One of my favorite things about Airwolf is the startup sequence. It gets me chills every time when it flies. RIP String and Dom and the original Bell 222 helicopter that crashed in Germany back in 1992. Never forget. Long live the wolf.

The Only Aircraft Of Its Kind. The Startup, The Outfits, Helmets, AWESOME. RIP JMV, EB, & AC. No Doubt, The Baddest TV Series There Was. Enjoyed The First Episode😊.

Season One was really the only season that Bellisario really had any control over unfortunately. The network wanted the show to be more family friendly and hence why he left after Season Two. I honestly never cared for the show much when Caitlin was added. And as bad as Season 4 can be, at least it was more in tone story wise with Season 1 in regards to Cold War related content and such. It just needed a much better budget to back it up.
NOW THAT THEY HAVE ALL PASSED ON, Jan-Michael, Ernest, and The Lady seem to have an almost mythic quality to them, like legendary heroes of the past. Their tales to be told for generations to come. On a somewhat lighter side, I hope and pray Jean and Alex are doing well!

A great intro that still works today - AIRWOLF is a show I still enjoy watching even now. Seasons 1-3 especially! Though if a helicopter really did go supersonic wouldn't the rotors fall off? But this was the 80s, anything was possible then!!
Well, even if the rotors could be created to withstand supersonic speeds, they still wouldn't be generating Lift for flight, or acting as lifting bodies for controlability purposes either.. So, either way.. In fact, with the turbos engaged & the aircraft speeding along at supersonic..the slightest input into rotor-based flight controls (as oposed to conventional rudders & ailerons) at that speed, would only guarantee an instant crash anyway.. So, yeah..Airwolf had extra 'plot armour' in this regard, we loved this stuff in the 80's..and we were happy to let 'little things' like that slide.. Like all the damage she took, over all the episodes, that was magically gone & repaired each episode, as if they had a full aviation detailing workshop (and heavy weapons armoury) we never got to see out at the lair.. But, we let that slide too.. Clearly Archangel was being 'far more helpful' than he liked to let on.
It's academic because the main reason a helicopter can't be supersonic is a matter of physics anyway, the rotor tearing off would be another problem that would need to be solved, not the main hurdle. Whatever blade on the rotor is currently swinging to the back generates a small amount of backward pull that the rotor's lift needs to fight against to keep moving the helicopter forward. Up to a certain point this isn't a problem, but to reach mach 1 the rotor would need to spin faster to both generate more speed and fight more against this pull, but by going faster, the blades will swing back more often and the backward pull they generate when they do so will be stronger, so the rotor would have to spin faster to counteract it, but by spinning faster the blades will swing back more often and the pull they generate will be stronger, so the rotor would have to spin faster to counteract it.... This is why the explanation for how Airwolf works given just after this scene is that it specifically disengages the rotors and switches to separate jet engines. There's also a later episode where Dom tells Hawke they can't do supersonic at the moment because the disengager isn't working and they'll rip the blades right off. It's also why they film the aerial shots at different frame rates based on how fast Airwolf is supposed to be going in the scene; the frame rate is higher when Airwolf is going slow so the rotor is much more clearly captured on film, thus giving the impression the rotor is "on."
It's sad to see Jan-Michael Vincent, Ernest Borgnine, and The Lady gone forever. They are forever in our hearts. And, I know that they are over there patrolling heaven along side Roy Scheider, James Farentino, and Nose Heavy
I dont care what anyone says. I'm 51 yo and that is the most beautiful helicopter ever seen. Even the stunt pilot said after they put on the goodies it actually flew easier.
Iggy is the unseen master villain of this series. It was him trying to capture Airwolf ( through his mental control of humans) It’s sad that him and Caitlyn are probably the only cast left at this point
It was a drama that I loved so much during my elementary school days😍 I could not see it on air, and I could not feel my heart all day long when I went to school☺
The 1980's were the last good decade of great tv shows. Aside from Airwolf, we had Magnum P.I., Simon & Simon, A-Team, Dallas, The Greatest American Hero, MacGyver, Miami Vice, Quantum Leap, and Seinfeld.
One hell of good pilot in the series. Hovering just above the ground is an extremely hard thing to do, as is flying at very low level like is seen in a few episodes.
This original intro, is so much better than the BUTCHERED two part intro episode that's shown on 'Peacock', or all of the re-imagined UA-cam 'disco' postings! SMH. Thank you, for saving you vcr recording, and for uploading and sharing it.
From another camera angle it is clear the lizard didn't actually fall off the wheel, he had just finished trying to impregnate Airwolf, he casually jumped off and was like "later baby, I got rocks to climb" !! I mean it is the most beautiful thing ever! Can you blame him??

The Lady was so beautiful. Shame what happened to her. Museum, that's where she should end up. Air Rescue is a noble goal, but nothing for such a star. It's like putting that Trans Am playing Kitt in Knight Rider into a police service, it would be a joke, or a rarity at least, but no real use. Stars of their shows belong to places, where people could admire them, not being used as utility vehicles in services.
It's the pilot episode but re-edited to restore sex, violence and profanity that had to be removed for the two-parter version shown on U.S. network television. This was the version that I saw on British TV back in '84.
