I absolutely love the album, just lush soundscapes that sweep you away. My favorites are Nothing to Declare, Nothing Changes, Phradies song, and Mother Nature
Definitely a slow burn as you said. I wasn’t crazy about it at first but the more I listened to it the more it grew on me. I really love it now and I’ll keep coming back to it
the "loss of life" isn't death, its losing who you are/were when you are now responsible for a child. Life is ending, and yet begins again. The albums lyrics on most of the tracks convey a bittersweet feeling about the sacrifice and conscious relegation of who you were in exchange for "disney on ice" and the desires of your creation.
Not in love with either of her last two compared to Have You In My Wilderness, which is incredible. I liked her stuff with a little more structure and melodic accessibility.
Such a different beast to LDA which had an immediency to it. This takes time but is such a rewarding record for your investment. Slowly creeping its way to the best of their output, which Congratulations currently occupies for me.
Not easy to please, you are haha. I feel like MGMTs appeal is mainly how much personality they put into their music, no one can ever really imitate that and its always fun and unique. This album hit an unexpected emotional punch for me. When Andrew says "I wish I was joking" I believe him lmao. Sometimes life is too real and you cant mask it with funny songs about the bubblegum dog...
My personal AOTY. Took me a while, almost entirely washed over me on first listen, but it has completely clicked for me. Nothing Changes is my song of the year so far.

I’ll have to return!

Thanks for this perspective - certainly deepens the experience
Great take

My fav album of this year. Nothing to declare is my fav song of the year. It’s not flashy, It’s low key but when you spend time with it it’s rewarding
The snare on that song is 🤌
