison swatch :) though probably half of my bottle has been used just on swatches 😂
Geek Out of Water lol. And it isn’t cheap! But definitely worth the price...at least when it’s on your face, not on your arm! 😂
Wow, I thought this one was really pretty! I love the finish, performance (it wore quite gracefully & didn't seem to oxidise much) and even the undertone (it seemed like a true cool pink and not a pretending to be pink but is actually warm peachy-salmon). If ever I was to fork out for an expensive foundation, this might be the one. As for the 24 hour claim, I often wonder with the longwear claims on foundations if it's meant to be xx hours without touchups or xx hour allowing for touching up.... I can't think of many foundations that actually specify that.
I've never seen them specify! I've been trying out a Caudalie refreshing spray and tried it once to refresh this foundation (I've worn it 3 times now) and I just pressed a sponge over it to sort of re-blend the foundation on my chin and it worked pretty well. Maybe they do mean 24 hours with touch-ups. I won't be staying awake that long to test it! :-D
Do you find it drying? I tried this foundation and was set on getting this (Sephora VIB) but found out alcohol is pretty high on the list. Like you, I also have dry skin. TIA
I don't find it drying at all. My guess is that since they do not specify what kind of alcohol it is, it's probably a fatty alcohol (which is actually a moisturizing ingredient). Most of the alcohols with a -yl ending word in front of them are not drying, whereas the SD alcohols and denatured alcohols are drying.
What a beautiful finish! I think the shade is not too far off, maybe a good summer shade? My dry skin was doing pretty well this year until that awful polar vortex last week. OMG! My skin all over is soooo dryyyy! I'm doing my usual moisturizing routine with an extra layer of facial oil and I'm still dry. Ugh! Even my dewiest foundation that has to be powdered down looks matte. Overall though my facial skin looks far better than it did last winter but this cold weather really wreaks havoc. :-/ Was Ziva sitting up there all day? :-D
Yep I think this will be my perfect summer shade. I ordered the foundation in the zero shade (they only have a neutral undertone available but that should work for me too). Should be here any day! My face is so glad the polar vortex is over - especially my lips! It's a beautiful week here in the 60s (a good 15 degrees above normal). I'll take it after that arctic blast! Ziva hangs out up there anytime the studio lights are on. I do my makeup with them on too so that has become her little perch :)
The foundation looks great on you!
Thanks, Darrele!
I have been recently getting dry patches on my forehead, temples, and on my cheek bones. Do you know of something that will help with that? I am at a loss looking for things to help it out. I drink lots of water. I am 42. I will try this foundation because l love the way it looks on you and we do have the same skin tone but, what other products do you use? I am so happy I found your channel.
Most of the time my Belif True Cream Moisture Bomb moisturizer can knock out my dry patches in a few days. When they are worse than that, I use the Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisturizing Balm, which is ridiculously expensive. I had a sample that I used for a year and it was the only thing that could fix my really bad dry skin/irritation breakouts. So I waited for a 20% off sale and finally bought the full size jar a couple months ago. It lasts forever but the price hurts. I discovered it after I had done a concealer test video, and all of the wiping under my eyes made that whole area turn red and cracked and flaking and burning. After 2 weeks I still couldn't get it to go away with my regular moisturizers, and tried that sample on it, and it was cleared up and stopped flaking after 3 days of use. Now it's the only thing that works when my skin get super bad. Here's a video of my night time skin care routine - ua-cam.com/video/fPRGRjowbm0/v-deo.html and here is my morning routine - ua-cam.com/video/UhNIxM2DLaQ/v-deo.html
@@goow Thank you for the advise. I will definitely go with the Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisturizing Balm. It's 100 at Sephora but, as you said and a lot of other customers concurred it lasts a long time. My dry patches are pretty bad and seem to be there regardless if I have make-up on or not. I was looking into the Bobbi Brown Vit Enriched Priming Moisturizer but both would be WAY too much for me to spend. I'll stick to taking care of my patches. Have a great weekend and thank you for your videos.
I have dry skin and I just want to k ow why your go to favourite foundation
Hi Re Ha! When my skin is very dry, my favorites are MAC Studio Sculpt, MAC Mineralize, Hourglass Vanish Stick, Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick, and this one from Dior will likely make the list of favorites! If you visit my foundation list and at the top right corner of the spreadsheet, type "hydrating" in the search box, it will show only the foundations that I thought were hydrating on me, ranked in order. geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
So pretty on you!😀
Thanks, Cassy!
I really liked how it looked on you!!! Now I want it!!! Lol
Thanks, Jessie!
Hi friend! How’s the chemist confession stuff treating you? I think the essence is drying my skin out but not totally sure. Still loving the balm.
I bought the travel pack and it's in my to-try bin! It's a whirlwind over here. Things should settle down in the next couple weeks and I'll be more organized in getting through my stash!
Geek Out of Water oh I bet! Hey how’s the tenure process going? :)
You could use that Chanel as a cream blush!
Right?! I bought it when I was self-tanning... which I do like 3 weeks out of every year lol. I figured at least I'd have one foundation that matches me.
hi, shelly! i think we all are ready for a foundation fest in the near future! this foundation looked really, really, really good. i don't know why the beauty companies are so hot and heavy to market a 24 hour foundation. it's just not realistic, imho, unless you are planning it sit in one spot all day, not eat or blow or tear or live. "she was a gorgeous corpse"? lol. i also wish more foundations would be available in samples so you could truly pick a shade without a mega investment prior to paying the big bucks for the full size. i suspect the shade you have will be a great one for warmer weather. love the lip color too. have a good weekend! we've got storms here so it's raining like crazy and i have a small leak in the family room - i'll be manning some bucket duty - can't catch a break here. take care! ~k
I am rolling laughing over here at the thought of that "luminous mortuary look" 😂This will definitely be my summer shade. I just ordered the zero shade for a hopeful winter match!
PS yours skin looks great for your age!!! My first time watching your video. Thank you! Great video.
Thanks, Hanne! And welcome! If you have any requests for product reviews, just let me know! My master list of foundations that I've reviewed (and ranked) is here: geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
I love this foundation so much😭it’s on my bucket list. & it costs $80 in Australia 🙄
It is still one of my top top favorites. Yikes that hurts the wallet!
Real pretty glow to your skin
Thanks, Kris!
Have you found the correct shade for this foundation whether it’s 1N or 0N? I’m cool yellow around NC 15 range but probably 12 or 13 for the correct undertone and have found dior foundations to be either too pink or orange on my skin tone 😭
I ended up getting 1CR as well and I think that is the closest for me, but I'm more NW15 so I'd bet the CR would be too pink for you. 1 suits me most of the year vs 0 being a little too pale except for mid-winter.
Geek Out of Water thank you very much. Love watching your vids ❤️
Please recommend me best hydrating foundation with Dewy look and good coverage name. Because I have same skin tone like u
Hi Jam! My 2 favorites right now are this one - the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation (I reviewed shade 1CR which was a little too dark for me, so I bought shade 0N and it is perfect for winter for me), and the Ilia True Skin Serum foundation. I have shade Texel in that one which is my summer shade. I would recommend shade Formentera if you are my skin coloring now in the winter. I have all of my foundations ranked on my web site - scroll down to the list and at the top right corner, you can type in the search box. If you type "hydrating" it will show only the foundations that are hydrating on me - or search "dewy" to see only dewy ones. geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
Geek Out of Water thank you so much for ur response and guiding 😁 I will definitely go to purchase it but I am in india I will search it surely
Looks great on you . 👍🏼
Thanks, Meme!
This looks so gorgeous and smoothing on you! I want to get a sample of this from Sephora to try, it looked so pretty on you!! I recently found on Mercari the Estee Lauder perfectionist foundation, man its pretty on the skin as well and does that blurring thing too. And its lightweight w medium coverage. I think you would like it. It has a weird coffee fragrance though, but not awful, I just waxnt expecting that scent in a foundation. But its been my go to recently as well as the YSL one, the one in the long glass bottle. That one is VERY smoothing and pretty too.
I'll check out the EL for sure! I went back and ordered the zero shade of the Dior - and then when it arrived I realized I accidentally ordered the regular Dior Forever, not the Skin Glow, but I've never tried that one so it's in my bin for a review, and THEN I went back and ordered the zero shade of Skin Glow and it should be here today :-D So much money on foundation this week!
I just got a sample of this and I can’t get it to stick to my face lll. I’ve been using the Drunk Elephant retinol and my skin is so exfoliated I can only use certain foundations! Lol
My DE retinol just arrived but I haven't tried it yet! I may be headed for some no-makeup-makeup days 😂
You should do a blooper vid one day of your cat in the background lol
LOL I wish I could remember the video... one time she was trying to swat at the light and completely fell off the cabinet. Her face looked like a meme. I used to take swatch videos on a separate table and my other cat would jump up there and just walk right in front of the camera when I was swatching. Yeah I think I will start tagging the cat bloopers so I can compile them someday!
Geek Out of Water I’m so late seeing your reply but please do! Ha!
Dior’s foundations have alcohol ingredients up high.i don’t know why wouldn’t they change it.same as Lancôme teint idole 😞
They list alcohol but they don't specify whether they are fatty alcohols or drying alcohols. I suspect they may be fatty alcohols in this case because this foundation is not at all drying on my already-dehydrated skin. Fatty alcohols are moisturizing (typically the ones that have a word ending in -yl in front of the name, like cetyl alcohol). SD alcohols and denatured alcohols are drying. When they only say "alcohol" (like here), there's no way to know which it is. Based on how this one affects my skin, my guess is that it's a fatty non-drying alcohol.
I actually got a sample of this and the other new formulation matte one and I may get both and mix them- this one broke up a little on me but mixed they were perfection. Shade 0N was also not too light, it did oxidize like 1/2 shade (the old Dior forever lightest shade was way too dark because it oxidized like 3 shades). My face is a peeling wreck with 5 zits from that LM foundation and this looked pretty good so it must be hydrating, all hydrating foundations break up on my nose and chin though.
I wonder if the LM foundation is what started the underground not-yet-a-zit that is taunting my chin... grrrr.
This looks nice but will pass due to the alcohol and fragrance. Does Mac studio sculpt still work for you. I hear so many breakout from Mac so I’m always nervous to try x
Yep I still love Studio Sculpt! I have 3 MAC foundations and they all work very well for me. I'm not prone to breakouts so I'm a bad judge of that, but even the Studio Fix Fluid which is more matte works on my dry skin. I wore it every day for all of my holiday travels in 2017 and even with that much consecutive wear, it didn't dry me out. Mineralize is the most dewy on me and Studio Sculpt is really good on my winter skin.
I swear, there is a meeker for nostril creases foundation.
Shelley, when I saw the neon green top of your T-shirt image I thought you were in a weed T-shirt. Lol
😂😂😂
I think this is one of the prettiest foundations on you. It may not match as well as you like, but I thought it was dead on as you applied it. As my skin ages, it needs more hydration in a foundation. But I've found that none of my hydrating ones last and they usually transfer. They just seem to wear away throughout the day. Then there is the issue of texture. Dewey, glow, sheen, whatever they call it, is not very flattering to textured skin. As highlighter makes our cheek bones pop, glow makes our texture POP. Ugh!
Thanks, Joan! So far I'm very much enjoying this one!
The volume is way to low.
After using this for a month do you like it better than the Dior Backstage?
I think I am going to say equal until I know how the Skin Glow wears in the heat/humidity. Backstage seems to work for me when my skin is both normal and dry, and if the Skin Glow can work as summer comes around, I will probably say I like Skin Glow just a smidge more, but only because I'm digging a dewy finish lately. They've both performed spectacularly so far no matter what condition my skin has been in.
Alcohol + fragrance high on the ingredients list = a big nope from me. I wish these brands didn’t do that When I smell a perfumey foundation I don’t think luxury, I think “what are they covering up?” and that they don’t care about the long term health of my skin.
Right?! It seems so backwards - the high end brands should have the money to do the R&D to find better alternatives for undesirable ingredients.
This foundation looks good on you.
Thanks, Teresa!
I tried this foundation so many ways and couldn’t get it to work on me. I want a big fan of the alcohol in it so maybe it’s for the best!!!
I was surprised that the alcohol didn't impact it on my skin. I'm super dry this time of year. I've worn this twice since filming (once mixed with my CYO to lighten it a smidge) and it has been consistent on me so far. Bummer it didn't work for you but - I agree, there's nothing bad about NOT putting more alcohol on your face.
