Saw them in Tampa a couple of days ago. Extraordinary performance! The singing and musianship were incredible! I was into Kiss, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin in my youth, but now realize there is an entire world of great heavy metal I've never heard of.
What a strong rock band with real good classic heavy rock songs, all five are true hardrockers, every one brings full energy on stage; Biff Byfford always had this special charisma and voice, the guitarists are on fire, Nigel G. is a kind of animal, this Monster drummer is beating so hard and so he gives the Saxon gigs the ultimate hard power … … !! Till to this day BB & Saxon belong to the greatest live rock bands of all time ….. 🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁🤘🤘🤘😈😈😈

I saw Saxon live at the Hemisfair Arena in San Antonio, Texas July/ 1983 and After the show me and my buddy were able to sneak in backstage. I saw Bill Byford and before I could say hello some dude with a British accent told me to get the fuck outta there and then he called security.
Greatest rock band in England always has been and always will be no other band I have seen is as tight as Saxon if you disagree just watch the video no over dubs no pre recordings just pure rock

Cmon it was 89. Hairspray Rock had ashamedly spread like knotweed into different genre's. I was at this gig and even at that time they oozed cool but like Maiden were not taken seriously if you wore a shirt in the street. Slayer and Metallica had taken control in the stakes of metal supremo. But for me Saxon were my 8 year old self's ear prick band. Them and Maiden got me into a new style of my own rather than my aging hippy dad Yes and prog or my Mum Beatles influences. Then Marillion come with a fusion of the times natural progression. But as for 90s Grunge came to totally put a noose around the neck of every mother fucker who dared to listen to anything resembling good old times. To totally depress the fuck out of us all. By the mid 90s there was fuck all genuine or original to come out. Brit pop put a death knell to all that had come before it. Regurgitating styles were now whats to come and to be fair has ever-increasingly since been a merging of everything every year. Not one genre has come to become to the fire than eve before. Take the radio. Before 1995 I could name the year of a song from radio 1 guess the year bit. Afterwards forget it. But fuck everyone taking the piss. I had it at the time. My brother and his mates in them late 70s early 80s laughing that I liked Rush and Saxon, Magnum, Rainbow, Whitesnake all of it. As he was into Pop or ska or Mod or whatever was next to be regurgitated. But hmmmm funny how they all profess to liking these once slated bands only im an elephant. I won't forget that these bands have longevity fir a reason. They kick ass.

I got this concert on VHS back in the mid. 90s. I believe I hadn't even bought any Saxon albums yet. I remember my friend's sister making fun of the stage gear but despite this both me and my mate thought Saxon were cool as fuck and sounded fantastic. Needless to say we both became fans from then on. I remember that day as well as we went home from school at lunch to squeeze in a few songs before returning back to our classes 🤣 ahhh the memories. I must say it was terribly uncool to be into proper metal at that time nevermind Saxon. Anytime I mentioned the name Saxon it was regarded as an embarrassment. Crazy eh? One of the all time great metal bands regarded as an embarrassment. This concert alone proves how fucking great they are in 1989 and still as good in 2022. Hail Saxon.

Sorry Malfarius, but this wasn't recorded at Rock City. It was at the Central TV Studios in Nottingham. I know, because a load of friends and I were there. We'd got tickets because one friends dad was catering manager at the TV studios.And anyway, you can tell from the wide shots that the stage is far too big and high for Rock City. It was a fucking epic gig, nonetheless.

Nice one. There's a new live album/DVD coming out on 27th Oct, that *was* recorded at Rock City, according to the blurb. Not sure how much I believe at the moment, as I've seen 2 different versions of the cover, one saying 1989 (on the Saxon website) and another 1990 (on Amazon)!

I saw this tour at Goldiggers in Chippenham. Excalibur as support.
Brave move by the band to tour without an album to support, I believe EMI had just dropped them. But it put them back on the map after the mid to late 80’s decline. Their next record “Solid Ball of Rock was a huge step in the right direction. After Graham left IMO with Doug and Nibs they found a new energy.
Must have seen them 8 or 9 times over the years. Just honest metal, they never disappoint live.
Would be cool to see them reunite with Dobby and Graham for a few shows, playing a set like this.
