As someone who tried to grow a local scene before IRL stuff struck (having to go abroad), I can definitely relate to Obama's points and learn from a few of them. Being able to host these kind of events, somebody will have to sacrifice something (time, money, etc.). It's inevitable. The only question is who're willing to do it. Accessibility regarding controller/venue fee/atmosphere is something that I'll definitely look into in the future. What Obama, Jiyuna and the crew have done here is for sure inspirational Oh yeah definitely dropping by Fighting Tuesday when I have a chance
I managed to take a trip to Fighting Tuesdays when I was out in Japan and it completely changed my perspective on the FGC. Before going I had never been to an offline event, but after coming back I began looking for communities around my area. Fighting games aren't massively popular where I am, but I managed to meet a load of really cool guys and now I'm playing offline pretty much every week and attending larger tournaments whenever I can, and I have to thank Fighting Tuesdays for all of that.
Before the pandemic hit, I saw this video as I was planning an exchange program to got to a uni in Tokyo. It got me so hyped to try and go there every week to connect with the community once I'd be in Japan. Obviously the pandemic got it all canceled and I didn't get to go, including offline Fighting Tuesdays. Coming back to this video now feels oddly nostalgic, makes me confront what this last year took away from us all. I hope the future lets us catch up with our plans.
Thank you very very much for this video. This interview is a great source of motivation to try and get a local going in my city. Best of luck in the future dude
definitely wanna drop by FT as part of a trip to Tokyo after Covid is "over". Anime Illuminati is helping to get me back into fighting games after years of swearing off them, so it's the least I can do hah
10:43 why can't I do this? lack of money and community... sadly FG are not that popular even less in some regions when a console cost way more then your monthly salary... (don't even start me to talk about renting a place for it and the light bill and all that crap) I often have this talk with friends of mine but we can't do it we're just a too poor for be able to pull it off and is not like we slack and we don't have a job, we all have daily 8 to 17+ jobs the salary it's just SHIT. And now we have all this pandemic crap happening that even make our salary go down due to lack of work and regardless to say it's impossible to do gatherings cos of the risks that imply so... yeah RIP for now, my dream for years now it's to have a place to go if is not weekly at least monthly to hang out with people playing fighting games (been thinking for a couple of years about just save up enough money and move to another country that's how hopeless I started to feel about this)
I hope one day you can make your dreams come true to some extent! Jiyuna and Obama were in Japan for years before FT was a thing, so if they ever had the idea to do something like this before, they prob had to wait a long time for the opportunity too.
A lot of people do not understand what it means to be poor. For as frustrating as that is, I have to be happy about it. I do not want anyone to be poor (yes, relative poverty will always exist: I am speaking of affording the cost of living).

Thanks for watching! What did you think of Obama's points? Plan to give Fighting Tuesday a visit one day?
